So...how did I get here? Why would an intelligent elf not go for wizardry, but instead focus single-mindedly on the Rogue class? Why would an elf by LG? What would an LG elf be like? Why would a Rogue be LG (or why would an LG guy be a Rogue?). Oh, his adventures will be mostly dungeony (in fact it will be a "Scattered" version of World's Largest Dungeon) Some thoughts... If he grew up lawful in a chaotic society, then I imagine that he would be discouraged at how fickle those around him were. He might find a stoic philosophy comforting, only worrying about what he had control over. He might be thus more withdrawn, inward-focused, less emotional. On the other hand, he might be much more favorably disposed to other adventurers that were of lawful bent. It might be his first exposure to others that felt the way he did, so he would not think that he was just "touched in the head". |

Much like the children of ardent democrats sometimes rebel by embracing the GOP. That fits many aspects of your profile. Rather than develop his mind and become a wizard you developed your acrobatic talents. Rather than embrace arcane secrets you developed a fascination with the orderly simplicity of mechanical objects. One big question that will shape your character greatly is what he believes in. As noted in another thread, "lawful" implies a strict adherence to tradition and a set of moral precepts. It would be strange in the extreme to be a "lawful" devotee of the elven traditions, since they are a chaotic society. Still perhaps you look back wistful on ceremonies from older days and seek to bring those traditions back Or perhaps you idolize some other nearby culture (or a religion) and wish that you free-spirit people would embrace the same ethos. A good place to start would be to write down your character's primary ethical considerations. Is he looking to bring about some measure of justice to the world? To punish evil? Is there anything he would never do/or would try his best to avoid doing in pursuit of that goal? To whom or what is he loyal? Under what circumstances might he break his word to an ally To an enemy? Amongst all those to whom he is loyal which is the most important to him? Would he lie to (Bluff) an enemy or is he assiduously honest to all? |

The elves are forever making powerful items (all those wizards hanging round) and then losing them over the milenia. I suspect that a small dedicated group would travel around and retrieve them. Your lawful alignment would make you an ideal recruit as you would tend to be loyal with the best intentions of your fellow elves at heart. The skill set you have chosen would be a must have in any dungeon delving expedition. |

You thrive on order, and the fickle, ever-changing elven ways were just too much for you. This is an EXTREME roleplaying challenge, and probably ill-suited for a dungeon crawl, but it's worth considering. Alternately, perhaps your character is a failed wizard. Perhaps he apprenticed as a wizard and could never, ever get a spell to work properly... or at all. Maybe he was never really interested and therefore didn't have the will to succeed at it, maybe he was too self-concious, or maybe his tutor or a fellow student sabotaged his work. In any case, it is at that point that he started working with his hands, dealing with mechanical devices more. He still keeps up on some magical knowledge (to explain being able to disable magical traps; take a cross-class rank in Knowledge: Arcana for flavor), but the information he has is a strictly academic (and perhaps somehow flawed) understanding, nothing that he could really use. This might also be a good justification for having high ranks in Use Magic Device. In any event, working with mechanical devices and other reliable fields, over time, shifted your alignment to Lawful. |
