| cog_n_taz07-06-07, 06:53 AM | First, I apologize for the number of threads I've created lately, and for any appearance of copying someone else's idea if this has been done before, which I suspect it has. The method Take repeat spell from complete arcane. Additionally, take residual metamagic (I think that was the name) from complete mage. Now, I don't have complete mage, so correct me if I'm wrong, but residual metamagic lets you cast a metamagic'd spell that you cast the round before with the metamagic added on for free. Repeat spell specifies that the spell is cast, in case you're wondering... A repeated spell is automatically cast again at the beginning of your turn in the following round. So, first round, cast a spell of your choice, with repeat spell on it, use any of a number of methods to make this free if you want to. Second round, apply repeat spell to the repeated spell, so that it happens again the next round, and the next, and the next, until you choose to no longer apply repeat spell. Now, as you are technically not casting the spell, (I think) you need not pay any material component or XP cost. Infinite wishes/miracles/spell of your choice, anyone? Bear in mind that the artificer can do this with spells they shouldn't even be able to cast by applying repeat spell to a scroll (powerful enough in its own right). What say you, TO board?:) |
| psly4mne07-06-07, 09:43 PM | Since you don't have CM: Lingering Metamagic: If you cast a spell affected by one or more metamagic feats, and then cast the same spell in the next round, you can apply any one of the metamagic effects from the first casting to the second casting, but without any change to the spell's level. The second spell doesn't count as being affected by a metamagic feat for the purpose of this benefit (that is, it doesn't entitle you to apply the metamagic feat to a spell you might cast in the following round). Only spells you cast using your own metamagic feats (as opposed to metamagic effects from magic items) allow this option to function. There still might be a way around it, but nothing comes to mind right away. |

| DrStalker07-16-07, 07:39 PM | It's still x3 instead of x2. More like 4-for-2 over 3 rounds. 1: cast spell w/ repeat feat 2: spell repeats cast spell (w/ free repeat feat) 3: spell repeats <do whatever you feel like> So for one cast increased by meta-magic and one normal cast you get the effect of 4 spells. Still a nice little combo, and the feats needed are also useful on their own so you don't give up much to do it. (and Lingering Metamagic sounds great if you're a meta-magic heavy caster that works off a core group of spells) |
| BillTheManiac07-16-07, 07:59 PM | 1: cast spell/w repeat feat 2: cast something free cast: spell w/ free feat: repeat feat 3: cast something free cast: spell (no free feat) The repeat counts as casting. Wait a second. You can use the feat twice in the same round. 1: cast spell+feat 2: cast spell free feat free cast spell w/ free feat 3: cast spell free cast spell free cast spell |
| cog_n_taz07-25-07, 12:09 AM | Eh? Didn't realize this was still alive, I hadn't visited it in ages... so, it actually works? If not infinitely, than atleast enough to be useful? |
| BillTheManiac07-25-07, 09:10 AM | Well, if you have X spell with feat prepared, then the output at each round will be equal to round number. It's "Buy X, get X(X-1)/2 free". If we can figure out a way to get infinite repeat ray of frost or something we're in good shape. |
