| RoninFrosty04-21-07, 11:08 PM | I was curious as to whether or not George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series had been converted to D20 by fans yet. I'm honestly less interested in playing and more interested in seeing my favorite characters from the series in stat block form... |

| RoninFrosty04-22-07, 07:00 AM | Didn't realize that was D20, LOL. Sorry 'bout that :D . |
| Xaxor04-22-07, 12:17 PM | Of course, Guardians of Order went out of business last year, so the game is in limbo. If you find a copy online it probably won't be cheap though. |
| spyone04-23-07, 02:21 AM | Several of the big chain bookstores in my area still have a copy on their shelves. Be warned: there are 2 versions out there, and I believe only one of them is d20 (the other being Tri-Stat, GoO's own system). AFAIK, the tri-stat version is a more "deluxe" book and costs more, so a cheap one is more likely to be the d20 version, but I could be mistaken about some or all of that. Make sure you know what you're getting. |
| Fgarber04-23-07, 07:29 PM | One of the things I like about the Song of Ice and Fire series is how often the characters are played with dice that do not roll fair. I think if I DMed it, I would want to give the players d20s with only 1-3 and 17-20 on them. That might help keep the feel of the series... Arya clearly rolls a couple of 20s on her diplomacy rolls, in order to charm the Hound and get to take a couple of levels of the Assassin Prestige Class. On the other hand, she's clearly botched a couple of "Gather Information" rolls. Eddard succeeded on his Gather Information roll (coal before gold!), but failed miserably at his Diplomacy, Knowledge (nobility) and Knowledge (politics) rolls. Jaime had one bad series of botched combat rolls (rolling all 1s) , starting with his capture, and look where he is now. Sansa used Wisdom, not Charisma, as her dump stat, obviously not knowing how to powergame a character(!) The GM busted poor Theon for not sticking to alignment, and he lost his levels of Iron Paladin. Now he's a lampshade. Finally, I think poor Rickon is going to regret spending all those levels on Druid (Swamp) when he grows up. |
| Ranger REG04-23-07, 07:46 PM | Didn't realize that was D20, LOL. Sorry 'bout that :D . It's d20-based and used the SRD for the rules. It just not advertised as d20 System. It's a standalone core rulebook, so you don't need Player's Handbook or any core game books from WotC. But the big rulebook cost $50 (US). |
| Xaxor04-26-07, 09:16 PM | Well, with the death of Guardians of Order leaving the property in limbo, Green Ronin has now picked up the license. Now to wait until 2008, and it will probably not be d20. |

| Eberik05-02-07, 11:01 PM | No, but many are hoping they'll use their in-house rules, True20. As it stands, they are keeping it D20, but it seems from various articles about the game, they haven't said True or regular D20 yet. Either works, but the setting in and of itself is a lot different from both normal D20 and True 20 as well. Get the book, its worth the price, it has every, and I mean EVERY character from the books stated out, as well as cool PrCs and stuff to make it more in touch with the setting then what D20 and True 20 have out thus far. |

I'm a firm believer that the rules should fit the setting, even if you have to modify said rules heavily. If the current game mechanics option don't fit, create a new one. I mean, how many health systems do we already have for d20-based SRD rules engine? |

If the current game mechanics option don't fit, create a new one. I mean, how many health systems do we already have for d20-based SRD rules engine? The rules do fit, I think I may have not been clear enough or maybe perhaps you misread, but the rules in the GoT main book are different then standard D20. First off even the combat orientated classes are less then a fighter of the same level, and second and a major point is that people get Def. donuses based on class and level to add to their armor and it's not a static number like in standard, but a rolled one each time. So right there is proof positive they DID make the rules fit the setting. Combat is more deadly then normal D20, plus there are no magic healers to back people up or even wizards too. Again, backing the setting not the rules. |
| Holy_Beholder05-05-07, 10:40 AM | plus there are no magic healers to back people up or even wizards too. Again, backing the setting not the rules. None what so ever. What about the Red Sorceress. And the Pyromancers, it explicitly said they used magic. There was also that healer who betrayed Daenyrs. |
| Eberik05-05-07, 05:10 PM | Again, none of the basic classes get any spell lists and even the PrCs have none that I can remember, my book is leant out right now. But there is a chapter about giving out spells, but it was limiting and very specific about it. |
| Moebius10-30-07, 11:53 AM | Here is a review (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSg7U3G27Fw) of the game on youtube's Game Geeks |
| Ranger REG10-31-07, 09:40 PM | The rules do fit, I think I may have not been clear enough or maybe perhaps you misread, but the rules in the GoT main book are different then standard D20. By "standard d20 System" you mean using the D&D rules with no alteration but with add-ons, then yeah. But anyone who have played D&D and then looked at AGoT OGL RPG, they'll notice many mechanics are familiar. But with regads to Green Ronin, we don't know if it will be d20 System labeled product. If anything, I hope it would be True20, which is spawned from the SRD ruleset. |
| captainvegas11-07-07, 10:30 AM | Green Ronin has stated it will not be d20. They are creating a whole new system for it. http://www.greenronin.com/phpBB2/ |

They are creating a whole new system for it. http://www.greenronin.com/phpBB2/ Seems there are many posters there who don't think any form of d20-based rulesystem is suitable for ASoIaF. Tragic. :nonono: Glad I bought my AGoT OGL Rulebook. |
