My personal identification is old Norse.

For intellectual favorite I pretty much like aspects of them all...

Any of the cultures pre-glory days where they are a bunch of tribal groups vying for power. That is the most interesting at least from an RP perspective.

I am a huge fan of chinese and japanese ancient culture, as well as ancient greece and nordic cultures. They are all amazing settings for any fantasy adventures.

Ancient? Imperial Rome. I also am a huuuuge fan of the Protestant Reformation/Counter Reformation period of European history, but that of course is much later than I think you intended.

How could I not join the cry ROMA VICTRIX!!! ? Well, being from Italy, and having studyed under the shadow of the Colyseum I am a big fan of the idealized Rome. Like all ages, we're not talking about the real thing 100%, as we would find disgusting aspects a bit everywhere (women status, slavery, death penalty, no hygiene whatsoever). So, ideally, yeah, next to Rome the glorious days of the heroic Ereinahn, the Ireland of the kings and the warriors on chariots, of druids and bards. Third place? Well, bronze medal to Japan, immediately before the Sengoku Jidai started (which is when Inuyasha is set)

Ossian (yeah the nickname says a lot...)

I'd have to go with

Greek, followed by Sumerian/Arabian then Mesoamerican.

I do have an interest in the start of civilization. 7000BC to 3000BC.

Or perhaps, there was one during the LGM that is now gone?

The Sundra peninsula?

I do have an interest in the start of civilization. 7000BC to 3000BC.

CATAL HUYUK: 7000BC-3000BC, Commonwealth of Sheep Farmers, evolves into an Artisan dominated Culture and ends with the emergence of Fundamentalist Religion and apparently a massive flood as the Black Sea is formed due collapse of the natural Sea wall that seperates the Black Sea Basin from the Mediterranean. The Anatollian Plateau (The piece of Paradise where CATAL HUYUK is located) is invaded by refugees bringing tales of horror and disease.

KARAKUM: 3000BC-2000BC, Martiarchy. This walled City occupies some 24&1/2 Acres for an overcrowded population of around 1220 people. The Women are the heads of their families. They Participate in some level of communal politics, The Most valuable items in the house are the Cosmetics and their fine Carved and polished Quarts containers with Silver Craft adornments and tools.
Men labour out side the city walls to produce the food and fuel needed to support the entire population.

Sumer. One of the cradles of civilization.

Not any more...

THE LOST KINGDOM OF ARATTA

SOUTHEAST IRAN 10,000BC-3000BC, They have just found evidence of the first written language...in the uppermost level of the dig...Still twelve meters of city to go below that so Apparently everything these guys had was taught to the Sumerians and Babylonians.
They appear to be THE CRADLE OF CIVILIZATION.

And it looks like they were a Matriarchy as well.
