| ZaZar09-19-07, 06:30 PM | yea, i know about the french Doom rpg thing, but is there any other material, if not i would like to make it with your help. OK then lets get started here are some older notes i have only recently found, am still looking over them(though skimming over them they seem more along the lines of monster stats but i could be wrong). Find them here (http://forums.gleemax.com/wotc_archive/index.php/t-425670.html) |

| j0lt09-20-07, 01:06 AM | What's wrong with D20 Modern? It has demons and everything in its SRD. Non-lethal damage? :P But seriously, all you need to run a Doom game with d20 Modern is to stat up the Plasma Rifle, BFG, and the monsters. Beyond that, it's just a PC grinding bunch of fun! :D I'd love to see someone make the original Doom Episode 1 maps with a 1-inch grid! Monsters - Possessed Human (weapon) - Imp (fireball, claws) - Pinky/Demon (oversize bite, grab/grapple) - Cacodemon (lighting, bite) *large - Hell Knight (slam, fireball, ram) - Baron of Hell (slam, fireball, ram) *large (advanced Hell Knight) - Lost Soul (bite, fire) *small/tiny - Cyber Demon (rocket launcher, slam, stomp) *huge - Spidermind (chaingun) *huge - Arachnotron (plasma gun) - Spectre – invisible pinky/demon - Revenant (mini rockets, slam) *large? - Mancubus (flame throwers) |
| ZaZar09-20-07, 12:56 PM | What's wrong with D20 Modern? It has demons and everything in its SRD. theirs nothing wrong with it, i just want to do it this way. of coarse the above stats are just some concepts i threw together and may change, but i wanted a more realistic or at least entertaining system, so I'm experimenting. is that so wrong |
| j0lt09-20-07, 01:09 PM | I think the point is: why start designing a whole system from the ground up when there's already a suitable one that only needs tweaking? |
| ZaZar09-20-07, 05:31 PM | well, i wanted to ad the Will aspect to the system and the pain threshold (and possibly the altered imitative and action rules) but i was always going to user the D20 system(kinda). of coarse the magic system going to be unique, class system is good, and most of the battle feats are great, using D20 modern future urban arcane (possibly Cthulhu D20 will See when i get it). Since i don't feel like double posting heres some more concept junk. Classes occult magic user who uses blood and mutilation to preform supernatual Abillites. Battle Fighter class Knowledge medical crafting class Cunning sneaky or social class Occupations scientist marine doctor Technion lab assistant janitor management |
| ZaZar09-22-07, 01:27 AM | heres my magic system, Suggestions? Magic The Darkness(94% not evil) magic is the sacrifice of blood to the darkness(not Satan, but a being greater and more alien then man could ever understand)the darkness is present every were, from the deepest pits of hell to the brightest stars and will give a being great power for its life(in the form of flesh and blood for humans) the Knowledge is rare, all but killed out by the church, but in an era of information the darkness has been re-found. Rituals the most important of companions to the modern occultist is there Sacrificial knife which are chosen for sharpness and accrues(stainless steel scalpels are priceless to an occultist) over ornate and mysterious features (simple and to the point). another common item is the journal or knowledge base containing the symbols of intent, allowing for the user to wield the power of the darkness. Casting a spell(applies only to the Occult class) when a inscription is carved into the flesh, it becomes part of the flesh, meaning a individual can recall a formula that has been written, when a new inscription is carved the old one is lost. Parts of the body. spell area Hand= 12 squares. ^(back)= 3 squares. ^(palm)= 4 squares. ^(fingers)= 1 square each. | mato_hibiki09-22-07, 02:45 AM | A question. What does this have to do with Doom? |
| j0lt09-22-07, 03:02 AM | A question. What does this have to do with Doom? lol, good question! Doom is/has always been about shooting "demons" from outer space in a frantically-paced race for survival. No idea where these magic ideas came from. Furthermore, that's not really a "system" as much as a synopsis of the fluff behind the system. A system involves numbers and mechanics. I'll post some of my ideas once I have some time to stat them out. |
| ZaZar09-23-07, 02:11 PM | A question. What does this have to do with Doom? the game doom showed us a small part of the world it was set in so if we are to create a new story, then its necessary to create what we did not see, and a magic class is one commonly wanted by many players so its logical that we would have to make a magic class with the same "Flavorer" as the given world. Furthermore, that's not really a "system" as much as a synopsis of the fluff behind the system. A system involves numbers and mechanics. on this you are wrong, though all systems are irrefutably mathematical, they all begin with base concepts or "fluff" then the designers through trial and error or debate formulate a mathematical system that allows for some or all of the Beginning concepts. |
| j0lt09-23-07, 09:02 PM | the game doom showed us a small part of the world it was set in so if we are to create a new story, then its necessary to create what we did not see, and a magic class is one commonly wanted by many players so its logical that we would have to make a magic class with the same "Flavorer" as the given world. That's some really unbalanced logic. Let's take the same logic and apply it to another setting of which we are shown only a small part of: Star Wars. If you decided to make a new Star Wars d20 Supplement and add in Wizards because "a magic class is one commonly wanted by many players", people are going to ask if you've ever seen the movies. There's no logic at all. Settings have limits. In a HIGH FANTASY setting, it would be very logical to include some kind of magic class. In a MILITARY/SCI-FI setting it's ridiculous. Quite simply, if you open a Doom d20 Supplement, the one thing you WON'T be looking for is a spellcaster. on this you are wrong, though all systems are irrefutably mathematical, they all begin with base concepts or "fluff" then the designers through trial and error or debate formulate a mathematical system that allows for some or all of the Beginning concepts. That's right, they begin with base concepts. Calling the concept a system isn't really accurate. It makes it look like you don't know what you're doing. If you had called it "Ideas for a magic system", then we'd only be questioning why there's magic being arbitrarily added to an already defined setting. |
| ZaZar09-24-07, 12:14 AM | wow. you have ether misunderstood every thing i have said, or are purposely being spiteful. but keep in mind that 1) the Internet is easily misinterpreted 2)if you chose not to except any thing i have said or am about to say, then you might as well just pass this thread by 3)i am displeased with those who are blatantly rude(try to be More nonchalant about it) and ask every one to kill each other very politely. 4) i wont ever flame anyone. one the star wars universe has adequate systems in place to completely remove the need for a magic system, while Doom is a SCI-FI shooter game based around pseudo-natural occurrences resembling magic, with out actually explaining the mechanics behind those occurrences. therefore its up to a GM to define those rules if they wish to use them, but if others see those as wrong they must come up with a logical alternative from a game point of view. two i have never stated this is completed system, but merely a list of concepts i would like to create a system around. |
| j0lt09-24-07, 02:59 AM | We understand what you're saying, but you seem to be intent on designing an apple and saying "This is an orange!". There is no magic in Doom. There never has been, and there never will. As I stated above: Doom is/has always been about shooting "demons" from outer space in a frantically-paced race for survival. The PCs should be normal-type characters, preferably military, but other options are open. If you want to make it different, that's fine. Just don't call it Doom. When people see the title on this thread, they aren't going to be coming in here wondering "I wonder if I can be a wizard in Doom". They expect the video games to be statted out using the d20 System. Anything else just doesn't fit. |
| Deadlypudding10-02-07, 04:51 PM | Yeah, I don't see the need for magic for the PCs, but I understand the need for magic because there are demons that use it (i.e. Arch Vile, Imp kinda, Hell Knight kinda, and can you really say the soul cube isn't magic or mystical?) |
| j0lt10-02-07, 09:47 PM | Yeah, I don't see the need for magic for the PCs, but I understand the need for magic because there are demons that use it (i.e. Arch Vile, Imp kinda, Hell Knight kinda, and can you really say the soul cube isn't magic or mystical?) You can't really say the Soul Cube was a good idea either. :P IMO, Doom3 fell far short of the bar. I got into gaming from the original Doom, so it's always been a favourite of mine. |
| Deadlypudding10-03-07, 01:07 AM | I gotta agree with you on that one. Though I really enjoyed Doom 3, the soul cube seemed out of place. I would have loved to have seen the Unmaker from Doom 64 in Doom 3 instead of the soul cube. Still the Arch Viles have been specifically described as having magic (even if its just the one attack and a summon/resurrect ability), not to mention those plasma fireballs that Imps and Hell Knights use must come from something. Anyway, I'm not saying he should use magic for his PCs, but he should consider the magical and the mystical when he stats the aforementioned demons. |
| j0lt10-03-07, 09:13 PM | I'd just assign them those attacks in the same way as a dragon has a breath weapon. It's a natural thing for them. |
