| TFVanguard05-31-07, 10:35 AM | (From the "I want to be Haseo" department...) Chain Blade Weapon Type: Melee Proficiency Group: Exotic (Chain Blade) Damage: 2d6 Slashing Critical: 18-20 / x3 Load: 1 Steam Sphere (30 rounds) Size: Large / 12lb Special: -1 Accuracy Penalty Cost: 300 Gil / Uncommon The Chain Blade, effectively, is a weaponized version of the powered chain saw. The weapon is somewhat similar to a very large sword, but also contains a powered motor in the hilt and palm which drives a serrated chain along the blade’s edge. The result is a powerful and effective cutting weapon, but the additional weight of the motor and blade drive makes it a very awkward type of weapon to wield. Broad Chain Blade Weapon Type: Melee Proficiency Group: Exotic (Chain Blade) Damage: 2d8 Slashing Critical: 18-20 / x3 Load: 1 Steam Sphere (25 rounds) Size: Huge / 24lb Special: -2 Accuracy Penalty Cost: 600 Gil / Rare As above, but a larger and more deadly version of the chain blade. Though capable of greater damage, the blade is even more inaccurate due to its heavy and somewhat awkward design. Great Chain Blade Weapon Type: Melee Proficiency Group: Exotic (Chain Blade) Damage: 2d10 Slashing Critical: 18-20 / x3 Load: 1 Steam Sphere (20 rounds) Size: Huge / 36lb Special: -4 Accuracy Penalty Cost: 1000 Gil / Rare A huge and potentially devastating weapon, the ‘Great Chain Blade’ is as above but of massive size, standing as tall as most people who wield them. Though wildly inaccurate, the effect of lugging a such a devastating melee weapon has a understandably daunting effect on opponents. (Note: A Steam Sphere is roughly equivalent to a gallon of gass or a heavy battery.) |
| nimbusconflict05-31-07, 06:51 PM | ...nice idea. i like the game myself. though he only had one in the anime. perhaps you should do the three weapon set? |
| TFVanguard06-01-07, 11:56 AM | Well, the 'Twin Blades' are just paired daggers or short-swords, so that's pretty much covered. The scythe is.. well.. a scythe. There wasn't really a whole lot left to cover for the 'adept rogue', honestly. |
| nimbusconflict06-01-07, 12:09 PM | but they were both buzz saw weapons as well. |
| TFVanguard06-01-07, 01:44 PM | I can't think of a Scythe or Twin Blade that was. Can you point one out to me? (I'm not doubting you, it's possible that I missed a lot, the weapons tend to blur) Stat wise, though, the scythe would double up for the 'Great Chain Blade'. The twin chain blades would be 2d4 dagger equivalents, I guess. Using them that way would require the appropriate feats, of course. Small Chain Blade Weapon Type: Melee Proficiency Group: Exotic (Chain Blade) Damage: 2d4 Slashing Critical: 19-20 / x3 Load: 1 Steam Sphere (45 rounds) Size: Medium / 6lb Special: -1 Accuracy Penalty Cost: 200 Gil / Uncommon |
| nimbusconflict06-02-07, 01:18 PM | in the anime, he never changed his equipment, all the drawings show him with the basic rwin blades, the broad sword he gets when he does the job extention, and the scythe he receives as his second job extention |
| TFVanguard06-02-07, 02:49 PM | Well, I'm referring to his appearances in GU only, since I don't have ROOTS to pull from. |
| nimbusconflict06-02-07, 03:52 PM | a good series. voices aren't the best though... but since this was in the anime thread, and not the video game thread i made an assumption. sorry ^^; maybe a steam saw template for any type of melee weapon? |
| TFVanguard06-02-07, 11:57 PM | Well, it's not always appropriate. But, going roughly... Add another die to the damage indicated. Increase the critical threshold to 19-20 / x3 for dagger-sized weapons , and 18-20 / x3 for anything larger. Increase weight by at least 50 percent d4 and d6 weapons get -1 accuracy d8 weapons get -2 accuracy d10 weapons get -4 accuracy d12 weapons get -8 accuracy |
| nimbusconflict06-04-07, 04:09 PM | seems like it should work. i wonder if steam punk is considered sci-fi as well.... meh, useless ponderings on my part. ^^ |
| TFVanguard06-24-07, 11:17 AM | seems like it should work. i wonder if steam punk is considered sci-fi as well.... meh, useless ponderings on my part. ^^ Steampunk would be considered science-fantasy these days, since it relies on technology we know doesn't quite work in the way it's promised. Back when what we consider 'steampunk' was first put together, though, it would have been considered 'science-fiction'. :) |
| nimbusconflict06-26-07, 10:25 PM | ....fiction and fantasy are so similar in meaning it shouldn't matter. Secondly, WotC only has a Sci-Fi thread here, not a Sci-Fa |
| ArgulFraster07-11-07, 06:45 PM | Where can I find stats for just a basic chainsaw? |
| nimbusconflict07-12-07, 06:47 PM | I'm sure its available in D-20 Modern |
| TFVanguard07-13-07, 12:18 PM | Fortuntely, the Chainsaw is an SRD weapon from d20 Modern... Chainsaw (Weapon) Type: Exotic Damage: 3d6 Slashing Critical: 20 / x2 Size: Large / 10 lbs Purchase DC: 9 |
| Master_Vega07-13-07, 01:59 PM | There's also a chainsword from the Future Tech supplement, though that's not on the SRD so I can't give away the stats for it. >_> I made a more brutal version for a fellow GM who had a player that wanted one. The rules are made for D20Modern, but here they are: Brutal Chainsword (Melee Weapon) (template) Building Requirements: Weapon base must be a medium or larger slashing weapon. Craft (Mechanical) check: Complex (Purchase DC 16 for spare parts, Craft DC 25 and 24hrs. to create.) (Additional Craft (Electronic) check: Simple [purchase DC 5 for the parts, Craft DC 15 and 1hr to create] if the chainsword is battery powered and not gas powered.) Proficiency feat: Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Brutal Chainsword) Damage: +1 Die size (up to a d12, at which point 1d6 is added to the damage roll), +1 die. Critical: Same as base weapon Damage type: Slashing Range Increment: -- Size: +1 size category medium and smaller weapons, +0 size category of large and larger weapons. Weight: +8lbs. Special: A character with Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Brutal Chainsword), upon successfully dealing damage, can initiate a grapple check at the expenditure of an action point. If the grapple check succeeds, the chainsword automatically deals damage at the beginning of the next round and every round thereafter (provided he or she continues to win the opposed checks.) Removing the chainsword from an opponent is a move action that provokes an attack of opportunity. |
