Like other REGs, it would be shelved in the History section of bookstores. The primary consultant would be Dayton Duncan: http://www.florentinefilms.com/ffpages/DD.html There'd be two play options: 1) The players would undertake the expedition using the historical Corps of Discovery as PCs and NPC followers and hirelings. OR 2) The players would create and name a Corps of Discovery of their own. There would be daily obstacles and events, and opportunities for diplomacy, foraging, and in some cases, battle. There would be rules for treating the Corps as a skirmish unit. The game would be designed so that it were detailed enough for the entire journey to be completed in a certain number of four hour game sessions. Included in the book would be a physiographic map of Louisiana Territory and Oregon Country, along with a political/tribal map. All of the various physiographic provinces of these lands would be statted out with certain environmental qualities and hazards based on existing d20 wilderness rules. The various Native nations would be delineated according to their location in the years 1804 to 1806. Guidelines would be given on how to judge the attitude of the Natives toward the expedition based on PC actions and skill checks. Also included would be briefer descriptions of bordering lands and peoples of Spanish Mexico and British Canada in case the expedition strayed. Travis |
