| Aleolus12-05-07, 01:55 AM | OK, I posted this in the CO boards, and I was told this would be a better place for it, this being more of a "Because we can" type board. I am wanting to find out what the highest AC you can get is, using the following restrictions Human only No magic 1st level only My personal best is 30, but I would like to see what all of you can do! Remember, no magic! Just class abilities, feats, and nonmagical equipment! This is a challenge for this board, though I expect it to be overcome quickly. |
| Fwib12-05-07, 10:02 AM | You didn't include a gp restriction. Or valid sources. |
| Aleolus12-05-07, 11:11 AM | No gp restriction, and any sources. This here is Theoretical, so anything goes! Changed one of the ones in the OP, though. Switched it from races with no natural armor to "Human only" |
| mendalfry12-05-07, 11:14 AM | Well, since no limits were set, simply stand behind my pet Great Wyrm Gold Dragon and say sickem to anybody trying to hurt me... No better nonmagical AC in the world (Sorry, couldnt resist....lol) |
| Lokathor12-05-07, 12:28 PM | Is Incarnum in, since you can access it via feats? |
| Aleolus12-05-07, 12:45 PM | Yes, Incarnum is in. You can use any source you want, with no gp restriction, so long as the build is human and first level. |
| CrimsonDeath12-05-07, 05:33 PM | I'm guessing that Human subraces are out, though? |
| Aleolus12-05-07, 08:58 PM | Only if they have natural armor. This is a no-holds barred, as long as it can be done at first level, if you don't worry about GP or the like. Oh, and I'm wanting a constant AC, not something like "I use this ability, it gives me a +200 Deflection for 2 rounds" |
| BillTheManiac12-05-07, 09:05 PM | +5 full plate, +5 heavy steel shield is already 30. Then full plate allows +1 dex I believe, so 31. There's like Heavy Armor Optomization or something cool. If not, does dodge count? Flaws allowed? |
| Aleolus12-05-07, 09:46 PM | I said in the first post 'no magic'. This includes enchantments on armor. |
| Callix12-05-07, 11:01 PM | Pun-Pun has arbitrary Wisdom and the Monk's Wis to AC, and all his abilities are (Ex). Does he count? Aside from that, Fighter in Mithril Full Plate with 16 Dex and a Large Shield has an AC of 23. Dodge, any Incarnum feat and Shape Soulmeld (Wormtail Belt) (put the essentia in the Belt) add 4 for 27. Get a mount, ride for cover, and take total defence, and your AC is 38. You can't attack, but your opponent is rolling for 20's. |
| JaronK12-06-07, 02:22 AM | No gp limit makes it downright silly. Why not have standard average starting wealth for a 1st level character? Otherwise, what stops you from using a horde of diminuative trained animals and nanoboting aid other unti your AC hits the low thousands? JaronK |

Using bats and eagles, I think a couple of people got into the low-to-mid 100's in the original thread over on the CharOp board. |
| JaronK12-06-07, 04:06 AM | But with smaller creatures, it just gets worse, and the numbers are so high that way that nothing else competes. JaronK |
| Aleolus12-06-07, 10:48 AM | Ah, but to be able to train a creature to 'Aid Another', it must have an intelligence score of at least 2. That rules out most of the Fine creatures that usually travel in swarms. And it's hard to get a ton of Fine creatures who don't travel in swarms. |

Pretty sure it only needs Int 1, if you don't mind that being about all it can do. |
| Greco12-07-07, 07:42 AM | 10 Mithral FP +8 Dex 16 +2 Tower Shield +4 Shield Wall +2 Shield Prof +1 Defensive fighting +2 Dodge +1 cover against melee +4 Hireling Fighter (lvl1) Shield Mate with tower shield +2 36 AC |
| JaronK12-10-07, 12:06 AM | A creature with an int of 1 can learn 3 tricks, one of which can be aid another. There's really no way around the fact that aid another is the easiest best way to raise AC in this scenario. JaronK |
| Killometer12-12-07, 10:06 PM | no gp restriction I buy a Keep. What's that put my ac at? |
| zeratulcraft12-13-07, 08:33 AM | That only gives you total cover from creatures outside unless they do enough damage to break the walls. Your AC is still 10 or so. |
| Harpua12-18-07, 02:43 PM | 10 Mithral FP +8 Dex 16 +2 Tower Shield +4 Shield Wall +2 Shield Prof +1 Defensive fighting +2 Dodge +1 cover against melee +4 Hireling Fighter (lvl1) Shield Mate with tower shield +2 36 AC you can't use shield proficiency with a tower shield. |
| Necron-9912-29-07, 06:53 PM | Also Mirthal full plate gives a max dex of +3 |
