| cradlefilthmikey05-06-07, 07:46 AM | I am creating a new world loosely based off of Final Fantasy series, but I still like the main elements of D&D I would like input and suggestions. I would like it if i can get a bunch of people together to create the world with me. I feel a collective of ideas would be the best way for this world to develop. I already have 5 players in this world and they are liking it. Here's what I have already. The World of Ærther In the world of Ærther, magic meets machine in a whole new way. Theological advances have created guns, which now for the most part replace bows. But due to the shoddy accuracy it is not the weapon of choice amongst most people, the cold hard steel is though. The world itself is about 5 times as large as earth. Magic in Ærther Magic is all round Ærther. Wizards, Clerics, Scorcers, and Druids find ease in casting their magic’s, even with lack of preparation. Material components are unnecessary, due to the high potency of mana flowing through the world. Hex Orbs: A Hex Orb is condensed mana in solid form. I can be produced or found naturally. Due to its high concentration, anybody can use these glass-like colorful spheres (unless otherwise noted by class or Race.) By this standard anybody can use magic in its most mundane form. There are some advanced magic users, such as Warlocks, Wizards, and Druids. The use per day of a Hex Orb is equal to (CHA modifier + 1/2 Hero level rounded up) - spell level of Hex Orb. Some classes allow a character to add their Use Magical Device skill as an addition for more uses. The max Hex Orb level able to be used by a normal character, is 1/2 the character’s level rounded down (minimum Lv.0). Hex Orb can be placed into armor with ease, as to make for easy spell casting. Hex Orb has to either be equipped to a player's equipment, or held in hand. Hex Orb can be classed into two basic types, which can easily be determined by color, Red - Passive, and Green - Active. Passive Hex Orbs give bonuses to the person when equipped to an armor, or ring is fashioned out of it. Active Hex Orbs have to be used consciously by the character, and can also be equipped to armor for easy access. Active Hex Orbs can fall into any, or multiple, sub-types, there are 6 in all. Summoning-(Magenta) brings an outside ally to help fight Enchant-(Yellow) Effects the minds of others Illusion-(Aqua) Tricks of the eye Necromancy-(Blue) Controls of the dead Transmutation-(Violet) Changing of the shape Evocation-(Orange) direct damage Dread-(Black) Exceedingly evil spells I want summoning to have a class of it's own. |

Magic in Ærther[/B] Magic is all round Ærther. Wizards, Clerics, Scorcers, and Druids find ease in casting their magic’s, even with lack of preparation. Material components are unnecessary, due to the high potency of mana flowing through the world. Druids don't need a free bonus feat (and much of there spellcasting is balanced because of this). Sorcerers are understandable. Does this include costly material components too? The use per day of a Hex Orb is equal to (CHA modifier + 1/2 Hero level rounded up) - spell level of Hex Orb. Some classes allow a character to add their Use Magical Device skill as an addition for more uses. The max Hex Orb level able to be used by a normal character, is 1/2 the character’s level rounded down (minimum Lv.0). Woahwoahwoah. What happens if an orb is used a few times by one player, then passed to another player? I would make it be a static number of uses per day per item, with UMD and other special class features or whatever allowing a character to tease a few more uses out of one at the risk of destroying it. How much do these cost? I want summoning to have a class of it's own. Fine. Got any ideas? I know I do. |
| cradlefilthmikey05-07-07, 06:48 AM | What stats are you using for guns? Depends on the gun used. Standered Handgun would be the equivulant of a Sort Bow Standered Rifle would be the equivulant of a Long Bow Others I have not thought of Druids don't need a free bonus feat (and much of there spellcasting is balanced because of this). Sorcerers are understandable. Does this include costly material components too? I feel both of the Druid and Monk classes are the most broken classes in the game and need to be revamped all together. Woahwoahwoah. What happens if an orb is used a few times by one player, then passed to another player? I would make it be a static number of uses per day per item, with UMD and other special class features or whatever allowing a character to tease a few more uses out of one at the risk of destroying it. How much do these cost? I am thinking of a system where the only useable Hex Orbs are the ones equipped, but once unequipped they loose their magical energy. Plus I am also looking at making a standered use per Level of Hex Orbs. Fine. Got any ideas? I know I do. Unfortunatly Classes are not my fortè. I am thinking of something like warlock meets scorcer meets demons/angels/other baddies!!! Pleaase I am all for other peoples input and opions! The more we work together the better a world we can make for everybody to play in and that's really my main goal. I will always give credit to where it is deserved! |
| Draginja05-07-07, 07:54 PM | For a Summoner class, go to the "Classes and Prestige Classes" thread on D&D General. Look around a bit to find a Summoner class by wolfie_kun. It is actually a decent class idea. |
| Holy_Beholder05-07-07, 08:05 PM | And look for moogles, under races. |
| cradlefilthmikey05-08-07, 10:01 PM | Meh, I likie the summoner but I think it kind of depleats the purpose of summoning Hex Orbs. Unless we make the summoning Hex Orbs only useable with the summoning class or make a specific feat for using them. IDK any suggestions? I like the moogels they kind of remind me of kobolds. I am also thinking of Hybriding Jenova and Tiamat to Make an Evil entity Avonej! Any other Suggestions on legandary type entities that we can build off of? I want to make this something everybody uses and makes TOGETHER!! After we get enough input we can create our own web page for easy access for everybody. |
| Holy_Beholder05-08-07, 11:30 PM | OK. First I would like to point out that Clouds sword is 560 pounds(if you think the average sword is 1/4 of an inch thick at its thickest point) or 280 pounds(if you think the average sword is 1/2 an inch thick at its thickest point. So we need a few epic characters with obscene strength scores. And the moogles are key. I would personally leave in beholders, because they are so cool, especially half celestial beholders with paladin levels. So throw realism out the window on weapons, characters(moogles wings are small) and everything else. |
| cradlefilthmikey05-11-07, 10:33 PM | First, Who cares about weight?! I don't!! Just make a max. on what your inventory can hold, then for bigger items make them use up more that 1 slot. Weapons can be taylored to each class. Rangers and scouts can use projectile and small hand weapons. Rouge can use small hand weapons and 'toys'. Dragoons......big....pointy.....metal... etc. Yeah realism can put a limit on imagination! |

| cradlefilthmikey05-12-07, 10:08 PM | Yeah, well even though most people like to dump stregnth, the classes need to be a little more revamped in a way that, a gunslinger/ranger would have massive CHA and DEX. The weapons need to be taylord to classes so people wouldn't be a scorcer with 24 STR and a great axe!!! Even then who wouldn't like to see 5 magic missels coming out of a great axe?! |
| Draginja05-13-07, 04:51 PM | Hey, Kadaj shot 5 magic missles out of his forearm, why not an axe? It might not have been 5, but havn't seen the movie in a while. |
| cradlefilthmikey05-13-07, 09:39 PM | Thats another thing i kinda like the materia system in the FF3.5 PDF thats able to be D/L. but I think basing casting moreso off of CHA instead of chrg/day makes it interesting. Ex. Cloud or Vincent wouldn't cast as much as say, Aerth or Caitsith |
