| cog_n_taz10-21-07, 04:37 AM | Now, there's a few things that restrict people from entering PrCs before a certain level. Among them are max skill ranks, spell requirements, BAB and feats. The last one is easily circumvented in most cases with flaws and such, and while I haven't found a way around BAB short of a less-than-practical item of permanent Tenser's Transformation, I think I can get around the first two quite nicely, this is how. Quori possession can be done by any Quori with a charisma of 13+ and 4 or more hit dice, this seems to include pretty much all of them. They take complete control, and the target has to be willing, not be warded by Protection From Evil and the like, and have a charisma of 13. They remain bonded until the Quori decides to offski, some form of exorcism is used, the Quori's body on Dal Quor is destroyed, or a Dispel Magic is cast on the host. Being possessed by a Quori gives you all sorts of benefits, but the important bit is thus... A Quori spirit retains all the psi-like abilities and spell-like abilities while possessing a human vessel. however, it cannot use any of its extraordinary or supernatural abilities. The quori spirit combines its skill ranks with those of its human vessel and either retains its mental ability scores or adopts the mental ability scores of the human vessel, whichever are higher. Emphasis mine. So, for instance, a human with the investigate feat, possessed by a Quori spirit with the right skills, could qualify for taking Master Inquisitive at 1st level. Thoughts? |
| Callix10-21-07, 07:33 AM | Pretty sweet... Once you have all the prerequisite ranks yourself, you can get rid of the posessor and the PrC qualifies for itself. Nice trick. Couple with Precocious Apprentice for maximum cheesing. |
| cog_n_taz10-21-07, 07:36 AM | So it works? Even after you walk into the thread? Yay! And yeah, it's evil and has total control of you... but I'm sure you can work something out using Planar Binding, no? |
| Callix10-21-07, 07:47 AM | So it works? Even after you walk into the thread? Yay! And yeah, it's evil and has total control of you... but I'm sure you can work something out using Planar Binding, no? Do I have that bad a reputation around here? I've only pulled down a couple of tricks, and usually they were minor flaws that only slightly reduced the overall effectiveness of the build. As to the totally evil etc, Planar Binding is a bit hard to get for the stuff where this really shines, in level 1-3 prestige class qualification. Just get an exorcism around level 10-13, once you actually have the needed ranks (from levels in the class that needed them to get in). Since skill ranks aren't lost, even if you don't qualify any more, you can use the skills gained in the PrC levels to retroactively "qualify" for the PrC. Until then, you're a thrall to an evil spirit of nightmares. But that's just backstory :D. |
| cog_n_taz10-21-07, 07:49 AM | You do tend to be the one to hit builds with cold, hard, monoliths of reality until they fall down, yes. And sure, that could work too. Remember, if things get outta hand, even a Dispel Magic will do. |
| munchlord10-21-07, 07:59 AM | or you could get your father who just so happens to be a former adventurer wizard of level 14 to do the planar binding... |
| cog_n_taz10-21-07, 08:01 AM | Yes, but that would be cheating. Well, unless your father is also an important quest NPC/Darth Vader, anyway. |
| ninja110-21-07, 11:27 AM | I don't have access to the Ebberon stuff, so forgive me if I am mistaken... If the Quori is in complete control, then I'd think that if either party received xp and levels, it would be the Quori. So the Quori could qualify for PrC's but not the poor host... |
| cog_n_taz10-21-07, 11:36 AM | That's in DM decision territory. Still, if a PC was temporarily demon-possessed, would that mean that they also can't get XP? I think not. |
| CrimsonDeath10-21-07, 03:46 PM | That's in DM decision territory. Still, if a PC was temporarily demon-possessed, would that mean that they also can't get XP? I think not. I think a more relevant question would be, "If a character is Dominated for an extended period of time, does he actually accomplish anything worth awarding XP over?" |
| cog_n_taz10-21-07, 07:14 PM | Which means you can send dominated monsters out to harvest XP? Either way, brokenation has been achieved. |
| ninja110-22-07, 03:18 PM | As a DM, I would be very careful before lumping domination and possession together. In most cases, yes they can be considered similar enough... Just to play devil's advocate, I'd consider a few scenarios. 1. Wizard X encounters a couple of monsters. She dominates one and commands it to beat the snot out of the other. At the end of the battle, she loots both of them and moves on. Perhaps she sends the dominated one running away, screaming "I'm a doughnut"... keeps it for the duration as a meat shield... or commands it to close it's eyes and kneel down before she surprises it with a scythe delivered coup-de-grace.... In this example, she: -participated in an encounter -only dominated a creature -defeated the creatures -earned xp as appropriate for the challenge rating 2. The PC is a Demon with the capability of possessing others.... or a spellcaster with the Magic Jar spell. The PC possesses a level 1 commoner, then joins the rest of her group to participate in an adventure. Through skillful use of buffs, cover, and good party tactics the PC survives and contributes to the success of the group. In this case, I'd say that the PC can gain xp since she was in control the whole time and she contributed to defeating encounter(s). I'd say that poor farmer Joe (ow whatever the level 1 commoner was) does not gain xp. Whether he was an observer unable to take any action at all, or locked away inside a spell focus, he took no action... thus he did not participate. 3. A group of PC's want to earn xp without any sacrifice at all and Dominate a horde of monsters... then send them out into a village to slaughter innocents while the group watches from flying carpets above. At this point, I'd ad-hoc an extremely minimal xp reward or non at all... The Challenge Rating guidelines empower a DM and enable him/her to avoid "brokenation". :D |
