| Brian.C08-08-04, 06:18 PM | Hello everyone. This is Brian.C, with a new project that I’m starting for all D20 Modern fans. You might remember me as the guy who converted the Masters of the Universe characters to D&D stats. Well now I’m starting a different cartoon. One of the best new cartoons to come out of Europe these days is Code Lyoko. It’s one of my favorites. And just for fun, I’m going to covert the Code Lyoko world to D20 Modern stats. Maybe some people will be inspired to create a Lyoko campaign after I do this – I don’t know. Let me say now, that you need familiarity with D20 Modern to understand this. So let’s get started. We’ll start with some background information: THE SECRET |
| Brian.C08-08-04, 06:21 PM | The Secret In an old abandoned factory in an unnamed city, close to a prestigious boarding school, lies a terrible threat to humanity’s very existence. Deep within the factory lies a powerful supercomputer; whoever built this infernal device, no-one knows, but sometime in the past, the computer became infected by an intelligent computer virus known only as XANA. XANA is a powerful being who desires world domination and despises humans. His powers are great – he possesses the ability to control any machine, telekinetically control objects and substances, and even take over the minds of animals. If left unchecked, he could destroy a city or worse. But he does not stand unopposed. Deep within his system lies a whole virtual world, known as Lyoko. Lyoko is littered with structures resembling towers, the key to XANA’s power. And within Lyoko lives XANA’s mortal enemy. She is called Aelita, and she is the sole sentient resident of Lyoko. An intelligent and sentient AI program whose origin is just as mysterious as XANA, she alone has the power to stop his evil plans. Aelita knows every square inch of Lyoko, and can sense when XANA is about to strike. Whenever XANA activates a tower to enact an attack, Aelita can invade the tower (providing she can get to it), and enter a secret password known as “Code Lyoko.” This not only halts whatever XANA is doing, but it activates a powerful effect in the space-time continuum, reversing the very flow of time on Earth to make certain no human is aware of whatever terrible thing XANA attempted. Naturally, XANA has made several attempts to kill or capture her, but she is not easy prey. She does not have to fight this war alone… Soon after XANA woke up, the factory was discovered by four teenage friends from the nearby boarding school, one of which, coincidentally, was a genius in computers. He discovered that there were parts of the computer system that even XANA could not control – the supercalculator, a nerve center that he could use to interact with Lyoko; and more importantly, a group of scanners. Using these miraculous devices, he could send his three friends to Lyoko, where they possessed superhuman powers. Now, whenever XANA threatens the city or the world, Jeremie can send his three friends Ulrich, Odd, and Yumi to protect Aelita until she can stop his mad plan. Although the group could easily destroy XANA by simply unplugging him, doing so would kill Aelita as well, and that would mean murdering an intelligent, sentient, benevolent being, who is just as worthy of life as the rest of them. Jeremie has found a way to bring Aelita to Earth, but until he finds a cure for the virus infecting her system, XANA remains a threat. And since he is working more than ever towards that goal, XANA is getting smarter and deadlier. Perhaps it is time for heroes to step up before the mad mainframe becomes two powerful for four humans and one AI program to handle… |
| Brian.C08-08-04, 06:26 PM | Running A Lyoko Adventure In a Lyoko RPG, PCs can actually portray Ulrich, Odd, and Yumi (and maybe even Aelita) but as we know, creating your own characters is more fun. With XANA’s attacks growing stronger, Team Lyoko will need all the help they can get. PCs will more than likely be students at the school who have somehow stumbled upon the secret of Lyoko. Character creation is done the same way that most D20 Modern characters are, with some guidelines: Starting occupation is always Student. Seeing as all members of private schools are from rich families, PCs gain a 1d4 bonus to their starting Wealth Bonus. A PC has two sets of scores for Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution. His or her Lyoko form has a 1d8 bonus to each of them. A PC also has a 1d8 Natural bonus to Defense and Initiative while on Lyoko (computer avatars are tougher) A PC does not have to spend money on weapons or armor (unless he wants to own them in the real world), but once he chooses them, he cannot change them unless he spends 500 XP per level to reprogram his Lyoko avatar, at which point he loses any former weapons. A PC should chose one supernatural ability that he can use while on Lyoko. This ability can imitate pretty much any spell, but must be limited to once per encounter, or have some sort of drawback attached (use the statistics I will provide for examples). A PC is free to design any cosmetic appearances for his or her Lyoko form. A PC gains no Reputation bonus other than that afforded by his level (or through the Renown or Low Profile feats). Though they may have saved the world numerous times, they must keep their activities secret and forfeit any fame. A PC who is killed – or de-virtualized – on Lyoko (reduced to zero hit points) is forced back to the real world through the scanners, and cannot return to Lyoko until the next time XANA attacks. Note that XANA has tried to sabotage the scanners several times, so this may not always be the case… XANA’s attacks are many and various. He can take over practically any machine, or telekinetically move any object with moving parts. He has created plagues and swarms – pretty much anything dealing with science is feasible, although some of his attacks more resemble magic (like creating a giant teddy bear). During a XANA attack, PCs have to do their best to stop it, but this doesn’t mean all of them going to Lyoko. Fans of the show know that all of the Team on Lyoko is a rare occurrence. Usually, some PCs will often have to stay behind to attempt to delay whatever XANA is doing, and possibly also work to prevent panic and evacuate areas. This creates a common challenge for GMs – splitting the party up. How it works on Lyoko usually consists of three steps – finding Aelita, protecting her from XANA’s minions, and getting her to the activated tower. Once she is there, she is able to stop the attack and create a time warp effect that turns back the clock until the time before the attack happened, ensuring that everyone except Team Lyoko remains blissfully unaware of the danger. (This also returns to Earth anyone on Team Lyoko who was not de-virtualized). However there is a limit to this miraculous ability: if the disaster kills anyone for real, setting back the time will not restore him or her to life. Coming up soon: Statistics for the leader of the group, Jeremie. More stats will follow. |
| Brian.C08-09-04, 01:16 PM | Okay, time for the first character. Seeing as he likely was the one who discovered the Secret in the first place, I thought I’d start with him. A note first. If these characters seem sort of tough for fifteen-year-olds, remember that they’ve been hardened by XANA’s repeated attempts on their lives. And anyway, this is an RPG. So let’s get started. JEREMIE Male Human Smart Hero 10 CR 10; Medium Humanoid (human); HD 10d6+10; hp 47; MAS 12; Init +1; Spd 30 ft; Defense 14, touch 14, flat-footed 13 (+1 Dex, +3 class); BAB +5; Grap +5; Atk +5 melee (1d3 nonlethal, unarmed strike); Full ATK +5 melee (1d3 nonlethal, unarmed strike); AL Team Lyoko, good; SV Fort +4, Ref +5, Will +9; Str 10, Dex 14, Con 12, Int 20, Wis 18, Cha 16. Note: For the rare times when Jeremie goes to Lyoko, his stats are identical to those listed above. Because he never bothered to create an avatar for himself, he has none of the bonuses the rest of his team has on Lyoko. Skills: Computer Use +30, Craft (electronic) +20, Craft (mechanical) +20, Disable Device +14, Forgery +20, Investigate +20, Knowledge (mathematics) +20, Knowledge (physical sciences) + 20, Knowledge (tactics) +20, Knowledge (technology) +30, Knowledge (XANA and Lyoko) +18, Repair +30, Research +20, Search +20. All bonuses Jeremie gets from his feats and Talents have already been factored in. Feats: Attentive, Builder, Cautious, Educated (x2), Gearhead, Jack of All Trades, Meticulous, Simple Weapon Proficiency, Studious. Talents Savant (Computer Use, Knowledge [Technology], Repair], Plan, Trick. Hack XANA (Ex): For most hackers, XANA is considered a computer with Maximum security. However, much to XANA’s chagrin, Jeremie has been dealing with him for so long, that he can defeat XANA’s security as if he were only a computer with Exceptional security. This makes it relatively easy for Jeremie to pinpoint the nature of XANA’s plans, given time. At the same time, Jeremie knows that XANA could easily poke his nose into his business, so he is prepared. XANA is considered to have a Computer Use bonus of +25, which would normally make it easy for him to hack into Jeremie’s computers; however, Jeremie has learned how to protect his hardware from XANA. Thus, both his notebook and desktop are considered to have Maximum security when defending specifically against XANA. If XANA manages to defeat his security anyway, Jeremie has installed a powerful anti-viral program to repel the attack; this requires XANA to make a Will save at DC 22 every round, or be forced to abandon the attack on the computer (XANA has a +5 Will Save bonus). Jeremie could also use the same program to “XANA-proof” any other computer system in the same way, given full access and enough time. It takes him one hour to install the program into a personal computer, two hours for a small office network, four for a large office network, and eight full hours to install it into a massive corporate network (note that, much to his regret, he’d likely never be allowed access to such important computer systems, but he could do so if he were). Lyoko Programming (Ex): Jeremie can use his Computer Use and Knowledge (XANA and Lyoko) skills to manipulate Lyoko in order to influence events there. He must make two separate checks to complete a program, the DC of which is determined by complexity, and is increased if he must do it fast (under the one-hour normal time). He first makes a Computer Use check, to see if the program is possible, and then the Knowledge check, based on his knowledge of Lyoko, to see if he can apply the program to Lyoko. An example that he has done before: When a Guardian captured Aelita, Jeremie attempted to create an illusory clone of her to confuse the creature and release her. For the Computer Use check, this ability mimics silent image, which would be a1st level Arcane spell in D20 Modern. This would take a base DC of 16 to program, if using the same criteria for learning the spell from a book, plus the standard DC of 20 to write a program. He must also add ten because he must do it fast – total of DC 46. He must roll a 16 or higher. He rolls 18 and succeeds. Next he uses his Knowledge skill to see if he can apply it to Lyoko. Since he knows Aelita on a very personal level, that is really no problem – only a DC of 15 would likely be required, so he only fails on a natural 1. Thus, in only about fifteen minutes, he creates the clone, and frees Aelita. If he must do this again, he can load the program instantly. Possessions: Notebook computer (Average security), Desktop computer (Exceptional security) with numerous hardware accessories, cellphone, portable calculator, dozens of storage disks, notebooks, and writing materials. Profile: Smarter than most adults Jeremie is a noncombative part of Team Lyoko, but in many ways, he is the most vital. He is the one who keeps tabs on the team during a crisis, lending them support and keeping them updated on every crisis. As a leader, he knows that a great deal of the burden of the responsibility put upon the Team has fallen upon his head. If Jeremie has one major vice, it is pride. He seldom likes to admit he was wrong, even in the rare instances when he has made mistakes. He also tends to be obsessive at times. His quest to materialize Aelita led him to trouble on more than one occasion, and caused him many sleepless nights. Often times, his teammates have to take him down a peg to remind him that he isn’t omniscient. History: Most likely, it was Jeremie who discovered the supercalculator, along with Lyoko and Aelita. Whether he was drawn there by a cry for help or whether it was simply an accident while surfing the net is unknown, but what is most likely is, he found Aelita when XANA was about to strike for the first time. Aelita knew she was in grave danger and begged for help. What choice did Jeremie have? He could either help this strange creature, or the mad mainframe could slaughter innocents. Thus, it was likely Jeremie, with Aelita’s aid, who took his three friends to the factory. He was able to use her help to create three powerful avatars to serve as defenders in the virtual world, ones that would act as a shield between XANA’s attacks and the nearly defenseless Aelita. When XANA finally did wake up, they were more than ready. Jeremie knew from the start that simply unplugging XANA was an option, but that would mean killing Aelita, something that he could not bring himself to do. Aelita did not deserve that. Besides, after several attacks by the insane computer, Jeremie was starting to fall in love with Aelita… and Aelita was starting to feel the same way. So Jeremie decided on a plan. He figured that if humans could be virtualized, why couldn’t Aelita be materialized? If he could create a solid body for her and transport her to Earth, there would be no need for Lyoko, and they could shut down XANA for good. But even with his great computer skills, this proved a daunting task. The right formula slipped out of his fingers several times. At one point, he succeeded by accident in creating the right program… but during XANA’s next attack, Yumi fell into Lyoko’s Digital Void, a deadly area which made her unable to de-virtualize. Jeremie was forced to use the one-shot program to save Yumi, and start all over with Aelita. Lacking any combat skills, Jeremy has actually gone to Lyoko only twice; the first time, when he believed Aelita was mad at him, was a disaster. He ended up caught in virtual limbo, and XANA tried to enact a program to erase him. Aelita was forced to travel to every region of Lyoko to restore the memory to his virtualization program to save him from oblivion. The second time occurred when XANA unleashed a vile trap which imprisoned Ulrich, Odd, and Yumi in a virtual prison that resembled the school. With only Aelita and Jeremie knowing the truth, Aelita virtualized Jeremie and transported him to the strange locale, where XANA finally confronted the heroes in a virtual form of his own that resembled another Jeremie. XANA’s own misconceptions about humans made his disguise fail, but the Team might have perished anyway had not Aelita destroyed the prison. Recently, Jeremie succeeded in materializing Aelita, and it seemed victory was within grasp. But XANA would not curl up and die. At the very last moment, he implanted a virus in Aelita, which ensured that if he died, Aelita would also perish, even if on Earth. After repelling his latest attack, Aelita knew that she had to remain on Lyoko, at least most of the time, because XANA was getting stronger and craftier, and he would not give up. Now able to materialize Aelita easily, Jeremie has a new goal – finding an anti-virus for her. But that task is proving just as hard as materializing her was. It seems that until that goal is met, Jeremie and his friends will have to continue to fight off XANA’s attacks – which keep getting more and more ferocious with each assault. Comments and criticisms are welcome. - Brian |
| DrakeRunner08-14-04, 10:53 PM | You're a brillian mind Brian, you do good work, and it looks good to me, but uh, seriously, find something else. If its one of the best things to come to Europe in a long time, Europe needs premium cable. Hell, Kids Next Door would be a better choice. At least they have lots of giant robots, cloaking monkeys, and disturbing morphing childrenpods. |
| Brian.C08-15-04, 07:35 AM | You don't like "Code Lyoko"? Well, I'm not aborting the project. A lot of people do like it. I considered KND - I am a fan - but it seemed a little too confusing. - Brian |
| Thomar_of_Uointer08-19-04, 01:46 PM | I would reccomend doing a .hack D20 instead of this. You'll get more support. |
| Brian.C08-19-04, 02:11 PM | I'm completely unfamiliar with .hack. Sorry. - Brian |
| Brian.C08-23-04, 06:29 PM | Hi, everyone. Sorry I've been late updating this little project, but I've been on vacation. So here's the next character, the first hero to appear on Lyoko, in "Teddygodzilla"; a guy with a thing for dogs, even though he himself is more reminiscent of a cat. Reviews and critisisms will be appreciated. - Brian |
| Brian.C08-23-04, 06:34 PM | ODD Male Human Charismatic Human 5 / Fast Hero 7 CR 12; Medium-Sized Humanoid (human); HD 5d6+10 plus 7d8+14; hp 82 (106); Mas 14 (18) Init +3 (+12); Speed 40; Defense 20, touch 20, flatfooted 17 (+3 Dex, +7 class) (28, touch 24, flatfooted 21 [+7 Dex, +4 Natural, +7 class]); BAB +8; Grap +`10 [B](+12); Atk +8 melee (1d4+2, unarmed strike) (+12 melee [1d6+4, claw] or +15 ranged [2d6 plus 1d6 electricity, laser arrow]); full attack +8 melee (1d4+2, unarmed strike) (+10/+10 melee [1d6+4 (x2), claws] or +13 ranged [2d6 plus 1d6 electricity (x3), laser arrows]); SQ precognition; AL Team Lyoko, good; Fort +7 (+9), Ref +10 (+14), Will +3; Str 15(19), Dex 17(25), Con 14(18), Int 14, Wis 10, Cha 17. Skills: Balance: +15(+19), Bluff +14, Climb +13(+15), Diplomacy +14, Escape Artist +14 (+18), Gather Information +14, Jump +13 (+15) Move Silently +15(+19), Perform (Stringed Instruments) +14, Spot +9, Tumble +15(+19). Note: Stats in normal writing are for Odd in the real world – starts in bold parenthesis are for his Lyoko form. Feats: Agile Riposte, Combat Expertise, Defensive Martial Arts, Dodge, Elusive Target, Exotic Weapon Proficiency (laser arrow), Improved Trip, Improved Two Weapon Fighting. Mobility, Point Blank Shot, Spring Attack, Two Weapon Fighting. Talents (Charismatic): Dazzle Fast Talk, Taunt Talents (Fast): Evasion, Improved Increased Speed, Increased Speed. Uncanny Dodge 1 Precognition (Su): While on Lyoko, Odd occasionally has glimpses of events that may or may not happen anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or so in the future. These events may be positive or negative, and if negative, there is a chance he (or anyone he tells them about) can prevent them from happening. This power is a strange thing that not even he understands fully. In game terms, every turn spent on Lyoko, there is a small chance (base 1-10 on %d) of Odd experiencing a precognitive vision, unless the GM wants to purposely send him one. The vision can be as clear or as obscure as the situation warrants. DM creativity is encouraged. It could act as a warning or a clue towards solving a particular dilemma. Odd’s Laser Arrows: On Lyoko, Odd is armed with a supply of “laser arrows” that he stores in his forearms. Whenever he arrives, he has ten in each arm, and can fire them without reloading. As they are stored in his body, he can not be disarmed. They have a range of 50 feet, and do 2d6 points of piercing damage, plus 1d6 points of electrical damage. Jeremie has a program that can reload Odd’s arrow supply once per mission, but doing so requires a full round action on Jeremie’s part; reloading brings the supply back to the maximum of 20. Possessions: Cellphone, bass guitar, manual guitar. (On Lyoko) Supply of laser arrows. Appearance: Sporting an unlikely hairstyle and wearing loud clothing, Odd tends to stand out at school. He sometimes wears shades, and is often seen with either his bass or his manual guitar. He is usually in a good mood, and it would take a great deal for him to lose his smile. On Lyoko, Odd is a warrior that combines the aspects of human and cat, complete with claws and a tail. He wears a purple jumpsuit, and his face is covered with markings that suggest feral warpaint. He seldom stands upright, and when in a hurry, he drops to all fours to run. Profile: Odd is an incurable prankster and joker, who’s sense of humor never wanes. In some regards, that is a good thing, because he keeps the morale of the Team up. Even when he’s in mortal danger, he never loses his sense of humor, laughing in the face of peril. Unfortunately, this can lead Odd to be somewhat reckless. He’s often the first to spring XANA’s traps, and often finds himself in a critical situation more often than not. But even when disasters happen, his smile never wavers. Of course, he quickly drops his humorous façade when the lives of his friends (especially Aelita) are in serious danger. While he seldom gets truly angry or frightened, he can get serious if the situation warrants. In battle, Odd takes the enemy head on, seldom caring how many hit points he has remaining or how low his arrow reserves get. If he runs out of ammunition, he’s more than willing to shield Aelita with his own body to protect her; doing so in the past has often meant the difference between success and failure. History: Odd’s origins are mostly unknown, but he clearly comes from outside of the country. Since he owns a dog named “Kiwi” (a violation of the school’s rules, but he hides him well), he might come from Australia. Odd apparently hooked up with Jeremie, Ulrich, and Yumi early in their schooling, and responded to the same event that caused Jeremie to meet Aelita for the first time. Since then, Odd has faithfully served as a defender on Team Lyoko, and has made a difference several times in thwarting XANA’s evil plans. In the real world, Odd often gets into trouble with numerous pranks and unfortunate occurrences. Most often his pranks are aimed at Sissy, his group’s nemesis, which has caused them a world of trouble. He at one point snuck his girlfriend Samantha (“Sam”) onto campus, only to have her steal a computer that she needed – Odd might have been expelled if the issue hadn’t been undone by the time warp that resulted from foiling XANA’s latest plan. Odd at one point formed a rock group called the Pop Rock Progressives consisting of himself, Ulrich, Yumi, Sissy’s henchman Nicholas, and the school PE teacher Jim, although the status of that project is not currently known. With Aelita now infected with a virus and XANA’s attacks getting deadlier, it remains to be seen how Odd will adjust. Possibly he’ll begin to look at his role with a more serious attitude – but even if that is the case, his unshakable morale will never falter. Comments and criticisms are welcome. Coming up next, a surly guy with a mean sword. - Brian |
| Elven_BladeMaster08-31-04, 09:50 AM | I considered KND - I am a fan - but it seemed a little too confusing. I know that it sounds daunting, but I would definitely want to aid in the creation of such a system. I could start by analyzing some of their equipment, though the game would run almost 100% nonlethal damage, except for the occasional exploding vehicle or something created by Father or the Delightful Children from Down the Lane. Two key articles would be the fact that each operative has a hamster backup, and that we're dealing with REALLY low ability scores due to the operatives' young ages. Star Wars D20 outlines age penalties quite nicely, actually. But perhaps we could cheat a bit and create a gimmick that allows KND agents to treat their scores as if they were young adults or perhaps even adults. Maybe, in times of stress, the KND training would take effect, causing the operative's age penalties to lessen or disappear. *Shrugs* PM me if you want to go further with the idea. |
| Brian.C08-31-04, 10:15 AM | You have the right idea, Blademaster. I haven't been getting much support for this thread, so I'm cancelling it. But I will be back soon with the project you just requested. Anyone who wishes a D20 campaign for laughs can look forward to my D20 Codename: Kids Next Door thread, coming soon. As Numbah One once said, "You're in, or you're old!" - Brian |
| marcoasalazarm10-26-04, 04:08 PM | Seriously, man, you WHAT?! Hey, understandably, this series doesn't has a lot of a follow-up (it's released in the Cartoon NEtwork, fersakes!), but I still like it. Look, understandably, no one is going to listen to me, or listen to this, but it there IS a fan of that series out there, (other than ME), then please send that guy a PM to try to revive that. And if you're reading this, and (well) you won't do it (KND D20, I suppose, is a LOT of work), then please PM me. I'd like to talk and see if I can take over the thread or something, post it somewhere else, see if it grows. -M.Salazar. |
| Brian.C10-26-04, 04:59 PM | Well Marco, so long as I have at least one fan, I'll continue this project then. You'll see the next character in a week or so. I can do both projects. Just promise to give me feedback. - Brian |
| Darth Sephiroth10-26-04, 07:48 PM | I like the show when I can catch it, it has quite a few great ideas that can lead to some insane situations. One suggestion is to look through the D20 Future web enhansement about the VR net, some of the things there could apply quite well. Don't get down about it, heck, i'm finishing up a conversion of Sonic the Hedgehog into a world for Stargate. Most people won't use it, but this is a great idea with applications for anyone who wants to run a cyber world adventure. But most people not using it isn't something to quit about, the people who do use it ought to get the most out of it, its like not everyone uses a specific setting, but ideas and abilities from other setting can make for a great enemy. |
| marcoasalazarm10-26-04, 07:48 PM | No problem, sir. I'll do it. I'll even tell a couple of friends of mine about this. Everything to keep this thread going, because, well, I'd seriously would like to see how the rest of the gang looks in D20 Mod. Those friends of mine, as well. BTW, ¿you the guy who wrote the Masters for D&D? My GM uses them on his campaign (well, somewhat modyfied. He's added stuff from recent Masters issues, I think). I was only a little kid when I first saw He-Man on T.V., had a figure of him and everything. You have no idea how much I liked the thread. And, BTW, saw the KND thread. Keep up the good work, Numbah! EDIT: I just shown the thread to one of these friends. He says that, well, seeing CL he thinks of a 'young-audiences-rated' version of Shadow. |
| Darth Sephiroth10-26-04, 08:23 PM | KND isn't something I'd like to run though, Code Lyoko is something that would be interesting with some modifications to it, perhaps a second computer is discovered elsewhere and you can have some interesting things happen. |
| marcoasalazarm10-27-04, 12:06 PM | Like I said, just a weird thought, and trying not to get too much out of thread (after all, I wanna see the stats), but... how do you think the Department 7 would "feel" like in the Code Lyoko universe? My thought is somewhat like this.... The Dept. is a run-of-the-mill part of the French Government, "Le Departement Sept du le Gendarmerie Nationale", in charge of such things as IA, investigations and such. The PCs have NO knowledge at ALL of the existence of Lyoko. But, of course, as their adventures go on, the PCs become aware of a strange feeling of deja vu that starts to become stronger as time goes on, and, wait a minute, the night before (or was it this night?) someone called to report a giant teddy bear rampaging thru the northern suburbs....? What is going on....? |
| Brian.C10-27-04, 12:38 PM | Interesting idea. Maybe eventually, I'll try to work Department 7 into this thread. But not right now. - Brian |
| Brian.C10-27-04, 08:48 PM | Okay guys, time for the next character. If Odd is the jovial member of the team, then this guy is certainly the darker aspect. He’s a hero in the same way Batman is a hero – and in some ways he’s even more mysterious. At least Batman’s motivations are well known. So without further ado… ULRICH Male Strong Hero 7/Fast Hero 5 CR 12; Medium-Sized Humanoid (human); HD 7d8+21 plus 5d8+15; hp 91 (103); Mas 16 (20) Init +6 (+12); Speed 30 ft; Defense 22, touch 22, flat footed 22 (+3 Dex, +9 class) (28, touch 24, flat footed 28 [+5 Dex, +4 natural, +9 class]); BAB +10/+2; Grap +13 (+15); Atk +13/+5 melee (1d4+3+2 [x2], unarmed strikes) (+15/+7 melee [2d6+5+2, katana]); SQ triplicate, triangulate; AL Team Lyoko, good; Fort +8 (+10), Ref + 8 (+10), Will +4, AP 8, Str 16 (20), Dex 16 (20), Con 16 (20); Int 14, Wis 15, Cha 17. Skills: Balance +11 (+13), Climb +13 (+15), Escape Artist +11 (+13), Hide +11 (+13), Intimidate +5, Jump +13 (+15), Move Silently +11 (+13), Spot +5, Swim +13 (+15), Tumble +11 (+13). Note: All stats in normal prints apply to Ulrich’s true form. Those in bold parenthesis, apply to his Lyoko form. Feats: Cleave, Combat Expertise, Combat Martial Arts, Defensive Martial Arts, Dodge, Elusive Target, Exotic Melee Weapon Proficiency (katana), Great Cleave, Improved Initiative, Mobility. Talents (Strong): Ignore Hardness, Improved Ignore Hardness, Melee Smash, Improved Melee Smash. Talents (Fast): Evasion, Uncanny Dodge 1, Defensive Roll. Triplicate (Su): While on Lyoko, Ulrich has the ability to create two clones of himself. This takes a standard action. These clones have all the abilities of the real Ulrich, with three exceptions: A) They have only ten hit points apiece, B) They lack the ability to Triplicate and Triangulate themselves, and C) They have no will of their own, and can only follow the will of the real Ulrich. They vanish instantly if Ulrich is knocked unconscious or put to sleep (or devirtualized, of course). The clones have a limited life span, lasting only three minutes, or until destroyed or reabsorbed. If they are destroyed it causes no damage to Ulrich, but he can reabsorb them (“fusion”), and gain whatever hit points they had remaining. Triangulate (Su): Once per mission, Ulrich can use a special version of Triplicate called Triangulate. When he uses this power, he and the two clones move as if under the influence of a haste spell for as long as the clones remain. Clones created in this fashion have an even shorter lifespan than normal, lasting only one minute. Otherwise, this power is identical to Triplicate. Possessions: Cellphone, various sports equipment. (On Lyoko) katana. Appearance: Ulrich is attractive, but doesn’t do much to encourage his good looks. His clothing rarely stands out, and he usually slouches. He almost never smiles in public. He has short brown hair and brown eyes. As far as clothing goes, he always wears the same drab t-shirt, jacket, and jeans. While muscular, he doesn’t have the exaggerated muscles of a bodybuilder. On Lyoko, Ulrich’s appearance is still grim, but more spectacular. He appears as a powerful Samurai dressed in a dark outfit, with a demonic face on the back, tight trousers, and a bandana around his forehead. He wields a powerful blade that can cut through XANA’s creations with ease. Profile: Ulrich is a kid who is complex to say the least. There appears to be a great deal of angst within in, as if some terrible secret lurks inside his head. He rarely appears happy, and when he is, he tries hard not to let it show. It is unclear what Ulrich’s motivation is on Team Lyoko. Although he gladly risks his life to defend Aelita and foil XANA’s plans, no one is certain why he chose the path of a hero. His true intentions for practically giving his soul to the cause remain a mystery to all but him. Where Ulrich really shines is in sports. He loves playing soccer, among other things, and has become the star center of Kadac’s team. Ulrich shares an ambiguous relationship with his teammate Yumi (who incidentally taught him martial arts). The two clearly love each other, but neither is willing to admit it to anyone, even each other. It’s a poorly kept secret – even Aelita, naïve as she is, knows about it. In combat, Ulrich is up front in facing danger, but he isn’t as reckless as Odd. He’s capable of accessing the situation and forming a strategy before charging in with his sword drawn. He often takes clever advantage of a total defense action to protect himself while thinking of a way to counter-attack. Like all members of the team, he knows that Aelita’s safety comes first, and his comes second. History: Ulrich’s history is even more elusive than his friend Odd’s. Where he comes from originally is unknown, and it isn’t clear at what point he met the three schoolmates who would become his teammates. He became Odd’s roommate, and despite frequent disagreements, they became best friends. Later, he took an interest in martial arts, something that Yumi agreed to teach him – possibly it was this interest that began the reluctant relationship that they now share. Whatever the case, when the four of them first met Aelita, Ulrich signed on, although whether he did so out of loyalty to his friends or some other reason remains a mystery. Likely, he never imagined he’d wind up playing the hero – but that didn’t mean he wasn’t capable of it. Both at and away from Lyoko, Ulrich’s life has been turbulent. Some would say that he has a problem even worse than XANA at times – the principal’s daughter, Sissy. Sissy has a major crush on Ulrich, but unfortunately for her, Ulrich will have nothing to do with the annoying (and at times cruel) spoiled brat. Sissy has tried numerous things to win Ulrich’s heart, even stealing his diary and blackmailing him. She has even gone so far as to try to convince him that she was his girlfriend and that his friends were his enemies after one of XANA’s attack’s left him with amnesia – but even amnesia couldn’t destroy his true loyalties. During his time with the team, Ulrich’s adventures have been rough. He’s been injured more times than he cares to count, and has had numerous close calls. Still, he keeps a straight (if emotionless) face through it all, determined to see it through to the end. Comments and criticisms are welcome. Coming next, the fourth member of the team, a geisha with a deadly flying blade. |
| marcoasalazarm10-27-04, 10:39 PM | Just adding a thing here. I just found the last names to the characters. Sort of.... Here goes. -Jeremie Belpois -Odd Della Robbia. -Ulrich Stern. -Yumi Ishiyama. -Aelita Lyoko (this is a name Yumi makes up to her parents in some episode). Of these, I only can confirm Yumi's (from memory, it was on a mailbox), and Aelita's (Yumi says she was a 'pen pal' or something). The rest I took from this page: http://www.tvtome.com/CodeLyoko/ BTW, Mr.C., liked the Ulrich write-up. Keep up! |
| Brian.C10-27-04, 11:39 PM | Yumi's last name, Ishiyama, has been mentioned in many episodes, including "Image Problem". Yumi made up Aelita's last name in "Code: Earth" when Yumi's parents were considering taking her in - they were asking questions about her "pen pal," and that was the best last name Yumi could come up with. The other characters' last names have never been mentioned in an episode of Code Lyoko. It's possible that the pilot episode (which was called "Garage Kids") had them, but I can't be certain because that pilot was never released in the United States. |
| Darth Sephiroth10-28-04, 11:31 PM | Some of the stuff from the VR net would work for this. |
| marcoasalazarm10-29-04, 02:30 PM | I suppose so. But I haven't had the time to go thru it on more than a skim. Maybe, in that peculiar ruleset, Lyoko could be a full-inmersion net. Maybe. |
| marcoasalazarm10-31-04, 12:29 AM | A little question here, that I hope doesn't twists the thread around, but I needed to get this off my chest, if a good Lyoko campaign is to exist on my group: Let's pretend for a minute that the PCs don't want to be part of Kadic High, but still want to be part of the Code Lyoko universe. They are part of the Department Seven I mentioned, or plain cops, or part of some super-spec ops team that is assigned with finding the cause for this mess, or whatever. No contact with XANA, no knowing of the secret, no virtualization (yet). My question is this, simply: If they do NOT know of Lyoko, ¿how are they supposed to keep renembering whatever happened after a return to the past?. One of my friends gave me the idea that, maybe, the characters' brain current is altered in some fashion, like Jonathan Silverman's character in "12:01" (Actually, we saw the movie, then CL, then the guy said: "Maybe my character can have that happening to him, and renembering what happened before the return"). This is just because, well, he just asked me this, and here I am, baffled. ¿Any help with this, pretty please? |
| Brian.C11-13-04, 10:27 PM | Hello everyone. Sorry this took so long, but I had things to do. So now here’s the fourth member of team Lyoko, a warrior-maiden who packs a steel fan… YUMI Female human Tough Hero 5/Fast Hero 5/Smart Hero 2 CR 12; Medium-Sized Humanoid (human); HD 5d10+40 plus 5d8+40 plus 2d6+8; hp 153 (165); MAS 18 (20); Init +6 (+10); Speed 30 ft; Defense 22, touch 22, flat footed 22 (+3 Dex, +9 class) (27, touch 23, flat footed 27 [+4 Dex, +4 natural, +9 class]); BAB +8; Grap +11 (+12); Atk +13 melee (1d8+3, unarmed strike) (+12 melee [1d8+3, steel fan] or +12 ranged [1d8, steel fan]); SQ telekinesis; AL Team Lyoko, good; Fort +9 (+10), Ref + 7 (+8), Will +6; AP 10, Str 18 (20), Dex 17 (19), Con 18 (20); Int 16, Wis 14, Cha 16. Skills: Balance +11 (+12), Climb +11 (+12), Computer Use +13, Escape Artist +11 (+12), Hide +11 (+12), Intimidate +11, Investigate +10, Knowledge (popular culture) + 11, Move Silently +10 (+12), Read/Write Japanese, Search +8 (+9), Sleight of Hand +11 (+12), Speak Japanese, Spot +10, Survival +11, Tumble +11 (+12). Note: Normal text applies to Yumi in the real world. Bold text apply to her Lyoko form. Feats: Brawl, Combat Expertise, Combat Martial Arts, Defensive Martial Arts, Dodge, Exotic Melee Weapon Proficiency (steel fan), Improved Brawl, Improved Bull Rush, Improved Disarm, Improved Initiative, Mobility. Talents (Tough): Damage Resistance -1/ -, Second Wind, Stamina. Talents (Fast): Defensive Roll, Evasion, Uncanny Dodge 1. Talents (Smart): Savant (Computer Use) Telekinesis (Su): On Lyoko, Yumi possesses telekinetic powers. She can, at will, use the 5th level mage spell telekinesis, lifting as much weight as if she were a 10th-level mage. The duration, however, lasts as long as she is able, for it comes with a price. She can use this effect safely for five rounds. After that, she begins to lose Strength points at the rate of one per round, until she either stops the effect or collapses (note that she will often willing give up all her Strength if the need is great enough.) Strength lost in this manner returns at a rate of one point per turn. Yumi’s Steel Fan: On Lyoko, Yumi’s weapon of choice is a sharp steel fan, which is considered an exotic weapon. It does 1d8 points of slashing damage and threatens a critical on a roll of 19-20. Not only can this be used as a melee weapon, but she can throw it as a ranged weapon, with a range increment of 20 feet. After throwing, this weapon returns to her hand if thrown right; Yumi can make a second attack roll against Defense 20 to catch it. Possessions: Cellphone, martial arts equipment, and (on Lyoko) steel fan. Appearance: Yumi is an attractive young lady, although her dress is what some might call “Goth.” She wears a black, long-sleeve shirt with a midriff, and black pants. Her raven hair is cut short. While usually friendly, the expression on her face when angry is enough to make even the toughest bully flee. On Lyoko, Yumi appears as a Geisha-type warrior wearing a colored gi with a floral design. Her hair is tied in a bun and her face is pale and delicate – a fragile appearance that hides her tremendous power. Profile: While Jeremie is the smartest member of Team Lyoko, Yumi is likely the one with the most common sense, and probably the one with the most skill. She is most often the one in the leadership position on Lyoko, as while she is a fighter, she has brains as well. Indeed, Yumi understands a little about the Supercalculator, enough to use it with Jeremie coaching her from a distance. If Jeremie can’t get to the factory, she can often mean the difference between success and failure. Yumi shares an ambiguous relationship with Ulrich. They clearly are attracted to each other, although neither will admit it to each other. Again, this is a poorly kept secret. Jeremie, Odd, and even Aelita often tease them about it. This makes Yumi arch-rivals with her classmate Sissy, who also pines for Ulrich’s affection. (Fortunately, Ulrich despises Sissy as much as Yumi does.) On Lyoko, Yumi is a clever fighter. She often takes advantage of a total defense action to repel attacks and keep her allies safe. Like the others, she thinks nothing of sacrificing herself to save Aelita (and at one point, she nearly made the ultimate sacrifice). History: Yumi Ishiyama was born in Japan, but her parents moved to France when she was an infant. She is a year older than her three friends (and is thus in a higher class), and unlike them, is a day student. Exactly how she connected with them isn’t known, but she eventually became part of their gang. A practitioner of karate and other Japanese martial arts, Yumi was eventually asked by Ulrich to teach him the skills. Perhaps this was when the two first became infatuated – indeed, the friendship eventually turned into teenage love. Reluctant love at best, but it has developed nicely. When the four friends met Aelita and became Team Lyoko, things changed drastically for Yumi… not all of it for the better. It sometimes seemed that XANA could guess that she was his greatest obstacle, and worked especially hard to take her out. Many of his deadliest attacks were aimed at Yumi, and she narrowly escaped death several times. At one point, Yumi barely escaped eternal imprisonment on Lyoko in her efforts to save Aelita. After an accidental discovery of a materialization process (which could only be performed once, due to its accidental nature), XANA launched an attack aimed at destroying the Supercalculator and the scanners, making transport to Lyoko impossible. During the mission, Yumi shoved a mega-tank away from Aelita to divert its aim, and plummeted into the Digital Void, a deadly place that would have rendered her unable to return to Earth, lost forever. However, Aelita graciously told Jeremie to use the one-shot materialization program on Yumi, saying she could wait a while longer for her own chance. Escaping this horrible fate has not deterred Yumi in the least. For as long as XANA continues his assaults, she will fight alongside her friends, in the hope that the virus infecting Aelita might someday be purged from her system and the nightmare will eventually be over. Comments and criticisms are welcome. Coming up next: She’s the last member of the team, but in many ways, she’s also the first. A cute little AI program, without whom there would be no “Code Lyoko.” You know who I mean. - Brian |
| marcoasalazarm11-14-04, 03:06 PM | Cool, man! Like the write-up. Gonna ask a friend of mine to "test drive" it later. A little question: you're going to write up the "CL" monsters soon, ¿right?. If that's so, ¿is it going to be the regularly-ocurring ones (the blocks, crabs, Mega Tanks and such), or you're going to add a couple of the one-shot ones, like that robot XANA built, or the pseudo-Xenomorph that pops up in an episode? Just asking, because my friend would like to introduce them to the business end of their guns. |
| Brian.C11-14-04, 03:24 PM | Yup. The monsters will be coming around soon. They'll be easier than the heroes. - Brian |
| Brian.C11-21-04, 08:19 PM | Time for a new character. She’s the fourth member of Team Lyoko, but in as lot of ways, she’s also the first. She’s the driving force of the team, and the reason for their existence. You know who I’m talking about… AELITA Female AI program Smart Hero 10/Fast Hero 5/Dedicated Hero 5 CR 20; Medium-Sized Outsider; HD 10d6+40 plus 5d8+20 plus 5d6+20; hp 160 (80); MAS 21 (15); Init +4 (+2); Speed 40 ft; Defense 29, touch 25, flat footed 29 (+4 Dex, +4 natural, +11 class) (25, touch 25, flat footed 25 [+4 Dex, +11 class]); BAB +11; Grap +11; Atk +11 melee (1d3, unarmed strike); SQ song, regenerate, outside manipulation, sense pulsations, Code Lyoko, virus; AL Team Lyoko, good; Fort +13, (+10), Ref +13 (+11), Will +14; AP 12, Str 10, Dex 18 (14), Con 18 (12)[B]; Int 23, Wis 16, Cha 18. [B]Skills: Balance +19 (+17), Climb +9 Computer Use + 34, Craft (electronic) +19, Craft (mechanical) +19, Decipher Script +21, Disable Device +19, Escape Artist +12 (+10), Hide +14 (+12), Investigate +21, Jump +12, Knowledge (tactics) +19, Listen + 11, Move Silently +14 (+12), Research +31, Search +19, Sense Motive +13, Spot +11, Treat Injury +11*, Tumble +14 (+12). *On Lyoko, Aelita can restore hit points and revive a stunned, dazed, or unconscious ally without the use of a first aid or medical kit. Note: Type in regular print applies to Aelita’s usual Lyoko form. That in bold applies to her rare human form. Feats: Acrobatic, Athletic, Attentive, Builder, Defensive Martial Arts, Dodge, Elusive Target, Gearhead, Iron Will, Lightning Reflexes, Mobility, Massive Damage Threshold, Reflexes, Stealthy, Studious, Track, Unbalance Opponent. Talents (Smart): Savant (Computer Use), Savant (Research), Exploit Weakness, Plan, Trick. Talents (Fast): Uncanny Dodge 1, Increased Speed, Improved Increased Speed. Talents (Dedicated):Skill Emphasis (Computer Use), Aware, Faith. Song (Su): Aelita’s most powerful ability on Lyoko is her song. As a full-round action, she can sing, causing one of the following three effects: * Reshape the environment as a wall of stone spell as if she were a mage equal to her current Smart level, except that it works on any solid material (such as ice or wood) not just stone. * Cast telekinesis as a mage equal to her Smart level. * Create a silent image as a mage of a level equal to her Smart level. Use the D20 Modern rules for converting D&D spells to this setting. However, this power is not without risks. Every time she uses her song, Aelita must sacrifice 50 of her current hit points. Thus, she uses it only in an emergency. Regenerate (Su): Like most living beings, Aelita can heal naturally, but she has a better way to heal. While inside a deactivated tower on Lyoko, she quickly recovers hit points at a rate of 1d8 per round. Lost limbs regenerate after 1d6 hours, unless they can be held to her body. Note that if injured critically, an ally might need to take her there. Outside Manipulation (Su): Like XANA can do, Aelita can manipulate and sabotage areas of the outside world while on Lyoko, if the need is great enough. She has only done this on a few occasions, as she is not malicious enough to make a habit of it – but she will if the need is great enough. Aelita does not have to activate a tower to do this like XANA must, but apparently her target must be close to a computer she can access (such as Jeremie’s notebook). Aelita can seize control of any computerized device or actual computer, making it run as she pleases of simply cause it to break down of self destruct. She can also control any machine with moving parts, manipulating it to her own ends. It is not known if Aelita can infect simple life forms like XANA has done in the past. Even if she could, controlling vermin does not seem her style. Aelita’s control over computers extends to the supercalculator and to the scanners, but not to XANA himself. (She can still use the computers in the towers to try to hack into XANA’s programming, but doing so does little to aid her – shutting him down would be suicide.) Sense Pulsations: Aelita can usually sense when XANA is active, and when he has activated a tower (and thus is planning an attack). Unless XANA purposely tries to hide this from her, she can trail these “pulsations” to the activated tower with ease. If XANA does attempt to hide it from her and she suspects he is up to something, she can make a Wisdom check opposed to XANA’s Wisdom check (XANA has a Wisdom of 12). She can repeat this check every ten minutes until she succeeds. Once she does, she can trail the pulsations as normal. XANA’s best chance at fooling her is to not draw attention until he believes it is too late. Code Lyoko (Ex): Whenever XANA launches an attack on the outside world, he does so by activating one of the many towers on Lyoko by infecting it with a virus. Aelita is the sole being who can shut down these infected structures, which in turn, activates the powerful time warp effect. Once Aelita enters the tower, there is nothing that XANA can do to stop her, but it takes three full rounds for her to ascend to the tower’s peak and enter the code. When time is of the essence, getting to the tower on time is often key. Virus (Su): More a curse than a special ability; when Aelita was finally materialized, XANA made a last-ditch attempt to save himself, which he was apparently saving for just such an occasion, and infected her with a virus that linked their life forces. If she is on Earth, XANA cannot be shut down without Aelita also dying. If XANA is shut down, Aelita loses consciousness, and starts to lose hit points at a rate of ten per round. She receives no saving throw, and she has no way to survive other than someone else restoring power to XANA. Because this virus is technological in nature, spells like remove curse[ and cure disease have no effect. Jeremy constantly works on an antiviral program; whether he’ll succeed is not yet known. Appearance: Aelita appears in a form that many on some worlds would call an elf. She has a delicate, angular face, and ears that taper to points. Her hair is light pink and her large eyes are green. Her limbs are thin and appear fragile, hiding the agility of an Olympic-level athlete. She wears an odd pink and beige outfit that looks like it came out of some science fiction movie. She rarely wears a negative expression, except when danger is surrounding her and her teammates. In her rarely seen human form, her clothing is more terrestrial and her ears are normal, but little else is different. Possessions: None Profile: What is she? Where did she come from? All that is not widely know, and only a few things are certain. Aelita is an AI program who is native to Lyoko, and for as long as she has been in contact with humans, she has existed to foil the attempts of XANA for global dominance. Aelita presents herself as a friendly individual who rarely has a bad word to say about anyone. She might give a small tease now and then when her teammates are worried about something trivial, but never anything hurtful. Some people mistake Aelita’s innocence for vulnerability. Once Jeremie mistakenly believed he had hurt her feelings and risked his life to go to Lyoko to apologize. At any rate, the members of Team Lyoko have nothing but respect for her dedication and bravery, calling her pet names like “Princess” and taking any risk to protect her. Aelita is in love with Jeremie (something that neither of them even attempt to hide, even though it embarrasses Jeremie), and constantly flirts with him when XANA is dormant. His one-year quest to materialize her, which has now grown into a quest to find an anti-virus, has made them become closer than ever. In the heat of a battle, Aelita depends mostly upon her defenders. Although she is higher level than them, she has no combat skills (although she has many defensive skills), and cannot even use any weapons other than simple ones. Not that she is completely helpless. In the past, she has made clever use of her powers to mislead and even destroy monsters bent on destroying her. In the past, Aelita was in danger of a fate that the rest of Team Lyoko didn’t usually have to worry about: having no human body to go back to, she would die for real if killed on Lyoko. It is uncertain if she still has that handicap, now that she does indeed have a human body on program. Of course, the point is moot. Even if she were to be reborn on Earth if defeated on Lyoko, XANA would be victorious, because Aelita is the only one who can deactivate the infected towers. So long as XANA continues, so will Aelita. She knows every square inch of Lyoko, and can navigate with little difficulty. She spends most of her time hiding in one of the neutral towers where XANA can’t find her, often using the computerized equipment to study Earth via means of the internet. If she has a weakness at all, it’s that she’s very naïve, and ignorant of human ways. When confronted by large groups of people, she has proven very shy and even frightened. History: Aelita’s history is virtually unknown, and most of it is hearsay. Since she is a program, logic indicates that she must have been written by someone. Exactly who remains a mystery. Possibly, it was the same one who built and programmed XANA, and thus likely her creator is no longer alive. Most likely, Aelita first reached out to the outside when XANA was preparing to make his first attack. She couldn’t stop him alone, so she sent a plea for help over the internet. As fate would have it, the plea was received by Jeremie. The young student took his three brave friends to the factory that the odd being directed them two, and she explained what had to be done. Whatever Aelita promised them is not known, but they agreed to help her. She used her vast knowledge of the supercalculator system to create three powerful avatars, and they made the journey to Lyoko for the first time. XANA quickly realized that Aelita was a potent threat to his plans. To that end, he has focused many attempts on killing or capturing her. However, Aelita no longer was alone, and had four heroes who were willing to defend her. Jeremie knew that the madness could be stopped immediately by simply shutting XANA down – but doing that would destroy Lyoko, and Aelita with it. He couldn’t let an innocent die in order to take the easy way out. Eventually, he had an idea: if the scanners could virtualize humans, could they not also materialize virtual beings? He started researching a way to bring Aelita to Earth, so that XANA could be destroyed once and for all. Still, even with his incredible computer skills, this task seemed monumental. Try as he may, his attempted programs always crashed. One time he succeeded by accident – but when XANA most recent attack caused Yumi to fall into the digital void, Jeremie had to chose between using the one-shot program to save Yumi, or leaving her trapped forever. He had no choice, and had to wait to materialize Aelita. Eventually, however, Jeremie finally succeeded, but XANA would not curl up and die. As a last resort, he implanted Aelita with a virus, linking her life force to his. This ensured that, even if she were on Earth, killing him would kill her as well. When another attack became nearly the deadliest, Aelita knew that she had to stay on Lyoko, as XANA was becoming more insidious than ever. Aelita continues to keep watch on Lyoko, but at least she can now visit Earth for an hour or two at a time. Jeremie’s quest has changed, and he now seeks to find an anti-viral program to end the threat of XANA once and for all. However, finding the program might prove even harder than his former task – especially since XANA won’t give up either. Coming up next: Instructions on how to work Department 7 or another D20 Modern campaign into this scenario; then some info on minor characters; and then… here there be monsters… - Brian |
| marcoasalazarm11-21-04, 08:35 PM | Man, thank you, THANK YOU for statting Aelita.... seriously needed her for the game and all.... now I can test-drive them on an adventure. Hey, man two things: -If you need help with the Dept. 7 stuff (adventure hooks or something) PM me. I'd be glad to help. -I posted a thread on the Anime section for a new setting I'm working for. I'd be glad if you helped me w/ideas. |
| marcoasalazarm12-05-04, 09:22 PM | Sorry about the lack of response on my side here: Complete lack of time due to University stuff (that it's a course that I REALLY suck at doesn't helps any): Little question concerning Lyoko: ¿How much liberty do you think the characters should have when creating a Lyoko form? ¿Should the characters have only access to "ancient" weapons (bows, swords and the like) or could they have access to more "modern" gear? This is to prevent the creation of an overtly powerful character, just because I let the guy take an assault rifle to Lyoko..... Just for the sake of laughs..... ¿Who would win? ¿A guy armed with a SRS99C Sniper Rifle (from "Halo") or a Mega Tank? |
| Brian.C12-05-04, 10:20 PM | That is up to you. I see no harm in a Lyoko character using a modern weapon, but not one that is too powerful. Something like a shotgun is okay, but a sub-machinegun might be too much. Remember the exotic theme of this show - possibly if a hero is to use a gun, a weapon that looks like an old-fasioned musket but works like a flaming burst shotgun is a good idea. As for your question... wait until I do stats for the mega-tank, and see for yourself. And my next contribution to this post will be tomorrow. - Brian |
| Brian.C12-06-04, 01:17 PM | Putting Code Lyoko Into Your Campaign What follows are suggestions for implanting a “Code Lyoko Campaign” into an existing D20 Modern campaign, possibly using Department 7. Naturally, this type of campaign only works with certain types of characters – teenagers. Adults aren’t likely to get involved with Jeremie’s gang, unless the GM is up for some serious role playing. If the GM is unwilling to shift the campaign to France (where Department 7 likely has branches), this can easily be solved by moving Kadac Jr. High and the factory to wherever the PCs city of operations is. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t matter where the locale of the real world is, because Lyoko is in another place entirely. In the beginning of the campaign, the PCs can spend their time doing what normal PCs do in a campaign like Urban Arcana… investigating Shadow-related threats and menaces. They start off blind to XANA’s attacks, because everyone, Shadows and Shadow-sensitive included, are wiped of the memories of his evil plans when the time warp is triggered. But it IS true that the PCs in these campaigns see things that most people don’t see, and maybe their abilities transcend those of other gifted individuals. Eventually, a serious sense of déjà vu starts to creep into them from time to time. They begin to have strange memories… A memory of a giant teddy bear attacking the city… A frightening news report of two trains about to collide… One PCs little sister downloading a song from the internet that sent her into a coma… But all this never happened… or did it? Eventually, the PCs start to recall XANA’s attacks as if they were crystal clear, an they may think that they’re going nuts from the fact that something is erasing them from existence and they are the only ones who seem to know. Can Shadow be involved? It’s time to investigate… The GM will have his work cut out for him, and eventually, the heroes will discover the secret that Jeremie and his friends are hiding. They might be torn at first at what to do. Clearly, the best thing to do would be to destroy XANA to stop the attacks, something Team Lyoko would beg them not to do for Aelita’s sake. The PCs must realize that an innocent life is at stake here, and furthermore, knowing the secret presents them with the responsibility to keep it – and perhaps aid the Team on their struggle against XANA. Of course, what goes around comes around. Jeremie, Ulrich, Odd, and Yumi might soon find that they are gifted as well, and are able to see Shadow creatures for what they are. Even without their Lyoko forms, they are formidable, and can provide a defense against the monsters that plague the world. It may turn out to be worse than previously believed. XANA himself might have been built and programmed by a Shadow creature (maybe an illithid or a fiend) who had some sinister motives in mind. This would possibly make Aelita a Shadow herself, albeit a benign one. From here, the possibilities of combining Lyoko with Department 7 are various. When XANA discovers that meddlers from the Department are interfering with his plans (and worse, he has more defenders to deal with), he may realize the value of alliances, and contact powerful Shadowkind, offering deals in exchange for help. Villains from Urban Arcana like Louis Corsone, Anastasia Markova, or even Franz Draco might be interested in the power XANA can offer. This, of course, can lead to many twists and turns. Perhaps a villain can construct another way of getting to Lyoko; the Team will soon have to deal not only with XANA’s monsters, but virtualized Shadowkind sent by XANA’s allies. Since creatures from the real world don’t truly die when defeated on Lyoko, taking down a virtualized opponent is only a temporary victory – he or she will return sooner or later. In any case, if heroes stumble onto the secret, they may have no choice but to sign on – they will have just made it all the harder for Team Lyoko to handle. |
| Brian.C12-06-04, 01:18 PM | Minor Characters What follows are some descriptions of the supporting cast of the show, as well as ways they could interact with the heroes. All of them are Ordinaries (not heroes), but they still can provide the backdrop to good storylines. Sissy: (Charismatic Ordinary 5) The daughter of the school’s principal, Sissy is a constant thorn in Team Lyoko’s side. A veritable spoiled brat who always has to have her way, she has driven them crazy since day one. Vain, egotistical, and mean-spirited, she has few good points. She has an incurable crush on Ulrich, who will have nothing to do with her; but she will try every dirty trick to try to win him over, even resorting to blackmail at one point. Sissy is rarely seen without her two henchmen Nicholas and Herb, and she’s even mean to them. In the game, Sissy exists to torment the heroes in the same way she does on the show. She has a crush on Ulrich, but she won’t hesitate to try to add another boy to her list of potential suitors. Worse, if XANA ever finds a way to use mind control, Sissy may be the first one he goes after… Herb: (Smart Ordinary 5) One of Sissy’s cronies, Herb is even more annoying than she is. He thinks himself smarter than Jeremie (wishful thinking), and while he has some skill with machines, he’ll always be second best (if that). Herb has a bit of a crush on Sissy, but she treats him like dirt, something he doesn’t seem to mind. Nicholas: (Tough Ordinary 5) Sissy’s other crony, Nicholas isn’t too bright, and rarely is able to do anything but follow Sissy blindly (although when Aelita appeared in their class, he seemed to have a slight crush on her). Probably Nicholas’s best talent is performing on drums, and he even joined Odd, Ulrich, and Yumi’s band for awhile. In a game, anyone who wants to deal with Sissy will likely have to deal with these two goons as well. They aren’t exactly dangerous, but they can be annoying at times, and get in the way of a mission when it’s important. Millie and Tamia: (Dedicated Ordinary 3) Millie and Tamia are two young students who fancy themselves hotshot reporters, and like all reports, they are willing to do anything to get the big story. They’re willing to bend the rules as far as they can without breaking them to get a good scoop. While these two mean no harm, they can prove a serious threat if the heroes need to keep something secret. Millie and Tamia are curious, and will poke their nose into anyone’s business to get their “big story” – and they may learn more than they should… Emily: (Fast Ordinary 5) Emily is a classmate of the team, and a friend of Ulrich. He once turned to her for companionship when lonely – but unfortunately, Yumi got the wrong idea for awhile, and Sissy only made it worse to try to drive Ulrich and Yumi apart. Emily can make a good peer or even a small crush on a hero who attends the school, and provides the potential for one who must be aided in a crisis. Jim: (Tough Ordinary 7) Jim (“Jimbo” to his friends) is the school’s PE teacher and handyman. Smarter than he looks, he has always been somewhat suspicious of Jeremie and his gang, always noticing their strange plotting, and seems to know that they are up to something. When Aelita was finally materialized, Jeremie was actually forced to confide in Jim the secret of Lyoko in order for the plan to succeed, and he became an honorary member of the Team for awhile. He even played the hero in XANA’s next attack by defending the school while XANA sent a swarm of roachsters to Earth. Unfortunately for Jim, he forgot the whole experience when time was set in reverse – but the Team still bears him a good deal of gratitude. Heroes should always be wary of Jim, because he still believes that Jeremie’s gang up to something. He doesn’t know what exactly, but he’s certain it’s no good. Jim might serve to delay them when a crisis needs to be averted, and getting past a teacher is no easy feat for a student. (Bluff skills can be put to good use here…) Ms. Hertz: (Smart Ordinary 7) Ms. Hertz is the team’s physics and science teacher, and is thus one of Jeremie’s favorites. She’s a dedicated teacher who believes in the value of education, and somewhat of a workaholic. The team has had to rescue her when XANA has targeted the building on more than one occasion. Heroes who are students are more than likely to know Ms. Hertz, and she can actually be of aid at times. If a question regarding science needs answering and Jeremie is unavailable, there are worse places to turn to. The Principal: (Smart Ordinary 8) Kadac’s principal (who’s name has not been revealed), is a dedicated man who also believes truly in the value of education. He’s also very interested in the welfare of his students, and runs the school in a fair but disciplined manner. He’s always willing to discuss a problem with someone before issuing a punishment, but he can be strict when pushed – he has even disciplined Sissy rather harshly at times. Heroes have to do their best to avoid the principal’s eye when making their next move against XANA. If they slip up and get detention, it might be hard to escape to save the day. Many members of the current team know that dealing with him is no easy task. Nurse Dorothy: (Dedicated Ordinary 7) For members of Team Lyoko, injuries usually aren’t a problem, as they heal when time resets itself. But if an injury of sickness occurs that needs immediate attention, Dorothy is the woman to see. She runs the school infirmary, and she’s good at her job. Unfortunately, this proved to be an obstacle for the team at least once. When Jeremie twisted his ankle, Dorothy wouldn’t let him leave, and he had to get Jim to help him escape the infirmary so he could save Aelita! A similar situation could happen in a game setting. Dorothy is dedicated to her charges, and thinks she knows what’s best for them, so a hero might have to find a way to escape from the infirmary if he or she is needed on Lyoko. At other times, Dorothy can easily fix a sprained ankle or a bruised knee and make life easier. Coming up next: Monsters appear! The start of the stats of the various monstrous minions of XANA that plague Lyoko, done in D20 Modern style. Don’t miss it. - Brian |
| marcoasalazarm12-06-04, 04:36 PM | Yep, thank, you, Brian!. THIS is the answer to my prayers. |
| marcoasalazarm12-12-04, 04:41 PM | BTW, my own idea to answer that question I asked: Guy w/sniper rifle would win, no sweat, if the Mega Tank opens up. If not, well, then at least the bullets are big enough to shove the thing into a bad place. |
| Brian.C12-17-04, 09:16 PM | Welcome to the latest installation of this ongoing project. For as long as XANA has opposed the heroes, Lyoko has been infested with monsters. From small roachsters to gargantuan mega-tanks, these creatures exist to do the bidding of their malevolent master, which usually means hunting down and destroying Aelita and anything that tries to get in their way. What follows is the first two of the monsters known to exist on Lyoko. More will come. All of XANA’s monsters have a few things in common. All of them are considered Constructs. However, they have intelligence scores (although they are low), and gain Skills and Feats as if they were Aberrations. As Constructs, all of XANA’s monsters have no Constitution score. They have darkvision to 60 ft. They are immune to mind-influencing effects, poison, sleep, paralysis, stunning, disease, necromantic effects, and any effect that requires a Fortitude save unless the effect also affects nonliving objects or is harmless. They are not subject to critical hits, nonlethal damage, ability damage, ability drain, energy drain, or death from massive damage, but upon reaching zero hp they are instantly destroyed. They cannot heal hp naturally, but they can be repaired (but only by XANA if he uses his own Repair skill; this ability will be covered in XANA’s entry). On the show, monsters have an obvious Achilles heal – they can be blown away by striking the image of XANA’s symbol on them. In game terms, however, this rule does not apply – they must be defeated by reducing their hit points to zero. Monsters on Lyoko seem to have one limitation to travel – they cannot enter any of the various towers, even one which XANA has control over. This is perhaps fortunate, because if they could, XANA could have a nasty surprise waiting for Aelita at the end of a mission. Heroes are reasonably safe from monsters in any tower. (Reasonably, that is. If XANA knows they are in one, he could try to smash it down as he did on one occasion.) On one occasion, XANA managed to send a swarm of one type of monster (roachsters) to Earth. If he ever manages to do this again with any monster, stats do not change for them. Now then, onto the first two creature features. |
| Brian.C12-17-04, 09:17 PM | ROACHSTERS Standing about two feet tall and weighing five pounds to a virtual point of view, roachsters are perhaps the weakest of XANA’s minions. Alone, they are not much to worry about; unfortunately, these annoyances are never found alone. Hunting in packs of five to ten most of the time, they seek out enemies and pursue relentlessly, trying to lure them into a deadly crossfire. While not very intelligent, they are cunning and can work as a team. Having no melee attacks, roachsters depend on their laser guns mounted below their “faces” for combat. This weapon has a range of 60 feet, and can fire once per round. Like most of XANA’s monsters, it is no specific form of energy, and no spell designed to protect against an energy form can repel it. Species Traits Spider Climb (Ex): Roachsters can scale walls and sheer surfaces as if under a permanent spider climb effect. CR 2; Tiny Construct; HD 2; hp 10; Init +3; Spd 40 ft; Defense 17, touch 15, flat-footed 14 (+3 Dex, +2 natural, +2 size); BAB +1; Grap -8; ATK +1 ranged (1d10, laser beam); full attack +1 ranged (1d10, laser beam); FS 2ft by 2ft; Reach 0ft; SQ Construct traits, spider climb; AL XANA; SV Fort +0, Ref +3, Will +0; Str 10, Dex 16, Con –, Int 8, Wis 6, Cha 6. Skills: Balance +3, Hide +3, Spot +3 Feats: Point Blank Shot |
| Brian.C12-17-04, 09:18 PM | HORNETS These insect-like creatures form the air force of XANA’s military. At one point, hornets were stupid creatures that just attacked blindly, but somewhere down the line, XANA upgraded them, making them smarter and able to strategize. Numbers range in size from as few as five to swarms of twenty (or more). Agile and quick, these fierce flyers are hard to get a bead on. They try to cover an area with their deadly poison first before swooping in for the kill. Their primary weapon is a laser gun from their abdomen with a range of 60 feet that can fire once per round. Again, it is no specific form of energy, and no spell designed to protect against an energy form can repel it. Species Traits Poison Spray (Ex): In lieu of making its normal attack, a hornet can choose to spray a stream of corrosive poison at its target. This attack is considered a splash weapon, doing 1d12 points damage on a direct hit, and 1d4 points damage to those in a 10-foot splash. Even worst, the poison lingers in the splash area for 1d6 rounds. Anyone in that area until the poison evaporates takes 1d10 points damage until he leaves the area. Fortunately, a hornet only has enough poison in its reservoirs for two such attacks. CR 3; Tiny Construct; HD 2; hp 10; Init +4; Spd fly 50 ft (average); Defense 18, touch 16, flat-footed 14 (+4 Dex, +2 natural, +2 size); BAB +1; Grap -8; ATK +1 ranged (1d10, laser beam); full attack +1 ranged (1d10, laser beam); FS 2ft by 2ft; Reach 0ft; SQ Construct traits, poison spray; AL XANA; SV Fort +0, Ref +4, Will +0; Str 8, Dex 18, Con –, Int 10, Wis 6, Cha 8. Skills: Hide +4, Move Silently +4, Spot +4 Feats: Point Blank Shot Comments and criticisms are welcome. Be here next time as two more monsters crawl out of the virtual world… - Brian |
| marcoasalazarm12-17-04, 09:39 PM | Just to celebrate this, here's my idea for an introduction adventure: "False Start Redux". Characters have been recently assigned to the Departement Sept du Le Gendarmerie Nationale, assigned to patrol on the suburbs surrounding Kadic Junior High (which is in Northern France). They're called to check on a possible riot happening near the school (or the school proper, if desired by the GM), only for the PCs to be ambushed by a big bunch of Roachsters! Of course, they're going to fight them off and keep them away from the Jr. High for as long as necessary, until a big light starts coming at them.... The PCs, then, suddenly start to re-live the day, their first thought is... "¿What the HELL happened?" Just an idea, of course. If you want to up the ante, have the characters fighting off Hornets or even Cubes (making them the reason why there were none at Kadic on that day). |
| Brian.C12-17-04, 10:07 PM | That is indeed a good idea for a hook Marco. And I encourage anyone who likes the idea of this campaign to try it out. Expanding your idea, incidently... PCs in this situation might realize that this isn't your average Shadowkind threat. Most shadows are reclaimed by their home realm when they die, vanishing into nothing. But the PCs find that when these strange mechanical creatures fall, the corpses remain. Obviously, this is a threat of a different type. Indeed, PCs might wonder about the nature of the roachsters while they are fighting them. While they are used to all sorts of weird monsters in their buisiness, little robots packing laser beams seems out of place for creatures of shadow. All of this must be considered for a hook to start a Lyoko campaign, as the PCs realize there are more dangers around then they think... |
| marcoasalazarm12-29-04, 04:59 PM | Another adventure idea: "Code: Chrome" The PCs arrive at an annual car exhibition-somewhere a little far from Kadic-for whatever reason-see the cool cars, or participate with one of their own-when XANA attacks by infecting the more gadgets-laden cars. The PCs must prevent the cars of running over somebody-and chase any car that got away. Any PCs that are going to Lyoko-which, hopefully will be in the exhibit as well-will be chased by the cars, ensuing a little Mad Max-style madness thru the streets near thw factory. |
| Brian.C12-29-04, 05:34 PM | Don't worry, when I finish with the stats, I intend to do a section on starter-adventures. |
| Brian.C01-09-05, 06:27 PM | Hi everyone. Time for two more creepy crawly creatures that continually plague Team Lyoko. Sorry this took so long, but you know – the holidays. So without further ado… BLOKS These odd creatures form the foot soldiers of XANA’s virtual army, and are far more formidable than the weak roachsters and hornets. The term “bloks” describes these creatures completely. They are cubical creatures with four spidery legs on their bottoms, and an eye bearing XANA’s symbol on each of their four faces. These creatures can be encountered alone, or in groups of up to ten; at one point, XANA formed an army of at least twenty-five, but that was likely because he was very angry at the time. Like their smaller cousins, a blok’s primary weapon is a ray of energy which it shoots from its front. The range is effective to 100 feet, and can fire once per round. This ray is no specific form of energy, and no spell designed to protect against an energy form can repel it. While these beasts look clumsy, they are in fact surprisingly agile, and a worthy challenge. Species Traits Spider Climb (Ex): A blok can scale walls and sheer surfaces as if under a permanent spider climb effect. All Around Vision (Ex): A block can see on all sides of its body. It cannot be flanked, and gains a +5 bonus to Spot checks unless its foe is invisible or hidden in a similar way. Freeze Ray (Ex): In lieu of making its normal attack, a blok can shoot a freeze ray at an opponent. If it does this, it cannot shoot its freeze ray again for 1d6 rounds. Anyone hit by a freeze ray takes 3d6 points of cold damage, and must make a Fortitude save (DC 16), or be frozen in place for 1d6 full minutes. A frozen victim is effectively paralyzed and unable to act, losing all Dexterity benefits to AC, but also gains a +10 Natural bonus to AC until the effect wears off. Bloks know by instinct that their chances of harming a frozen victim is low, so they usually take the opportunity to concentrate on another foe. CR 5; Medium-Sized Construct; HD 5; hp 30; Init +2; Spd fly 30 ft; Defense 16, touch 12, flat-footed 14 (+2 Dex, +4 natural); BAB +3; Grap +5; ATK +2 ranged (1d12, laser beam); full attack +1 ranged (1d12, laser beam); FS 5ft by 5ft; Reach 5ft; SQ Construct traits, spider climb, all-around vision, freeze ray; AL XANA; SV Fort +1, Ref +3, Will +0; Str 14, Dex 14, Con –, Int 10, Wis 8, Cha 10. Skills: Hide +8, Listen +5, Search +5 Feats: Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot KRABS These beasts form the backbone of XANA’s evil army. Monstrous armored contraptions that stand ten feet tall, they look like rust-red droids on four spindly metal legs. XANA’s symbol is painted on what passes for a face. Traveling singly or in packs of up to four, they can quickly decimate a foe. Although they are able to strike punishing blows with their forelegs, they bear dangerous lasers that work like machine guns, able to fire five times in one round. Again, these weapons fire energy that is no specific form of energy, and no spell designed to protect against an energy form can repel it. Fortunately, it is only effective to 50 feet. A krab’s weakness is that it is not only slow, but clumsy, and not as bright as the other monsters that populate Lyoko; it isn’t hard to fool these creatures or lure them into traps. Even Aelita has managed to defeat them on her own from time to time. Still, in a direct fight, they can be deadly. Species Traits Spider Climb (Ex): A krab can scale walls and sheer surfaces as if under a permanent spider climb effect. CR 9; Large Construct; HD 5; hp 30; Init +2; Spd fly 30 ft; Defense 15, touch 15, flat-footed 15 (-1 Dex, +6 natural); BAB +6/+1; Grap +11; ATK +11 melee (1d10+5, slam) or -1 ranged (1d10, laser beam); full attack +11/+6 melee(1d10+5, slam) or -1 ranged X5 (1d10, laser beam); FS 5ft by 5ft; Reach 5ft; SQ Construct traits, spider climb; AL XANA; SV Fort +3, Ref +1, Will +1; Str 20, Dex 8, Con –, Int 8, Wis 8, Cha 14. Skills: Hide +9, Jump +11, Listen + 9, Spot +9 Feats: Improved Bull Rush, Power Attack, Sunder Coming up next – the mighty mega-tanks, and the dreaded guardians. After that – a surprise… |
| marcoasalazarm02-16-05, 09:30 PM | Just bumping here to place this thread where it should be-up front. BTW, man. I really have to thank you for the stats and everything: i've ran a few advetures using the characters and the monsters (not all of them having to do with Lyoko, though), and I've managed to convert a friend of mine about the series. Thanks. |
| Brian.C02-16-05, 09:33 PM | I know, and I'm sorry I've been neglectful. Soon, I'll continue this thread, within a week. - Brian |
| marcoasalazarm02-20-05, 06:49 PM | Just for the sake of mentioning: I mentioned this thread here: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=5491789#post5491789 Just because THIS is the campaign I'm using the monsters in (when not in Lyoko). |
| Brian.C03-02-05, 06:45 PM | Here we go again… two more monsters for this ongoing project. I know it has been a long time coming, but bear with me… MEGA-TANKS Mega-tanks are one of the most powerful nightmares to plague Lyoko. Though their hit points are low, they have a powerful defense, and a weapon that can devastate even the strongest hero if he isn’t careful. At first glance, this abomination looks like a huge round sphere, ten feet in diameter, made of strong iron. When about to attack, its two halves open to reveal a large eye and its firing mechanisms. It gets about by rolling. A mega-tanks weapon is a powerful beam of energy that does 6d10 points of damage; again, it is no specific form of energy. While this isn’t always enough to reduce hit points to zero, it often requires a check to avoid destruction due to massive damage. Species Traits Iron Defense (Ex): Mega-tanks are usually only vulnerable on a round when they decide to attack. When they are not attacking, their Defense is a formidable 24. When they decide to attack, their Defense is only 12, but a would-be fighter then has to face its weapon. Usually, to defeat this creature, a hero must win initiative and inflict enough damage to destroy it in a single blow. Vehicle Movement (Ex): A mega-tank moves more like a vehicle than a creature. It has a top speed of 80 squares at character scale (8 squares at chase scale). In maneuvers as a vehicle, using its Drive score, and it must choose a speed category (alley, street, or highway) at the beginning of each action. Its speed may increase its Defense and penalize skill checks (see the Vehicle Movement and Combat section of the rulebook). Trample (Ex): A mega-tank can bowl over opponents by running over them (see Trample in Chapter Eight of the rulebook), doing 2d6+9 points of damage at alley speed and 4d6+9 points of damage at higher speeds. A successful Reflex save (DC 23) halves the damage. The mega-tank does not take any damage from trampling, due to its protective shell. No Limbs (Ex): A mega-tank has no arms or legs. It cannot grapple nor can it manipulate or throw objects, CR 6; Huge Construct; HD `1; hp 8; Init +4; Spd fly 100 ft (80 squares as vehicle); Defense 12 or 24, touch 10, flat-footed 10 or 24 (+1 Dex, -2 size, +12 natural when not attacking); BAB +1; Grap n/a; ATK +1 ranged (5d10, laser beam); full attack +1 ranged (5d10, laser beam); FS 10ft by 10ft; Reach 5ft; SQ Construct traits, iron defense, vehicle movement, trample, no limbs; AL XANA; SV Fort +0, Ref +1, Will +0; Str 20, Dex 13, Con –, Int 10, Wis 10, Cha 8. Skills: Drive +6, Hide+4, Spot +4 Feats: Vehicle Expert GUARDIANS Guardians are strange creatures that serve XANA for taking hostages. Team Lyoko has only encountered them twice, but the first time, Aelita recognized it, implying perhaps that she encountered one before (and escaped from it). Basically, a guardian resembles a large ball of fire, seamless and smooth. Lights pulsate on the inside. When a guardian is created, it is programmed to hunt down and capture one specific victim, and it cannot attack anyone else. Thus, it attempts to ambush its prey when alone, and hold him or her for as long as it takes XANA to complete his goals. This creature is difficult to fight, especially when you’re the one it’s after – it’s easier to run away. Species Traits Imprison (Su): If a guardian catches up to its victim, it attempts a grapple – if it succeeds, the victim has only one chance to break the grapple with an opposed check. Failure means he is rendered unconscious and absorbed into the creature. The guardian can then reduce the victim’s hit points at a rate of five per round, but never lower than ten total. The victim can’t regain consciousness, and must have outside aid to escape. This is difficult, given the guardian’s formidable damage resistance. However, a guardian has a major weakness – it is easily duped. If it sees another image of the victim it was programmed to capture, it becomes confused, and must make a Will save (DC equals the Intelligence score of whoever produces the image) or self-destruct. The victim regains consciousness in 1d4 rounds, but his lost hit points do not return without aid. CR 4; Large Construct; HD 4; hp 25; Init +5; Spd 20 ft; Defense 12, touch 11, flat-footed 10 (+2 Dex, +1 natural, -1 size); BAB +3; Grap +9; ATK n/a; full attack n/a; FS 5ft by 5ft; Reach 5ft; SQ Construct traits, imprison DR 10/+1; AL XANA; SV Fort +1, Ref +3, Will +2; Str 15, Dex 15, Con –, Int 10, Wis 12, Cha 8. Skills: Hide +8, Move Silently +8, Search +6 Spot +6 Feats: Improved Initiative, Track Coming up next… a surprise! |

| Aquarius Alodar03-03-05, 09:14 AM | Don't you mean Image Problem? That was the name of the episode where the creature first appeared... - Brian Ah. What I was detailing there was my character's preferred strategy for dealing with such things (outside Modern campaigns): judicious use of the Wiz/Sor spell Mirror Image to head off any of the things that might be aimed at him in particular. An improved version of Programmed Image, of course, would be used to similarly cover allies....or a group tactical retreat, if it ever came to that. (Well, the guy does have an 18 Intelligence...) |

| Brian.C06-05-05, 07:27 AM | Hi everyone. Sorry for the hiatus. This thread will be making a comeback in a day or two. I simply had things that preoccupied me. And for fans of the actual show, good news. The second season will be starting in America in September. - Brian C. |
| marcoasalazarm06-05-05, 01:17 PM | You know, that is SO good to hear. I mean, the ending for "False Restart" is a little too open-ended-anything goes, and your write-ups ARE set after it. So, well, I think I'll have to wait a little longer (I'm from Central Am), but it's good to know there's a reason for it. |
| Brian.C06-07-05, 06:53 AM | It’s Brian again. He’s been a thorn in Team Lyoko’s side ever since they met Aelita. It must be truly frustrating to know that you have the power to simply pull the plug on your hated enemy once and for all – but you can’t, for if you do so, a beloved friend would die with him. With that in mind, I finally got around to statting the final major player in this whole D20 Modern setting: XANA The opposing force that Team Lyoko has faced time and time again is an evil known only as XANA. No one knows who built this mad supercomputer – given the lethal nature of this being, it is likely that his creator is no longer alive. His goals aren’t clear – world domination seems the best bet, but more often he seems to more desire to kill humans rather than enslave them. XANA’s true form is a huge cylindrical cabinet about thirty feet tall by ten feet wide with a cubical base, jacketed by golden covering. The team rarely has any reason to visit his chamber, nor do they want to – seeing this monolith is quite intimidating. XANA never speaks, likely lacking the ability to communicate, and it is up for discussion whether or not he can actually hear his foes while they are in the Factory or on Lyoko. He has only communicated with them once, and to do that, he had to create his own avatar – at first this creature resembled Jeremie, but when the disguise was uncovered, it turned evil and demonic. Perhaps it is best that XANA does not speak. Having to listen to taunts and dares would only unnerve the team more than usual. Traits Clearly, XANA’s true form is helpless to fend off a direct attack (helpless to a point – see below). In fact, anyone can simply throw a switch in his chamber that would cut off his power supply, causing him to lose 1d10 hp per round until he was destroyed. However, the team does not dare make this move, as doing so would mean killing Aelita (see the Virus section under her abilities). All combat with XANA is usually done indirectly – thus, the Challenge Rating for him is variable, and depends on the severity of the threat. Tower Activation (Su): All of XANA’s schemes involve the use of the strange towers present on Lyoko. Most of the time, he is dormant, but when he wakes, he usually chooses a tower to implement whatever scheme he has planned. XANA can only activate one tower at a time, and can only have one activated at any one time. Once it is activated, the tower can only be used for the purpose he has designed it for (see Viral Infection, below). If the tower is deactivated (which can only be done by Aelita), XANA returns to a dormant state, and remains such for 1d6 days. Viral Infection (Su): When XANA activates a tower, he can influence events on Earth a great deal. He can manipulate machines, objects, and even creatures to meet his goal. XANA can control and reprogram any computer or machine that is controlled by a computer. Note that this even includes himself – he has been known to infect himself to alter Lyoko in ways that he could not do so otherwise. He can telekinetically control any machine or object with moving parts. In effect, this creates a Construct that he can use as a warrior to fight with. He can do this with something as simple as a suit of armor, or something as complex as the Factory itself. He can control any creature of the Vermin type with an Intelligence of 2 or less. XANA is incredibly intelligent, and is capable of complex plans. Although many of his schemes have been crude (like simply building attack robots), some have been very clever (like distributing a song with a deadly subliminal effect over the internet). XANA cannot: Control intelligent creatures against their wills. Harm intelligent creatures directly. Control the supercalculator or the scanners in the Factory. Lyoko Manipulation (Su): XANA can create storms, alter the terrain, and even create earthquakes on Lyoko. This powerful effect is virtually without limit. However, XANA’s use of it never takes a victim completely by surprise. In game terms, a natural disaster on Lyoko always has a 1d6 round warning before it strikes (unless it’s something that exists in plain sight, like a barrier). It could be an uncanny change in the wind conditions, a rumbling in the ground, or a sudden silence. The nature of this power varies depending on which region a hero is in (sandstorms occur in the Desert, avalanches occur in the Glacier, and so on). Possibly his deadliest tactic is to use earthquakes to attempt to throw victims into the Digital Void (more on this hazard of Lyoko will be covered in a later entry). Fortunately, XANA never seems to use more than one of these maneuvers per endeavor, if he uses them at all. Possibly he lacks the ability to rain down complete fury on a continuous basis. In game terms, XANA can only manipulate Lyoko once per adventure. Consult the Dungeon Master’s Guide for information on weather conditions and similar disasters. Monster Creation (Su): XANA’s monsters do not exist until he uploads them into Lyoko. These beasts appear out of nowhere, and hunt down their foes. XANA can create 25 HD worth of Monsters per day (Mega Tanks have only one HD, but they count as seven for this purpose). Any HD that are not used are wasted. This is not always the case – after Jeremie broke the team out of his virtual prison, XANA created an army of Bloks out of anger. However, such armies are likely the exception and not the rule. Repairable (Ex): Like most Constructs, XANA is repairable. However, unlike most, he can use his own ranks in Repair to repair himself. Note that this is likely only a small example of XANA’s true power. Jeremie is slowly learning that, each time a tower is deactivated and the time warp undoes XANA’s scheme, XANA gets stronger… CR see description; Gargantuan Construct; HD 20; hp 150; Init n/a; Spd 0 ft; Defense 11, touch 1, flat-footed 11 (-5 Dex, -4 size, +20 natural); BAB n/a; Grap n/a; ATK n/a; full attack n/a; FS n/a; Reach n/a; SQ Construct, tower activation, viral infection, Lyoko manipulation, monster creation, repairable; AL evil; SV Fort +1, Ref +0, Will +5; Str 0 (or varied), Dex 0, Con –, Int 25, Wis 12, Cha 10. | marcoasalazarm06-09-05, 11:46 AM | I can just imagine it (I'm referring to the unnerving part): Omniscient, multi-accented voice: "LOOK AT YOU, 'TEAM LYOKO'. RUNNING AND FIGHTING AND HACKING MY PROGRAMS. DON'T YOU KNOW YOU CAN'T WIN AGANIST ME, HUMANS?! THAT I'M A SUPERIOR MACHINE?!" Well, I tried to make it sound like SHODAN's "Look at you..." thing, but I think that XANA would be a little more cliche'd. |
| Brian.C06-15-05, 06:18 PM | Time for a new addition to this project. If PCs are going to be exploring a place, they might as well know about so here’s what I have to give you… BASICS OF LYOKO Lyoko. A strange place. In layman’s terms, it’s a virtual world connected to the same computer system that XANA is a part of. Whether that means it is a part of XANA’s body is unclear, but he has a great deal of control over it. Some might liken Lyoko to a demiplane. If that is the case, using terms in Manual of the Planes, it has normal gravity, normal size, finite size (although its size might be able to increase on XANA’s whim), normal magic, and no dominant elemental or alignment traits. The plane is highly morphic, although one needs training with computers to alter it. Lyoko has four known regions that will be explained more fully below: The Forest, Desert, Mountain, and Glacier regions. Jeremie has been beginning to suspect that a secret fifth region exists that Aelita does not know about. Whatever lurks in this fifth region must be hazards and creatures of great danger for it to remain secret for so long… (It is believed that the fifth region will appear in the second season. Info will be forthcoming soon.) Getting There Getting to Lyoko is no simple task, since it exists inside a computer file. Spells that involve planar travel and other means cannot transport somebody there, because Lyoko is not a physical place. Only by preparing ahead of time can anyone journey there. The scanners at the factory can transport a human to Lyoko, but only if an avatar has been created for him. It is impossible to physically travel there. The process, called virtualization, is not widely understood. When it is done, someone (usually Jeremie, but Aelita can also do it without fail) must supervise. If anyone besides Jeremie or Aelita activates the scanners, they must make a Computer Use check, at DC 20 (they can take 10, but not 20). A failure means an error, which can cause the person(s) being transferred to come through with some sort of handicap. (The GM should decide what an error causes – it could mean a reduction in hp, a penalty to one or more scores, or something different.) Everyone virtualized at the same time receive the same error. A natural 1 on this roll is a critical error, which might lead to a more disastrous result. (Jeremie’s condition in “Frontier” was a critical error, but GMs should not use this as an excuse for an instant kill. Rather, such a situation should provide a detour in the adventure…) Only three people can go to Lyoko in one attempt. If someone other than Jeremie or Aelita tries to send more than that, he must make more than one checks. It is unclear exactly what happens during virtualization – a recipient’s body vanishes, and his virtual form appears on Lyoko. Possibly, the scanners actually transform matter to energy, digitalizing their bodies and converting them into computer programs. Or perhaps they simply keep their bodies stored on some form of storage space, while their essences are transferred to their pre-programmed avatars. Successfully being transferred to Lyoko means that the recipient(s) arrive in whatever region was programmed. Baring errors, they have the full hp of their Lyoko forms (regardless of the condition they were in when the were transferred), and any adverse conditions they had in the real world are usually suppressed. The exception is a condition inflicted by XANA. When an attack left Ulrich with amnesia, he still had amnesia when he appeared on Lyoko. Only Aelita can transport from one region to another, as far as is known (more on how that is done below). Going Back Once you are on Lyoko, traveling back to Earth is much harder. Someone cannot simply go back any time he wants to. There are basically only two ways to go home after traveling to Lyoko. The first way (and preferable way, the team would admit), is by completing a mission. When Aelita inputs Code Lyoko, all humans on Lyoko are transported back to Earth in the exact location they were at the time period where the time warp takes them to. Again, only the members of Team Lyoko have any memory of the events that occur. The second way is by losing all your hit points. Dying on Lyoko isn’t pleasant, but it isn’t permanent (unless the scanners are disabled or destroyed). When someone’s hp reach -10, he into a stream of pixels, at which point he is forced through the scanner. At this point, the victim has all the hit points of his human form, but he must make a Constitution check (DC 20) or pass out for 1d4 minutes. This rule only applies to new PCs – Odd, Ulrich, and Yumi have been doing this for so long, they don’t need to make a check (although it still isn’t pleasant). Aelita is a different story. She can come to Earth at any time by entering a tower and inputting the “Code Earth” program. She doesn’t make a habit of this, certainly not in the middle of a crisis. FEATURES All regions of Lyoko have a few things in common (with the possible exception of the mysterious fifth region). These features are noted below. The Towers: Lyoko is dotted with odd Towers that resemble strange trees, cylindrical in shape, and about two-hundred feet tall. These are both a boon and a hazard to the team – on one hand, XANA needs them to launch his attacks, but on the other, they are relatively safe havens. Although the Towers have no doors, any virtualized being can enter a Tower as a full-round action, at which point an effect similar to levitate slowly moves him or her to the Tower’s summit. Ascending (or descending) the inside of a tower takes three full rounds. On the top of a Tower is a computer terminal that can connect to the internet on Earth, or interface with the supercalculator (although only Aelita can control it without fail). A hero who is computer literate can use a Tower while on Lyoko to gain information or attempt to hack into other systems. The Towers are the only places in Lyoko where anyone is reasonably safe from XANA. He cannot send monster inside to attack them, and he cannot locate them if he doesn’t know they are there. Not that if he does know, he could try to destroy the Tower (a Tower has a Hardness of 20 and can withstand 400 hp of damage before toppling), but XANA prefers not to destroy such potential tools. Each region of Lyoko has a special Tower called a Transport Tower. Aelita uses these towers to travel from one region to another. The trip takes three rounds, and transports her to another region’s Transport Tower. Other creatures cannot use these Towers this way, at least not yet – it is possible Jeremie might correct that by upgrading the program. Furthermore, Aelita uses the Towers for the rare times she travels to Earth. By inputting the Code Earth program into any Tower that XANA does not have control over, she appears in the scanners in her human form after three rounds. This trip is somewhat exhausting (and she hasn’t adjusted to it), and like a human who lost all his hit points on Lyoko, she must make a Constitution check at DC 20 or pass out for 1d4 minutes upon arrival. The Digital Void: In most video games, falling off of a cliff is fatal. On Lyoko, this safety tip is something to always keep in mind. Lyoko is full of pits, cliffs, and wide-open spaces, apparently with no bottoms. These abysses lead to the place’s deadliest feature – the Digital Void. Only Yumi has experienced what this place is like, and the trauma apparently shocked the details out of her. Whatever horrors the Void holds isn’t exactly known, but one thing is know – anyone who falls into the void is permanently virtualized into Lyoko, and lost. Jeremie was able to save Yumi by using a one-shot materialization program – whether he could make a similar program again now that he has successfully materialized Aelita is up for discussion. Aelita’s program may only work on her. The team tries hard to hide their fear of what lurks below – all of them, Aelita included, have narrowly avoided falling to their doom several times. XANA has often tried to use the Void to his advantage, changing the shape of mountains or creating earthquakes to try to dump his foes into it. In game terms, losing a character to the Void might well create a whole role playing situation. Perhaps a program lies hidden in some Tower on Lyoko that can rescue someone trapped in the Void… All heroes must do is find it. Lakes and Rivers: Water is rare on Lyoko, but it does exist, mostly in the Forest and Glacier. Because there is no need to breathe on Lyoko, a hero cannot drown in one of Lyoko’s lakes, and there is no temperature, so nor can he freeze from cold water. Still, with the exception of the Hornets, XANA’s monsters are much better at fighting underwater than most humans are (they take no penalties), so hiding underwater is rarely a solution. Even worse, some lakes have no bottoms, and one taking cover in one risks falling into the Void if he sinks too low. Basically, anyone with enough ranks in Swim can easily transverse a Lyoko lake or river – if a hero’s avatar wears armor, remember that this affords a penalty to Swim checks. Weather: There is no weather on Lyoko unless XANA wants there to be. If he uses that ability, he can create almost any form of weather that he pleases, although he cannot create temperature, which does not exist on Lyoko. Most normal weather effects might be mere annoyances. A sudden rainstorm in the middle of a battle might only annoy heroes. However, XANA is clever – he might use a sandstorm in the Desert or a blizzard in the Glacier in order to hide an incoming force of monsters. Wildlife: This is where Lyoko is mostly lacking. The place has no wildlife to speak of. Aelita is the only living creature who has a home here, and the only other creatures are XANA’s monsters. Although the Forest Region seems to have living plant life, all of them are only constructs. THE REGIONS The four regions of Lyoko are diverse, each with their own wonders and hazards. Lyoko is a beautiful place, but can be deadly… The Forest: This region is a wooded forest, full of undergrowth and tall trees. The artificial sun doesn’t reach the ground in most areas, making the light dim. Pits and cliffs are rare, but the Digital Void is still a hazard in some places. Small caves and tunnels lead from one area to another, sometimes changing at XANA’s will. As has been said, these plants are not living things. No edible fruits grow in the Forest, not that eating is necessary on Lyoko anyway. Combat in the Forest can lead to mixed results. It is easy to take cover amid the trees (or in them), but XANA’s monsters can easily do this too. The Desert: The wide-open space of the Desert Region is pockmarked by boulders and dead trees. Hear and there are plateaus and strange rock formations, as well as cliffs leading to the deadly Void. In the past, XANA has loved to build labyrinths in this region to confuse the heroes. The temperature is not a problem, because there is no real temperature on Lyoko. To a newcomer, he feels room temperature in a place that looks like it should be sweltering hot. Since most of the Desert is wide open and smooth, XANA can often bring out his strongest monsters. Krabs and Mega Tanks often oppose the heroes here. Of course, in a place where maneuverability is not a problem, smart heroes can think of good strategies. The Mountains: In this region, a high Dexterity score can mean all the difference. The breathtaking realm consists of a multitude of floating mountains and plateaus, many of them linked by pathways… Others linked by Mario’s favorite hazard – floating platforms. To transverse this region, one must often hop, skip, and jump over the Void onto rocks that are floating, rotating, spinning, or otherwise moving. As if that weren’t enough, getting through this region is made harder when XANA’s beasts are on your tail. Mega Tanks are rarely found here, but most of the other monsters can scale walls with ease (and Hornets can fly). Safe combat usually means finding a stable and flat surface and hoping that you have the high ground. The Glacier: The icy region of the Glacier resembles an Arctic tundra surrounded by an icy sea – an illusion, for the sea is actually the Void. Though it seems a chilly locale, the place actually has no temperature, so no one need worry about freezing. Amid the icy land, mountains of ice stand among crystal caverns and waterfalls; snowy drifts often impair movement. Climbing or even running can be a problem in the Glacier, for all vertical surfaces are at least “Slightly Slippery”. At times, even the ground has some slickness to it. Members of Team Lyoko have occasionally had to escape from danger by using the ice as a slide, hoping that wherever they end up isn’t worse. Coming up next: I’ll start a series of suggestions for how to get a “Code Lyoko” campaign off the ground. Sit tight, because with a new season starting in September, more Lyoko is sure to be on the way! |
| marcoasalazarm06-15-05, 06:46 PM | You know, man, you should try to make RPGs for a company or something. Stuff like this makes it easy to notice that there are unused resources out there (you know what I mean). |
| Darth Sephiroth06-16-05, 03:28 PM | If you plan on running a game with this online, I'll play. I'm not to experienced with D20 Modern and I've only seen bits and pieces of the show, but it'd be fun |
| Darth Sephiroth07-06-05, 03:52 PM | :bump: More please, MORE! |
| Darth Sephiroth07-24-05, 05:04 PM | Please add more to this, it's been a while |
| Aquarius Alodar08-19-05, 12:11 PM | Please add more to this, it's been a while Apparently, you didn't see this: Sit tight, because with a new season starting in September, more Lyoko is sure to be on the way! The implication being, that this thing will be updated come September. |
| Brian.C08-19-05, 11:32 PM | You wanted more, you got more! But first, a few words for fans of the show. Starting tomorrow, Code Lyoko will once again be showing episodes of Season One weekday afternoons on Miguzi. And of course, new episodes will start in September! What I’m adding now, are some suggestions for start-off adventures to turn your standard D20 Modern Campaign into a Code Lyoko campaign. Not that this assumes that PCs are reasonably experienced, and work for either Department-7 or a similar organization. |
| Brian.C08-19-05, 11:32 PM | FALSE START REDUX The PC party has been fighting the forces of Shadow for a short time, when eventually, Department-7 transfers them to their French division (Or wherever you have placed the school and factory). Unsubstantiated rumors have emerged of strange activity regarding the school and the surrounding area, and Shadow activity is believed to be involved. The PCs arrive in town just as the events of “False Start” are about to begin. Before the PCs even reach Kadac Junior High, they are ambushed by a swarm of Roachsters! If the GM truly wants to challenge the party, he can also throw in a few Hornets and one or two Bloks (thus explaining why only Roachsters ever made it to the school in the actual episode). Without a tremendous amount of bad luck, the heroes should be able to hold their own for a while. They instantly notice that these aren’t typical Shadow creatures. Living machines aren’t usually what Shadow creates, and these things don’t vanish when destroyed. Once the last monster bites the dust, the heroes stop to catch their breath… And suddenly, they are covered by a huge aura of light! Before they know it, their wounds are all healed, and they are reliving the events of two days ago… What the heck happened? |
| Brian.C08-19-05, 11:33 PM | FIRST CONTACT Reporting the situation to their superiors is no help to the PCs. The whole situation seems to have never happened to anyone but them. Has the world gone crazy? With the school as the only plausible lead, the PCs have little choice but to renew what they were doing and investigate the place. Unfortunately, when they do so, a new crisis occurs – they find the school under attack by Large-sized Monstrous Spiders! (Apparently, XANA has found a way to not only control vermin, but to increase their size.) Most of the students flee in terror from the vermin, but strangely, one girl tries to fight them. The girl is Yumi (her teammates are on Lyoko, trying to fix the problem). Yumi puts up a good fight, but before the heroes can do anything, she collapses, suffering the loss of all her Strength. The PCs must intervene, or she becomes spider chow. Again, the monstrous vermin should pose little threat to a group of PCs at mid-level. Once the spiders are cut down, Yumi manages to summon enough strength to whisper a “thank you”. And then, the aura of light surrounds them again, and the heroes are repeating the events of the morning. This is insane… More to come… |
| marcoasalazarm08-20-05, 08:49 PM | "Redux" is my idea, man, but the "First Contact" one is very good, too. Liked it. |
| Darth Sephiroth09-11-05, 02:40 AM | :bump: More please! :ayyyy!: |

Now, what's the reflex save on a space cannon? I'm so evil. But then I'd play Odd in that one, he's the one that goes to Lyoko right? *Needs a list of who goest to Lyoko in what eps* |
| Brian.C09-26-05, 04:36 PM | Hi everyone. I'd like to say, this thread is NOT dead! The new season started, and the first run of new episodes will be over by Friday. Once they are done, I will be back with LOADS of updates for Code Lyoko D20 Modern! What's the Reflex Save to avoid a satellite laser? Very hard... But anyway, I think you'll like what I have coming soon. The new season is loaded with cool stuff, and it makes this new setting even cooler. - Brian.C |

| marcoasalazarm11-08-05, 06:08 PM | Just got from a session. The GM threw a humongous bunch of the Roachsters at us for one of the main battles (although it was not Lyoko-related). It was like something out of "Stargate", the entire team just blazing away at this seemingly endless horde of (and I quote my friend) 'toy bugs' coming down the corridor. And I've just managed to see a new CL episode. They added this funky 'skinny' bug for a new enemy that is strange-four long legs, a more 'animal' look, guns on the ends of them... can't even start to describe it. Hope you had managed to see it. |
| marcoasalazarm11-09-05, 07:14 PM | A World Without Danger. The Situation: An amusment park close to Kadic High has upgraded its computer network with the most high tech. It had managed to almost fully automate its rides and is now considered one of the safest amusement parks all over the world. Too bad that XANA had to go on and hijack the network. Now, the entire park has gone amok, rides losing control and everything. The PCs that were on rides during the takeover must now hang on for dear life (and help others in doing so) while the rest of the group races for the heavily-secure computer core in order to shut it down (and, of course, run to the Supercalculator and Lyoko). |
| Darth Sephiroth11-23-05, 01:06 AM | What are the big bug like red ones that showed up when Xana was using ultrasonics to cause havoc by breaking buildings and roads? |
| SilveryCord11-23-05, 01:26 PM | Well, Darth, there are Krabbes, which are red. Everything else is basically desert-camo-light brown (google has some nice pictures). Now I've got a few cents to put in. XANA's "attack" should be creating a challenge of the right CR, totalling both the Lyoko battle and the Earth battle (So if he uses his powers to create a Horror-movie style ghost like he did in "Is anybody out there?", without considering Return to the Pasts yet, he wouldn't be able to have a strong force in Lyoko). The problem is, in newer episodes it seems XANA likes to have his cake and eat it too. Maybe the CR increases by a certain increment every return? Say it starts with 10. I don't remember the stats for kankrelats right now, but let's just say a pack is CR 5. So then he uses his powers to replicate a spell, (I'm just using that as an example. You can come up with WHATEVER system you like to approximate the XANA ghosts' power) Deep Slumber (puts 10 HD of creatures to sleep). Since it is a XANA attack, we can change it so it lasts until the tower is deactivated. Maybe in addition to the sleep, his targets begin to lose their bodily functions (heart beat, etc.) after a while, slowly fading away, making it more important to deactivate the tower. A 5th level wizard can cast one Deep Slumber a day (again, I'm kind of rusty, so maybe a 5th level wizard != 5 CR? Either way...) so basically, any CR he doesn't use on Lyoko, he can make himself into a wizard of the equivalent level with 18 int, cast the spell, and make it last until the tower is deactivated. Kind of long winded, but yeah :/ Also, handling the fifth region and Scipizoa is going to be very interesting. (Personally, I think the XANA attack = spells thing = very cool :weep: ) Edit: I looked back at the Roachsters, and they're each CR 2. Kind of throws off my example :/ But if we but the CR at 20, now we're cooking. 10 CR for a pack of Roachsters, and 10 CR for an obstacle in the real world (Revising my statement about the wizard thing, if he can only cast one spell, kind of useless, and then there is the whole this-is-d20-and-not-DnD thing >_<) |
| marcoasalazarm11-23-05, 06:34 PM | Well, that's sort of a good system. I mean, I'm a little lacking in Lyoko-watching for the moment but I did saw the episode where they ended up doing the "Groundhog Day" routine. Now the PCs are definitely going to have it cut out for them (and the credits part sorts of looks like a clue thingy. Maybe a Dept. 7 PC could have access to that file w/ the right clearance?) |
| SilveryCord12-09-05, 12:44 PM | The weirdest part about this system is going to be that battles in the show are completely based off of the speed-of-plot. Sometimes a Megatank, (which supposedly has a strong laser) will hit Yumi 3 times before she's devirtualized, but then some random Hornet will devirtualize Odd in one hit. Then there is the whole Aelita-goes-into-the-tower-right-as-someone's-about-to-die bit... I have a feeling that this is going to be VERY different from the show. And stats for the Marabounta: Marabounta: Attack: 1dYes Save: Don't even bother :) Mwuahahahahahahaaha >:) *PCs try to randomly attack marabounta instead of actually strategizing* P.S. Marc: You should see the episode where XANA makes a ghost that is polymorphic and starts making it kiss people :P It was crazy funny to see all the main characters randomly walking up to someone and kissing them XD |
| Brian.C12-09-05, 12:49 PM | I haven't decided yet weather to do anything with the Marabounta. But have almost all the info I need to start this thread again. So be patient. - Brian |
| marcoasalazarm12-09-05, 07:07 PM | Just knowing you're still working on this thing. BTW, pretty nifty avatar. -Marco. |
| Darth Sephiroth12-11-05, 03:03 AM | Wikipedia Data (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code:_Lyoko) Thought that would be useful |
| marcoasalazarm12-17-05, 07:27 PM | bump. |
| SilveryCord12-28-05, 09:25 AM | Well, our bumps might as well contain some content, suggestions: I noticed something a bit strange about Ulrich's Triplicate. It says he *gains* their hit points, which is true, but it never says he has to spend them to create them. I believe that's how it was in the show, but I'm not sure. It just doesn't seem fair that Yumi, Odd and Aelita can use their abilities "whenever" (within limits of course, like Aelita loses 50 HP, etc etc) but still. I'd make the clones cost 20 apeice (making the total effect cost 40 Hit Points, which I think is pretty fair) Considering that it is only useful in combatting opponents directly, and not very much in combatting whatever trap XANA has set, I think that's a fair price. Then, I think Yumi should be able to take 10 on the attack roll for catching her fan, if she is not in the frey of combat. I think maybe that area needs to be fleshed out a bit, 'cause it's kind of confusing. She's got a +12 range to her attack roll, so she needs to roll an 8. That mean's she's got a 60% chance of catching it (I think I did my math right there >_>), as opposed to almost always catching it in the show. (If I'm reading the passage right) And then there isn't the circle-cannon for bloks, which I guess only appears in season 2, so that's not a huge deal (It doesn't even make sense anyway) Same things with the Krabs' tractor ray or whatever it is. There is some other stuff you have to rewrite for season 2: (XANA can't control intelligent creatures, he can only activate one tower at a time, etc) Well, that's basically all I have, I eagerly await your season 2 stuff. |
| marcoasalazarm12-28-05, 07:16 PM | Funny thing. He DID say something 'bout Sissy being the first person XANA would try to control whenever he got the ability... ... truer words couldn't be better prophetized. And, well, there's the new monsters and the wild guess of what the hell is that memory-draining monster's final objective (besides the pretty obvious one. Why would XANA want Aelita's memory, in any case?) And if the answer's already there... well, I'm sorry for asking. Season 2 only recently started over here (LatAm). EDIT: Maybe this question was answered before, but here goes anyway: Do any of the 'Made Real' XANA Monsters would have an EMP vulnerability? They are robots, after all... but I'm just guessing. Maybe they're so crudely made, the thing doesn't works. Like I said, had to ask. EDIT2: Found the place where (apparently) they decided that the series takes plae: Boulougne-Billancourt, France. Gonna search for maprs on it for the "Redux" adventure. |
| ty9705812-31-05, 04:50 PM | Well Marco, so long as I have at least one fan, I'll continue this project then. - Brian Well you have another fan Brian. Keep on going i'm reading the stuff and i like what i see. |
| Darth Sephiroth12-31-05, 05:05 PM | Brian, please put this into a PDF for use, its great stuff. |
| Brian.C12-31-05, 05:09 PM | What's a PDF? And seriously folks, now that I have a new laptop and can write at work, this thread will be revived soon, with new info on a Lyoko campaign. Coming up shortly, info on how to update the characters. - Brian |
| marcoasalazarm12-31-05, 05:15 PM | They mean to convert this thing to Adobe Acrobat-readable stuff. Dunno. Maybe someone here would be kind to do it? In any case, it's good to hear from ya again, man. Happy New Year, and good witing in the future! |
| Darth Sephiroth01-16-06, 05:36 PM | I used to be able to convert files to PDF, but the program I had for that was on my laptop which basically self destructed... |
| marcoasalazarm01-28-06, 02:56 PM | Been a billion years since I posted something here (and I'm truly, truly sorry for that), but I was extremely busy. Hopefulyl, you're still working on this. Well, here goes. This is the 'Introduction to Lyoko' adventure I made for my setting (which is using as ton of things-hope you don't mind me borrowing the Lyoko rules for its specific 'section' of the world). LE PROJET “LYOKOFANS”. -LOCATION: France (Boulougne-Billancourt District). -SITUATION: The Internet has changed in brutal ways due to the CLULESS Virus’ intervention. Once, there was nothing going thru the phone lines other than zeroes, ones, and the programs that were influenced by them. Now there’s an entire different plane there, with its own ecosystem and demography, which is also influenced by those zeroes and ones. One of the biggest threats on the Net-at least on the area of Northern France-is the rogue computer system known as ‘X.A.N.A.’. It is silent, patient, cunning… and adaptable. It knows that it, its enemies and its domains were nothing but cartoon creations. And it is angry beyond belief. Somehow, it has managed to modify a sample of the CLULESS Virus for its own motives, infecting the net site of a Code Lyoko fangroup, ‘Le Projet “Lyokofans”’. The modified CLULESS will zap any member of the Project that logs into the site to the Lyoko Sector-no powers, no des-virtualization, no extra lives-it has zapped a few already. The PCs are the only thing standing between them and a permanent ‘game over’. -HOOKS: The PCs could be part of the local F-SWTI, a member of “Lyokofans” that is puzzled at the vanishing of fellow members, or even Fictions from the CL-verses that have detected activity from XANA and decide to investigate. -DEVELOPMENT: F-SWTI PCs will have to narrow down the reason behind the disappearances (all of the people missing are “Lyokofans” members, disappeared from their rooms, school computer rooms and an internet café. Witnesses at the café will say that all PCs had the XANA ‘eye’ symbol when it happened). The other two will have the jobs cut out for them-they’ll have to find a way to reverse it. Once they discover the connection, they’ll have to reverse the damage done by XANA-as easy (for the Fictions) as going into Lyoko and resetting the system. This will completely destroy XANA’s copy of the CLULESS Virus-and, hopefully, it won’t try to pull this stunt again. F-SWTI is short for 'Fiction-Special Weapons, Tactics and Investigation', the setting's 'Department-7'. Think Special Unit 2-meets-Eddie Valiant. There's also a small network of Scanners (the result of the (alleged) government project that first created the Super-Calculator and scanners (had to Wiki that detail)). They are located in: -Boulougne-Villiancourt (the 'main' ones), -Denver, Colorado, -Seattle, Washington, -Canberra, Australia, -Bruselles, France, -Crouch's End, London, England. |
| SilveryCord01-29-06, 09:28 AM | One of the problems I've been having as I'm rewatching the first season is the episode "Image Problem". XANA doesn't seem to ever create polymorphs, or even "morphs" of any kind til towards the end of season 2... but he does one easily of Yumi in an early on episode? Considering that every episode/Return to the Past his qubits double, so he gets smarter and stronger, he'd be WAY stronger towards the end of season 2 when he was in the middle of season 1. I imagine that the french episodes elaborate on this more. Maybe the guardian has a scipazoa-like power, but instead of taking genetic information and such he just makes copies? Then XANA could use that info to create a genetic clone, I guess. Personally, I don't like the episode because everyone is kind of stupid in it. "Yeah, she kind of screamed just before the return to the past. Now she says nothing happened. And she's acting incredibly strange.... HEY! Let's leave her with Jeremy and the scanners so that we'll die if our Life Points go to 0!!!", I mean, put 2 and 2 together... Anyone else have ideas? |
| marcoasalazarm02-12-06, 07:12 PM | Bump. Just keeping it here. |
| Leress02-23-06, 07:40 PM | :bump: bumpy bump bump |
| SilveryCord02-26-06, 09:08 AM | I thought of a good idea for an episode. Not so sure of a campaign, though. The Two Towers The school heads on a field trip to the planetarium. Odd and Ulrich mess around a bit, and go off somewhere else to pull a prank on Sissy. One of the tour guides encourages the kids to look through a telescope, and Jeremy and Aelita do so. Jeremy is surprised the find a giant meteor heading straight towards earth! Upon hearing this, the tour guide confirms it, and they alert a news station. Other astronomers around the world see the meteor too... It looks like the end of the world, and there is chaos, but Jeremy has a good idea what's happening. It looks like XANA has launched an attack. He calls Yumi, and tells her to meet him at the factory. He can't find Ulrich and Odd, though, because their cell phones are off. He leaves a text message with the words, "XANA sos". Yumi and Jeremy, and Aelita meet at the factory. Jeremy activates a tower nearby the activated one to slow down the meteor. (How he does so is up to you. My idea was that he'd send a ghost into the sun to send out small solar flares to push the meteor back. ) There is only one path between Jeremy's tower and XANA's, and it's filled with monsters. Yumi and Aelita defend the tower, which XANA's monsters don't seem to be interested in. They all line up in a semi-impenetrable fighting position. Yumi battling them alone would be suicide. In the mean time, XANA is trying to take over Jeremy's tower. (Yumi has to isolate it) Ulrich and Odd get the message, and have to go through raving crowds to get to the factory. Jeremy calculates how long they have to be about 20 minutes (Assuming XANA takes over his tower successfully). If XANA fails to take the second tower, (Either via a monster like a megatank deactivating it, like the one episode where Franz Hopper's tower got deactivated by said monster, or by Yumi not being able to isolate it), they have about 40 minutes. Another thought I had was that Jeremy's ghost was fighting DIRECTLY with XANA's at the meteor. Then, if XANA takes over Jeremy's tower, they've only got 10 minutes, because the meteor goes twice as fast. |
| Vadin02-26-06, 02:37 PM | Wait...what's XANA got to do with the meteor at all? |

| marcoasalazarm05-12-06, 03:46 PM | I've been working my butt off for the while being, and so have been very much depraved from watching CL, but I think I have some (crude) stats for the Lyoko vehicles lying around. You'll just have to give me a while to find them, but I WILL post them. |
| zhaleskra05-27-06, 09:34 AM | I came across this thread by a Google search to see if anyone had translated Code Lyoko to any traditional RPG. From what I've seen, I like most of it. Of d20 System products, d20 Modern is one I like, and I even tried to use it to convert Aeon Flux to d20, only to discover that BESM d20 worked better for my purposes due to both "fast & loose" rules and keeping the number of required books down. I also understand the angle of using d20 Modern for Code Lyoko, after all, it is supposed to take place "now". Additionally, I pondered what BESM d20 Classes the characters would have, and I got the impression that the Student class had a minimum age requirement of 14 (high school), and had to conclude that under that system they'd all belong to "the class that's not a class": Adventurer, since the students are all (physically) 13 and under. |

| Brian.C07-22-06, 10:42 PM | Announcement to everyone: I'm back! Starting in a few days, I'm going to start from the beginning, and update the characters with Season 2 stats. Hopefully, Season 3 will not start before I am done! I have every episode on tape, and it is easy for me to do this now that I've fully set up my laptop. The first of the new Code Lyoko RPG entries will be up by Wednesday at the latest. And I'll be adding a few new surprises as well that are not even in the show, for those who would want an expanded campaign. It's all coming soon. |

In this pixel world, everything is bits and bytes, We must have the strength to put up a valiant fight. The time is unknown… It may last throughout our lives… Here we are, going far, To save all that we love. If we give what we've got, we will make it through Here we are, like a star, Shining bright on your world… Today… Make evil go away! We took the oath to provide the maximum, Give all to the fight, There'll be victory in the end… Here we are, going far, To save all that we love. If we give what we've got, we will make it through Here we are, like a star, Shining bright on your world… Today… Make evil go away! Code Lyoko, we will stand alone, Code Lyoko, be there when you call, Code Lyoko, we will stand real tall, Code Lyoko, stronger after all… Running A Lyoko Adventure Welcome to the beginning of the new and improved Code Lyoko D20! First, the basics, modified from the original. In a Lyoko RPG, PCs can actually portray Ulrich, Odd, and Yumi – Aelita is also a good choice for adventures that take place in the second season. But as we know, creating your own characters is more fun. With XANA’s attacks growing stronger all the time, Team Lyoko will need all the help they can get. A PC also has a 1d8 Natural bonus to Defense and Initiative while on Lyoko (computer avatars are tougher). A PC does not have to spend money on weapons or armor (unless he wants to own them in the real world), but once he chooses them, he cannot change them unless he spends 500 XP per level to reprogram his Lyoko avatar, at which point he loses any former weapons. (Yumi did so at some point between season one and two.) A PC should choose one supernatural ability that he can use while on Lyoko. This ability can imitate pretty much any spell, but must be limited to once per encounter, or have some sort of drawback attached (use the statistics I will provide for examples). After he gains five levels after first using a Lyoko form, he can add a second one. After earning five more, he can add a third. Note that XANA has tried to sabotage the scanners several times, so this may not always be the case… (This is also not the case for a PC who portrays Aelita. She would die for real if she died on Lyoko.) XANA’s attacks have changed and evolved over time. During the first season, he attempted to create all manner of disasters in the real world, usually aimed at killing his enemies in their true bodies or simply destroy as much as he could. In the second season, he sought to steal information hidden in Aelita’s memories. He actually succeeded, and managed to get free of his link to Lyoko. What his future schemes will be like is anybody’s guess. How it works on Lyoko usually consists of two steps, protecting Aelita from XANA’s minions, and getting her to the activated tower. (In the first season, they might have to find her first.) Once she is there, she is able to halt the attack and undo XANA’s influence. If too much damage has already been done, it becomes necessary to enact a powerful time warping effect, which reverses time, undoing the damage, and leaving everyone except the Team blissfully unaware of what had happened. In the first season, this was done all the time. However, it is now only used if absolutely necessary, because the Team realized that every jump to the past made XANA more powerful. With that out of the way, we get to our first special guest… |
| Brian.C07-26-06, 10:02 PM | JEREMIE BELPOISE Male Human Smart Hero 10/Dedicated Hero 4 CR 10; Medium Humanoid (human); HD 10d6+10, 4d6 +4; hp 76; MAS 12; Init +1; Spd 30 ft; Defense 17, touch 17, flat-footed 16 (+1 Dex, +6 class); BAB +5; Grap +5; Atk +5 melee (1d3 nonlethal, unarmed strike); Full ATK +5 melee (1d3 nonlethal, unarmed strike); AL Team Lyoko, good; SV Fort +6, Ref +6, Will +13; Str 10, Dex 14, Con 12, Int 20, Wis 18, Cha 16. Note: Jeremie does have a Lyoko form, but he rarely uses it. He finds going there unpleasant and disorienting. Thus, any powers and increases in his abilities that he has are unknown. (Ulrich has remarked that on Lyoko, Jeremie looks “ridiculous”. Skills: Computer Use +33, Craft (electronic) +20, Craft (mechanical) +20, Disable Device +14, Forgery +20, Investigate +20, Listen + 13, Knowledge (behavioral sciences) +12, Knowledge (current events) + 10, Knowledge (earth and life sciences) +9, Knowledge (history) +13, Knowledge (mathematics) +20, Knowledge (physical sciences) + 20, Knowledge (tactics) +20, Knowledge (technology) +30, Knowledge (theology and philosophy) + 13, Knowledge (XANA and Lyoko) +18, Sense Motive + 11, Repair +30, Research +20, Search +20. All bonuses Jeremie gets from his feats and Talents have already been factored in. Feats: Alertness, Attentive, Builder, Cautious, Educated (x3), Gearhead, Iron Will, Jack of All Trades, Meticulous, Simple Weapon Proficiency, Studious. Talents (Smart): Savant (Computer Use, Knowledge [Technology], Repair], Plan, Trick. Talents (Dedicated): Skill Emphasis (Computer Use), Faith Anti-XANA (Ex): Being an expert hacker, Jeremie knows that XANA could easily poke his nose into his business, so he is prepared. (Jeremie backs up anything important on a special file on the supercalculator itself, which only he can access.) Profile: Smarter than most adults Jeremie is a noncombative part of Team Lyoko, but in many ways, he is the most vital. He is the one who keeps tabs on the team during a crisis, lending them support and keeping them updated on every crisis. As a leader, he knows that a great deal of the burden of the responsibility put upon the Team has fallen upon his head. If Jeremie has one major vice, it is pride. He seldom likes to admit he was wrong, even in the instances when he has made mistakes. He also tends to be obsessive at times. His quest to materialize Aelita led him to trouble on more than one occasion, and caused him many sleepless nights. Often times, his teammates have to take him down a peg to remind him that he isn’t omniscient. Jeremie has recently learned painfully that, as smart as he is, there are aspects of science that are too much for even him. Upon finding Franz Hopper’s journal, he slowly started to decode it, and used the scientist’s notes to find ways to aid the Team and strike at XANA. But Hopper’s research was far too advanced, and Jeremie failed each time, often with results that almost led to disaster. Fortunately, Jeremie has always been able to figure out ways to undo what he has done – but he now knows that the best way to avert a disaster is not to start one. Eventually, Jeremie succeeded in materializing Aelita, and it seemed victory was within grasp. While working on the anti-virus, Jeremie made a new breakthrough. He invented a new program that could detect activated Towers more easily than Aelita ever could. Thus, Aelita could live in the real world permanently while a cure was being developed. That, of course, led to a turnaround in the whole system. XANA began coordinating his attacks to capture Aelita instead of kill her, in an attempt to steal her memories for unknown reasons. The team discovered a journal belonging to a mysterious scientist named Franz Hopper, someone whom XANA did not want them to contact. Contact them he did, but it was all in vain. When Jeremie finally found the key to releasing Aelita, XANA got what he wanted from her, and freed himself from Lyoko. Only Hopper himself kept Aelita from dying. Jeremie will not give up. As a scientist to core, he believes in several scientific axioms, including the one that says that nothing can ever be truly immortal. He knows that XANA can be defeated, and he will find a way. He has the support of his team behind him, and that of Franz Hopper too, wherever he may be. He has faith that the war will be won. |

Note: Stats in normal writing are for Odd in the real world – starts in bold parenthesis are for his Lyoko form. Feats: Acrobatic, Agile Riposte, Combat Expertise, Defensive Martial Arts, Dodge, Elusive Target, Exotic Weapon Proficiency (laser arrow), Improved Trip, Improved Two Weapon Fighting, Lightning Reflexes, Mobility, Point Blank Shot, Spring Attack, Two Weapon Fighting. Talents (Charismatic): Charm, Dazzle, Fast Talk, Taunt Talents (Fast): Evasion, Defensive Roll, Improved Increased Speed, Increased Speed. Treetopper: In the Forest Region, Odd can climb and brachiate over the trees like a chimpanzee. He can rush from one location to another by leaping from trees to branches. If this maneuver is successful, Odd can reach his destination in half the time. He must make both a Climb check and a Jump check three times to succeed. The DC class is 20 if he is safe from enemies, or 25 if he is under attack. Failure if he is safe means simply that he must land. Failure if under attack means he falls, taking 4d6 points of damage (and having to deal with whatever monsters are attacking him. If he succeeds, he arrives at his destination in half the time it would normally take (but he still might have to deal with the monsters.) Shield: On Lyoko, Odd can create a shield made of force on his wrist. If he does this and takes a total defense action, he can automatically avoid five attacks before the shield is destroyed. Creating the shield once is free. Creating it a second time costs him five hp. A third time costs him ten hp, and so on. Odd’s Overboard: Odd’s vehicle on Lyoko is a flying skateboard called an Overboard. This vehicle needs no special skill to use, but a user must make a Dexterity check at DC 20 to master it. Both Odd and Aelita have used it so often, they no longer need to make a check. Odd can skim along the ground, over rifts, up slopes, and over water at a top speed of 370. He can also take to the air, flying at the same top speed. The Overboard has a hardness of 5, and 18 hp. Odd has been known to use the Overboard as a weapon. If he charges it into an opponent, he must take a -8 penalty to his attack roll, but it does 2d10 points of damage. It also destroys the board, and likely causes him to wipe out. If the board is destroyed, Jeremie can reprogram it in 2d6 minutes. Possessions: Cellphone, bass guitar, manual guitar. (On Lyoko) Supply of laser arrows, Overboard. He can even laugh at his foes when he is hurt. He doesn’t do too well in his classes, as he doesn’t take them seriously (except Italian – in this he is even better than Jeremie). Odd has not been very lucky in love. He has dated every girl in his grade, but no relationship has ever lasted. When Aelita moved into the school, Odd created the façade that she was his cousin from Canada. This fiction has been believed so far. Odd may secretly have a small crush on Aelita, but if so, he doesn’t show it, out of loyalty to Jeremie. After XANA’s escape, Odd accepted the new challenge. He likely will continue to smile in the face of adversity, no matter what XANA throws at them. |
| dragonstalker42708-14-06, 01:57 AM | your stuff is great!, unfortunately i don't have cable and as such can only watch the show when I am on vacation at relatives homes but I still think the show is great. also unfortanutely I didn't even know there was a season two until this thread so I can't help you with anything much but will stay a faithful reader. |
| marcoasalazarm09-23-06, 02:07 PM | Just a couple of things here: one is, well, that I'm sorry for not posting anything up until now concerning this '2.0', and I hope that Brian posts some more things (sorry, man). two is, I've been working on a 'Possessed by XANA' Template. For now, here's what I think: -Boost Str and Con by +2 (or +4. They have a pretty large amount of strength). -Once per day, they can phase thru things. -Unarmed attacks obtain extra electric damage (say, 1d4? d6?). Thrice per day, they can fire electricity at will (2d6, range 50 feet?). -Once per day, they can grasp onto objects like the 'Spider Climb' spell. That's my two cents. |
| Brian.C01-31-07, 11:25 AM | Hi. I want everyone to know, that starting tonight, I will get to working on this project again. I have nothing but time now, due to my transfer, and I'm sorry to have neglected this. Expect Ulrich's new stats to be up very soon. - Brian |
| TFVanguard01-31-07, 02:59 PM | Uh... 20th level for these guys? Seriously.. these kids can take and shrug off rocket-launchers? Way, way, way too high for stats and level here. They're not ever shown to be that god-like in ability in the show. The avatar forms are a different matter, of course, but their physical abilities in Lyoko are completely different anyway. |
| Brian.C01-31-07, 10:17 PM | Sorry. I should have mentioned earlier: The current stats are for Lyoko forms. DMs are free to reduce the heroes in level as much as he sees fit for real-world forms. You might also rule that in the real world, all combat-related skills and feats are either limited, or nonexistant. In the real world, these kids do fight on occasion, but not nearly as much - they use other means to solve problems. They must retain some combat skills, due to XANA's ability to possess humans, but they aren't as good. I personally suggest cutting all levels and vital stats except ability scores in half for real-world forms, but keeping all feats. The kids still have them, they just aren't as good with them. Now then... Time for the next character. The two-part special that began Season Three gave us some insight on the origins of these characters. Thus, we know a little more about their motivations and what makes them tick, in addition to their new abilities. Keep one thing in mind: Whenever the term “on Lyoko” is mentioned, it actually means “on Lyoko or its equivalent.” XANA’s recent activities apparently destroyed Lyoko in order to prevent the team from having a way to stop his plans, whatever they may be. But hope exists – a message from XANA’s archenemy Franz Hopper suggests that Lyoko might be restorable, or a new realm on the internet can be entered to combat XANA. So without further ado, the new info on the team’s darker aspect… ULRICH STERN Male Strong Hero 9/Fast Hero 7 CR 12; Medium-Sized Humanoid (human); HD 9d8+27 plus 7d8+21; hp 97 (109); Init +6 (+12); Speed 30 ft; Defense 24, touch 24, flat footed 24 (+3 Dex, +11 class) (30, touch 26, flat footed 30 [+5 Dex, +4 natural, +11 class]); BAB +14/+4; Grap +17 (+19); Atk +17/+5 melee (1d4+3+2 [x2], unarmed strikes) (+19/+7 melee [2d6+5+2, katana]); SQ triplicate, triangulate, super-sprint; AL Team Lyoko, good; Fort +8 (+10), Ref + 8 (+10), Will +4, AP 8, Str 16 (20), Dex 16 (20), Con 16 (20)[B]; Int 14, Wis 15, Cha 17. [B]Skills: Balance +15 (+17), Climb +13 (+15), Drive +13 (+15) Escape Artist +11 (+13), Hide +11 (+13), Intimidate +5, Jump +18 (+20), Move Silently +11 (+13), Spot +5, Swim +13 (+15), Tumble +16 (+17). Note: All stats in normal prints apply to Ulrich’s true form. Those in bold parenthesis, apply to his Lyoko form. Also note that Ulrich’s Drive Skill does not only apply to his Lyoko form. He could drive easily on Earth, but he only does in an emergency, as he doesn’t have a license. Feats: Cleave, Combat Expertise, Combat Martial Arts, Combat Throw, Defensive Martial Arts, Dodge, Elusive Target, Exotic Melee Weapon Proficiency (katana), Great Cleave, Improved Bull Rush, Improved Initiative, Power Attack, Mobility. Talents (Strong): Ignore Hardness, Improved Ignore Hardness, Melee Smash, Improved Melee Smash, Advanced Melee Smash. Talents (Fast): Evasion, Uncanny Dodge 1, Defensive Roll, Opportunist. Triplicate (Su): While on Lyoko, Ulrich has the ability to create two clones of himself. This takes a standard action, and Ulrich must willingly take one point of Constitution damage whenever he does so. Ulrich can use this ability as many times as he desires, as long as he has Constitution left, but he cannot use it if he has any clones currently active. Lost Constitution does not return until he returns to the real world. Triangulate (Su): Once per mission, Ulrich can use a special version of Triplicate called Triangulate. He must willingly take two points of Constitution damage to use this ability. When he uses this power, he and the two clones move as if under the influence of a haste spell for as long as the clones remain. Clones created in this fashion have an even shorter lifespan than normal, lasting only one minute. Otherwise, this power is identical to Triplicate. Super-Sprint (Su): On Lyoko, Ulrich can run at great speeds for short periods, in effect being able to run at three times his normal rate. This causes him no ill effects if he ceases after two rounds or less. However, if he continues for three rounds or more, then when he does stop, he is fatigued. Fatigue lasts for two rounds for each round that the sprint lasted beyond the second. While in this sprint, Ulrich also gains the ability to charge an enemy without provoking an attack of opportunity, unless the opponent is even faster than he is at this increased speed. Ulrich’s Overbike: On Lyoko, Ulrich utilizes a vehicle called an Overbike, a small, one-wheeled motorcycle. Anyone using the Overbike must make a Drive check at DC 20 to master it. Ulrich and Aelita have driven it so often, they no longer need to make this check. Ulrich can take one passenger on this vehicle, but only if the passenger does nothing but hold on to him tightly. The Overbike is capable of great speed, able to reach All-Out Speed if Ulrich so chooses. He is accustomed to fighting while driving; the Overbike should be considered a Medium-Size vehicle for all practical purposes. Refer to the Combat section of the rulebook for information on combat while driving. By shifting gears, Ulrich can take to the air in the Overbike, flying at a top speed of 370. He has been known to leap from his bike to ambush the enemy below; if he does so, the Overbike’s programming lands it on the nearest available surface. The Overbike has a Hardness of 10 and 30 hp. If it is destroyed, Jeremie can reprogram it in 2d6 minutes. Possessions: Cellphone, various sports equipment. (On Lyoko) katana, Overbike. The source of Ulrich’s angst was recently made clear. His father is very domineering, and perhaps expects too much from him. His efforts to please his dad over the years without success has left him bitter, and looking for an outlet of sorts. Ulrich shares an ambiguous relationship with his teammate Yumi (who incidentally taught him martial arts). The two clearly love each other, but neither is willing to admit it to anyone, even each other. It’s a poorly kept secret – even Aelita, naïve as she is, knows about it. Most recently, Yumi has tried to quash any attempts at making the relationship serious, by giving the dreaded “friends condition.” Where it ultimately leads remains to be seen. History: Ulrich entered Kadac at the same time that Jeremie – who, at the time, was only an acquaintance – turned on the supercomputer that awakened Aelita and XANA. Ulrich was being bothered by Odd’s dog, Kiwi, and when Jeremie said he needed a test subject for something, Ulrich figured it might be a way to get rid of the pest. Hardly knowing what the future would hold, he grabbed Kiwi and followed Jeremie to the factory, not knowing that Odd and Sissy were following. Odd quickly went to get his dog out of harm’s way, and as a result, he was sent to Lyoko instead. Before he knew it, he was beset by XANA’s monsters, without a clue about how to fight back. Ulrich at that point volunteered to go to Lyoko as well, and offered Sissy the same chance – however, she chickened out. Both Odd and Ulrich’s Lyoko forms were not preplanned or designed. Jeremie’s theory was that the scanners design the virtual bodies from the owners’ dreams and fantasies. Ulrich’s dark Samurai theme reflected strength, skill, and integrity, possibly representing a side of him that he kept hidden for a long time. Whatever the case, Ulrich’s first battle on Lyoko was with Odd at his side, and the two have been reluctant partners since then. Both at and away from Lyoko, Ulrich’s life has been turbulent. Some would say that he has a problem even worse than XANA at times – the principal’s daughter, Sissy. Because Sissy refused to be virtualized, her memory of her chance faded the first time the future was reset, and she likely will never have another chance. Most recently, Ulrich worked with his competition in most areas, including Yumi’s heart – William. This older student seemed to be his rival everywhere he turned, but also helped frequently whenever XANA’s attacks spilled into Earth. Finally, the four members of the Team decided to let William join them. It ended horribly, however. William’s mind was taken over by the schipizoa, and he personally delivered the blow that destroyed what remained of Lyoko. The regular team believes William to be dead – unbeknownst to them, he survives, but as XANA’s brainwashed slave. Certainly, a confrontation between Ulrich and William is a possibility in the future. Comments and criticisms are welcome. Coming next, the fourth member of the team, a geisha with deadly flying blades. |
| zeone300002-11-07, 05:57 PM | I think see a cobweb, is that spider? Like the idea, but does the show still come on? I lost my cable when I came to college, so i don't know. Even if they don't there is always torrents. :D Another, idea for a campaign is to make it happen in the future, after the old crew goes to college or something. You can have them show up and whoop XANA if need be (PCs getting butt kicked). Thought I keep the thread alive and give my 2 cents. |
| Brian.C02-11-07, 06:01 PM | Season Three ended on a cliffhanger, so Season Four is almost a certainty. When it will air, I do not know. Yeah, that is possible, but first we have to know what happens in Season Four. Lyoko is presumed to be destroyed, and we do not know how the team is going to combat XANA now. They last scene of the last show ended with them getting a message from Franz Hopper - presumably, he will help them in some way. And the stats for Yumi will appear sometime this week. I promise. |
| marcoasalazarm02-11-07, 06:13 PM | Here's something I remember from a (now defunct) CL future campaign idea (it was for BESM, and was in the GoO site): a Portable Scanner, that looked (when inactive) like a base with XANA's eye. When active, it deployed the top of the base several feet upwards thru two very thin hydraulic arms, which then deployed a magnetic bottle. It was into this bottle that the people that desired to be Scanned had to step in, and then it went as any other scan. |
| Brian.C02-13-07, 09:52 AM | No more procrastinating. So now here’s new information on the third member of team Lyoko, a warrior-maiden who packs a pair of steel fans… YUMI ISHIYAMA Female human Tough Hero 7/Fast Hero 7/Smart Hero 2 CR 16; Medium-Sized Humanoid (human); HD 7d10+28 plus 7d8+28 plus 2d6+8; hp 129 (141); MAS 18 (20); Init +6 (+10); Speed 30 ft; Defense 24, touch 24, flat footed 24 (+3 Dex, +11 class) (29, touch 25, flat footed 29 [+4 Dex, +4 natural, +11 class]); BAB +8; Grap +11 (+12); Atk +13 melee (1d8+3, unarmed strike) (+12 melee [1d8+3, steel fan] or +12 ranged [1d8, steel fan]); SQ telekinesis; AL Team Lyoko, good; Fort +9 (+10), Ref + 7 (+8), Will +6; AP 10, Str 18 (20), Dex 17 (19), Con 18 (20)[B]; Int 16, Wis 14, Cha 16. [B]Skills: Balance +15 (+17), Climb +11 (+12), Computer Use +13, Drive + 13 (+14), Escape Artist +15 (+17), Hide +11 (+12), Intimidate +12, Investigate +11, Knowledge (popular culture) + 11, Move Silently +15 (+17), Read/Write Japanese, Search +8 [B](+9), Sleight of Hand +11 (+12), Spot +11, Survival +15, Tumble +11 (+12). Feats: Brawl, Combat Expertise, Combat Martial Arts, Defensive Martial Arts, Dodge, Elusive Target, Exotic Melee Weapon Proficiency (steel fan), Improved Brawl, Improved Bull Rush, Improved Disarm, Improved Initiative, Knockout Punch, Mobility, Two Weapon Fighting. Talents (Tough): Robust, Second Wind, Stamina, Remain Conscious Talents (Fast): Defensive Roll, Evasion, Uncanny Dodge 1, Opportunist Talents (Smart): Savant (Computer Use) Note: All stats in normal prints apply to Yumi’s true form. Those in bold parenthesis apply to her Lyoko form. Also note that Yumi’s Drive Skill does not only apply to his Lyoko form. She could drive easily on Earth, but only has a learner’s permit, and does not do so often. Telekinesis (Su): On Lyoko, Yumi possesses telekinetic powers. She can, at will, use the 5th level mage spell telekinesis, lifting as much weight as if she were a 10th-level mage. The duration, however, lasts as long as she is able, for it comes with a price. She can use this effect safely for five rounds. After that, she begins to take Strength damage at the rate of one point per round, until she either stops the effect or collapses (note that she will often willing give up all her Strength if the need is great enough.) Strength lost in this manner returns at a rate of one point per turn, so long as she does nothing but rest. Recently, Yumi has started practicing the difficult style of using two of these weapons at once. She is not yet an expert at it, but might become one given time. (She only has the basic Two Weapon Fighting Feat). If she throws both fans at once, she must make two separate attack rolls against Defense 25 to catch each of them, and both incur her regular penalty for fighting with two weapons. Yumi’s Overwing: Yumi’s vehicle on Lyoko is an odd device called the Overwing, a sort of cross between a jetski and a hovercraft. Yumi assumes a half-standing, half-crouching position on the odd vehicle to transverse the landscape. Anyone using the Overwing must make a Drive check at DC 20 to master it. Yumi and Aelita have driven it so often, they no longer need to make this check. Yumi can take one passenger on this vehicle, but only if the passenger does nothing but hold on to her tightly. The Overwing is capable of great speed, though not as great as Ulrich’s Overbike, able to reach Highway Speed if Yumi so chooses. She is accustomed to fighting while driving; the Overwing should be considered a Medium-Size vehicle for all practical purposes. In addition, Yumi receives 50% cover from all attacks from the front, due to the shape of the vehicle. Refer to the Combat section of the rulebook for information on combat while driving. By shifting gears, Yumi can take to the air in the Overwing, flying at a top speed of 370. She can leap down to ambush the enemy below; if she does so, the Overwing’s programming lands it on the nearest available surface. The Overbike has a Hardness of 15 and 35 hp. If it is destroyed, Jeremie can reprogram it in 2d6 minutes. Possessions: Cellphone, martial arts equipment, and (on Lyoko) Overwing and two steel fans. Like the others, she thinks nothing of sacrificing herself to protect Aelita (and at one point, she nearly made the ultimate sacrifice). Now that Aelita is able to fight on her own, the role of protector is not as prevalent, but it is still there. History: Yumi Ishiyama was born in Japan, but her parents moved to France when she was an infant. She is a year older than her three friends (and is thus in a higher class), and unlike them, is a day student. Yumi first met Ulrich when the two were the only students for Jim’s martial arts class. Yumi knew more about martial arts than Jim ever would, but she liked to practice. Yumi was at first embarrassed by the slight attraction she felt towards Ulrich when they sparred with each other. Eventually, when Ulrich and Odd prepared to make their second sojourn into Lyoko, Yumi followed Ulrich to tell him to stop bothering her. When she found out what was happening, Ulrich offered her a chance to come with them. Unlike Sissy, Yumi was no coward, and accepted the offer. She soon found herself virtualized, dressed as a Geisha-style warrior with powerful abilities. Jeremie repeated his theory that the scanners created the recipients’ virtual forms based on their dreams and fantasies. Whatever the case, Yumi quickly adjusted, and knew this was only the beginning. It didn’t go well for Yumi in the campaign against XANA. Over the past year, Yumi was wooed by a new student in her grade named William. William was an admitted rebel who didn’t follow authority well. However, whenever XANA attacked Earth, it seemed he was on the forefront helping members of the team that were not on Lyoko. Still, Yumi found it hard to trust him with his attitude, which was much less subtle than Ulrich’s. Eventually, the team unanimously decided to let William on the team. However, it ended in disaster. William fell victim to the schipizoa, and was possessed by XANA. He personally cut down the whole team without mercy, saving Yumi for last. Her last words to him were that it was a mistake to trust him. With Lyoko’s apparent destruction, they now believe him to be dead. Unbeknownst to them, he lives, but as XANA’s slave. Possibly, Yumi will confront him in the future on more equal terms. Coming up next: She’s the last member of the team, but in many ways, she’s also the first. The princess of Lyoko, once human, then an AI program, then human again, without whom there would be no “Code Lyoko.” You know who I mean. - Brian |
| sword_war44405-19-07, 09:11 AM | how much longer till you do one of my favorite William. |
| marcoasalazarm05-22-07, 11:51 AM | Forget William. How long for Aelita? |
| Bladerock05-22-07, 01:38 PM | Who was william? i am rusty on my Lyoko knowledge. I was thinking that maybe running a lyoko game might be better if it isn't directly connected to the show. Problem is... i can't figure out how. |
| IronFistMonkCerberlain05-29-07, 08:03 PM | SPOILER!!! william was the new Lyoko warrior, until XANA took control over him love the show, love ur stuff, angry I dont play D20 modern(or any D20 for that matter) but this might get me into it keep it coming!! |
| IronFistMonkCerberlain05-29-07, 08:06 PM | double post |
| MarkerMage05-30-07, 07:47 AM | I just got done skimming the posts in this topic, and noticed that you mentioned something about not being able to factor in the Lyoko monsters' weakspot. Well, I remember how Zelda D20 solved the problem of how weakspots would work. They would give the creature damage reduction. The creature would also have a weakspot that could be aimed for which would have a size modifier to the AC/defense along with the creatures normal modifiers. Any attack that hits the creature's weakspot successfully would ignore the creature's damage reduction. I hope that helps you. |
| IronFistMonkCerberlain08-14-07, 02:13 AM | HOW COULD THIS THREAD DIE????? IT IS TOO INTERESTING!!! plz come back Brian.C!!!! seriously, this stuff was wicked |
| MagusBlack08-25-07, 03:02 PM | I second that motion! Dont die on us yet, there is much to learn still. |
| SkippyDawg2509-09-07, 05:32 PM | Though I would quite like to see some info on Kids Next Door, I'd rather lend my support for this thread. I remember when I was a weee little tot (a few years ago >_>) and I loved Code Lyoko. Keep up the good work man, you have my support!!! |
| marcoasalazarm01-03-08, 02:49 PM | BUMP. Man, I hope you post new stuff some day. |
