| Giradius10-20-07, 10:53 PM | Return to castle Wolfenstein, Hellboy, Bloodrayne, The Spear, The Keep, and many others all feature the same basic concepts, that either magic or weird science were part of world war two, Hitler’s secret cabal of sorcerers America's Psionic Spies Secret marvels of technology and magic created by both sides of this conflict. I want to create a setting that uses these elements as I feel the work that has already been done in that area isn’t up to scratch (weird war 2 for example)... Any good ideas or home grown rules and content you have come up with are most welcome. |
| Giradius10-21-07, 12:05 AM | Here are some key ideas I want to ellaborate on... Adolf Hitler was an natural Psionic who used his abilities to survive world war 1, To mass charm the populace (during the rallies), and to survive a bomb blast going off less then 10ft away. The SS was made up of many groups of special operatives who among others contained… Sorcerers (The Thule society was integrated into the SS and provides most of the Third Reich’s Magical backing) Vampires (The SS managed to convince Vlad Tepes Drakula to join them by using the communist Russians hate of the aristocracy to threaten him, he provided blood to turn trusted officers into vampires) Werewolves (The Nazis excavated Viking burial mounds and took samples from ancient warriors thought infected with lycanthropy, refined the samples and created a serum that infests the user with the disease) A flesh golem (Victor Frankenstein’s journal and notebook were recovered from a raid during the annexing of Austria and taken to a research lab and studied, Frankenstein’s original monster leaves his self imposed exile in the frozen wastes of Antarctica when he somehow senses the creation of another of his kind) King Arthur Pendragon the once and future king will make good on his promise to return in Britain’s time of need and is resurrected by Merlin to defend the British isles and defeat the “Saxons” once and for all. In 1895 HG Wells built a time machine and travelled into the future, after his encounter with the Morlocks and the Eloi he resumes his exploration of the history of things to come, he travels to future to find the world in the grip of the Third Reich and after much soul searching decides that he must alter the course of History, after learning advanced science and technology from his travels in time he returns to England just before the war started and after dismantling the time machine (so it can never fall into the wrong hands) offers his help to the government. That’s some of what I have so far, any comments or suggestions? |
| Darth Sephiroth10-21-07, 06:04 PM | There was one interesting animation I'd seen online that had all the sides with giant robots. (HERE (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/56287.html?id=56287)). |
| Giradius10-21-07, 09:36 PM | That animation is the kind of thing i am talking about, Robotics, Primitive (but powerful) computer technology, even cybernetics. The race to create super soldiers was conducted by both sides of the conflict , Both sides experimenting with genetic manipulation, both attempting to meld man and machine. The race was also on to create new super weopons, not just personal weopon such as improved machine guns and EM railguns, but strategic weopons such as the atomic bomb, Orbital lasers, even weather changing machines. The realms of mad science yeild many possibilities. |

Brilliant Idea, Though the truth of the matter is that Germany was working on some kind of Super Soldier. Supposedly he could fly and lift an entire tank. As of Psychics, America also used them during the cold war. |

That’s some of what I have so far, any comments or suggestions? Oh. You're good. How about Juan Peron's Argentina joins the side of the Axis...mounted on Dinosaurs acquired from the South American plateau in the original Lost World! Navajo code-talkers perform a ghost dance that allows not only the transmission of messages...but squads of fully-armed soldiers for instantaneous island-hopping! V3 mega-cannon fires radioactive spell components over the British Isles, opening mystical gateways to the realms of the Unseelie Court and the Fomorians, wreaking havoc across the area. In response, similar explosion-triggered portals are opened elsewhere to realms like Muspelheim or Niflheim over Germany and Norway. |
| Giradius11-02-07, 11:07 PM | Some good ideas there, I like the inclusion of The Lost World. I had the idea that the combat based character would use a talent tree system like in D20 modern, that way a wide number of talent trees can be made available to really customize the character, you can have a talent tree for powered armour and experimental weapons, one for tactics and military command, another for black ops etc. I will have to compile a list of possible classes and prestige classes, I have been working on a magic system based on real world occult traditions for use with all kinds of games and I think it could be useful here. I also had an idea for a scenario involving the SS barricading and guarding a Jewish ghetto with much more force than needed and sending desperate messages to HQ asking for special reinforcements, its not an allied army approaching they fear or even an enemy special operative ,but something inside the ghetto. Inside an aged Rabbi is moved to action by the plight of his people and uses the mystical Kabbalah to create and animate a Golem, this magical colossus is fortified and strengthened by the Rabbis spells and is causing the Nazi occupiers A LOT of trouble. |
| Tema6911-07-07, 01:43 PM | I've created a variant d20 system/setting for World War two (see my signature). Additionally, I'm working on a WW2 d20 Lost War project which, I think is basically what you guys are looking for. If can e-mail it to you if you want, or post it here. It includes super soldiers, heavy assault suits, power armor, mechas, heliplanes (variant gyrocopter), zeppelins, huge landcruisers (e.g. P1000 Ratte), mutant combat dogs and more... |
| Giradius11-07-07, 02:39 PM | That sounds exactly what we are talking about... I would love a copy emailed to me, as you seem to have hit the technological nail right on the head in terms of flavour and style, have you done any work on the occult supernatural side? or does that element not interest you? I myself feel the occult element to be a vital part of the setting (especially so for the Nazi's as this has a basis in historical fact). One question though, Are we assuming this is all happening on a parallel Earth or are we content to let it dwell in fantasy?, I am asking because if we chose to take it through the parallel Earth route we can take a few liberties with established historical fact (maybe the beer hall putsch was successful advancing the time span in which the Nazi's seized power?) I will hopefully finish something usable and be able to post soon if work and studies don’t prevent this. |
| Tema6911-07-07, 04:21 PM | I have mailed it to you, Giradius. In the setting I'm working on, at least in the core WW2 D20 Project, the action strictly follows the course of the war. In the Lost War expansion, it's up to the GM to decide whether fantasy elements have been around forever, or awakened by something. I looked at the CG Robot video and I must say I loved it. I should include some sort of AI BattleRobot in my LW Exp. I plan to include more occult stuff, like Norse Mythology (being a Scandinavian it comes pretty easily to me), Christian artifacts (like the spear of Longinus), Greek/Roman stuff (like the Caesarian Daggers), etc. However, all the occult stuff like vampires, undead, etc will go in another Exp., called WW2 D20 Dread Project. |
| ArgulFraster11-11-07, 06:31 PM | Send it to me, please-and stick some armor and machineguns on the golem! Let's go full Tenga Toppa Gurren Lagaan here! And what about some Nazi Daleks? Doesn't make much sense...but seeing a swastika on those things sounds scary. |
| Tema6911-12-07, 04:38 PM | I've sent a mail to you with it. |
| Tema6911-15-07, 09:16 AM | Alright. I made some illustrations for the WW2 d20 Project. A Vampire Hunter: http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc38/Tema69/Priest2.jpg An Engineer: http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc38/Tema69/engineer2.jpg And a Rifleman: http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc38/Tema69/Rifleman2.jpg |
| Giradius11-16-07, 10:48 AM | Love those illustrations, (Especially the vampire hunter). I have been working on my Incantrix class (not 100% sure on the name but its a working title)I am not sure this class will be suitable for this project as it is a magic user that uses the same mechanics as a Warlock but with a more "Wizardly" theme. However I have had a couple of Ideas for classes and roughly how they can be created, The Artefact hunter is based on a sort of Indiana Jones figure (an adventuring academic who acquires relics and artefacts either in the service of the Reich or of the Allied forced), they would have some good tracking type skills, Knowledge skills and Use magical device as class skills, also a few leadership type skills to reflect the number of contacts they may have and the other members of the expedition. The other idea I had was for a class that I am calling so far (Mythical Figure), This is the class that characters such as King Arthur (maybe even Vlad Drakul will have a few levels of it), It will function in a similar way to the favoured soul in that it will be a divine magic user that casts spells or uses abilities spontaneously, however there will be no broad divine spell list and the character is limited to spells and abilities found only within their "Mythical spheres" which are modified divine spheres. Another thing about the class is that they will change throughout the class and eventually gain either the Celestial , Fiendish , Undead or Undying subtypes. They chose 3 spheres 1 of which must either be related to their alignment or subtype and 2 others, (for example Arthur would have "Wielder" or maybe "Bearer" which is a sphere based around the character possessing some powerful artefact and increases this objects power, "Warrior" which is a cross between war and strength , and "Immortal" probably a combination of luck and healing that can only be used on himself). I will post these as soon as I have given them a bit more substance. |
| Tema6911-17-07, 07:08 AM | Thanks for the comments on the drawings :) Sounds cool. Do you mind if I have a try at the Artefact Hunter? What about making a class like the Shadow Hunter from d20 Modern? Basically a vampire/undead/werewolf/monster-hunter. With abilities like Favored Enemy and such. What do you think of that? |
| Giradius11-18-07, 10:12 PM | Hello again, By all means have a crack at the artefact hunter, but do remember to give sufficient attention to the academic side of this class (I actually saw this character as more like Indiana Jones’s father than Indiana Jones himself), So they will need high skill ranks and abilities that allow them to identify and use magic items (so Use magic device should be a class skill, and maybe they make a knowledge artefact roll and can cast identify), also some good social/leadership type abilities, look at Jones Egyptian friend, Shortround etc and the Tribal savages that Baloch uses at the beginning of lost ark and also the Tibetan thugs that the Nazi artefact hunter (the one who gets the headpiece amulet burned onto his palm). |
| Tema6911-19-07, 06:17 PM | Alright; Focused on these skills: Decipher Script, Knowledge (arcane lore; behavioral science, earth and life science, history, and theology & philo), UMD. Abilities: Contacts: The artifact hunter has a chance of knowing someone in a particular location based on the size of the city (hmm.. gotta make a table for this). Temporary Leadership: Once per week, an artifact hunter can make a diplomacy check (gotta make another table here) to convince/bluff potential "followers" or "cohorts" into believing that the hunter's cause is just/or tell them he'll pay 'em later. If this succeeds, the persons act like followers/cohort until the task is completed (needs a third table here). Identify: By making a special roll equal to the class level + ranks in related Knowledge field, the hunter may identify a magic item (needs a table). Some stuff like this? I'm gonna be a bit busy, but I'll have a try when I can. |
| Giradius11-21-07, 07:20 PM | Excellent. Focused on these skills: Decipher Script, Knowledge (arcane lore; behavioural science, earth and life science, history, and theology & philo), UMD. perfect selection although I would also add languages (or ancient languages), also as most archaeologists and historians tend to specialise in a particular culture the history skill should also be specialised (but for simplicity and to allow for ignorance of real world history and ancient cultures, make history choices by continent, this will also work for Geography ,religion and ancient languages (which would require a skill roll to use as most are dead languages), this reflects the fact that an Egyptologist may know on sight the fabled sceptre of Ra and might speak Arabic and 3rd dynasty Egyptian, may know the location of Sobek’s greatest temple but at the same time be utterly baffled by a 9th century Scandinavian sword, have no idea of the final resting place of Leif Eriksson or not understand an Icelandic rune stone. with that said dropping the earth and life sciences gives the character more skill ranks to spend on these skills as this more of a highly educated (or very knowledgeable) antiquarian / historian based character, the standard history skill is ok for standard high school or even college history but for the in depth knowledge of this class it requires specialisation. Abilities: Contacts: The artefact hunter has a chance of knowing someone in a particular location based on the size of the city (hmm.. gotta make a table for this). Temporary Leadership: Once per week, an artefact hunter can make a diplomacy check (gotta make another table here) to convince/bluff potential "followers" or "cohorts" into believing that the hunter's cause is just/or tell them he'll pay 'em later. If this succeeds, the persons act like followers/cohort until the task is completed (needs a third table here). Identify: By making a special roll equal to the class level + ranks in related Knowledge field, the hunter may identify a magic item (needs a table). Perfect, perfect, perfect and perfect, I especially like the temporary leadership. If you add to this a higher synergy bonus to standard history, religion etc rolls perhaps equal to intelligence bonus this reflects the characters extended knowledge and interest in most forms of history. I am reading up on deconstructing classes and so therefore monsters so I can finally create a "monsterclass" which would work like in savage species but smoother and less broken. |
