So, anyone knows this awesome piece of manga (I've never seen the anime)?
I was thinking, HxH has a Nen system that would be great to adapt to d20. Basically, it works like that: you can control the vital energy from your body to create an aura around you. With this aura, you can do many things. One of the most interesting aura ('nen') skills is the Hatsu; it is a personal, unique way that yonly you have of manipulating your aura.
You have an innate affinity with one of six Hatsu types:
Reinforcement (make things stronger, including your body if you want to),
Manipulation (manipulate things, like an elaborate telekinesis),
Emission (separate your aura from your body to do whatever),
Materialization (use your aura to create real objects),
Transformation (change the properties of your aura),
and Specialization (anything else).
Each person with access to nen skills usually develops a signature Hatsu ability based on their innate affinity; if you try to develop an ability of a category different from your innate one, it is much harder.

I was thinking, to adapt this system would be creating low-level mechanics very similar to the Epic spells one. I myself don't have the skills to do something like that, it requires a lot of work to keep game balance. But it is one heck of a system.
Anyone has any ideas on how we could translate this 'create your own spell' idea to the lower levels?

Btw, I don't have any of the psionics handbooks. Just realized this stuff might have been covered in one of them already. If it was, sorry ^_^

First, let me just say AWESOME IDEA!!! I LOVE THAT MANGA!!

As for game information I think that the class abilities would be either of these two: ( I don't have the epic level handbook so I don't know what the epic spells are like.)

1. Nen would be a variant of the psyonic stuff where it would be like the power points that psionics users get.(Instead of getting a set number of spells per day like wizards, psionics people get power points and their spells cost them a certain amount of points. Some abilities can be augmented yielding a greater effect at the cost of more points)

I think that hunters can do some of the same stuff (like that jummping ability Gon and Killua did on Greed Island and Gyo) but each one has his own ace move, so I figure that for that one move they would get some sort of bonus like a DC boost, an extended time, a greater ability enhancement that seperates them from some other guy using the same ability. I have an idea that it would be something like this:

Lets say that there is a Enhancer nen user who activates/casts the ability Animal Affinity (costs 3 power points) which would normally give a +4 enchantment bonus to one of the user's ability scores, but since its an Enhancer doing the casting, he gets a +6 bonus. Now lets say that an Emmiter or a Transmuter does the same thing. They would get the normal +4 bonus. I'd go one step further and say that if a Manipulator or a Conjurer tries the same thing, that they would only get a +2 bonus.

The nen users would know some moves (perhaps an amount equal to how many spells a warlock gets).

2. Nen use would be 6 different skills that nen users gain as part of the class and have to make checks to use it. They would get a +5 bonus to doing abilities that corresond to their hatsu type. Also for their personal ability (hatsu right?) they would always automatically succeed. This is how Gon is able to do his whole wrecking ball smash but can't really do his nen blast or nen blade that well. You would have to work out with the DM what the DCs would be for abilities.

I hope my suggestions are helpful.

I've been kicking around ideas for a Hunter PrC. I don't really have the time to flesh them out, but if anyone to take a look.

Basic abilities
Ten - Grants DR against all physical attacks
Gyo - Detect Magic at will. EX ability as standard action.
Ren - Turn Undead(but instead of working on undead, works on living)
Zetsu - Grants a bonus to Hide skill

Advanced Abilities
Shu - Magic Weapon
En - Initiative Bonus or maybe AC bonus, or can attack during surprise round.
Ken - More DR, extending to magic weapons, but can only be maintained for a round equal to a Hunters PrC level.
Kyou - Add AC to damage. Have an AC of 0 for entire round. Can't use Ten or Ken at the same time.
Ryu - ??

I've thought about ways to implement conditions or restrictions, maybe add caster levels if the condition is met.
