| StoneyDM06-20-07, 08:23 PM | Filling DM chair, need help please: Have 1 year to adventure with son before he graduates and leaves for college or Army. We are trying a home game but need to hurry the process to get in more quality time. He is heavily into the video game Dynasty Warriors (ps2) series, wants to copy weapons. Anyone seen? I have read some threads/posts where folks did STATS based on other games ... My question is: has anyone covered these weapons yet, or might someone have time to now please? I can take a stab at it but afraid I'd butcher it. (forgive the pun - i need help) His favorites are: Skyscorcher, Dragonspear, Antiquesword. Think he called them final weapons. (Also, any feat suggestions to match?) THANKS! -Stoney |

Having said that, there is nothing wrong with wanting to make some interesting items for him and "magic-fy" them. Here are just a couple off the top of my head based off of their dynasty warriors incarnation: Blue Dragon +4 Glaive of Shocking burst Skyscraper +5 Keen Flaming Burst Halberd as you can see, it's really nothing TOO special. Just a bonus with some basic enchantments on top. If you really want to get fancy with it, you can throw on other little bonuses like intimidation bonus due to the legends surrounding it. |

Just for a case in point take Guan Yu's guando in the DW game its called Blue Dragon. But this is the info I got off of wikipedia (so take it with a grain of salt). According to Romance of the Three Kingdoms/Chapter 1, the Green Dragon Crescent Blade was said to weigh 82 catties. During the Eastern Han Dynasty and Three Kingdoms periods, one catty was approximately 220 grams, so 82 catties would have been approximately 18.04 kilograms (~39.7782 pounds).[1]. A weapon weighing about 100 pounds purported to be the Green Dragon Crescent Blade is on display at the Purple Cloud Temple in China today. *Cough* I mean come on swinging something like that in battle situations. How many martial weapons do you know of that weigh that much. And this isn't even taking into account any magic it was supposed to have. |
| elliott2011-28-07, 12:37 PM | precisely why it was billed as "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" not "History of the Three Kingdoms". A real Guandao probably weighs no more than 5-6 lbs at most. (And even THAT is pushing it) When doing this for the purpose of a D&D game, certain aspects of the weapon that just don't make sense can be dropped, I think. |
