EDIT 2: Changed the title. Put how-to-do on Post #7.
From the creator of 'Fed-up DM and a powergamer' comes... HEIST! Get the artifact! This is retrieved from an msn convo with my DM about our upcoming ECL 16 adventure.

Edit: If this is too hard to read, use Fwib's abridged sblock, kthx.

(7:00 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
What can you tell me about the ECL 16 campaign? Who's the bad guy, what would our PC's know, what's the adventure hook, etc.?
(7:04 PM) Jon:
The PC's have been hired/drafted to infultrate a tower at the center of a country hell bent on taking over the continent. your goal will be to secure or destroy the artifact at the top of the tower that is the source of the magical power in the country.
(7:04 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Teleport? Fly?
(7:05 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Reward? How much depends on securing or destroying it?
(7:09 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Eh?
(7:09 PM) Jon:
the artifact pulls anyone who teleports through the elemtal plane of Lightning making ALL interplaner movement imposible in the artifacts efect radius. as for flying any one moving past the boarder without going through a gard station is killed within a day. the reward depends on why your doing this (ie for king and courntry, for profit, to get the artifact for your self or your leader)
(7:10 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Enlighten me quikc, what is it to draft?
(7:10 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
And if teleporting is instantaneous, wouldn't the effects of the Plane of... well, electricity basically, be nothing?
(7:11 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
What if one min/maxed finding every possible way to increase reach to grab the item? I guess the item is in the middle of a country, so that's out of question other than by Pun-Pun.
(7:12 PM) Jon:
to be forced to serve in the army of your country.
(7:13 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Also, assuming the guards noticing you if you fly over theborder is without question, what if one Arcane Trickster flew in on the fastest possible mount, used Ranged Legerdemain of some sort, assuming the surrounding is small, and high-tailed it out of there.
(7:13 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
So, if I were doing this for profit, who'd be paying?
(7:13 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
I like detail. =)
(7:17 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
So, to deter ranged legerdemain, I could also assume the artifact was surrounded by hundreds or so, feet of tough strength material.
(7:18 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
I wonder if it were possible to use Astral Projection, or Gate to sneak into the room.
(7:18 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Or as well, we could assume others before us have already attempted such feats.
(7:20 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Teleport + some spell that grants immunity to electric damage, or that Shambling Mound/Zeugalak thing to get into the room and actually GAIN power by going into the elemental plane of lightning (I'm guessing it has limitless currents of electricity coursing through every square inch of it, yes?)
(7:20 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Although, if that plane did exist outside of this adventure, Zeugalak/Shambling Mound combos of cheapness would have already thought of it. But they seem to be using some electrical attack and whacking themselves repeatedly instead.
(7:21 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Assuming me to believe, it doesn't exist outside of the adventure.
(7:22 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
You'll expect me to try and find a spell that would teleport items. I'm sure one exists, it sounds simple.
(7:22 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Of course, it's within your power as a DM to disallow it.
(7:23 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
And I couldn't just cast Antimagic Field and fly in on a griffon.
(7:24 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Or advise everyone to leave a 30 km radius so I may cast Energy Admixtured Explosive Widened Empowered Maximized Born of Three Thunders or whatever, Apocalypse from the Sky to destroy all who protect the artifact.
(7:25 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Or a Sphere of Annihilation to wipe from existence, the walls that covet the artifact, as we fly in on our Tenser's Floating Disks, slowly waiting as the Sphere neatly creates a tunnel through the walls.
(7:40 PM) Jon:
ok to answer your question in order: a king, nobel, guild leader, person from shadowy organization; yes the tower is made of a very thick material and the point at the top can shoot lighting bolts; ALL inter planar travle is diverted to the elemental plane of lightning; might work but first you would need to find someone able to said spell, or capture/train that Shambling Mound/Zeugalak.
(7:43 PM) Jon:
And your right about the elemental plane of lightning in both efect and existance; finding a spell like that might work but only if you have someone able to cast it (it would be very high level); might work except for the large number of non-magic ranged weapons; that might work except I don't think you're high enough level to cast somthing like that
(7:44 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
My questions in order were: Who's the bad guy, how big is the reward, does it matter if we secure it or destroy it, instantaneous travel = going through the plane of lightning wouldn't have any effect since you wouldn't materialize, who's paying, astral projection/gate?, teleport+immunity to electricity, mind controlling a shamblingmound/zeugalak and teleporting him in/out, fly+antimagic field, a
(7:44 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
pocalypse from the sky, Sphere of annihilation. Recap for myself.
(7:45 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Non-magic rangers would have to be extremely accurate if this tower is very tall, if not, there's most likely, a spell to deflect arrows from level 8 and lower, pshawf.
(7:46 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Entropic Warding, I think is the name.
(7:46 PM) Jon:
I started by answering the question: whos paying? oh and for the final method their are people in the tower including a very powerfull wizard who is weilding the artifact
(7:47 PM) Jon:
antimagic + spells= doesn't work, keep trying though this is very interesting
(7:47 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Sphere of Annihilation, I don't know how hard it is to dispel, for the powerful Wizard. Dust of Sneezing & Choking would solve the 'person wielding it' problem.
(7:47 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Antimagic + Gryphon I said.
(7:47 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Antimagic Torc, item, 25k. I activate it when I need to, deactivaet it when I don't. Like 3 uses a day or sunfin like that I think. I forget what book.
(7:50 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
If there's one thing D&D can screw up, is someone trying to defend something. Scrying + Teleport/Gate + ANtimagic field/Sphere of Annihilation/Ranged Legerdemain + Dust of Sneezing and Choking + Shambling Mound/Zeugalak pets with nigh-infinite constitution + Nuclear Apocalypse from the Sky + Greater Invisibility are really... you know.
(7:51 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
And there is mind-switching your loyal friend with a Tarrasque and seeing how far he goes.
(7:51 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
And there's nanobots.
(7:51 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
And the Hulking Hurler smashing the tower to pieces.
(7:52 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
And a Djinn granting your wish of having that artifact in your hand without any malicious effect coming after or during the time you receive it.
(7:52 PM) Jon:
remeber you're only level 16
(7:52 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
level 9 spells can be bought.
(7:52 PM) Jon:
true enough
(7:53 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
And unoptimized level 20 wizards can be pwned by minmax'd Beguilers. Minmax'd in the area of Will save.
(7:53 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Especially if it's a part of 4 or more going down on a single level 20 wizard. So we coulduse his spells.
(7:53 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
And if he doesn't have the spells required, we buy the spells to put into his spell book. And this is assuming we're not lawful, lol.
(7:58 PM) Jon:
you can be what ever the hell you want just as long as it's legal
(7:58 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
It's not about being, it's about doing.
(7:58 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
And if what I'm doing is what my party doesn't like.
(7:59 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Which happens to be having a level 20 wizard as my pet.
(7:59 PM) Jon:
how?
(7:59 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Well, I'm not that cruel, after he helps with the spells for the greater good, I'd release him.
(7:59 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
I just told you, mind switching him or getting Jake to 'beguile' him. Unless Jake hasn't maxed his DC's.
(8:00 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Assuming Jake helps.
(8:01 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Otherwise, Dust of Sneezing & Choking > Antimagic field/Tying him up > Mind switch. Otherwise, BUY the spells from him.
(8:01 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
I realise, the tying up part could have the Wizard with the still spell feat, but I'm sure I could work something from there.
(8:01 PM) Jon:
you're also asuming a group of level 16 character's can out smart a level twenty, but buying would work
(8:01 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Outsmart, this is assuming the level 20 Wizard doesn't expect anything.
(8:01 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
And that there are level 20 Wizards in an ECL 16 campaign.
(8:02 PM) Jon:
yeah you would have to find one first
(8:02 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
When you don't expect anything, there's not much you can do to protect from magic. Teleporting is oh so intrusive. I don't see anything other than Contingent or Retributive Spell coming to aid.
(8:03 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Locate Person, level 20 wizard? We could spend all our time before infiltrating the tower locating one. We have all the time in the world, unless you happen to mention them using the artifact to obliterate our... I don't know the name. Hirer? EMployer, that's it.
(8:03 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Detect Magic, find extreme magical auras.
(8:03 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
It's a level 0 spell, we have enough uses for it. Hire a Warlock, second level., he can use it all day long.
(8:04 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
After finding that there is none excpet maybe the one in the tower, I'll find another way.
(8:04 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
This is assuming we need him for the level 9th spells: (I am checking right now)
(8:06 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Dominate Monster (for the Tarrasque), Gate, Astral Projection and Wish.
(8:06 PM) Jon:
spell resistance
(8:07 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Dominate Monster was unlikely, Gate is so we don't have to go through the Elemental Plane (Lightning) and Wish can be replaced by Candle of Invocation (Noble Djinn)
(8:07 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
When I read the mind-switching with Tarrasque thread, I don't think they used Dominate Monster. It was some spell that made it really docile and/or dumb.
(8:07 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
So it would purposefully fail its will save against mind switch.
(8:09 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
I've just read Astral Projection, it wouldn't've been useful, I believe.
(8:09 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Might've used Time Stop...
(8:10 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Or we could do a really fawking huge Bluff check to make a Great Wyrm Gold Dragon believe that this artifact was so powerful, it threatened his existence and... horde that it was almost obligatory for him to destroy it.
(8:10 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
or LARP that situation.
(8:11 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Really onyl would've used Gate in my theoretical stratagems at getting to the Artifact.
(8:11 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
As a level nine spell.
(8:11 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Maybe Sphere of Annihilation is level 9, I dunno.
(8:12 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Of course, I wouldn't attempt any of these stratagems myself, we send a loyal (mind controlled or other) employee through to get the artifact.
(8:13 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Oh, I imagine the look on the 'powerful' Wizard's face as a Gate'd or Teleported but electricity immune Commoner comes in out of nowhere, says 'I'm supposed to throw this on you now.' Hurls the DoSC in the Wizard's face, walks up to him, easily nabs the artifact, and walks back out with a contingent or some sort, Teleport.
(8:15 PM) Jon:
do you know what the artifact looks like?
(8:15 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Of course, we'd enhance him with some spells to make sure he throws the area covering DoSC onto the flat-footed Wizard without miss chance. Or make sure he's a fighter with tons of Dexterity of some sort.
(8:15 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
No. I still need to flesh out certain things like that.
(8:16 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Detect magic, extreme aura emanating from the grain of sand magically attached to the Wizard's forehead. Cool form for an artifact.
(8:17 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
This is sort of biased towards what I've read from the Bartimaeus trilogy where the artifact was Gladstone's Staff. Someone must have seen the artifact at least once to know it's truly an artifact at use to conquer.
(8:18 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
What's this? The artifact is actually a living creature? Good thing I supplied the commoner with extra DoSC's just in case, and supplied him with a spell that fends off the first attack, if the living creature tries to defend itself from the helpless looking commoner.
(8:18 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Here, use this greater floating disk to easily carry the object along with you.
(8:19 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Perhaps we may scry, if they don't have scrying protection.
(8:19 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
If they do, send a mind-controlled familiar or brain-linked creature that could scout the grounds for us.
(8:20 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Mind-controlled familiar as in, low level wizard we mind-controlled so his familiar would do this for us.
(8:21 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Of course, that sent creatuer would have electric immunity as well.
(8:21 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Or be coated in rubber...
(8:22 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Ooh, I like Xykon's idea. Bouncy Ball (3 gp, Dungeonscape) + Insanity Rune, good area clearer.
(8:22 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Or spend maybe 3 days before hand stacking up some explosive runes and send them at the artifact.
(8:22 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Boom!
(8:22 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
I'll think on how to teleport the runes there.
(8:23 PM) Jon:
ok the only reason they know its an artifact is because its efect range is the size of a country and it effects other peoples magic, they do have scrying protection
(8:23 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
How does it affect others' magic.
(8:24 PM) Jon:
the whole redirected through another plane thing
(8:25 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Save money! Use Tleilaxu_Ghola's save game mechanic so we don't spend too much money on each one.
(8:25 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
I don't know if our memories come back with that.
(8:25 PM) Jon:
save game mechanich?
(8:25 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
It only effects teleports?

I cast Gate. Hey, I wanted the plane of light, not electricity! <-Like that?

yup

(8:33 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
And you only need a level 3 Psion to do the dirty trick.

It's such a Dirty trick, but what dirty trick isn't?

15 XP lost on the Psion. I dunno how much a level 3 psion costs.
(8:35 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
But technically, I could do every strategem for the cost of a level 3 Psion.
(8:36 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Well, what if I went onto a different plane of existence, such as the plane of holy light or whatever, first then teleported into the area of the artifact?
(8:37 PM) Jon:
it could work but you will have to try it to find out
(8:37 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Try it with a level 1 commoner.

Actually, you can do dirty trick 5 for, I believe an indefinite amount of time.

Quintessence (shaper) + Astral Seed (also Shaper) For the win

Have your psicrystal delay thier turn (or ready an action). Take your turn to drop him in a quintessence vat. If you die you can use your little ectoplasmic legs to scrape off the quintessence, the crystal seeing another crystal immediately resets

Refresh the astral seed and the psicrystal every so often.

Like, obviously works due to D&D screwing it up with its screwed up mechanics (e.g. Pun-Pun.).
(8:45 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:
Haha! This would be odd if I did this trick as soon as possible with the money available to hire a Psion 3 to do this and once it were activated when I died. I'd be playing a low level while you guys were still playing there.
(8:45 PM) Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:

The real question for dirty trick 5 is, how would your psi crystal be safe once it popped out of the time stream hours later, can mind-link work to inform the status (physical) of either the psicrystal and its master?

If we are killed within a day, we could still fly in and out at fast speeds. As well, If we gate from another plane into the area of the artifact, we'd still see the artifact, technically it's magical effects don't reach the plane we're on, I believe.

Could you edit the post and replace all instances of "Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:" with "Micheal"? It would make it a lot less painful to read. (It's probably still going to be a huge block of text with no incentive to read, but a least I could skim it and figure that out)

Could you edit the post and replace all instances of "Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante...:" with "Micheal"? It would make it a lot less painful to read. (It's probably still going to be a huge block of text with no incentive to read, but a least I could skim it and figure that out)Here, I searched-and-replaced it for you:
(7:00 PM) Michael: What can you tell me about the ECL 16 campaign? Who's the bad guy, what would our PC's know, what's the adventure hook, etc.?
(7:04 PM) Jon: The PC's have been hired/drafted to infultrate a tower at the center of a country hell bent on taking over the continent. your goal will be to secure or destroy the artifact at the top of the tower that is the source of the magical power in the country.
(7:04 PM) Michael: Teleport? Fly?
(7:05 PM) Michael: Reward? How much depends on securing or destroying it?
(7:09 PM) Michael: Eh?
(7:09 PM) Jon: the artifact pulls anyone who teleports through the elemtal plane of Lightning making ALL interplaner movement imposible in the artifacts efect radius. as for flying any one moving past the boarder without going through a gard station is killed within a day. the reward depends on why your doing this (ie for king and courntry, for profit, to get the artifact for your self or your leader)
(7:10 PM) Michael: Enlighten me quikc, what is it to draft?
(7:10 PM) Michael: And if teleporting is instantaneous, wouldn't the effects of the Plane of... well, electricity basically, be nothing?
(7:11 PM) Michael: What if one min/maxed finding every possible way to increase reach to grab the item? I guess the item is in the middle of a country, so that's out of question other than by Pun-Pun.
(7:12 PM) Jon: to be forced to serve in the army of your country.
(7:13 PM) Michael: Also, assuming the guards noticing you if you fly over theborder is without question, what if one Arcane Trickster flew in on the fastest possible mount, used Ranged Legerdemain of some sort, assuming the surrounding is small, and high-tailed it out of there.
(7:13 PM) Michael: So, if I were doing this for profit, who'd be paying?
(7:13 PM) Michael: I like detail. =)
(7:17 PM) Michael: So, to deter ranged legerdemain, I could also assume the artifact was surrounded by hundreds or so, feet of tough strength material.
(7:18 PM) Michael: I wonder if it were possible to use Astral Projection, or Gate to sneak into the room.
(7:18 PM) Michael: Or as well, we could assume others before us have already attempted such feats.
(7:20 PM) Michael: Teleport + some spell that grants immunity to electric damage, or that Shambling Mound/Zeugalak thing to get into the room and actually GAIN power by going into the elemental plane of lightning (I'm guessing it has limitless currents of electricity coursing through every square inch of it, yes?)
(7:20 PM) Michael: Although, if that plane did exist outside of this adventure, Zeugalak/Shambling Mound combos of cheapness would have already thought of it. But they seem to be using some electrical attack and whacking themselves repeatedly instead.
(7:21 PM) Michael: Assuming me to believe, it doesn't exist outside of the adventure.
(7:22 PM) Michael: You'll expect me to try and find a spell that would teleport items. I'm sure one exists, it sounds simple.
(7:22 PM) Michael: Of course, it's within your power as a DM to disallow it.
(7:23 PM) Michael: And I couldn't just cast Antimagic Field and fly in on a griffon.
(7:24 PM) Michael: Or advise everyone to leave a 30 km radius so I may cast Energy Admixtured Explosive Widened Empowered Maximized Born of Three Thunders or whatever, Apocalypse from the Sky to destroy all who protect the artifact.
(7:25 PM) Michael: Or a Sphere of Annihilation to wipe from existence, the walls that covet the artifact, as we fly in on our Tenser's Floating Disks, slowly waiting as the Sphere neatly creates a tunnel through the walls.
(7:40 PM) Jon: ok to answer your question in order: a king, nobel, guild leader, person from shadowy organization; yes the tower is made of a very thick material and the point at the top can shoot lighting bolts; ALL inter planar travle is diverted to the elemental plane of lightning; might work but first you would need to find someone able to said spell, or capture/train that Shambling Mound/Zeugalak.
(7:43 PM) Jon: And your right about the elemental plane of lightning in both efect and existance; finding a spell like that might work but only if you have someone able to cast it (it would be very high level); might work except for the large number of non-magic ranged weapons; that might work except I don't think you're high enough level to cast somthing like that
(7:44 PM) Michael: My questions in order were: Who's the bad guy, how big is the reward, does it matter if we secure it or destroy it, instantaneous travel = going through the plane of lightning wouldn't have any effect since you wouldn't materialize, who's paying, astral projection/gate?, teleport+immunity to electricity, mind controlling a shamblingmound/zeugalak and teleporting him in/out, fly+antimagic field, a
(7:44 PM) Michael: pocalypse from the sky, Sphere of annihilation. Recap for myself.
(7:45 PM) Michael: Non-magic rangers would have to be extremely accurate if this tower is very tall, if not, there's most likely, a spell to deflect arrows from level 8 and lower, pshawf.
(7:46 PM) Michael: Entropic Warding, I think is the name.
(7:46 PM) Jon: I started by answering the question: whos paying? oh and for the final method their are people in the tower including a very powerfull wizard who is weilding the artifact
(7:47 PM) Jon: antimagic + spells= doesn't work, keep trying though this is very interesting
(7:47 PM) Michael: Sphere of Annihilation, I don't know how hard it is to dispel, for the powerful Wizard. Dust of Sneezing & Choking would solve the 'person wielding it' problem.
(7:47 PM) Michael: Antimagic + Gryphon I said.
(7:47 PM) Michael: Antimagic Torc, item, 25k. I activate it when I need to, deactivaet it when I don't. Like 3 uses a day or sunfin like that I think. I forget what book.
(7:50 PM) Michael: If there's one thing D&D can screw up, is someone trying to defend something. Scrying + Teleport/Gate + ANtimagic field/Sphere of Annihilation/Ranged Legerdemain + Dust of Sneezing and Choking + Shambling Mound/Zeugalak pets with nigh-infinite constitution + Nuclear Apocalypse from the Sky + Greater Invisibility are really... you know.
(7:51 PM) Michael: And there is mind-switching your loyal friend with a Tarrasque and seeing how far he goes.
(7:51 PM) Michael: And there's nanobots.
(7:51 PM) Michael: And the Hulking Hurler smashing the tower to pieces.
(7:52 PM) Michael: And a Djinn granting your wish of having that artifact in your hand without any malicious effect coming after or during the time you receive it.
(7:52 PM) Jon: remeber you're only level 16
(7:52 PM) Michael: level 9 spells can be bought.
(7:52 PM) Jon: true enough
(7:53 PM) Michael: And unoptimized level 20 wizards can be pwned by minmax'd Beguilers. Minmax'd in the area of Will save.
(7:53 PM) Michael: Especially if it's a part of 4 or more going down on a single level 20 wizard. So we coulduse his spells.
(7:53 PM) Michael: And if he doesn't have the spells required, we buy the spells to put into his spell book. And this is assuming we're not lawful, lol.
(7:58 PM) Jon: you can be what ever the hell you want just as long as it's legal
(7:58 PM) Michael: It's not about being, it's about doing.
(7:58 PM) Michael: And if what I'm doing is what my party doesn't like.
(7:59 PM) Michael: Which happens to be having a level 20 wizard as my pet.
(7:59 PM) Jon: how?
(7:59 PM) Michael: Well, I'm not that cruel, after he helps with the spells for the greater good, I'd release him.
(7:59 PM) Michael: I just told you, mind switching him or getting Jake to 'beguile' him. Unless Jake hasn't maxed his DC's.
(8:00 PM) Michael: Assuming Jake helps.
(8:01 PM) Michael: Otherwise, Dust of Sneezing & Choking > Antimagic field/Tying him up > Mind switch. Otherwise, BUY the spells from him.
(8:01 PM) Michael: I realise, the tying up part could have the Wizard with the still spell feat, but I'm sure I could work something from there.
(8:01 PM) Jon: you're also asuming a group of level 16 character's can out smart a level twenty, but buying would work
(8:01 PM) Michael: Outsmart, this is assuming the level 20 Wizard doesn't expect anything.
(8:01 PM) Michael: And that there are level 20 Wizards in an ECL 16 campaign.
(8:02 PM) Jon: yeah you would have to find one first
(8:02 PM) Michael: When you don't expect anything, there's not much you can do to protect from magic. Teleporting is oh so intrusive. I don't see anything other than Contingent or Retributive Spell coming to aid.
(8:03 PM) Michael: Locate Person, level 20 wizard? We could spend all our time before infiltrating the tower locating one. We have all the time in the world, unless you happen to mention them using the artifact to obliterate our... I don't know the name. Hirer? EMployer, that's it.
(8:03 PM) Michael: Detect Magic, find extreme magical auras.
(8:03 PM) Michael: It's a level 0 spell, we have enough uses for it. Hire a Warlock, second level., he can use it all day long.
(8:04 PM) Michael: After finding that there is none excpet maybe the one in the tower, I'll find another way.
(8:04 PM) Michael: This is assuming we need him for the level 9th spells: (I am checking right now)
(8:06 PM) Michael: Dominate Monster (for the Tarrasque), Gate, Astral Projection and Wish.
(8:06 PM) Jon: spell resistance
(8:07 PM) Michael: Dominate Monster was unlikely, Gate is so we don't have to go through the Elemental Plane (Lightning) and Wish can be replaced by Candle of Invocation (Noble Djinn)
(8:07 PM) Michael: When I read the mind-switching with Tarrasque thread, I don't think they used Dominate Monster. It was some spell that made it really docile and/or dumb.
(8:07 PM) Michael: So it would purposefully fail its will save against mind switch.
(8:09 PM) Michael: I've just read Astral Projection, it wouldn't've been useful, I believe.
(8:09 PM) Michael: Might've used Time Stop...
(8:10 PM) Michael: Or we could do a really fawking huge Bluff check to make a Great Wyrm Gold Dragon believe that this artifact was so powerful, it threatened his existence and... horde that it was almost obligatory for him to destroy it.
(8:10 PM) Michael: or LARP that situation.
(8:11 PM) Michael: Really onyl would've used Gate in my theoretical stratagems at getting to the Artifact.
(8:11 PM) Michael: As a level nine spell.
(8:11 PM) Michael: Maybe Sphere of Annihilation is level 9, I dunno.
(8:12 PM) Michael: Of course, I wouldn't attempt any of these stratagems myself, we send a loyal (mind controlled or other) employee through to get the artifact.
(8:13 PM) Michael: Oh, I imagine the look on the 'powerful' Wizard's face as a Gate'd or Teleported but electricity immune Commoner comes in out of nowhere, says 'I'm supposed to throw this on you now.' Hurls the DoSC in the Wizard's face, walks up to him, easily nabs the artifact, and walks back out with a contingent or some sort, Teleport.
(8:15 PM) Jon: do you know what the artifact looks like?
(8:15 PM) Michael: Of course, we'd enhance him with some spells to make sure he throws the area covering DoSC onto the flat-footed Wizard without miss chance. Or make sure he's a fighter with tons of Dexterity of some sort.
(8:15 PM) Michael: No. I still need to flesh out certain things like that.
(8:16 PM) Michael: Detect magic, extreme aura emanating from the grain of sand magically attached to the Wizard's forehead. Cool form for an artifact.
(8:17 PM) Michael: This is sort of biased towards what I've read from the Bartimaeus trilogy where the artifact was Gladstone's Staff. Someone must have seen the artifact at least once to know it's truly an artifact at use to conquer.
(8:18 PM) Michael: What's this? The artifact is actually a living creature? Good thing I supplied the commoner with extra DoSC's just in case, and supplied him with a spell that fends off the first attack, if the living creature tries to defend itself from the helpless looking commoner.
(8:18 PM) Michael: Here, use this greater floating disk to easily carry the object along with you.
(8:19 PM) Michael: Perhaps we may scry, if they don't have scrying protection.
(8:19 PM) Michael: If they do, send a mind-controlled familiar or brain-linked creature that could scout the grounds for us.
(8:20 PM) Michael: Mind-controlled familiar as in, low level wizard we mind-controlled so his familiar would do this for us.
(8:21 PM) Michael: Of course, that sent creatuer would have electric immunity as well.
(8:21 PM) Michael: Or be coated in rubber...
(8:22 PM) Michael: Ooh, I like Xykon's idea. Bouncy Ball (3 gp, Dungeonscape) + Insanity Rune, good area clearer.
(8:22 PM) Michael: Or spend maybe 3 days before hand stacking up some explosive runes and send them at the artifact.
(8:22 PM) Michael: Boom!
(8:22 PM) Michael: I'll think on how to teleport the runes there.
(8:23 PM) Jon: ok the only reason they know its an artifact is because its efect range is the size of a country and it effects other peoples magic, they do have scrying protection
(8:23 PM) Michael: How does it affect others' magic.
(8:24 PM) Jon: the whole redirected through another plane thing
(8:25 PM) Michael: Save money! Use Tleilaxu_Ghola's save game mechanic so we don't spend too much money on each one.
(8:25 PM) Michael: I don't know if our memories come back with that.
(8:25 PM) Jon: save game mechanich?
(8:25 PM) Michael: It only effects teleports?
(8:25 PM) Michael: I'll link you.
(8:26 PM) Michael: It's Dirty Trick #5.
(8:28 PM) Michael: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=737126
(8:29 PM) Jon: no it effects all forms of inter planer travel
(8:29 PM) Michael: I cast Gate. Hey, I wanted the plane of light, not electricity! <-Like that?
(8:29 PM) Jon: yup
(8:30 PM) Michael: Dirty Trick: Forced Dream (restart turn with everything reset except spent PP) + Psicrystal sent into a timeless void.
(8:30 PM) Michael: Damn, Psionics rule...
(8:30 PM) Michael: Mindswitch and Save-game mechanic that is.
(8:31 PM) Michael: Mindswitch with either the Tarrasque or an effigy with tons of templates. Mr. Roboto.
(8:33 PM) Michael: And you only need a level 3 Psion to do the dirty trick.
(8:33 PM) Michael: It's such a Dirty trick, but what dirty trick isn't?
(8:34 PM) Michael: 5% chance it fails if you're not on the same plane when it comes back out of the time stream.
(8:34 PM) Jon: yeah its a good trick
(8:35 PM) Michael: Saves all money spent on all my strategems for only 15 XP.
(8:35 PM) Michael: 15 XP lost on the Psion. I dunno how much a level 3 psion costs.
(8:35 PM) Michael: But technically, I could do every strategem for the cost of a level 3 Psion.
(8:36 PM) Michael: Well, what if I went onto a different plane of existence, such as the plane of holy light or whatever, first then teleported into the area of the artifact?
(8:37 PM) Jon: it could work but you will have to try it to find out
(8:37 PM) Michael: Try it with a level 1 commoner.
(8:37 PM) Michael: heheh.
(8:38 PM) Jon: if you can get the rest of the party behind you sure try it
(8:38 PM) Michael: Actually, you can do dirty trick 5 for, I believe an indefinite amount of time.
(8:39 PM) Michael: Quintessence (shaper) + Astral Seed (also Shaper) For the win

Hours for powers, but days f
(8:39 PM) Michael: or saves.
(8:41 PM) Michael: Actually, I'm reading more about this dirty trick, and uh...
(8:41 PM) Michael: Nevermind.
(8:42 PM) Jon: have you told Joey any of your plans yet?
(8:42 PM) Michael: Of course I will compile a list of my strategems and share it with the party once we meet at the session.
(8:42 PM) Michael: I'll try, if ever.
(8:43 PM) Michael: I will be posting this convo on the CO boards to see the response of the people.
(8:43 PM) Michael: Anythign that obviously works, I won't attempt.
(8:43 PM) Michael: Like, obviously works due to D&D screwing it up with its screwed up mechanics (e.g. Pun-Pun.).
(8:45 PM) Michael: Haha! This would be odd if I did this trick as soon as possible with the money available to hire a Psion 3 to do this and once it were activated when I died. I'd be playing a low level while you guys were still playing there.
(8:45 PM) Michael: Whoa, mindfreak.
(8:45 PM) Michael: Would I vanish, from your existences and none of the PC's remember me?
(8:46 PM) Michael: In my opinion, if time travel existed, it'd be alternate planes of parallel realities. An alternate reality where I went forward in time.
(8:46 PM) Michael: Some such.
(8:46 PM) Michael: Otherwise, everytime a psion somewhere manifested time regression, we'd start our characters over again.
(8:48 PM) Michael: The real question for dirty trick 5 is, how would your psi crystal be safe once it popped out of the time stream hours later, can mind-link work to inform the status (physical) of either the psicrystal and its master?
(8:48 PM) Michael: And I believe psionics works through anti-magic fields.
(8:50 PM) Michael: ", including spells, spell-like abilities, and supernatural abilities." Does that includ emanifestations?
(8:51 PM) Michael: Cast teleport on the wizard wielding the artifact.
(8:51 PM) Michael: Boom he's dead.
(8:51 PM) Jon: psionics do work in an anti-magic field
(8:52 PM) Michael: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/teleportObject.htm
(8:52 PM) Michael: Range, touch
(8:53 PM) Michael: Commoner, tosses DoSC, teleport object (scroll, contingent or whatever, imbue spell?), the end.
(8:54 PM) Michael: If we are killed within a day, we could still fly in and out at fast speeds. As well, If we gate from another plane into the area of the artifact, we'd still see the artifact, technically it's magical effects don't reach the plane we're on, I believe.
(8:55 PM) Michael: So we could drop in, impossible to be half in, half out, we are instantaneously placed there, do our thang.
(8:56 PM) Michael: Or even, use a replicating trick to surround the tower and we lay back, letting the infinite replicators do our thang, refer to Tleilaxu_Ghola's 'The Legion'.
(8:56 PM) Michael: Hey Nanobots, jump check boost please, kthxbyyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeee *sproing*
(8:57 PM) Michael: Feather fall, some size increasing spell, Colossal time! *SCHMASH!*
(8:57 PM) Michael: You know, get some magical system to hurl the person there, and get them to smash.
(8:57 PM) Jon: all of these are good ideas and I look forward to you trying them
(8:57 PM) Michael: And Hulking hurler smash with large titanium boulder thing.
(9:01 PM) Michael: Nuclear Apocalypse from the Sky. You know that? Know what it is?
(9:01 PM) Jon: um... no
(9:08 PM) Michael: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=734636 Apocalypse from the Sky (BoVD spell, radius in kilometres/miles) + Explosive Spell (send anything within outward from the spell radius, deal damage 1d6/10 ft. or so) + Add metamagic feats increasing damage.
(9:08 PM) Michael: Although, if targets hit walls, reduces damage.
(9:09 PM) Jon: chances you would find an NPC with those exact character specification 1/1000000
(9:10 PM) Michael: It only takes the spell and the feat.
(9:10 PM) Michael: I could do it myself, even.
(9:12 PM) Michael: http://boards1.wizards.com/wotc_arch...x.php/t-555160 D&D Nuclear Weaponry. I favour, for this adventure, the Holy Hand Grenade (Alchemist's Fire, shrunk, tossed in bag), Holly Berries of Doom (like explosive runes for Druids, spell Fire seeds, stafficer (artificer that 'staffs') makes 25 Fire seeds every casting, with high enough CL, all detonate upon command word), Undead Bomb (undead bats
(9:12 PM) Michael: + retribution destruction feat, they explode when they die.)
(9:13 PM) Michael: Technically, that's waging war on the tower. Artillery.
(9:13 PM) Michael: I don't know if you had war planned for this adventure. It seems odd the people who hired us haven't already.
(9:13 PM) Michael: Or maybe just because the no teleport thing is an incovenience, but not worth starting a war over.
(9:15 PM) Michael: Also, I'm assuming the artifact breaks the Teleport rule of, not being able to teleport to a different dimension.
(9:16 PM) Michael: Technically, the campaign is ruined by purposefully sending loyal Zeugalak/Shambling Mounds to the Elemental Plane (Lightning) where they gain nigh infinite constituion and proceed towards the artifact.
(9:16 PM) Michael: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=689256 No need to read this, another clone bomb thread. Just another example of artillery in D&D.
(9:18 PM) Jon: oh they have its just that every time they try to attack the tower sends a spread of lighting bolts at the army. by the way the county use to be the size of iceland, but they used a combination of military might and the artifact to conquer the suronding countries now it's the size of france. and the reason that your going in there to get the artifact is so they can attack and take back the conquer
(9:18 PM) Jon: ed lands
(9:18 PM) Michael: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=780095 Right, here is how to send Explosiev Runes as artillery. Mage hand (range close, crap), Greater " (medium range), Launch Item (medium range) and Telekinesis.
(9:19 PM) Michael: Telekinesis can violent thrust the explosive runes at the tower, posibly.
(9:19 PM) Michael: Zeugalak/Shambling mounds get stronger by lightning bolts?
(9:19 PM) Michael: Lightning bolts do not travel half the distance of France?
(9:20 PM) Jon: magic ones can
(9:20 PM) Michael: http://boards1.wizards.com/wotc_arch...x.php/t-469334 Another bomb thread, Nano-bombs.
(9:20 PM) Michael: So, technically, it's not lightning bolts but uh... What's the name of that spell, hold on.
(9:21 PM) Michael: Closest thing I can find, Chain Lightning.
(9:22 PM) Michael: Well, I'll definitely try Zeugalak/Shambling Mounds first.
(9:25 PM) Jon: where can I find Shambling Mound/Zeugalak?
(9:26 PM) Michael: http://boards1.wizards.com/wotc_arch...x.php/t-521313 Mind switch, with Tarrasque and other.

Hmm, I wonder if magic of the Shadow Weave is affected by your artifact. Perhaps I could even time regress back before the artifact existed.
(9:26 PM) Michael: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=587555 Number 5, Electroshock Therapy, The Beast.
(9:31 PM) Jon: damn I accidently closed the conversation window can you send me a copy of the conversation
Michael says, Transformers is 4 stars. (aka NiteCyper, pro gamer of SSBM and BF2) - del.icio.us/jameniye < mucho importante... sends:

C(9:32 PM) Michael: That appeared weird on my MSN window. Can you download it?

(9:32 PM) Michael: Just Open With > Wordpad/Notepad/Microsoft Word
(9:34 PM) Jon: um that dosn't have our most recent conversation on it
(9:35 PM) Michael: I prolly have to close this window for it to be saved.
(9:35 PM) Michael: Here, I'll copy paste this entire convo so far into a thread on the CO boards and you take a gander.
(9:35 PM) Jon: k
(9:37 PM) Michael: Crap, my keyboard layout is screwing up outside MSN, on Firefox. It'll take a bit longer than expted.
(9:37 PM) Jon: k
(9:37 PM) Michael: LMFAO! I can just copy paste what I type here.
(9:37 PM) Michael: I realise.
(9:42 PM) Michael: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthrea...2#post13075262
(9:46 PM) Michael: Again, I could as well Wish the artifact to me, but that's DM controlled.
(9:48 PM) Jon: I personaly very much dislike the Wish spell, I'm going to have to think on if I'm going to allow that.
(9:55 PM) Jon: ya I'm going to say the arifact is too powerfull to be effected by a wish.
(9:57 PM) Michael: If I were an Artificer, I'd have nigh infinite cash.
(9:57 PM) Michael: To spend on my stratagems.
(9:58 PM) Jon: yes money more powerfull then magic somtimes
(9:58 PM) Michael: Money buys spells.
(9:58 PM) Michael: It's all in how you use it.
(9:59 PM) Michael: Lol, what if I became a Diplomancer or hired one to con everyone in the adventure to work with our group.
(10:00 PM) Michael: I think I read somewhere, when you hire, you have to pay extra to have exact feats you need, I think.
(10:00 PM) Michael: Or just use Leadership to get a cohort with the exact stuff we need.
(10:01 PM) Jon: also good
(10:29 PM) Michael: Jake got MSN?
(10:31 PM) Jon: yes
(10:31 PM) Jon: but he's never on
(10:31 PM) Michael: That's fine, would you give me his addy?
(10:32 PM) Michael: I'll send him a message and when, if ever, he does come on, he'll get it
(10:32 PM) Jon: I have to ask him first sorry
(10:33 PM) Michael: Send him this if you have Windows Live: take a one level dip in the Mindbender prestige class. I think it's in Complete Arcane. Then take the mindsight feat. If you don't know what book that's in, use www.timjoh.com/dnd.
(10:36 PM) Michael: Mindsight Feat Lords of Madness (3.5), p. 126

(11:22 PM) Jon: bye

Discuss.

Looks like your GM is intending a strict by-the-rules campaign that allows any by-the-rules abuses that come from these forums.

Either you'll trivialize the adventure or he'll have to use similar tactics for the NPC in which case the campaign gets reduced to the following.

OK, the campaign has started. Roll initiative. If you lose the enemy will use his infinite-loop omniscience to determine where you are and what you intend to do and then he'll kill you all.

If you win initiative you have one round before you die.

IMO not fun for anyone, but if a RAW player vs. GM game is what you're after you're all set.

Who says he allows anything broken? Well, I said this after that post, anything I found on this board that's obviously broken, i wouldn't use (e.g. Pun-Pun). It's just some creativity at work. If a Shambling Mound just happens to get stronger by electricity, and my Wizard with high intelligence just HAPPENS to know that, why not do it? That's like saying, using a gun is cheap because it's broken. The point isn't always to have long dragged out fights that risk lives, it's to have short fights that risk no lives. Especially if there's no fight at all.

SENT FROM A WII AGAIN.

Diving straight into it: HEIST PROCEDURE :
1. Initiate dirty trick 5. (Repeat as necessary.)
2. Recon. (Depending on your 'save game's' grace period, you may act recklessly.)
3. Incapacitate.
4. Retrieve.
5. Escape.
6. Erase (your tracks.)
If all else fails, wing it. Go Rambo! Although, I never saw Rambo so, if he died, try steering towards living.

¡×±∞→←↑↓♭♪ζΘθχΞΛ΅ΥΣΠΦςΐ☆○◇□△◎

Now that I consider it, a heist at ECL 16 is just too easy any way you plan it... If you're a munchkin, which I am. ECL 10 heists and lower would be more fun. The rest that I'm typing is 99% what I wrote down on paper while I was bored again:

Heist 1, Take 2, ACTION!

1. Dirty Trick 5 (if DM allows)
2. On a basis of no 'save game', recon by mindlinked animals, hired MindSpies, Diplomancer, seduction (refer to optimised seduction build somewhere... Use the Hando CO links page), omniscify!

3. On basis of having learnt: identity of Wizard handling the artifact, thickness of walls and the layout (Unseen Seer).

Psionic flight/Mount + AMF + Hulking Hurler/Sphere of Annihilation/metamagicked Apocalypse from the Sky/Meld Into Stone/Gaseous Form/Psionic Teleport + Dust of Sneezing & Choking/Diplomance target +
Planar Bubble? (On a code of my own honor of stuff I have forbidden myself to use, this is on the list but barring being in a plane where time flows not at all, this might have some use. Ad check the convo where I ask if teleporting from another plane to the destination would work. Also, this might work with using it as an eff'd up imagine-the-possibilities sculpted spell as a huge line out in front of you. e.g. your demi-plane that you would use for Juju Zombies but instead, using its extreme time flow to disintegrate all that it encompasses. Yeah, I know, contradicts my honor, whatever.)
+ Rust Monster (pesky walls) + Nuke the tower (refer to Project Manhattan Nuclear Weaponry in the Handy CO Links thread) + Shambling Mound shield (my DM didn't think of this)

4. Teleport Object/Swallow Whole/Produce a fake/Shatter/put in a Bag of Holding inside another BoH or a Portable Hole or
demi-plane of bottomless hole (attach it to your Psicrystal and get some sorta contingent teleport on it in-case you need it back from the bottomless pit demi-plane on command) or
demi-plane of extreme time-flow (e.g. Hah, I easily entered your demi-plane to grab the artifact back! *exits* I don't think I'm in Kansas anymore...)
5. Check 3's. Although, you could suicide or sunfin then get revived outside the tower...
6. Modify Memory / Cooking with Bobby McMindflay / Necrotic Cyst + Necrotic Tumor + Explode Cyst (I'm not sure of the validity of this method because I've never looked into it, but I think it works. Explode Cyst for the helluvit...) / TRAP THEIR SOUL (weapon enchantment I forget what book combined with Fleshgrinder), MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!
