This is another of the metroid critters I promised. "Phazon seed" in this case refers to the crablike outer body of metroid prime and the other leviathan cores.

Skills: 43x6
Feats: Multiattack, Weapon Focus (claws), Epic Weapon Focus (claws), Weapon Specialization (claws), Epic Weapon Specialization (claws), Snatch, Power Attack, Combat Reflexes, Awesome Blow, Improved Bull Rush, Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack
Alignment: Always Chaotic Evil
Challenge Rating: 28
Advancement: Infinite (grows into a living planet)

Control Phazon (Ex): A phazon seed can control objects made of pure phazon as if it had telikinesis (caster level 30) as an extraordinary ability. The save DC (whenever a saving throw applies) is 42. The save DC is charisma based.

Phazon Barrage (Ex): Every 1d4 rounds, a phazon seed can launch a cone of liquid phazon droplets from its armored body. The cone is sixty feet long, and deals 20d6 phazon damage to all within it. A reflex save (DC 42) halves the damage. Those who fail their saves are also stunned for one round. The save DC is charisma based.

Breath Weapon (Su): At will, a phazon seed can fire a line of energy from its crablike belly. The line is one hundred and twenty feet long and ten feet wide. The line deals 20d6 damage of whatever energy type the seed is currently maintaining (see below) plus 4d6 phazon damage. A reflex save (DC 44) halves the damage. Those who fail their saves suffer additional effects depending on the energy type. The save DC is constitution based.
Fire: those who fail their saves catch on fire.
Electricity: those who fail their saves are slowed for two rounds.
Cold: those who fail their saves are paralyzed for one round.
Acid: those who fail their saves are nauseated for two rounds.
Sonic: those who fail their saves are confused for one round.
Force: no added effects, but good luck resisting it.

Phazon Seed (Ex): Anyone who touches the phazon seed's body takes 4d6 phazon damage.

Reflective Carapace (Ex): A phazon seed's carapace reflects all lines, cones, and rays, even including magic missile spells. There is a 75% chance of such attacks bouncing off harmlessly, and a 25% chance of them rebounding back on the caster. Its armor contains a weak spot, however; through a chink in the carapace, the creature's horrible eyes can be seen. The eyes have a touch AC of 23.

Variable Elemental Nature (Su): A phazon seed is immune to all energy types except one, and can change its vulnerability as a standard action. It must use the energy type it is currently vulnerable to as its breath weapon. The breath weapon node on its forebelly glows a different color depending on which vulnerability is active (red for fire, yellow for force, green for acid, white for sonic, blue for cold, purple for lightning). While its force vulnerability is active, the seed's damage reduction drops to 2/-.

Planetary Dominion (Ex): A phazon seed can see and hear through any body of phazon that came from itself or its leviathan, provided the two are on the same planet or other astral body. It also has the power to control the phazon's basic behavior and mutagenic effects on a case by case basis.

Metroid Prime (Ex): If it is killed, the phazon seed will burst open, revealing the metroid prime that hides within.

I can't wait to see how you decide to stat out the effects of phazon energy. I do have some suggestions for when you do get around to it. If you don't want to take my suggestions or if you haven't completed Metroid Prime 3, go ahead and ignore the following two paragraphs.

I think that phazon madness would best work as something similar to when an intelligent magic item takes control of a character, except it would be a bit more permanent. I'm guessing that normal phazon would gain intelligence as it corrupts life forms. At first, it will just be corrupting plants and such, and as such, it would become as intelligent as those plants. Later on, it might start to mutate more mobile and intelligent life forms and take control over some of them in the process. When a creature has first started to show the signs of phazon madness, the phazon would typically be of animal intelligence. If the creature survives long enough, the phazon within it might become more intelligent, which would be what happened with Metroid Prime/Dark Samus. After it gets intelligent enough, the phazon might learn a way to make phazon that is under its control, and would thus have as much intelligence. So the blast of energy that was used against Samus and the other hunters could just be phazon energy that has the same intelligence as Dark Samus. This would explain why the other hunters stayed intelligent despite suffering from what could be seen as phazon madness. The idea of phazon being intelligent becomes more plausible when you remember that there were some groups of it that had become able to move on their own.

The GF troopers apparently didn't suffer from phazon madness while using their suits phazon-based weaponry. My guess for why this was would be that the phazon needs to make direct contact with a life form in order to corrupt it. The GF troopers had equipment that kept the phazon from making direct contact with them. Samus and the other hunters ended up with their bodies actually producing phazon, and this obviously made it impossible for the phazon to be drawn out without it coming in contact with body. Not only would the four special PED suits not be able to keep the phazon from coming in contact with the user's body, but it would likely help spread it through the body while it was being drawn out.

Advice much appreciated. I have my own interpretation figured out already, which is similar-though not identical-to yours. The way I'm doing it, each phazon seed is a single intelligence, and all the phazon it produces is a part of it. When phazon infects other creatures, it doesn't gain a seperate consciousness of its own; it brings the host under the control of the seed. When dark samus infected Samus and the other mercs, she caused them to slowly fall under her personal dominion.

Phazon seeds can become much more intelligent than the above statblock lists them as (read: dark samus). The process by which this occurs will be elaborated when I post Metroid Prime's stats.

In order for my interpretation of the (very ambiguous) mechanics of phazon to make sense, I'll summarize it as follows:

1. Long ago, Phaaze came in contact with the metroids. They may have come from the same galaxy or dimension. This would have been long before the chozo discovered the metroids and started breeding them to fight the X parasites on SR338.

2.Because metroids are so adaptive and prone to mutation, those that were corrupted by phazon became the most reliable agents of Phaaze.

3. Phaaze worked the metroids into its reproductive cycle, turning them into full-fledged symbionts. From that point onward, each leviathan has contained a metroid prime to act as a phazon seed.

4. Because it takes the metroid primes a long time to develop (the ones Samus kills in Corruption are still helpless little bugs), they corrupt a local creature to act as a guardian (Helios, Omega Ridley, etc) in the mean time. Once the seed gets strong enough to look after itself, it devours the guardian.

5. The metroid prime completely corrupts its host planet and merges with it, becoming a newborn Phaaze. When the new Phaaze completes its transformation, it can begin launching leviathans of its own.

Now, here is metroid prime.

Advancement: Infinite (grows into a living planet)

Control Phazon (Ex): A metroid prime can control objects made of pure phazon as if it had telikinesis (caster level 30) as an extraordinary ability. The save DC (whenever a saving throw applies) is 44. The save DC is charisma based.

Wave Quake (Su): A metroid prime can, by pointing all six tentacles at the ground, cause a wave of destructive energy to spread out from beneath it. All within thirty feet take 50 damage, half normal half phazon. A reflex save (DC 46) halves the damage. The save DC is constitution based.

Phazon Barrage (Ex): Every 1d4 rounds, a metroid prime can launch a cone of liquid phazon droplets from its armored body. The cone is sixty feet long, and deals 20d6 phazon damage to all within it. A reflex save (DC 46) halves the damage. Those who fail their saves are also stunned for one round. The save DC is constitution based.

Create Phazon (Ex): Instead of launching a phazon barrage, a metroid prime can choose to lay a patch of liquid phazon, ten feet in diameter, directly below itself. Anyone in this area must succeed at an initiative check against the metroid prime to move to an adjascent square in time; otherwise, they are covered in phazon (basically the same as being covered in lava, ie 20d6 damage a round, only it sticks to you for 1d4 rounds after you leave).

Summon Metroids (Su): Three times per day, a metroid prime can shape living metroids from a pool of its own liquid phazon. It can create 2d4+2 phazon metroids, 1d4+1 hunter metroids, or 2 fission metroids. These metroids are quite real, and remain in the area indefinetely.

Alternate Form (Su): A metroid prime can become an incorporeal shower of blue particles. Treat this as a gaseous form spell, but has the added bonus of granting incorporeality. It cannot attack or use any of its other abilities in this form.

Phazon Seed (Ex): Anyone who touches the metroid prime's body takes 8d6 phazon damage.

Planetary Dominion (Ex): A metroid prime can see and hear through any body of phazon that came from itself or its leviathan, provided the two are on the same planet or other astral body. It also has the power to control the phazon's basic behavior and mutagenic effects on a case by case basis.

Boson Shift (Ex): A metroid prime can become invisible at will, as per the greater invisibility spell, as an extraordinary ability.

Rejuvination (Ex): If reduced to -10 hit points or below, a metroid prime does not die immediately. Rather, it reverts to a rudimentary, insentient blob of phazon. It has one minute to find a new body for itself before disintegrating into quarks. This surrogate form must be phazon based, and have enough of a hollow area inside for a piece of the dying metroid to infest. The metroid dies, but its memories live on in the new form, which develops new mental and physical capacities depending on the host.

Huh. I'd just treat Phazon levels as taint (the UA version(s) is the only one I know of, but there are a few more).

The videos released before MP3 came out hinted at phazon madness affecting marines. I would definitely use it as a plot device in any D20 game involving phazon. I figure the quantities of phazon used by PED marines were very small compared to the levels Samus used and was exposed to.

Anyways, that looks like an okay job with the stats. What the heck is phazon damage? Is it just a way of saying "this is energy damage that nothing currently on the books can resist?" I don't think I'd ever use this stuff. Stats for phazon and a PED, or whatever the heck Gandraya is might be more useful.

I also see no stats for metroids, which is utterly unforgivable.

I have stats for larval, adult, alpha, gamma, zeta, omega, queen, hunter, and fission metroids. I've already posted them a couple of other places on the boards, and will do so here as well in the next day or two.

I will be statting Rundas, Ghor, and Gandrayda sometime soon.

Edit: for further updates, look at the Metroid Bestiary thread. I am posting all of my old and new Metroid creations there.
