The imagery i imagined was slightly more psychadelic (I may have been listening to Hawkwind at the time) and the kind of thing that sprung to my mind was a heavily armed battlecruiser and a large number of smaller space fighters fighting a dragon in outer space. The dragon incinerating the figters and landing on the cruiser ripping the hull with its claws, you can replace the dragon with wizards and its just as cool. I even came up with a concept for a character class: The Stellar Druid, normal druids are guardians of nature and the environment, well i reasoned that space is natural and an environment so if you expand on the druid concept you get space druids. It certainly bears thinking about because there is not much like this around the only one leaping to mind is Warhammer 40K but that has a flavour and theme of its own, gritty and gothic, but something more exotic and Conan styled would certainly be interesting as well. |

| Grimgrin11-02-07, 08:14 PM | Dragonstar will work. It is basically D&D with lasers and spacesuits. Another way is to treat energy weapons like wands that anyone can use. Creating these firearms is simple; GP worth= Spell Level x Caster Level x 1000 (0 level spells have an effective 0.5 spell level to determine cost) for every 50 charge Firearm. Since most spells are "ranged touch attacks" then any AC bonus provided by armor is negated. Instead of an AC bonus, armor in this "Lazer Barbarian" universe provides Energy And/Or Damage Resistance (Equal to its original armor bonus). This way a high DEX prevent you from getting hit, but armor reduces damage when you are hit. Whether these firearms are powered by magic or science will affect Spell Resistance but otherwise is unimportant in most combat encounters. |

What exactly is DragonStar? :searches WikiPedia: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/images2/dspreview1.jpg Dragonstar is a campaign setting created by "Fantasy Flight Games" soon after D&D 3.0 was originally released. It is basically about a intersellar emipire ruled by dragons. Within the empire exist various levels of scientific and arcane technology. On some worlds, the populous possess only medieval machines and magic (Standard D&D). Other worlds have acess to robots, enegy weapons, and space craft. Originally all the races of dragons competed for intergalactic dominance, but a treaty was reached to avoid mutual destruction. For one millenium metallic dragons would rule the empire. For the next millenium chromantic dragons would rule. Currently, the empire is dominated by chromantic dragons and their allies and servant races (such as drow, orcs, and hobgoblins). It is a well written book with excellent illustrations, but has becomed dated since it is based on 3.0 rules. These books are long since out of print but are still available online or used. The easiest way to get them cheap is to purchase them as PDFs. RPGnow has the full collection. The first book is STARFARER'S HANDBOOK (http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=464&it=1) and costs $10.
