I have no idea what you're talking about. Are you asking a question? |
| Aussiegamer07-01-07, 06:32 PM | TT has posted a pile of "suggestions" on this forum...I am asking about copyright and commenting on that! |
| i_am_some_guy07-02-07, 12:02 PM | TT has posted a pile of "suggestions" on this forum...I am asking about copyright and commenting on that! Why didn't you reply to any of them? You made a post that makes no sense and is commenting on other posts -- it's not obvious what the hell you're talking about. Nothing wrong with coming up with ideas, copyright law doesn't mean you can't invent, it just means you can't profit from another's work; nor through your use of their work prevent them from profitting. |
| Aussiegamer07-02-07, 06:14 PM | um I did reply to a couple of them, but amazingly he did NOT reply to my q's about the stuff. So I did not see the point of continuing down that dead end road. COnsidering he is stating that it is a d20 M book or released by WOTC then my question is valid... The poster seems to be some bot that does not bother to actually reply to a concern. My topic is valid as copyright is improtant even when designing a game. |

(http://www.copyright.gov/title17/) There is nothing wrong with coming up with ideas using any material you want. You can't, say, make SmallVille D20 and then start selling it since you don't have permission from the copyright owner of that work. If you made one for free download even though it's not competing with an existing product and is for free (no profit made) the owners can submit a cease and desist to you if it's being used in a way that they don't like as they own the rights of derivative work. You can talk about wanting to make a smallville D20 and how cool it would be and how it might fit into D20M and so on and so forth... What Is Copyright Copyright is a form of protection provided by the laws of the United States (title 17, U. S. Code) to the authors of “original works of authorship,” including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, and certain other intellectual works. This protection is available to both published and unpublished works. Section 106 of the 1976 Copyright Act generally gives the owner of copyright the exclusive right to do and to authorize others to do the following: To reproduce the work in copies or phonorecords; To prepare derivative works based upon the work; To distribute copies or phonorecords of the work to the public by sale or other transfer of ownership, or by rental, lease, or lending; To perform the work publicly, in the case of literary, musical, dramatic, and choreographic works, pantomimes, and motion pictures and other audiovisual works; To display the work publicly, in the case of literary, musical, dramatic, and choreographic works, pantomimes, and pictorial, graphic, or sculptural works, including the individual images of a motion picture or other audiovisual work; and In the case of sound recordings*, to perform the work publicly by means of a digital audio transmission. In addition, certain authors of works of visual art have the rights of attribution and integrity as described in section 106A of the 1976 Copyright Act. For further information, request Circular 40, Copyright Registration for Works of the Visual Arts. It is illegal for anyone to violate any of the rights provided by the copyright law to the owner of copyright. These rights, however, are not unlimited in scope. Sections 107 through 121 of the 1976 Copyright Act establish limitations on these rights. In some cases, these limitations are specified exemptions from copyright liability. One major limitation is the doctrine of “fair use,” which is given a statutory basis in section 107 of the 1976 Copyright Act. In other instances, the limitation takes the form of a “compulsory license” under which certain limited uses of copyrighted works are permitted upon payment of specified royalties and compliance with statutory conditions. For further information about the limitations of any of these rights, consult the copyright law or write to the Copyright Office. |
| Aussiegamer07-02-07, 08:36 PM | I know that you can come up with ideas, but his style is to put they are being made or released... and when devolping an idea copy right needs to be looked at or its just a waste of time! |

So? He's talking in past tense in some cases, and in future tense in others. Copyright law is not some totalitarian tool that completely removes the rights of people to think, write and explore. It's just a tool to protect people and the profitability of their IP. |
| TraverseTravis07-03-07, 04:50 PM | Aussiegamer, my posts in this forum have described games I wish to see. All the best, Travis |
| Aussiegamer07-03-07, 07:08 PM | maybe then saying it like its an idea would allow others to add to your concept. The way you right it, it sounds like a done deal. PS some ideas are pretty cool. |
