This is the character I developed for a friend's swashbuckling campaign.

Race: Aasimar
Age: 36
Height/Weight: 6'3" 160lb
Proffession: Highwayman
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Sex: Male

Physical Description: Tanned, toughened skin, with shaggy hair and wrinkled clothes. Despite natural radiance he seems to have the appearance of being up all night at all times.

Backstory (I promise not too long): (_____) was born into a middle class family in a suburb of the bustling city of Port Royal (not actual Port Royal a fantasy Port Royal). He was learning the family trade (blacksmithing) and harrassing the town marshal (who seemed to have some kind of animosity towards his family and blacksmiths in general) by the time he was twelve. It was about that time that he fell in love with a girl from the town. She was quite striking and unbeknownst to him, a tiefling. Despite her secret nature she was always compassionate and well mannered. She never seemed to take an interest in him, which he gradually learned to live with, although he still loved her very much. However, she gradually became an alchoholic. It became so bad that (_____) actually had to carry her home on several occassions. On one such occasion the marshal suspected that he was kidnapping the girl and set out to arrest him. The marshal caught him near a rope bridge over a river. He stopped to explain himself to the marshal and at that moment the girl, in a stupor, walked onto the bridge and fell through a rotted plank. The current carried her away and she was never found, (_____) assumed she was dead. There being no witnesses the marshal laid the charge of manslaughter on his shoulders. He was sentenced to 100 lashings and to be branded. But he escaped, leaving the marshal with the brand he was supposed to have in the process.

Concept: Knowing he couldn't go back, and regretting the loss of the girl's life (_____) decided to become a highwayman, but with the morals his father taught him. He has grown into a legend of sorts, everyone seems to fear the famous (_____), an impression he cultivates deliberately. He lives by a haphazard outlaw code mixed with the lessons imprinted on him by his father. Never attack a helpless opponent, never stab someone in the back, don't shoot the messenger, never steal a man's last coin, and never let anyone carry out an unjust punishment on you; he never drinks either. Since that day (____) has become a daredevil and hopeless womanizer, subconsciously trying to drown out his earlier memories.

*Although (____) is not aware of it, the girl he once loved survived her fall into the river. She was also carried away from the village, and finally became desperate enough that she fell in with an infernal assassin's guild.

Now my question for you all is, what would you name this swashbuckling ne'er do well?

well, I personally think a good name(sounds cool, and would be a good highwayman's name) would be Aurum(latin for gold or something similiar... cant remember exactly). ANd it gives the impression of radiance, something Aasimar are known for.
