| legacyheir05-28-07, 03:15 PM | I realize this was posted before in the anime forum, but that was a while ago, and the new series and games (Roots and G.U. respectively) make it worth a revival. The thing is that there is a double system almost that has to be developed. Mental stats belong to the player, physical to the character. But that might also require a double experience system. The next question is which version- R1 (Sign and the Infection games) or R2 (Roots/G.U.) Now, if we decide to make up a different story line it wouldn't matter as much. Unfortunately, the games work off different class systems- namely, G.U. has more classes. Then, there are data drain, avatar battles, awakenings, etc. My advice would be to work off of an R2-based system, but w/ elements of Infection. Part of the appeal is the Adept Rogue-multiclassing, and the fact that abilities are class-based rather than weapon based, and weapons can be customized. Plus, the Avatar Awakening, from what I've read, is more or less a data drain like technique. But, one could still adapt data bugs, Springs of Myst, and other concepts. So, any advice? |
| Lednera05-29-07, 02:24 PM | well first, I would say fix your sblock :P. I think R2 version shows more potential then R1 and one could use an alternate timeline or a parallel timeline with the main story. This depends on how much of a canon oriented theme you goin for. |
| legacyheir05-29-07, 03:21 PM | Oops :-P Thanks! Yeah, R2 is definitely better. I want there to be the basic themes and elements AIDA, Epitaphs, etc. but we couldn't accurately do that in the canon world unless it was a future version w/ new versions of everyone. A better idea is a loosely canon world. The characters would be parts of a series of Epitaph users created after the G.U. series who are part of a secret project, say, the return (in a larger form) of AIDA, an attempt to replace Aura as the "God" of the World, or something else, or perhaps as a new part of the game- the Avatar system is made a regular part of the game, but without the nasty side effects (i.e. comas), so that it can be used by C.C. Corp. to cover up the AIDA incident as a prototype event. Further opinions? |
| nimbusconflict05-29-07, 06:48 PM | Actually, as a system, you wouldn't need Avatars, AIDA, or any such. The World is an already stated system, with enough variety of classes. I myself have thought of such a project, but i was waiting to get more work done on the kingdom hearts project. However, as stated R1 and R2 had many many differences. the only class to go mostly unchanged was twin-blade. I would also say R2, and if i remeber right, there is already material available for a steam punk setting. try looking into it ^^ |
| legacyheir05-29-07, 09:16 PM | Well, I think we do need to consider something for those concepts... keep it in the flavor of the game. I think R2 is the best idea. Now we have to figure out classes... For the spellcasters, a spell point system will be needed, obviously. A wizard for Shadow Warlock, a cleric for Harvest Cleric, and something else for Danse Macabre. Warriors will be tougher... modified fighter, I guess, with a focus in a particular area (i.e. rather than give feat selection, pre-map the feats for each class). That would leave Adept Rogue... which is a little more difficult, obviously. One idea is to use Szatany's Ultimate Adventurer class at this page: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=691317 I figure it would be the best option. For a reference class combos with the Adept Rogue, go here: http://dothack.wikia.com/wiki/Adept_Rogue. There is a creation guideline for such characters. That leaves the Dual Gunner, but as that's normally a violation of the system, so we can ignore it for now. Now, there is also Awakenings. We have to have something that can mimic that and Rengeki. And while on the topic, special techniques are going to be a concern. Then, the biggest thing is the dual stat system I mentioned in the first post. The character will need to have the physical stats (strength, dex, con.), as well as a set of magic stats (a strength and dexterity for attack and defense, and a magic constitution that would represent resistance to status magic). But the real world character needs to have his/her own mental stats. Intelligence and Charisma definitely. Wisdom- maybe, especially if we use something that can cause comas. Mental skills to some extent, but I'm not sure about feats... |
| Lednera05-30-07, 12:13 AM | i was thinking that The World could use standard D&D system while RL (Real World) scenario use the D20 Modern type system. This would allow for standard Gold to be used in-game and in real life you use the wealth system. I think it would be the simplest way to do it. |
| Aust_dLyrander05-30-07, 03:39 AM | I've found that BESM d20 by Guardians of Order works well for .hack games. |
| legacyheir05-30-07, 10:19 AM | Actually, Lednera, that's brings up a good point that needs addressing... how much of this game would happen in the real world? That would be important to address. My reasons for the entire dual-stat is just b/c the mental stats aren't reflected in the character in the World, but by the communications that his/her player sends through the character. However, we need to figure out how much the real world will come into play. As for BESM, the idea does kinda work... each character would have Special attacks, and certain items can give either magic or dynamic sorcery to the characters who aren't naturally spellcasters... let's consider it. |
| nimbusconflict05-31-07, 06:39 PM | With enough work, besm can do anything. ^^ the problem being just that. expect a lot of work ^^ |
| DarkSamuraiKyo06-26-07, 09:23 PM | Hi saw this and thought I could help..... Well, I think we do need to consider something for those concepts... keep it in the flavor of the game. I think R2 is the best idea. Now we have to figure out classes... For the spellcasters, a spell point system will be needed, obviously. A wizard for Shadow Warlock, a cleric for Harvest Cleric, and something else for Danse Macabre. Might I suggest a bard for the Dance Macabre? Warriors will be tougher... modified fighter, I guess, with a focus in a particular area (i.e. rather than give feat selection, pre-map the feats for each class). Not that hard the Edge Punisher is a Barbarian while the Blade Brandier is a typicalled fighter with feats focusing on a one-handed sword same for the Flick reaper and Lord Partizan but with feats focusing on Scythes and Axes (for the Flick reaper) and Lances (for the Lord Partizan)...... Adept Rouges in D&D will be restricted Multi-class characters remember they have no real weakness nor real strengths....now the creation guideline is something you might want to consider using to keep the Adept Rouge balance...but you will have to find a way for the Adept-Rouge character to take Job Extend quests during the campaign.... That leaves the Dual Gunner, but as that's normally a violation of the system, so we can ignore it for now. I'll say a fighter with the shot feats, weapon focus feats, and Two weapon fighting feats.... Now, there is also Awakenings. We have to have something that can mimic that and Rengeki. And while on the topic, special techniques are going to be a concern. For the Rengeki I suggest once the character has perform a certain number of successful hits without disruption then they can make a Rengeki attack (I consider a automatic Critical) for the Awakenings its a little more tricky since there are different types and conditions to achieve them Then, the biggest thing is the dual stat system I mentioned in the first post. Mental skills to some extent, but I'm not sure about feats... for stats in the World keep the traditional D&D Stats but have Int. Wis. be magic attack and defense since they are the primary casting stats Cha can be used for the Macabre Dancer as for the "real world" character stats I guess D20 Modern fits the bill..... These are just my opinions through so you don't have to listen to me if you don't want to...... |
