| SoulGamit04-16-06, 01:50 PM | I suppose I should start with the basic concept. I want to play a telepath who's goal in life is to reform the world, one villian at a time. He takes someone and through a combination of mundane psichology and psionic prowess he attempts to reform them. He believes anyone can be reformed, if given the right amount of work. His justification for dominating someone to achieve this is that people who abuse the priviledge of free will don't deserve to keep it. I was wandering if anyone had any suggestions for a diety/religion that would fit this character? I can never seem to get a good feel for the deities in FR; although I'd preffer a lawful neutral or lawful good one, unless another diety/religion really fits. I can look up the specific info on the deity myself, so I really only need the name, although I'll take anything I can get. If anyone has any other ideas or suggestions, I'm very open as well. |
| Dynneroth04-17-06, 02:45 PM | I would suggest Azuth or Savras. I don't think a good deity would be inclined to invade minds and forcibly alter personalities or behavior. |
| Rudysseus04-17-06, 08:43 PM | Dominating others into being good is not really good, it seems more neutral, at best, to me. That said, perhaps Helm is for you. If your goal is to be sort of a watchdog of society and keep the troublemakers from making trouble, the Watcher God sounds right up your alley. Lawful Neutral. Might need to be careful of others who worship Helm, as I think there are sects of Paladins that do, and they might not be too keen on your tactics, despite the greater good you work for. |
| SoulGamit04-18-06, 12:10 AM | Helm seems like the right choice, atm. However, Savras isn't in F&P, where can I find him? |
| Morka04-18-06, 12:01 PM | Helm seems like the right choice, atm. However, Savras isn't in F&P, where can I find him? You can find some basic info here (http://realmshelps.dandello.net/datafind/index.shtml). Since you're trying to change people's fate, you could be worshipping Jergal, the Scribe of the Doomed. Tricking people with Charm spells might sound Chaotic Good too. You could be worshipping Sune, Goddess of Beauty, or perhaps Eldath, Goddess of Peace. |
| Dynneroth04-18-06, 02:34 PM | I was thinking Sune too. Something along the lines of helping people to become better, whether they want to or not. And the mind control/charm thing seems to be right up her alley. |
| The_Shaman04-19-06, 07:01 AM | Charm maybe, but mind control may be a bit too tough for her... Probably Savras, I suppose. |
| Ivarrius04-19-06, 10:11 AM | Savras IS in F&P. He is not a major deity, therefore does not make the first chapter of gods/goddesses. But I assure you he is in that book. As far as who you should use, I agree that finding a Neutral god is your best bet. As to which one, Helm is a good choice, but perhaps not so much geared toward the Telepath aspect. |
| Dynneroth04-19-06, 02:44 PM | It looks like many people looked at this the way I did: Azuth, Helm, Sune, Savras. I threw out Helm because he didn't seem to go with the whole charm thing, but I think if he had a follower that had that predilection, Helm wouldn't have any problem with giving his blessing. I also threw out Sune because I just couldn't reconcile a good deity taking over someone's mind to force them to be good. I went with Savras and Azuth because they seemed the most likely to be concerned with the mind and converting people away from evil. |
| Northwest04-19-06, 03:14 PM | I guess I'm way out of touch with the FR gods. My first thought was that you are bringing about change and thought of Lathandar. |
| Ivarrius04-19-06, 04:34 PM | I disagree heartily with Azuth. He cares about magic, not good or evil. Just Magic, and the study thereof. |
| Morka04-19-06, 06:16 PM | If Leira was still alive, she would have made a good choice too... |
| Ivarrius04-20-06, 07:04 AM | If Leira was still alive, she would have made a good choice too... If I remember correctly... some of the Halruaans that left for Nimbral still, in one way or another, worship Leira. |
| Dynneroth04-20-06, 07:53 PM | I was reading F&P again last night and I realized Mystra would be a good fit too. Now I know a lot of people hate her, and she is NG. However, she would have no problem turning a blind eye to a follower of her's who wanted to use magic to reform villains, forcibly if need be. She probably wouldn't want them going around saying "IN THE NAME OF ALMIGHTY MYSTRA I COMMAND THEE TO FORSAKE THY EVIL WAYS AND BE THOU GOOD UNTIL THE END OF DAYS!" But assisting in the use of strong enchantments to alter the personality of a BBEG might be right up her alley. |
| Lord Karsus04-21-06, 10:31 PM | -I don't know if he was mentioned or not, but the entire idea of reforming villians sounds very Lathanderian to me. |
| bayke04-27-06, 09:46 PM | Lathander really makes sense when you consider his actions leading to the Dawn Cataclysm. And the fact that he's currently working on some of them again. |
