The thing with Eberron is it is really a "magic-as-technology" setting: it incorporates a lot of stuff most folks don't really think of as "fantasy". While a Steampunk setting might have magically driven steam trains, Eberron goes whole-hog and makes the trains run directly on magic. So, they don't exactly look like trains (at least not early trains): no smoke, no boiler, no ash, but they function like trains: they go from place to place along tracks. Gnomes run the Western Union office, and they use magic to send the messages, but it really might as well be a telegraph. So you wind up with a setting more like the Old West or 30's detective fiction than like traditional "swords&sorcery" fantasy. Not that that's a bad thing. :) It just means that the movies, including anime, that fit the setting aren't what you'd expect. Less "Lodoss War" and "Heroic Legend of Arislan" and more "Steamboy" and "Nausicaa". Just like with the live action films, where it's less "Dragonheart" or "Lord of the Rings", and more "The Maltese Falcon" and "Raiders of the Lost Ark". And, since that end of the genre isn't really my cup of tea for anime, I'm hard pressed to come up with more titles. |

The Crew of Outlaw Star, including the ship, turned into a crew aboard an airship. Galaxy Express 999 could be a rogue Lightning Rail that travels between planes. Eighth Man After could be a Warforged Ninja or Scout who hunts down those who use warforged grafts (Faiths of Eberron) to hurt others. Demon City Shinjuku could be one of the demon cities within the demon wastes. The main character would probably be a warblade or perhaps just a palidan. |
