Has anyone ever built characters based off a theme that isn't directly represented in DnD in a player friendly way? Like wanting to play a Vampire but obviously not caring for LA+2 or 8 templates or a Dragon but not caring for the rational used to come up with the dragon character class progressions.

I'm gonna try and come up with a full fleshed out vampire like build that I think emulates the vampires to my knowledge of mythical lore. However I do admit it's based solely on my own knowledge and thoughts of what a vampire should be like, so im not trying to say im being totally original or unoriginal. Yet, I do think any ideas offered would be well welcomed.

ideas im currently thinking about using.
Cleric or Druid.
Cleric offers a lot of the spell power that I think a Vampire would have in most cases, especially if the right domains are picked. Such as Deathbound and Darkness domains. Infact my ideal vampire will have both.

the Druid offers a lot of the other supernatural abilities commenly associated with vampires, such as minor shapeshifting abilities, that being the wolf, rat and bat forms usually being associated with vampires. Some of their spells also fit the description as well, such as the various bite spells, Bite of the Werewolf respectively since it gives a humanoid wolf like features.

Feat wise, Tomb Tainted Soul definitely adds to the idea of undeath.
Undead Graft Vampire Fangs also add to it.
Race wise I think the Elan fit perfectly. If a Elan Cleric takes the spell Dweomer of Transference and applies it to himself he even gets to keep the races abilities useful.

Err, maybe this belongs on the CharOp or CharDev boards, rather than TO. What you've got seems pretty good, but this isn't the place for that sort of question/idea.

the Digital Character Conversion Thread does lots and lots of this.

Also, the somewhat humurous challenge. It really depends on what source you're looking for your vampires.
