Granted, you can use 'em as spells, but then you have the question of your Sorcerer firing off Moko Tabishas and a depressive lich who uses Shi Shi Hokodans. Should it be a modified Monk ability, or what? (BTW, I do not have BESM, not for lack of looking.) Also, what class is Ranma? I'm thinking high Monk, mid Fighter, with a little Rogue thrown in for good measure, with a touch of Sorcerer picked up here and there. (If you deal with magic on a regular basis, some of it's gonna splash...) Has anyone tried to stat Ranma and company? |

They have invocations, and eldritch blast, which is basically a typeless energy blast that functions as a touch attack. Most anime characters are multiclass(or gestalt) warlocks/warblades. Higher level characters get stronger blasts with the warlock, which can be represented by bigger blasts in anime. Warblades then get all the fancy martial manuevers. |
| Xavon07-17-07, 09:00 PM | Monk, see the PHBII for a feat that grants a ranged attack. |
| ArgulFraster07-17-07, 11:10 PM | Which I don't have. In the immortal words of Uncle Oswitch, Dangit! |
| Prime3207-24-07, 04:26 PM | PHB2 Monk feats Fiery Fists (does what it says) Fiery Ki Defence (Kaio Ken attack... TIMES FOUR!!!) Ki Blast (form "seething orb of raw Ki" as a move action. Deals force damage) |
| mato_hibiki07-26-07, 03:02 AM | Or, check the D&D psionics board for some builds of Ranma and co. Nicely done too. |
| InkBlot07-26-07, 03:47 AM | And Tome Of Battle. I used to say it wasn't possible to play Ranma characters in D&D; that it was better to just play BESM. Then the Expanded Psionics Handbook and the Tome Of Battle came out. I've accurately stated up Ranma as, IIRC, a multiclassed Ardent/Swordsage. Kachu Tenshin Amaguriken is the hammer power, combined with the Avalanche Of Blades strike, and the Girallon Windmill Flesh Rip boost. The attack gives him potentialy infinite attacks (you keep making attacks until you miss) at a cumulative -4 penalty, and up to 20d6 bonus damage depending on how many attacks hit. He can easily get something like 8d8+20d6 damage on one turn. Optionally, the Stormguard Warrior and Psychic Renewal feats can be used to increase the damage by about 340 points. Hiryuu Shoten Ha is the tornado blast power, plain and simple. Moko Takabisha is energy ray, or energy push, or any of the many other psionic energy powers. They all do 1d6 fire, electricity, sonic, or cold (your choice) damage per power point spent, up to a max of your manifester level (you can never spend more points than your ML). They differentiate from each other with the area of affect, and secondary effects; energy push knocks back the target; energy stun stuns the target; energy wave is a cone; et cetera. Neko Ken is the claws of the beast power, perhaps combined with animal affinity or psychofeedback. Animal affinity gives a bonus to ability scores. Psychofeedback can give a big bonus to physical ability scores, and gives an equaly big penalty to mental ability scores. Did I forget any? His speed is represented by powers like burst (swift, +10 move for one round), hustle (swift, free move action), and psionic lion's charge (swift, full attack on a charge). His powerful punches is hammer (+1d8 touch attacks), metaphysical weapon (enhancement bonus to attack/damage), and strike maneuvers (which have various affects, often including bonus damage). |
| ArgulFraster07-28-07, 11:16 PM | Well, thanks... Could someone link me to the Ranma builds? |
| InkBlot07-31-07, 02:28 AM | Here you go: Psionic Ranma 1/2 Builds (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=855523&highlight=Ranma) It's a bit old an incomplete. Sorry about that. I'm much better at putting together little tricks than making whole builds. And there don't seem to be many other Ranma fans who are also familiar with the psionics system, and have an urge to post builds. |
