Priló Toewalker History:

Priló the halfling thief was always a mischievous sort, getting himself into all kinds of trouble. He tries to steal almost anything from anybody…more as just a game then any real crime. If caught, he smiles, and returns the stolen item with a sheepish grin.

One day, Priló got himself into too much hot water. A traveling noble merchant named Lord Galivar arrived in the city of Caronis from the exotic lands far to the west. In the confusion of the Caronis marketplace, Priló managed to get close enough to “accidentally” bump into Lord Galivar and simultaneously steal his pouch from him.

After deftly vanishing among the crowed throng, Priló later examined the contents of the pouch. It contained a large diamond, which Priló estimated to be at least 10,000 gold pieces in value! Knowing that this was a very hot item and not knowing how to get rid of it, the Halfling rogue fled the city of Caronis. He traveled for a week before stopping in the city of Phalemor, which is a way-stop for travelers and adventurers.

Anxious to get rid of the gem, Priló sold it to a traveling wizard for a fraction of its cost, although still making a tidy sum of gold. The wizard then left with some roving companions to explore an old ruined castle supposedly hidden somewhere in the woods east of Phalemor. The wizard and his group never returned.

Priló has been lying low in Phalemor for several weeks now, bidding his time. But he has just learned of some dark and dangerous looking individuals who are asking about him on the streets. He fears, correctly, that there were sent by Lord Galivar to retrieve the gem or at least to settle the score with the Halfling. Priló is not able to pay back even a tiny portion of the gem’s value, because he spent all the money he got for selling it on masterwork pieces of equipment he had custom made for himself.

The three arrivals in town are bounty hunters sent by Lord Galivar through his underground connections with the Assassin’s Guild. They are led by a human female. They are ruthless mercenaries and assassins. Their first goal is to retrieve the diamond. Should that prove impossible, they are to bring back the head of the Halfling thief to Lord Galivar.

Priló has spotted the three bounty hunters on his trail. They are closing in on him quickly. He figures his only chance is to find some protection. Perhaps from a group of adventurers within the city walls…

Moru Armannhammer …of the Redwarrior Clan
Male Dwarf Fighter
http://a5.cpimg.com/image/B9/FD/46274745-6ad0-009000C8-.jpg
~history~

Moru Armannhammer is a broad-shouldered dwarf standing just about 4’ 6” tall with thick reddish brown hair, a long braided beard and cold black eyes. Moru’s ancestors hail from the White Mountains, the home of a dying race, the consequence of many years of war against Orc Raiders and the great Dragon of Dellthrog.

At an early age, for dwarves that is, he decided to leave his homeland and become an adventurer. Long days in caverns mining were not his idea of a fine life with the end being extermination by the Orc’s or other Goblinoids. And so not unlike others of his kind he turned his back on their way of life and left for parts unknown to make a mark for himself in the land.

Moru is a friendly enough fellow and more than willing to join up temporarily with traveling adventurers in search of grand exploits and treasures …if it involves killing orc’s, that’s always a plus. He can be found wearing scale mail armor and armed with a Dwarven waraxe that belonged to his grandfather, a venturing dwarf himself of significant fame.

It has been several years now since he came across the Ranger Elagost lost in the White Mountains. It was there that Moru learned of his people’s fate and he befriended the human. Since that time the two have been inseparable journeying together on many exploits.

As soon as you can put together a character sheet with abilities, 5th level character background and discription do so. This won't be a by the "rules" dice game but sort of a mix, we'll see how it works out. I like the randomness of the dice, you never know what luck will hand you. ;)

But let's have more than a "game", let us write a story, so good roleplay is the order of the day. You can start roleplaying in the main thread while we work out the character sheets here.

Let the story begin! :D

One more thing:
The Ranger is the leader of this rag tag troupe of do-gooders. coldstone is working on his background to this end. You should include in your character's bio how you came to join up with the Ranger.

Elagost ...Ranger

Elagost—a Well Traveled Weather Worn Ranger of the North. Don’t Let The Spring In His Step Fool You, He Is Much Older Than He Appears. The Blood Of The Eldar Runs Almost True In Him. At The Age Of 76 He May Seem Just A Babe To Most Of The Elves But He Is An Ancient To Most Men Of His Time, He Has Not Been Idle These Many Winters, He Has Taken What He Has Learned Of His World And Keeps It Locked Away For Future Use.

There Are Many Secrets Of This World That Have Been Forgotten, He Has Made It His Business To Relearn Them. There Are Many Treasures That Have Been Lost And He Craves To Find Them. In His Weather Worn Cloak Of A Grey Elven Fabric That Was A Gift From A Great King Of An Age Ago, You Would Barely Notice Him As He Passed By But A Closer Look Would Reveal Much More. You May Notice The Boiled Leather Pouldrins And Greaves, Also A Faded Green Tunic Of Leather Such Armor As Only Worn By The Rangers. The Elvin Brooch Around His Neck Of Mithril Silver Would Easily Distinguish Him As An Elf Friend. With His Hood Drawn Up Over His Head And His Right Hand On The Hilt Of A Three- Foot Long Sword, His Other Hand Grasping The Handle Of An Elf Dagger, It Was More The Fire That Burned In His Deep Set Eyes That Might Take A Person Back. His Shaggy Long Dark Hair Hanging Around His Head Did A Good Job Of Covering His One Shame, A Three Inch Long Nasty Scare From A Goblin Of The White Mountains. Though The Goblin Paid With His Life, It Gave Our Ranger Friend A Rather Nasty Look About Him. There Is Only One Last Oddity About Our Friend Here, The Dwarven Black Iron Vambraces On His Wrists He Treasures, These More Than Any Gold Or Mithril.

About The Vambraces, Before His Last Adventure In The Waste Lands Of The Trolls, He Found Himself In The White Mountains. Not That A Ranger Is Ever Lost But Exactly Were He Was He Could Not Say And As Fate Would Have It A Dwarf Happened By His Fire One Night At The Mouth Of A Cave. The Dwarf Made A Perfect Companion Not That The Ale He Brought Hurt Any. It Didn’t Take Many Nights Of Traveling Together For Them To Become Fast Friends. The Dwarf Would Tell Him Stories Of Secret Ways Through The Mountain That Would Lead Them To Untold Treasures. The Ranger In Turn Would Tell Stories Of Ancient Days Of The Might Of Fallen Kingdoms Of Men Or Elven Poetry, The Dwarf Could Not Abide Such Talk And Would Quickly Change The Subject To The Glory Of The Dwarf Realms Of Old.

In This Manner They Wandered About For Many Moons. Then One Day It Happened That They Came Across The Entrance To A Cave. The Ranger Was Leary But The Dwarf Could Not Be Held Back So In They Went To The So Told Long Dark Of Dellthrog. It Was In This Horrid Place That They Came Across A Dragon Hoard With No Dragon And It Was In This Hoard That The Dwarf Came Across The Remnants Of His People, Some Say That Dwarves Have No Feelings But The Ranger Learned Otherwise. The Dwarf Then Bestowed Upon The Ranger These Vambraces That Had Once Belonged To His Brother, Obviously A Victim Of The Dragon. Then What Was Even Worse He Found the Hammer of His Father, We Will Speak No More of This.

Here we go so far....

Character History:
Found near the great southern desert, the town of Kel-Yerina can boast of few things lest of which is Jeriseán Thrólith Kläskosa, an impulsive, impatient, impertinent, and yet at the same time impressive swordsman. Jeriseán’s dreams were coming true when he had the fortune of leaving his home to join the Realms Military Academy. Just as he graduated and secured a promising commission, the world began to transition around him. It wasn’t until he was ordered to attack a settlement, that he was confronted with the evil behind what the Monarchy was becoming. As war broke out across the territories, Jeriseán abandoned his post and ran as far away as he could, once more leaving all he had and knew behind.

Description:
With brown hair and eyes, Jeriseán is lean and wiry. He keeps his hair pulled back in a pony tail most times. Can be seen wearing brown trousers and vest with an off white shirt, over which he wears leather armor. He carries a long sword and a dagger.

Personality:
Jeriseán is a restless soul ruled by his emotions, usually anger or greed topped of with a bit of braggadocio. His presumptuous attitude has equally landed him into trouble as well as paid off in high dividends. JT lives life on the edge, which he says it the only way to know you’re alive, from the time of his youth stealing from vendors in the Kel-Yerina market, to his days as a soldier in the Old Empire’s service; he’s had a touch of recklessness. Jeriseán can be a great friend and ally but equally dangerous if your enemy; JT means to make a name for himself in the territory, even if it kills him.

Recent Events:
After the Great War’s end, Jeriseán wandered on his own for sometime. One day he had the fortune of meeting up with a Ranger who had taken him under his wing in hopes of settling down the disillusioned lad. For sometime now they’ve worked side by side along with a group of others. Still JT struggles with his god given strengths and weaknesses, his old ways proving not to easily shed, much to the Ranger’s chagrin.

If you don't mind I was thinking of using this background for my character.
It would set up that my half-orc is new to town and new to the group. They'll meet up in the tavern. I think it would make great roleplay as they meet.

Here it is... What ya think?
I also have a pic I need to find.

Kuvas Marfu (Half-Orc Barbarian)

http://a1.cpimg.com/image/0F/C6/46169871-3d79-003C005C-.jpg

Kuvas was born is the region known to humans as the “Hazard Hills”, a vast wasteland in the northwest, abandoned except for a few Orcan tribes that call it home. He also had the misfortune to be born a half-orc into the Skullrune Clan, a distinction of bigotry within the tribe. Kuvas tried to fit in, but the fates chose to give him more human features than that of his clansman, thus he found it difficult even among other half-orc’s of his tribe. Though he might have had the features of his human lineage, the strength and blood of his Skullrune fathers pulsed through his veins.

And so he persevered and became a mighty warrior and leader; his tough up bringing molded him into a mean and nasty Orc. Because of his white grayish hair and that he was seen as a blight amongst the tribe, a blight that they could not destroy for the more they tried the stronger he became, those of his clan named him the “White Bane”.

His life all changed one spring day after his father’s death. It was at the “Great Chasm of Oagungad” that he claims to have heard from Obad-Hai the god of nature. He returned to his clan days later to pack his belongings and quickly departed for the human regions. A quest to find meaning for his life outside the struggle to survive within the clans and to prove that not all half-orc’s are evil, that there is good amongst his people.

Kuvas has spent the last few years roaming about the country joining several groups. He has had no contact with family or any member of his clan since his endeavor began. Though at times he has been lonely he has made no close friends as of yet even though his reputation continues to grow and spread.

Around numerous bands he is sought after to join their ranks and he does so willing. Kuvas has collected a fair amount of wealth even though that has not been his aim. All income has been invested into his gear to better serve his employers and so has never purchased land or a home.

Kuvas has worked hard to be friendly and helpful to all other races as hard as it might be at times. He finds it difficult to serve under substandard leadership and so can become confrontational. As he still struggles with his Orcan temper he continues to yield to Obad-Hai for direction and guidance. He has yet to visit any large city for most folks still look upon him with apprehension, but he has not given up hope on his quest. So it is now that he believes is the time to take the next step and so his trail has led him to the city of Phalemor.

As the half-orc entered the gates of the city the guards watched as a large grey and black war horse moved slowly up the road. Its rider covered in black studded leather, a dark cape with silver edging flowed around him as a light breeze blew, his stunning white hair and beard contrasted against his armor. He definitely drew attention from those about the city as his numerous weapons were on full display. But he knew all to well about those that would love to take down his kind just for sport, which being the case he had chosen not to hide his defenses.

name: Oruk the Wise (thats right, a wise ogre monk)
history: oruk was born just a month before a paladin strike force wiped out his family. one of the paladins took oruk and gave him to a monastary. There he learned self discipline and a place among the various other races (which included kobolds, gnomes, drow, and such) despite his rapid growth. Now he is traveling the world to help others that need it. His traveling companion is a pheolarch he saved from a small war party of devils.

Hey turalisj,

First question...What is a pheolarch?
I'm not one for extreme exotic animals and I've never heard of this one so some info would be great. Also, This is a heavy roleplay game, that being said, I'd like to see a more detailed history like the others, kinda of a chance to show case your writing.

"small war party of devils"? Do I dare even to ask?
This would be a good area to cover in your history discription.

Thanks a bunch,

Well to be honest with ya I own no books at this time so I can't look it up.
I'm not really looking for any characters involved with evil. On second thought, perhaps your character idea won't work in this game.

I'm really looking for basic characters, nothing too extreme.

We are not running characters with that high of levels, nothing higher than 5 basicly. Also I don't check links for character info. So if you want an Elf of say 5th level you need to write a history, more than a sentence or two, and post it here or pass this game on by.

***UPDATE***
I decided to forget about character sheets, i.e. abilities, weapons and such, we'll just free form it. I'll role dice depending on situations and actions and then role-play it out.

Remember Gaw's Laws (http://www.animenation.net/forums/printthread.php?t=150084), if your not familiar check the link and read up. But to sum it up...

-No god-modding
-proper grammar
-no auto-hits
-5 sentence minimum (Try if possible, the idea is to role-play your actions not just state them)

made the changes.

Solmund Woodsoul
Elven Sorcerer and Fighter

Solmund Woodsoul hails from the Great Western Forest, the home of the ancient Elvish capital of Calaelen. His family has a long tradition of serving as Sorcerer’s over these past many centuries. Solmund’s great-great-great grandfather still gives instruction in the manner of the old ways and has taught the young Woodsoul how to control his emerging magical powers.

As Solmund aged he continued in the way according to his mentor’s teachings. He also learned to fight with Elvish blades as well as his mind, becoming a true swordsman amongst his people. It was at this time that grandfather gave him a prized family heirloom, a sword imbued with the power of a Gold Dragon.

Solmund continued to master his innate magical powers until he had a minor understanding of it. Traveling to nearly every corner of the known continent, he searched unsuccessfully to find the rumored origins of his grandfather’s power, an old Gold Dragon, power which now lived in the sword he carried.

By the time he was one hundred and ten years of age, he was tasked to take on a tower full of goblins, onlookers who watched the battle spoke of remarkable feats of bravery and skillfulness. After that time he set off to his families’ estate to aid in fighting off a group of half-orc mercenaries. The young Solmund Woodsoul was beginning to make a name for himself, amongst his people and beyond, as word spread of his prowess.

This brings us to today with Solmund on the road to the City of Phalemor. Seeking another challenge he has set off towards the Dancing Badger Inn to seek out some adventure and maybe have an ale or two....

***UPDATE 2***
Okay for those looking to possibly join this game. I am looking for basic characters from the Players Handbook, no Prestige classes. Please write a history/Bio at least 4 to 5 paragraphs long. Included should be a brief description of your characters looks and personality. What is his profession and what he has been doing up until the time he meets the Ranger Elagost.

I want to see your writing abilities, take your time; use Microsoft Word and spell check...you know the drill. This is a story as well as a game.

Thanks,

If ya want in... I need some character bio's to show case your writing and role-playing ability and if your character will fit the story I have in mind.

I'm looking at three spots for now and then possibly some short term characters will/might open up for someone to play in a limited capacity.

turalisj: Sorry, but with regrets your out.

Solmund: Your character as written will not work, I'll give ya one more try to put something together. Look at how the others have worked their characters.

calimay: I have a great role you can play if you want it, I'll PM you the details if you really want to join. But you'll still have to put together a history before I can give you a definitive answer.

Rolemancer: Got your PM, let me see the character written up and then I'll decide, sounds like a good idea though.

Solmund,

I see you made some updates for your character. I need to make myself perfectly clear about what I'm looking for. To start with, no Eberron stuff, no Cerebramancer, and no Dragon. I would love to have an Elf character involved, but just plain Elven, skip the dragon part. You need to put the DnD books down for a minute and think Middle Earth/LOTR type world setting. This will be free form no stats needed, major combat actions will be written as you attempt them in "Role-Play" and I will roll a die to determine outcome. Lesser actions will/can be handled between players before hand through PM's, or if I deem ones actions over stepped an unforseen boundary I'll step in to make chnages.(I know what I'm thinking, just hard to write out my thoughts on this, best read my link on Gaw's Laws)They'll be no super powers or mental "pings" to summon ones long lost uncle. If you can comply with these requests great, if not then I'll have to pass you by on this one.

Thanks,
~Pintel

Phalemor has a dreamer and his name is Thaddeus Krone. The lad dreams of adventure, grand escapades filled with danger and apprehension, wealth and treasures beyond belief. In his free time, which is nominal, he practices swordsmanship with a short sword he purchased in town at Jarno’s Armory, unknown to his folks.

Thaddeus is the youngest of three brothers all of which work with their father in his blacksmith shop and stable located behind the Inn. Though Thad pulls his weight around the shop his thoughts often wander about which hamper his ability to complete his tasks on time. He is often late for supper rushing to finish up his days work leaving him wishing he was still at home with his mother for she was a more lenient teacher than his father.

Thaddeus is a normal sixteen year old boy, a bit gangly, though still physically strong and a know it all. He is a friendly lad often quick to spark up a conversation with new customers. His features are plain and average having short brown hair and brown eyes. His complexion is on the dusky side as he is naturally dark skinned plus the time he spends outdoors working the stable and corral.

Thad can be found most times wearing faded brown breeches with an off white shirt covered with various stains, a light tan vest with a straw hat at times. Being the youngest he still goes about barefoot but does own one pair of leather shoes that he wears only when he accompanies his mother to the temple. He is devoted to his family, but the attraction of leaving is growing stronger day by day, and the final straw is about to be cast upon the camels back.

Picture the seen a destitute village on the edge of the wasteland, and suddenly to there great surprise Lord Galivar for no apparent reason swoops in to save them all. Bringing jobs clearing land to plant fields, and all looks good. But then every once in a while one of the promising young men of the village or women would suddenly disappear. At first no one seems to notice or care because it seems to be a trade off to stop the orc raiders from burning the town once a year.

There is always one in the group that seems to get in trouble more than everybody else. Now this one child had an outstanding ability to not only get in trouble but also get out of it. She had no obvious advantages over any of the other children other than her good looks and an extra share of charm. Her name was Zalania she was taller than her piers and she was exceptionally strong for her size. She was what you would call a real scrapper. As she grew she was constantly testing her strength against the boys in her tribe. Her victories did not go unnoticed.

One day while exploring the cliffs on the edge of the village she was about to climb when everything went black. Next thing she new she was side by side with other people that she had known from the village that had disappeared years earlier. She was being taught swordplay dagger skills and the art of hand-to-hand combat; of course she quickly excelled past her classmates. To the chagrin of her classmates she became her teachers favorite pupil, after only a short time she was given her fist job. She didn’t think of what she did as anything other than a job and a way of getting her out of that stinking village. One mission after another followed by success after success lead her to be thought of as one of the elite of her trade, mercenary. And so here we are a faithful subject of her lord just doing her job.
Zalania is rather a beautiful woman, with long dark hair that she keeps tied back. She has a stern nature, but is not cruel. Zalania is the soul of efficiency and thus makes an excellent leader. She never lets anger of revenge cloud her judgment.

Okay, history looks good.
If you want to make a post in the game as to what the bounty hunters are up to thats fine, i.e. searching the city for the halfling etc. But it will be awhile yet until they meet the others. The other bounty hunters are a human male rogue by the name of Gorr and Jukha, a half-orc fighter. I figure he'll be from a rival tribe of Kuvas' clan, could make for some good future role-play.

i made changes to the background as suggested. though LotR and DnD have some major diffrences, so it was hard to figure out what you meant. i took out the listed abilities of his sword, his uncle (who is actually his great-great-great-grabdfather, a gold ancient dragon) stopping by and giving him advice or scolding him, everything psionic, and re-did some of his history to fit him in. Please note also that the half-orcs who attacked his family wasn't actually evil, they were just being obediant to gruumsh.

I found this little tidbit on another site, perhaps it can help here.
It talks about Freedom Of Destiny
_________________

Okay, lesson time. What is FOD? FOD is Freedom of Destiny, for the most part what separates FFRP from traditonal, D&D-style roleplaying.

Imagine this player scenario:

My character, Acaed, wants to stab Bhryn's character, Bhryn. How do I go about it?

D&D-style:
You tell the DM what you want to do, make a roll, and boom, there you go. Of course, the opponent gets a saving roll, also.

FFRP:
Here's how you'd do it, post by post, or on a forum.
Acaed's Post: Acaed slashes his sword at Bhryn's face.

(Wait, wait, stop right here! Let's look at this closely:
If this was a D&D thread, and assuming I had made good rolls, I could have
written, 'Acaed slashed his sword', which indicates that the blow connected. The way I have written it, though, allows for Freedom of Destiny: The ability to control one's destiny. Let's resume now, shall we?)

Bhryn's Post: Bhryn jumps over the blade, and tries to bring her own sword down on Acaed's head.

(See now? Generous usage of the words 'tried' and 'attempts' are always welcome. FOD is a beautiful thing, eh?)

Acaed's Post: Acaed dodges out from under Bhryn's sword.

(Okay, next thing, characters aren't invincible. This dodging could go on for the whole day, but eventually, someone's gotta give. Your character doesn't have to die, nor has to be mortally wounded. Remember, this is a fantasy world, characters can be healed.)

Bhryn's Post: Bhryn casts a spell and fires it at Acaed.

Acaed's Post: Acaed is hit full-on in the chest by the blast, and is blown to the ground, several feet away. He then gets back up and continues fighting.

Solmund's character history is done; check it out on the first page.
He will be a new member to the group, you have not met as of yet.
The group doesn't know him per say, except for his reputation that precedes him.

Go ahead and enter the game Sol!

If no one has anything else to add in the game thread, then I'm going to move the game along. Just wanted to wait and give people a chance to role-play. So tonight I will post the halfling's entrance. ;)

Thanks,

Looks like we are going to have to shelf this for a bit, bummer since we just started, but a few are dropping out and a few are extremely busy for the next month...so we will take a short hiatus. :twitch:

Thanks,
