Following persistant rumors abut the reappearance of different parts, composing an ancient and legendarily valuable artifact, {as well as the consequent divinations by various sages, high priests and the like, all of which confirmed that not only all of its parts yet exist on the face of Clath, but other, far continents and islands are bound to hold other artifacts of the assembled item's kind,} the attention of many powerful sides, operating outside the confines of the common, material world, was attracted to the continent of Clath.

While many of the primes do not realize it, theyr vision clouded by loyal pride, relativism, or other, similarily impractical concepts, the four of you - ot, in some cases, those on whose behalf you currently operate - know that much: If something spanning the entire continent is going on on Clath, then the place to start getting your head into it is the Toprock inn.
Think of it; the nation of Chikriza is Clath's great negotiator, the lighthouse of civilized culture - almost everything passes through it, unless specifically kept from doing so, and sometimes even then. Many say that if the Chirkrizan Councel, along wiht its prominent guilds, were to seek such a goal, they would easily controll and rule the entire continent. A few of the more bitter say they already do.
Every exploited piece of chikrizan land is used for one of two purposes: progress, or diplomacy. The capital, Moslehyll, is unquestionably the most extreme example of this; and it goes without saying, that the Toprock Inn - and not the councel's vale - is Mosleehyll's heart.

The capital is built in the shape of an 8, with the southern part being mostly residential, with the individual burrows surrounding the guildhouses in excentric cyrcles, and the norhtern - an architectural limbo of seemingly uncoordinated housings that serve mostly as embacies... in the widest possible sence of that term. The Toprock, long ago a castle, and now an inn, stands in the middle, where the two sides meet. Two towers of awe-inspiring size sprout from the oposite ends of a great, two-story hall, which in comparison looks flat and insignificant, inspite of its massive size.

Inside the hall, where the four of you find yourselves, and are served by lads and maidens whose speed makes you suspect a magical enhancement, you see the tan shoulders of native gnomes mixed with the black backs of humans, clothed shapes of dwarves, freckled faces of halflings, and even pale figures of elves to such extent, that one could start to ponder whether he is still in a familiar, civilized land, or in some exotic, multi-species heaven from the priests' librams. Much less ordinary visitors are present as well, in an amazingly high quantity. Giants, goblinoids, and figures whose heavy robes on this hot summer day can serve no othr purpose than to hide theyr features.
A table where no gnomes at all are present is a common sight here even at normal times. Since the rumor regarding the pieces of the Longslain Armors spread and was both magically and sacrally verified, a table in the Toprock around which only the odder, even otherworldly personae gathred, has been turning into a regular - if still extremely uncommon - sight as well. Around one such table, never having met before, sat a kobold, a dark elf, a djinn's mortal progeny, and a manshaped piece of darkness. No doubt, all were after the Longslain armor, for one reason or another, though the level of knowlege each of them had on the matter... varried.

Remind me again how we got seated together? This is the oddest table in this whole establishment. Cronir sighs, glancing around to make sure he isn't receiving any dirty glares.
Ah well. That armor will look good in some museum, and the money it'll garner will look even sweeter.

A slim pale blue hand pushed the hood of her cloak back as she took her seat.
A glass of wine was placed in front of her, Cassy nodded her thanks and swiftly the serving lad left.
Cassy had been here once before so the serving lads swiftness came as no surprise.

She took a sip of the cold liquid, savouring the sweet chill while she looked at the others gathered here.

"Well met." She said in voice that sounded like a soft breeze.

She smiled at the Kobold, as if not noticing what sort of creature he was.
"Oh, its not such a bad table and they do very fast service here." Her eyes had a twinkle of merriment to them as if slightly amused by the proceedings.
"money has never held any meaning for me, but the adventure..well, thats a diffrent matter and this sounds like it could be a most intresting adventure indeed." She added as she looked at each and every one of them.

Faeryl Zolond, Exiled Drow Elf of the mysterious, magical place known as ... what was it? ... Faerun?
She had made her home in this institution and insisted on travelling, to learn of the true natures of other beings with whom she would, sooner or later, need to understand in her ultimate mission with which was her purpose here this eve.
It was the sheer will of the Lady of the Dance that she had become seated with these other ... interesting individuals.

Softly, in a husky voice that spoke of both torturous treachery and hinting redemption, the ebon-skinned dancer of Eilistraee regarded the other members at this table.

"Providence, some say, with a skeptical gaze,
Traversing this life, this cruel maze.
Providence, 'tis not, as far as I know,
For 'tis the will of the gods that guides us now."

Her gaze turning to Cronir, an exotic smile lit upon her dark face.

"Uncomfortable though ye may be
You do not from our company make theeself free.

With a twinkle in her eyes, Faeryl pauses before finishing her rhyming thought.

"Soon we shall see what this path holds,
Whether the reward shall be new experiences,
or the shining metal of treasures and golds."

Terrance drifts in through a wall, keeping to the shadows, and out of the light. He makes his way near the group.

"I wouldn't sell it so fast..." He says to the crew, his airy voice drifting through the crowd to them like poison. "I may know some more about it. What if I told I know where to find the rest?"

Absentmindedly Cassy ran her finger round and round the rim of her glass as she listened to the female drow and the wraith. A soft hum began as the glass vibrated; Cassy smiled and lifted the glass to her mouth taking another sip.

Taking a guess it would seem that each of them knew a little about the armour.
"It would seem that we have a starting point." Cassy said to the wraith.

03-19-06, 09:10 AM
Really then? Cronir asks. These people were becoming less strange and more interesting with each word they said. Well, you've got me hooked. All I know is some facts about its origins. Could you say more?

"Its a question of trust."Cassy said.
"After all none of us know each other." Cassy smiled,
"If we all say exactly what we know now what is to stop one of us rushing off ahead of the others and keeping the prize for them selves."
The air genasi took another sip of her drink.

Cassy placed the empty glass down on the table, a young lad darted forward to refill it.
With a graceful flick of her hand Cassy waved the boy away.
"Well, then may be we should get moving." She looked at the group.
"Unless any of you need to rest and gather your travel gear that is?"

"As long as the yellow sun shines, I cannot travel." The wraith replies.

"You'll find that we have been here longer than you think." Cassy said with a nodd towards a window, which showed the brightness of day fast being replaced by the haze of dusk.
"Does any one need any more time to prepare them selves?" She asked the strange gathering.

((Sorry about my lack of activity, y'all. I know I've been holding this up, but with this sudden surge in free time thanks to SPRING BREAK! I should be able to contribute more frequently now. :) ))

While the others were debating the level of trust that existed within this group of ragtag individuals, the dark elf sat in her seat, musing silently as another curious ethereal individual was introduced.
Surely, then, this was not mere happenstance, but the will of the Dancing Maiden. She knew not where this new path would lead her, but she was trusting that it would lead her to where she needed to be.

After a moment, Faeryl Zolond leaned forward, her red eyes, more commonly interpreted as the demonic visage with malicious intent by some who didn't know her well shining with interest and some hidden quality that hinted at something ... more.

“As has been now wisely pointed out,
Secrecy, even among each other is now ideal,
In the event of each other eyeing each other with doubt,
And backstabbing individuals uniting against each other all about.”

Faeryl paused, musing, as she reminisced that this was exactly what had brought about her near ruin. Without the Lady's intervention, she surely would have been destroyed...
For the first time during their whole conversation, the drow's eyes shone with malice and hatred. She detested drow, detested all they stood for, detested their cruel, torturous, and revolting goddess, the Spider Queen. She detested their cities, their weapons, their markets. She detested their families, their pretense of kindness, while conceit existed. She detested the eternal strife and warfare that existed in their cities.
Still ... all of her knowledge and experiences of that dark, lightless place may very well aid her - and all of them - now.

"One of the Lightless Below I once was, and again,
And within the Lightless Abyss there exists there,
Pieces of the great artifact, gathered with thoughts of gain,
Easily retrieved by one who knows the Lightless Pain."

It was with a sadistic sense of pleasure and satisfaction that Faeryl spoke her next cryptic words.

"Once have I struck down the ebony skinned disgrace,
Belonging to the group with aims equal to my race.
Twice again have I slain the ebon-skinned seeking this,
Those who have a keen agenda with much amiss."

It was then that many members of the group there began to speak of departing before less savory individuals arrived. With a nod, Faeryl rose, nodding with consent to the genasi's words.

"Ready for the road I always have been,
For the necessity of leaving behind the greed of men."

The wraith looks out.

"Indeed, the doth fast fade, and I am indeed ready to be leaving. Let us, then, disembark. I can show where the piece I know of rests, but before we can use it, we must find ourselves a cleric."

The wraith drifts through the table to the front door, and stands there waiting.

"Where to?", asks a cheerful voice, as a horse-driven wagon with two horses {and place for another one} stops just infront of the group, as it comes ouf of the Toprock's huge doors. The goblin driving the horses is dressed just like an averege chikrizan gnome, and seems perfectly comfortable in that clothing. He quickly looks the party over, and although he shivers slightly at the sight of Faeryl and Terrance, his happy-to-serve expression instantly returns; a necromancer and its undead minion was one of the things he knew he'll end up driving one day, if he continues working from northern Moslehyll and the Toprock, and has always been mentally prepared.

A gnome riding a single horse stops nearby; the horse draws a wagon almost identical to the goblin's, probbaly manufactured by the same craftsman. Over the horse's neck, however, fits an odd leather harness, holding two white quarz bottles on one side, and one red and one brown on the other. A tube extands from each of the bottles into the horse's mouth. A silver rod is strapped to the driver's belt, and his garmetns are more expensive, with a guild's insignia worn over the colar. "The Outskirt's Wagoneers Guild takes you to your destiantion quickly, safely, and guarantees that your business is forgotten a soon as it is carried out, should such be your wish, for no extra payment!", he announces proudly, as he opens his wagon's door by pulling a hidden string, and motions for them to enter.

By the door, his arms folded on his chest, stands a different gnome. In his rich, green and silver robes of elven design, and his guild's insignia on his belt, this person remains silent, as he really needs no introduction. Anyone who was once here, and many who never were, would instantly recognize his arcane uniform as that of the Wayfarers Guild. No mounts, no wagons - only a spoken magical formula and a wave of such a person's hands, and the customer is at his destimation, whereas the wayfarer, uppon return, loses that destination, the customer's face, and other details to a pinch of Amnesia Dust.

I can show where the piece I know of rests, but before we can use it, we must find ourselves a cleric."

The wraith drifts through the table to the front door, and stands there waiting.

Faeryl looked to Terrance with gleaming, red eyes.

"The Dark Maiden dost smile upon thee this day,
For I dance the Sacred Dance by ebon-skin,
In a place and time from here removed far,
She blessed me with divine power deep within."

She nodded in regard to the Wayfarer mode of transportation.

"If haste and stealth are the methods that we desire,
I see no purpose over this matter to longer perspire."

As Terrance further offered his sources of information, Faeryl paused. Hadn't they agreed to discreetly hold their information from within them? Hadn't they been afraid of treachery and deceit by their other companions?
It seemed, now, that the retrieval of this artifact was the most important task at this moment.
It was thus with piercing red eyes of knowledge that Faeryl next spoke.

"Powerful magic detected from deep within,
In the Lightless Below where many travel therein.
In the Tweelight Markets between there and here,
A bracer passed hands, tained with darkness and fear.

An Elder Brain does, far from here, exist,
In a caved-in abyss under the Clawed Strait.
Immense stores of knowledge through which it will sift,
For the proper sacrifice that is of proportions right.”

03-28-06, 02:33 AM
Cassy chewed thoughtfully on the tip of her index finger as she looked over the two modes of transport.
She knew of the Wayfarers Guild, and it would get them there quickly as Faeryl stated and yet…
May be quickness wasn’t always best. A slower journey would allow her to get to know her fellow travellers a little better, especially if she ever found herself needing to rely on any of them in the face of danger, she just hoped that her silent partner would understand, a delay now might help them be quicker later.

She dropped her hand to her side and smiled at the gnome
"Sorry friend, but not today."She said politely as she moved over to the gnome and his carriage.

She turned to Cronir, the only one left who hadnt picked a method of transport yet.
"And you little one, which do you think we should take?" she asked of him.

Though while she waited from him to decide her thoughts focused on the drows words about the bracer, and her own knowledge of the Longslain Armor, most of what she knew was to do with its past history.

I say we take the Wagoneer's offer. It's more trustworthy than the goblin or the magic the Wayfarers use, Cronir whispers. In his mind, though, he wanted speed and efficiency, and should push come to shove, he'd just side with whoever was with the Wayfarer.
Khaira

03-31-06, 02:40 PM
Faeryl considered their options for a long moment. They could opt for the Wayfarer's Guild for a journey with swift speed and heightened secrecy. The question was if there was a need to keep to secrecy at this point?

Perhaps, if they opted for the Wagoneer, they would have time to discuss their plans, destinations, and their individual knowledges about the Longslain Armor.

"The gnome with the forgetful magic would be useful,
Should we desire secrecy and subtleness in our travels.
With the Wagoneer there would be no risk of magic abuse,
And our plans for retrieval during the journey we could unravel."

Seeing that none of the four seems to be interested in his services, the goblin taps his horses with the reins, and moves on to the next series of people spilling out of the Toprock's doors, as he murmurs something under his nose about fancy guilds, with theyr magic, and ingeneering, and potions, taking away all the clients. Fortunately for him, the distance his next "marks" intend to travel is much humbler, and they readily climb into his wagon, happy for the low price of a mundane, two-horse carriage.

"So, where shall my noble Ladies and Sir choose to travel this fine evening?", asks the gnomish wagoneer, as if he were already elected from all other options.

The Wayfarer's eyes are now floating frequently over the group, however, as - eventhough he is out of hearing range, considering the lively noise around - his professional expereince tells him they are probbaly considering him as an option. As is the habbit with most of his collegues, however, he lets his readiness to serve be implied and "obvious", rather than flushed with a redundant flow of self-praise, overpredictable questions, and other needless words that a rich and important client might find irritating.

Cassy raised a delicate brow as one of the wagons moved on, they could call it back she supposed..
"Well we ought to make a choice before we are left to walk it!"she said with a hint of amusement to her voice.
"I guess we will have plenty of other moments to get to know each other, but for now we really ought to make a move,Especially as one of us can only move when the sun sleeps."

She took a step towards the quiet gnome of the Wayfarers Guild, then looked back at her companions.
"Coming?" she asked them, her moods and opinions as changeable as the wind.
Drindin

04-02-06, 05:10 PM
"Very well then." The wraith resigns and drifts slowly towards the Gnome, looking to the redeemed Dark Elf. "I suppose we have little choice but to follow, now." He looks to the Gnome. "To the pointvale cemetry."

04-04-06, 10:22 AM
The wayfarer smiles, as he sees the group approaching him, but then blinks in momentary confusion. Is that a wraith? Yes it is - no doubt here. Some wizards and dark priests surround themselves with such minions. But did that wraith just speak to him? Oh well, if it speaks, that's reason enough to charge for it as if it were an individual, rather than self-propelled property. Desiding not to ask too many questions, he tried pretending everything is perfectly normal, as he spoke:
"Pointvale? Just a moment..." with that, he closed his eyes, and made a quick motion with his right hand, then opened them. "Aha, got it. So, the four of you? Let's see: four individuals, southwest, eight hundred and ten landknots, normal height, one minor hindrance crossed, no special obstacles. That is two hundred and thirty five golden coins (or an equal value in precious stones or metals)." As he spoke, he pulled out a mirror, a small rod of rainbow-colored clay, and a tied leather pouch, impressively making each item hang, slowly turning, in the empty air before him.
"Additionally, for one third again of that price, - ummm, that's seventy nine and four silvers - if messir wishes, i can use scrying to enhance the teleportation's percision, bringing you within eyesight of a specific grave of your choice, or of any other such landmark you would specify.", he added, pointing to what must be his scrying mirror. Indicating the clay rod, he continued:
"I can also inform you of the location of our nearest representative to your point of arrival, or, for nine silvers, you may purchase this token, which will enable you to alert the nearest Wayfarers outpost of your need in our services."
Untying the pouch with a single tug, revealing some oddly heavy, white dust that fills it about halfway, he finishes presenting the optional features of his service: " Finally, if you so wish, the destination of your travel can be erased from my memory, uppon your arrival, for no additional payment." The gnome smiles, awaiting his four customers' orders both patiently and attentively. It must have taken years of working with the guild, to learn to calculate theyr prices so quickly and recite all this "menu" without losing his breath.
Faeryl

04-11-06, 02:21 PM
Wordlessly, Faeryl brushed aside her cloak to reach into a shimmering, obsidian-colored bag. After but a moment, her hand was retracted holding three, sparkling red rubies, which were estimated, at least she had been told, to be worth around some large, indeterminable amount of gold coins.

She pursed her lip as she regarded the precious rubies sparkling in her hands. Monetary value had never been altogether that important to her. Most of her life had been on the road, and most of the rest of her life - to whatever extent it would last - would likely be on the road.

Holding out a hand to the Wayfarer Guide, Faeryl let the three rubies drop into his hands - totaling, approximately, three-hundred pieces of gold

"All of your offers I now accept,
There is the payment for you,
We are arranged properly except,
Amnesia for us you must do."
Quathmoir Dlaeh Issarhai

04-11-06, 08:24 PM
"Wonderful!", said the gnome, as the large, shiny rubbies fell into his hand. Estimating theyr conjoined worth around the three hundred and twenty golds, he saw they will cover the price indeed. "All offers, you say? Well then, Mistress, let us begin the scrying!" Covering his mouth with his left hand, after emptying it into his pocket, he murmured some words, while tracing the symbold of the Wayfarers' guild on the mirror's surface. "Coutmount exterior; cemeteries around Pointvale.", he said, and the reflection in the mirror tore, revealing a scene familiar to Terrance: an ancient-looking burial ground, surrounding the vilage of Pointvale in a interrupted hemicircle. A few clean, basalt walkways pass between some of the old and grim tombs, leading to wholesome, simple, newly erected gravestones - the final resting places of those who passed away since the vialge's recent resettlement.
"Point the way, generous masters. The mirror will enlarge any area you touch on, untill you can choose your persice destination! Thence, i shall perform the transportation, and remove it from my memory, for the discretion of our business." He flashes another "professional" smile, likely powered by his apreciation of Faeryl's chosen form of payment.
Drindin

04-11-06, 08:57 PM
Terrances eyes focus onto one tomb which looks wethered and beaten by the years. Two stone guard watch over it, there features dulled by ages of harsh wind and rain. "That tomb. There. That's the one."
Quathmoir Dlaeh Issarhai

04-11-06, 11:52 PM
When the wraith speaks, the picture stops moving, and the current section of the gravyard enlarges, untill finally, the tomb Terrance indicated takes up the whole frame. "Now that all is set, let us begin!", says the Wayfarer, as he looks into the mirror, and begins his spell. After the first fewgestures and words he closes his eyes, to keep from being distracted by the scenery, and continues. Seconds later, a light wave of force pushes nearby people and objects aside, and the air seems to tear before the wizard's face, revealing a swirling, greyish emptyness. The grey "hole" grows in size, untill it is finally as large as a hall's gate, and begins turning. If anyone glimpses its side, they would see it has none - the hole is perfectly two-dimentional. His spell completed, the gnome opens his eyes, and quickly steps to stand with his four customers. The "hole" floats towards them, swalowing them, and after a single moment of sudden vertigo - they see around them the exact same place they beheld in the scrying mirror.

Beneath theyr feet, is no longer the granit which paved the Toprock Inn's square, but a slightly wet dirt, with some pebbled remains of what centuries ago were walkways. The wind is strong here, and seems to be costant, instead of coming in waves or bursts, like wind usually does. Sickly flowers grow in some spots around and between the tombs, almost looking as if they were plucked from elsewhere - maybe even without theyr roots - and carelessly tucked into the earth here. None of the new graves are close, and the ground here lacks any footprints. The gnome lays the rainbow-colored piece of clay in Faeryl's hand. "Once you desire the Guild's services again, simply break this token." Bowing respectfully to his customers, he demostratively takes a pich of the white dust into his palm, inhales it with his nose, looks briefly around, and steps backwards into the greyish screen, which closes and disappears in his wake. The four adventurers are left standing before the old tomb of a long-forgotten resident of these parts.
Faeryl

04-12-06, 12:12 PM
After the magic ended, Faeryl kneeled, her eyes closed as she attempted to regain her bearings. Growing up among powerful magics hadn't necessarily made her immune to its ill aftereffects.
Hearing the gnome speaking somewhere in the foggy haziness in the close proximity, Faeryl rose slowly opening her eyes. She took the rainbow-colored badge in her hands, turning it around and around in her hand as she inspected it. Finally, she nodded to the gnome.

"On behalf of my presently silent friends,
I thank thee for thy services now at end."

As the gnome dissapeared, she slipped the badge into another compartment, turning to Terrance.

"Naught whilst we achieve this hour,
if stand here for longer we do.
What clue has led you to this place of fallen flower,
Work now we should ... of time, we have too few."
Drindin

04-13-06, 01:11 AM
Terrance gives a wry chuckle. "This is where I died." He laughs, almost as though he finds death a humorous concept. He steps towards the tomb and looks it over smirking to himself, still chuckling once in a while.

"I could step in without so much as a thought. However, I could not move the heavy stone. One of you must do so for me."

04-15-06, 04:55 AM
Cassy’s hand went to the small pouch on her hip, but Faeryl was quicker in offering payment.
She hummed a soft tune as she watched the scene in the mirror. The place did not seem familiar to her.
As Terence pointed out the exact place they wanted to go to so the scene expanded.

Cassy readied herself for the strange feeling of disorientation that such travel caused no matter how often one had used it before.

While the drow thanked the gnome Cassy glanced around at their new surroundings, such graceful desolation she thought.
A soft chuckle bought her back to the task in hand, the place he had died or the place of his burial she wondered as she took a step closer to the tomb.
Her gaze ran over it taking in the worn stone, but she did not touch.

"Do you know if it is warded at all?"she asked Terrance.
Drindin

04-18-06, 06:17 PM
Terrance looks at her. "I know of none on the door... at least, ones that don't require it to be open." He looks back at it. "There are a number of magic traps within that have not been activated by my passing, but that might have more to do with the fact that I am not alive."
Khaira

04-19-06, 09:47 PM
Faeryl looked to Terrance questioningly, then to the door. If the traps were magical in nature, she could likely ascertain the locations of those traps but not the effects that the triggering of them would bring about.

"If what you say is that the traps within,
Are purely magical in nature and trigger,
Then the Dark Maiden, through me, shall ascertain,
What ill effects awaits our step so limber.

Finding that which is most deadly and hidden,
This skill does not come to me unbidden.
Yet with the grace of the Lady of the Dance,
This also I can accomplish in a pretending sence."

Cassy stops humming for a moment, and looks at Cronir.
"And you, our little friend, do you have any thoughts about how to proceed?"
Taeldrin Laesrash

04-29-06, 10:11 AM
Well, traps are't a problem for me, I've got the stuff to disable them, both magical and nonmagical, However, maybe our deceased friend here culd tell us a bit more on what's in this place? His eyes slowly but surely scanned the old stone, looking for something that would resemble a hidden way in, or a way to stop the traps.
Quathmoir Dlaeh Issarhai

04-29-06, 02:00 PM
While there is still no concrete evidence of the crypt's door being trapped, Cronir does notice something unusual about the left stone guardian. Time treated it better than its twin, and while it is still hard to say what race the graveyard's sculptor had in mind while shaping it, its left hand - the one part almost untouched by the harsh weather throughout the centuries - seems dwrven. It is slightly bent at the elbow, and the palm, cupped as if to catch raindrops or recieve something, faces upwards. The curious thing, however, is at the statue's shoulder: a fine crack goes around it, as if the entire arm was severed from the rest of the stone, and then reattached again. None other than Cronir is able to distinguish this irregularity of the stone's surface, and even the kobold only noticed it after attentive examination.
kulideb

04-30-06, 05:37 AM
While the Kobold looked over the crypt, Cassy started to hum once more.
The hum was a soft , slow melancholy tune barely audible, slowly she opened her mind to the souls around her, the soft hum kept her from being over whelmed by their emotions.

The ‘strongest’ souls were those of her ‘live’ companions, one had a strong over tone of cynicism, the other was Chaotic yet good. The air genasi passed over them, opening her mind to the souls of the dead.

A shiver ran through her so much evil, so much sorrow, so many lost souls that it was hard to sort through any individuals.
Her hum grew softer still as she concentrated. Many of the souls were underground, many long dead, and those she filtered out leaving just the souls on the surface.

Cassy scanned them looking for any thing that would help her and her fellow adventures, but nothing came to her that would be of any use.
Slowly she turned till she faced the last of the dead souls, a look of puzzlement crossed her face as she ‘read’ the nature of his soul. Cassy turned away from Terrance.

"May be if you and Faeryl work together, we can open it?" she said to Cronir, though she sounded a little distracted as she spoke.

M'kay, who here can crack stone? The statue on the left's arm has a crack around it. Forget the door, I've got something promising here. Cronir absentmindedly gestures to the statue he's talking about, as his eyes look between the genasi and drow.
Faeryl

05-01-06, 10:59 AM
Nodding to Cronir, Faeryl looked to the statue, before pondering momentarily to herself.

"Strength is not where blessings of the moon lie,
Subtler methods first shall I call forth and try."

Walking forth towards the statue, Faeryl raised her arms skywards, her naked blade resting steadily in her hands. Raising her head to the sky, she began to sing in a ritualistic tone

"Dark Maiden, blessings that strengthen such as I,
Lend me now the power of moon to invigorate the ebony body,
Against steadfast brother, let moonlight fly,
Reveal to us methods most ready!"

As the brief song commenced, a silvery radiance not unlike the light of the moon framed the drow priestess' body, seeming to raise sinewy muscles and create a stronger presence among this companion.
The light then coalesced into a focal point upon the blade of the sword and, at long last, she took the hilt of the sword with both hands. With a quick swing and a yell, Faeryl looked as though she would strike the rock but, instead, pointed the blade in the direction of the statue, silvery light flying towards it.

As Faeryl swinged her sword, it vibrated in the unnatural moonlight, emitting a high-pitched sound. As the movement stopped, and the flash of light was released from the blade, so stopped the vibration, though the sound only grew stronger. Uppon impact, the noise vanished, grounding into the stone. The statue's surface shook visibly, and a few large pieces fell off it. The left hand, sure enough, was among those pieces; as it fell, a metalic mechanism was revealed, strangely unrusted, pertruding from the shoulder. By the looks of it, the line of metal which went into the now-missing arm would have activated, if the arm were pressed like a lever. Whether the mechanism is sitll functional now, after the statue's distruction, is anyone's guess. The statue's head rolls towards the party, and reluctantly stops near Faeryl's feet, its right ear facing up.

"May be not all is lost." Cassy said as she peered at the now exposed lever.
"looks like its in good order...hopefully." She said with a smile.

Cassy looked closely at the remains of the mechanism, no traps had been sprung so far.
"Shall I give it a go?"she asked the group, reaching out a pale hand towards the lever.
Taeldrin Laesrash

05-07-06, 06:17 PM
Hm. That depends. Do you have any experience with traps? Cronir cynically replies as Cassy begins to reach for the exposed lever. I guess not. If you really knew what you were doing, you'd be using a pole or magic. I've got one on me. Reaching into the back of his cloak pocket, the kobold gradually pulls a five-foot wooden stick out of the pocket, and hands it to her.

Even when Cassy reached the extent of her strength, the lever only screeched quietly, moving no more than a few milimeters. An indistinct and quiet sound echoed, as if in responce, from either the stone doors itself or from just beyond it, but that's all. Apparently, to pull the lever down - if that is at all possible - would require much greater strength or weight than the genasi posesses.

Drat. Cronir pauses in thought for a minute, before reaching into his pockets. He pulls out a dull gray stone.

Might as well try rigging some levers. Tie this stone to the lever. I can make it weigh loads on command.
Faeryl

05-31-06, 01:21 AM
Wordlessly, after Cassy had done all she good to the lever and Cronir had made a suggestion, the drow cleric, still strengthened and enjoying increased fortitude due to the favor of the Dancing Maiden, moved over to the lever and, utilizing all her strength pressed down on the lever.

Following that, the drow elf moves to where the grating of stone had sounded from and, with her hands and intense eyes, began to search for any other indications that there was some form of an entrance.

It require so much effort, that Faery all but pulls herself off her feet to hang onto the lever, but eventually, it moves. Once it began its way, it is notably easier, and finally, with a loud noise of stone dragging on stone, she brings it down to what seems to be its lowest position - over a meter from its innitial angle. While she was busy pulling, the others could see the thick stone plate, blocking the way into the crip, part in the middle and begin moving sidewards, like double slideing doors. When the drow finishes, both halves of the door are hidden behind the cript's walls, and the way is free. Torches line the walls, along the broad staircase leading down... and they actually burn! Their flame is odd, with bluish tongues among the normal red ones, but still it seems to be fire. As Faeril approaches, the entrance is already obvious, though her observant nature made further things evident to her...
Faeryl

06-05-06, 04:05 PM
As Faeryl keen sight pierced the darkness before her, lavender eyes traversed the penetrated darkness, meticulously scanning the seemingly harmless area before her.
With scrutinizing and meticulous perceptions, the drow finally nodded grimly at something before turning back to her comrades.

Motioning to the entrance, she spoke quicly but frankly.

"Awaiting fresh blood and virgin bodies within the threshold,
twin danger awaits a foolish step for it to unfold.
Following the door, threads await to be triggered,
Whilst any weight will adversely threat, thus mine eyes figure."

Motioning with ebon-skinned hands past the entrance to the tomb, she spoke once again.

"Reaching arms of metal await those of us who tread in flesh,
Purpose and motive hidden from eyes such as I,
Whose life has not been experienced with piercing traps with these eyes,
Further assistance of an experienced sort shall be required."

Pointing again towards the metal arms, Faeryl enacted a power common to her race, faerie fire forging up to, hopefully, outline the metal arms for all to see.

Cassy stepped back to allow the drow space, plus if any thing bad did happen then hopefully it wouldn’t affect her!

Soon Faeryl efforts are rewarded with the scrape of stone on stone, not the most pleasant of noises, but right now most welcome.

Cassy took a step closer, as the entrance at last is shown. From just behind Faeryl she can see the strange blue lights.

At last the drow turned to them.
"Is it just the floor that is trapped? For I can walk on air without my feet ever touching the ground." Cassy said softly. As she peered behind the drow at the strangely lit entrance.

A faint smile and smirk formed on Cronir's mouth as the door to the tomb opened. But upon hearing Faeryl's words, it disappeared quickly.

Purplish sparks fly forth from Faeryl's fingers, and a few steps into the cript's semi-darkness, they settle on the walls to outline two narrow beams of metal, seemingly built into the granite, positioned simetrically on each side of the path leading in. The sparks that landed along the way now shimmer on a stone plate in the floor, taking up almost the entire width of the passage and atleast twice as long as it is wide. For only a moment or two, the faerie fire flickers at the very entrance, struggling to hold on to something too ephemere to support it - perhaps an infinicimally thin membrane, or even a lose network of threads, thinner than a spider's web.
Faeryl

06-06-06, 04:22 PM
Faeryl motioned to where the harmless flames common to her race now revealed what had been common to her only scant moments ago.

"There now I pray you see with your own eyes,
That which obstructs that way to our prize."

"Is it just the floor that is trapped? For I can walk on air without my feet ever touching the ground."

"'Lest you can remove the dangers within,
Thy presence would be the only one safe therein.
Threads like the webs of Lolth await,
And only for another's blood shall it be slaked.

Thy weightless footsteps may well aid ye,
But would not pose aid for our companions and me.
Perhaps, too, if our own steps were weightless,
We could traverse the crypt dauntless."

The drow elf paused, shaking her head momentarily as she leaned on the bastard sword, pursing her lips in thought.

"As a blessing of the Dancing Maiden, watching over my race,
I can soon and with great ease make mine an aerial pace,
Yet perhaps it be best for our gathered fellowship,
If our most competent see what there is to see,
Whilst the rest stand guard out here with me."

The corridor and the staircase are characterized by the ocasional remains of traps that were disabled by many adventurous encursions into this tomb in the past - none of these, unlike the magical ones of which he knews, can harm anyone now. Without a word Cassy handed the pole back over to Cronir.
A soft breeze stirred her long locks of hair as slowly the air genasi rose a few inches off the ground.
"I'm afraid I can only make my self walk upon the wind." She said to the drow.
Though unlike their ghostly friend Cassy didnt enter the crypt.

A slight frown crossed her brow as she looked at Terrance, as a faint caress of long lost souls brushed her mind, had he already Caused a disturbance? And should she warn the others. "I have little to waist on you sacks of flesh."

For the first time, Faeryl's face displayed emotion as she turned in afterthought of Terrance's words. Her eyes narrowed maliciously at Terrance bearing, for a fleeting moment, the same infinite evil that was so the trademark of her race filling her eyes and her voice as her hand reached up to brush her holy symbol, for but a moment.

"Little whisper of a remnant that once bore power,
Impatient whispers of words from thee grow by every minute sour.
Cease forever to threaten, push, and prod,
Lest I send you now to meet your god."

"We need to make the rest of you lighter to gain entrance, we can worry about other dangers as we go along," she said turning her gaze back to Cronir and Faeryl.

The drow elf who seemed to be reverting to darker ways rolled her eyes at Cassy's words, her next response holding a venomous sting which dripped with sarcasm.

"I'd forgotten how careless and foolhardy surface-dwellers can be,
Impatient to charge unto pitiful, unremarkable deaths with glee.
Conquer over the waiting traps we have power and resources to do,
Using your brains would be wise, rather than rushing in like a fool."

She motioned impatiently, as if she were speaking to a child, to where the harmless fires still outlined the webs, the platform, as well as the two beams of metal, which may or may not be a trap.

"Open your eyes and your ears and, for once, shut your mouth.
Weightless forms would aid us only a little henceforth.
Other obstacles need to be dealt with,
'Fore we can venture forthwith."

Faeryl gave a last look to the traps that were still outlined by the lavender glow of her faerie fire while, the act of which better illuminated the deadly mechanical manifestations, better for which to enable her companions to detect them, and for Cronir to disable them.

To his request to attempt to disable the magical traps, she sighed. Even the trappings of magic were not her specialty. Her was no such a direct power such as that. Yet, perhaps, with the blessings of her beneficient goddess, she might be able to accomplish that ... barely, though almost certainly not without some measure of cost to her health.

"Detect the presence of magical traps I ascertain,
Confidence do I have in disabling that which would be my bane,
The source of my power lies along a different path,
That which relies not on direct so subtle and fast.

Should I interefere in the traps of the magical nature,
I may commune with my goddess not much later.
Try to divine this information, I shall attempt,
And pray that the magic within holds me not in contempt."

Faeryl then begin a soft, murmuring prayer, words of power reaching up the ever-vigilant and entertained ears of her goddess. Her lavender orbs closing, whilst the other senses - and, assuredly, the more important ones - awakened in strength. Within a moments, Faeryl sensed rather than saw the cone that stretched out in front of her. So intent was she on her efforts, her concentration so deep and profound, she did not even react to the quickly flashing triggering of the trap.

When Cronir's pole lands on the outlined floorplate, it doesn't seem to sink down, or move in any other way, but the reaction comes instantly: the two metal beams swing out of the walls with such speed that not all can even see it happened, their arcs overlapping, and settle into neiches in the stone wall, at the end of their arcs. One breaks the kobold's pole in half, and as the broken part falls on the floorplate, the beams swing out again, returning to their innitial position with blinding speed. Spikes can be seen on the beams sides, which face the entrance, and it'd be reasonable to assume similar barbs are on their other sides as well.

At first, it seems as though the entire tomb, far as the spellsight reaches, emits a faint aura of alteration. As the drow's spiritual sight adjusts, she begins noticing the auras are almost identical, but seporate: the floorplate, the spiked beams, the threads at the entrance, the door itself, the ruined statue with the lever, and various undescernable objects further in and down the tomb, each posesses a light imprint of alteration. Finally, a whitish, hardly noticable mist forms around the threads, indicating an insignificant trace of necromancy within them.

08-17-06, 12:42 AM
The lone drow pursed a lip as her sentience spanned forth across the tomb. Her form swayed, as a snake charmer might, after being charmed by the snake, instead of vice versa. After the next moment, her form steadied. A growing frown formed on her formerly steadfast features as the magic diviniation revealed the magical auras.
Softly, she uttered a heartfelt curse in the language of her people

"Orbb mrannd'ssinss vhid rilvel'klar ... gordo elghinn k'lar zhah ssolssohl xuil ol!"

After that profound - and sleightly enraged statement - she opened her eyes to look about at her companions. She recognized, with an expertise that came with too much practice, the cold feel of the necromantic energies. Whether that was simply Terrance's presence or other denizens of the tomb, she could not be sure.
Regardless, she could not think of only one way to eliminate the deadliness of the traps that awaited them. If she could eliminate the magics within, perhaps they could make their way - quickly - through.
With a quick glance to Cronir, she called out to him, her voice resonating eerily on the walls of the tomb.

"Sreen abbil , out you must make your swift way,
Magically touched are the traps, this much I can say.
Safely dismantle these traps from a distance is within my power,
Though the release of magical energies may swift turn sour.

Unfortunately there yet remains a single concern of my mind,
For things farther down the hall bear a magical resonance.
Perhaps our unsavory companion of neither life nor death
Would unto us enlighten us of objects forthwith."

While she waited for Cronir to retreat from the recently triggered - though not to her knowledge - trap, her lavender eyes peered down the hall, concentrating on the barely indiscernible objects further past the deadly traps.

Damn. Looks like I'll need a new pole. Cronir pushes the pole into itself until it has been reduced to a shape similar to a can of soup. He puts it back into his cloak, and slowly walks away from the tomb's entrance.
All right, he says to Faeryl, If you can dispel the magic in these traps, I've got a spell that can temporarily jam these traps, which should give me enough time to diasble them for good. Can you do it?...But first, you're right I suppose. What does our incorporeal friend here know about what's inside?

08-18-06, 10:59 PM
Faeryl frowned as she watched Cronir makes his way back to her side, her gaze locked past him, on the contents of the tomb. There was a lot of magic emanating from this place ... and this was just the beginning of the entrance. What awaited them further on? With a mutter, she repeated her previous statement, to no individual in particular, it seemed.

"Orbb mrannd'ssinss vhid rilvel'klar ... gordo elghinn k'lar zhah ssolssohl xuil ol ..."

She looked to Cronir then, and half nodded. After a moments' consideration, she spoke again, motioning to the now-sundered statue, the traps, and the area farther down the tomb.

"Magical sight has revealed to me these things three:
The traps are magically altered, not what they seem,
The sundered statue, also, bears an identical magical degree,
Threads of the spider are magic, also, of a necromantic gleam."

Know not do I what may now transpire,
Nor if I now put our fates on a thin wire.
Yet deduce this much, of definite certainty, I have,
Closer inspection of magic further along we require.

If too dangerous things may become, worry not;
I've the power to transport farther into this place of rot."

Following those words, Faeryl lifted her arms to the heavens, reverting to a incantation of her native language. As she chanted, unseen power seemed to coalesce between her fingertips, her hands, and the traps.

"Olath Wenress, hearken ulu ussta lar d' dortho,
Whol udos ssrig'luin l' faerl xal d' natha ilharess.
Elgg l' sreenath faeren qua'laen udossa,
Nindel udos xal sultha velkyn.
Ji mote ol tlu!"

As her eerily divine chant came to a close, she thrust her arms out towards the tomb, a black splendor, looking very much like a hunting spider, surged towards the location of the entrance and the traps. The essence of maigcal energy soughht out the location of these traps, seeking to veritably cover the area.

Though the noise of the pole snapping made her hop back a little, she just hoped that the pair knew what they were doing.

As Faeryl's prayer was answered, all magic was suddenly snuffed out of her sight: the floor plate sank down noisily, raising tiny clouds of dust, the metal beams swang out again, one of them causing the wall to crack a bit and falling out of its socket. Some of the strings tore from the concussion, and without the regenerative magic - did not regrow. One of the tomb's doors sank oakwardly into the earth, while the other slid back into closed position, blocking one half of the entrance. The lever pertruding from the statue covered rapidly with rust before the adventurers' eyes. A hole opened outside the tomb, in the ground directly beneath Terrance, with no result whatsoever, due to obvious reasons. Further down the tomb, many things groaned, creeked, cracked, broke, combusted, fizzled and swang out to hang lose on their hinges or charneers; portions of the cieling collapsed in, as portion of the walls did out, but none to an extent that would make passage much harder. Something spat in the distance, filling the staircase with greenish, popping and reforming bubbles, but they too disappeared in a moment, as they reached the area where Faeryl's power held sway. When this prolonged display of magically-dependant disfunction finally ended, leaving a severely damaged corridoor, with remains of misactivated traps hanging into it and lying around, only few of the torches remained intact, and those no longer burned. The way in and down was now dark, but - atleast for some distance - apparently safe.

Secrets await, mysteries here abound,
Light of the new day, to banish shadows around."

With those words, Faeryl touched her own body, a surging power emanating from her body, coalescing with steadfast power into a dim light and then, after a moment, into full blown daylight that radiated in a sixty-foot radius around her person.

The sun has set completely now, and while Pointvale's lights are the neares, a short walking distance to the north, no direction seems completely devoid of visible lights. These are further away, but a few and far betweem fires can be seen to the west - likely from some fishing vilages - and the east, where Chikriza's small "frtontier" settlemants must stand. The south is dominated by a pire that seems very close, although by daylight you could all see there was nothingof this nature nearby in that direction, and far behind it - eery, swampy luminiscence.

But illuminated by Faeryl's faith, the way can be seen clearly by all now: the rather fubar hallway leads to a staircase, which descends steeply down. The immidiate area, far as you can see, is quite safe; unless you are alergic to dust, in which case you are likely to die a horrible death.

Cassy blinked at the light, it was much brighter than she had expected.
"Oh! well done!" She said to Faeryl.

Cassy took one last look around, in the distance fires twinkled as folk settled down for the evening, If I had any sense then I would be settling down at a cosy Inn! she thought to herself, with that thought Cassy moved forward her feet stiring up the dust.
"Downwards" she said as she looked at the stairs.
"How far ahead were you able to clear the traps?" She asked her remaining companions as the ghost was no were in sight.

Cronir shielded his eyes from the light as he turned and replied to Cassy.
I think the dispel knocked out every trap in the hallway. I'll keep checking for more traps as we go in. If the drow's got any more magic like that, It'll be great.

Faeryl looked towards the light of civilization, pondering to herself. A wry smile flitted across her expression. Murmuring to herself under her breath, she lifted a hand to softly touch her hoyl symbol.

"When I die, I pray it is such a time,
A time when I can yet see my untainted brethren,
I bear hope in my breast, of forgiveness of Her crime,
That I may die, smiling, attended by a friend."

With a sigh, Faeryl turned, to motion with her fancifully decorated blade, that reminder from her goddess, of her life's purpose.

"Tarry here longer is pointless since now,
Our actions from our goal now digress."

Her body still gleaming with light of the sun, the drow elf priestess made her way down the hall towards the stairs.

I guess it's time to stop beating around the brush and go on, Cronir said as he cautiously followed Faeryl.
Finally, a chance to do some real dungeon delving! I can taste the treasure already! the kobold said to himself.

Pushing a lock of hair behind her ear, Cassy nodded in agrement with the others.
Step by step, deeper and deeper she went down the corridor till she arrived at the stairs. All the time she kept her mind open to the sounds of the dead souls around her.
Downwards." She said to Faeryl and Cronir, even though it was stating the obvious.
Cassy paused to allow the others to check for traps before setting foot on the stairs.
