From an orchestra unseen, a great swell of music fills the arena, and a shower of wondrous silver and blue fireworks send jewel-bright sparks drifting lazily down over the sandy floor of the colossal edifice. Soon, the sparks pull together into a human figure, clad in a navy and silver robe, face shrouded by a long, deep hood. "Arena goers! Fortune smiles upon you -for the first time in seven hundred years, Sorcen Anenooata and his judges present to you the Mage Duel. Within mere hours, the magicians will assemble here, and the Duel of Wizards, il Viritim Pugnare delle Magi, will commence!" Waving and smiling to the crowd, Lord and Lady Anenooata take their seats in the judge's box. Lord Sorcen waves his hand once, signalling for the games to begin!

As per agreement on the proboards site, this will be a three versus three, magic-only mage fight. The rules are simple: Blasting your own teammate out of existance will either result in DQ or at least points deduction, irrespective of how much of the opponent is left.
Which leads to: If you can save your teamate from your instant-kill auto-hit armageddon spell, the other team can too.

If there's anything I missed, guys, let me know, and I'll fix it!
Uh...sorry 'bout that, got a little carried away. Anyways, ladies and gentlemen of the Baator, welcome to our first ever Mage Duel. This will be a three vs. three, magic-only fight between Lord Bahamut, SeptimusMagistos, dragor shadowfury, kalestarveteran, EpicEvokerElf, and myself. So...if you're not one of those posters, please keep in character comments to the tavernne, and out of character comments to the main thread or other site. And now, let the games begin!
Michael Alerim, Munchlord & Fiora Gaelrae
Vs. Edvard the Pale, Nickobold Brightstar & Darius Xan

Darius Xan walks into the arena."this will be sight for anyone to see."
Lord_Bahamut

07-31-07, 05:49 PM
A shrill scream echoes across the arena, and then in a roar of flame and magic Edvard bursts into the arena from thin air. He rides a nightmare, but the beast is skeletal and it's flames are black. Edvard slips off his mount, which shakes it's fiery mane and leaps back into the netherworld.

"So, this is where the party's at? Looks like I'm just in time."

The lich's voice is a rasp, like sandpaper on stone. His robes are deep purple, with silver tears embroidered around the edges. His beaten and bent hat slouches atop his head, while the Staff of Gloom pulses with a sickly green light in his right hand. His hat obscures his face, but the light falls on his jawbone, completely devoid of flesh. His eyes are different than before, one being a diseased green pinpoint of light, the other a small ball of flame.

Darius turns to edvard."I see you are a necromancer and a powerful one at that. Are you here for the mage duel?
Lord_Bahamut

07-31-07, 08:05 PM
Edvard's head swivels on his shoulders almost 180 degrees to stare at Darius.

"Duel? Hah! If you could call this a duel, then yes. Back in the day, a real duel consisted of entire armies chucking spells back and forth... Ah, the glory days are long gone now."

Edvard walks over to the team sheet and examines the asignment of teams. His head turns around back to it's normal position.

"Hmm, don't recognize any names on here... Too bad that Septimus bloke didn't join in. That might have been fun."

"What makes you think otherwise?" With a flare of silver fire, a young man materializes. He looks around, brushing some of his auburn hair away from his eyes, and takes a deep breath. "So here it is...the real Baator - at the time of the Mage Duel." He grins broadly, celestial features lighting up. He shrugs off his gray jacket, revealing the scarlet t-shirt underneath (which reads in navy letters "Magic - est. 700 B.R."), and inexplicably fits the jacket in the pocket of his blue jeans. A thought seems to strike him - "I wonder if I'll be in Planar History textbooks after this..."

Ah a chronomancer you are right.I hope you're not here to bet are you?
NorthWind

07-31-07, 11:23 PM
The celestial turns to Darius "Chronomancer...sort of. Although I'm sure you can see that I'm not from this time. I've been commissioned to do some work in the past by Sorceries Co. And since they were kind enough to give me a time loop," he points to a silver ring on his finger "I thought I'd stop by here. Not to bet, of course - where's the fun in that?" he concludes, with a wry grin.
Lord_Bahamut

08-01-07, 02:03 AM
Edvard's head rotates around with a creak as the newcomer appears.

"What's this? Another 'competitor'? Ah, the days of youth."

His head rotates back to normal as he turns his whole body to face this new person.

"What makes me think otherwise? I have heard things across the planes and multiverses about this 'Septimus' character... I would like to meet him. You, on the other hand, are just another person in my way."

His hat slips forward and into his face, where he grabs it and angrily claps it back onto his scalp.

"I have not heard of you before. I do not even know your name."

The flame in Edvard's left socket burns with sudden intensity.

"It shall be a pleasure to disembowl you in front of a screaming crowd."
NorthWind

08-01-07, 09:47 AM
"Edvard the Pale? Now I wish I payed proper attention in the briefing...oh well. I'm in no mood to be disemboweled - I'd worry more about yourself."
kalestarveteran

08-01-07, 10:42 AM
Should I know who edvard the pale or this semptimus person is?I know I,ve heard of them I just can't place where.
SeptimusMagistos

08-01-07, 01:12 PM
Nick enters the arena, looking somewhat apprehensive. He shudders when he sees Edvard. Then he puts his arm into the pouch by his side and pulls out a small notebook. It expands to become a huge tome which nearly overbalances Nick and makes him stumble before settling properly. The inscription on the front of the tome reads BOOK OF MAGIC.

"Oh, man. I really should have studied this instead of playing Papers and Paychecks." he mutters to himself.
kalestarveteran

08-01-07, 01:33 PM
Darius turns to he newcomer."Hello my name is Darius Xan,archmage of wild magic.Who are you?"
kalestarveteran

08-01-07, 01:37 PM
Darius turns back to edvard."So how long have you been a lich?"
Lord_Bahamut

08-01-07, 03:37 PM
"Worry about myself? Hardly. The most worrying I'll be doing is whether or not there's enough of you left to animate."

Edvard looks over Nick and dismisses him as well.

"So you are Darius, eh? My team mate?" He runs an green eye over Darius and examines him. He starts when he realizes Darius asked him a question.

"Eh? Oh, how long? Eh, twelve thousand years, give or take a century. If I had facial muscles I'd be smiling."
kalestarveteran

08-01-07, 05:51 PM
You're extremly old and powerful for a normal lich, are you a demi or god lich?
SeptimusMagistos

08-02-07, 10:45 AM
Nick begins to leaf through his book erratically.
EpicEvokerElf

08-02-07, 01:15 PM
A silver vertical slash appears in midair, rotating to form a full circle. The silver fades, revealing a sparsely furnished chamber with blank walls. A woman steps through into the arena.

She has coppery-colored skin and black hair held back by a silver band worked in curves which inexplicaby seem to turn in on themselves, weaving an intricate web of metal with no joints or beginnings. Her dress is made of thin green silk and seems to cling to every curve and contour of her body. The low neckline adds to the impression, framing a collection of necklaces and pendants in gems and precious metals. She wears a multitude of bracelets as well, though only two rings. Her dress has a thin gold corded belt woven like her hairband, and tucked into it are a pair of red-lacquered wooden sursa, or eating sticks. She carries a small cloth satchel, embroidered in thread-of-gold, slung over one shoulder.

She smiles radiantly, and you notice that her face has a peculiar quality: she appears young, but not entirely. You cannot put an age to her. She addresses the gathered mages in a musical voice that seems to resonate in an odd manner.

Greetings. I am Fiora Galerae, Aes Sedai of the Green Ajah. I gather that this is the competition?
kalestarveteran

08-02-07, 03:16 PM
Darius Xan notices the teleportation."You are correct fair lady.Judging by the power of these combatents and the fact that were all fighting at once there looks like theres going to be a LOT of collteral damage so I hope you know some good sheilding spells. It Dosn't help that some of us are a few scrolls short of a full spellbook."Darius Xan looks over at nick.
EpicEvokerElf

08-02-07, 05:19 PM
Fiora turns toward Darius gracefully, nodding to acknowledge his greeting.

"Warding is one of my greater Talents. Unfortunately, I know little to no Healing, and so cannot help him. I shall delve him if you wish."

I am a rosebud. I feel a warmth, a light, on my petals. Slowly, carefully, I open myself to the light and saidar fills me. It is a river, calm on the surface, but as I reach in an eddy grasps at me. Another. The river has an undertow as well, and hundreds of small currents buffet me this way and that as I fight to stay up. I relax. I surrender. I allow myself to be swept up by saidar and the Power fills me. It is sweet beyond belief, warm, and with it I am acutely aware of my surroundings. I can feel my heart beat, but I can also hear the heartbeats of the others. I can make out individual threads in Michael's jeans. I am alive.

I reach out again, feeling for a strand of Spirit. Weaving carefully, I form a probe of the Power. I reach out, and brush Nick's shoulder delicately. The Power flows through me, into him, and back. His mind and body are sound.

Then and only then do I realize Darius' sarcasm. I release the Source with a small sigh, feeling the life drain out of me as the colors fade and smells vanish. Oh well.

"Do not be too hard on him. He is young, and lacks training. Did you not wear the white once as well?"
SeptimusMagistos

08-02-07, 08:45 PM
Nick overhears Darius's comment and glares at him.

"My spellbook is full enough. I just haven't had the benefit of decades of study and this is my first duel on a major scale."
kalestarveteran

08-02-07, 09:07 PM
Darius Xan relaxs"I'm not sure. For the past 3 years I havn't been able to remember my past. But if his teacher belives he can survive this deul so be it.Darius hears nick."I'm sorry for my earliar remark. My appoligeis. So for the record who teaches you.

08-03-07, 09:11 AM
"Good day, ma'am. I can't remember - you're on my team? That would mean we're only missing...Munchlord, I think his name was." He turns to walk over to his team mate, sizing up the opposing team.
EpicEvokerElf

08-03-07, 09:46 AM
Fiora nods graciously. "Michael Alerim, isn't it? I hope you'll pardon me for asking, but- who tried to hang you?" She brushes Michael's neck lightly with two fingers, sending shivers down his spine.
NorthWind

08-03-07, 10:01 AM
Michael laughs - "Hanging? How'd you know about that? Well, either way, they were Puritans. Never do magic in the vicinity of Puritans. I showed up in the middle of a bunch of witch trials as a student of Holy Writ to stop anyone from being hanged as a witch. Well, I got a little carried away when I charmed one of the judges, and it got bad from there. I'll probably be docked pay or something."
EpicEvokerElf

08-03-07, 10:17 AM
Fiora laughs gently and replies, "I saw the rope burn on your throat. An Aes Sedai never misses anything. Or so the Whites say. 'Carried away' somehow, I think, fails to sum up the magnitude of the incident if you began by trying to stop a hanging and ended being hung. It sounds as though there's more of a story to this. I'd love to hear it; perhaps after the duel?"
NorthWind

08-03-07, 10:20 AM
"Yeah, sure. I think there's a bar around here, so we can meet there. Oh, and you mean hanged. Laundry is hung, people are hanged." Michael says with a grin.
EpicEvokerElf

08-03-07, 10:31 AM
Fiora smiles as well. "Delightful."
kalestarveteran

08-04-07, 10:17 AM
After alpoligising Darius Xan asks flora."the power you just used, what is it.I belive you called it the Delve."
EpicEvokerElf

08-04-07, 10:28 AM
Fiora turns to him and begins to explain, taking on a lecturing tone. "I said as much, yes. Simply delve or delving. A probe of the fifth Power, used to examine someone to discover any ailments they might have."
kalestarveteran

08-04-07, 10:31 AM
Oh so its a extremly powerful divanation. Is it a custom spell.[As in one only you can use.]
EpicEvokerElf

08-04-07, 10:44 AM
"Powerful?" She titters lightly. Delving is the weakest Healing weave there is. I doubt even a novice could fumble it."
kalestarveteran

08-04-07, 10:50 AM
I assumed it was powerful becuase I havn't heard of it and most spells kept secret from me are extremly great.Perhaps where from another dismension were my people havn't made it yet.[he's not kidding]
kalestarveteran

08-04-07, 11:20 AM
"Good day, ma'am. I can't remember - you're on my team? That would mean we're only missing...Munchlord, I think his name was." He turns to walk over to his team mate, sizing up the opposing team.

Micheal sees when sizing him up that Darius is completly enveopd in a red cloak with many truename runes and strange arcane symbols. He also sees that the cloak has a picture of wildspace that seems to be moving.
SeptimusMagistos

08-04-07, 12:21 PM
"My teacher is Master Septimus. He's just up in the taverne, getting my friends settled. They came to watch me. Well, the ones who could make it, anyway. The rest are just watching via the spheres."

Nick waves at the taverne window.
kalestarveteran

08-04-07, 12:31 PM
"Now I remember who Semptimus Magistos is.He's the famous archmage, the seventh son of a seventh son.I apoligise again for doubting your abilities.

OOC:When is he mage duel starting?
dragor_shadowfury

08-05-07, 01:25 PM
Munchlord appear from the gate to the arena, with a facial expression, on what little face his lichdom has left him, telling no more than plain rock.
"It was here that the duel of magic was to be held, no?"
kalestarveteran

08-05-07, 01:33 PM
You are correct.
kalestarveteran

08-05-07, 01:37 PM
"My name is Darius Xan archmage of wildmagic, who might you be?
Lord_Bahamut

08-05-07, 02:21 PM
Sorry for the absence... Work got in the way.

And I was wondering when you would stick in an Aes Sedai or Asha'man, E3. :DEdvard stalks over to Fiora, his one flaming eye looking over her.

"A Green? Here? Now this could be interesting." His bones give a muffled rattle from beneath his robes as he stalks away towards Nick and Darius.

"You two!" Edvard calls. "Come here! If we are to be a team, then I want to see what you can do!"

He looks at Nick. "Especially you, Brightstar. A student of Septimus, eh? I have high expectations."
kalestarveteran

08-05-07, 02:30 PM
using a combination of arcane fire, mastery of shape, and nastery of elements darius creates a explosion of acid inj the air.And thats not even my wild magic.
SeptimusMagistos

08-06-07, 11:43 AM
Nick comes over to Edvard, a bit intimidated (He's not used to liches yet.)

"Uh, thanks. Well, I can do most kinds of magic on my own, but I'm still only a beginner, so Master Septimus allowed me to use my book for this fight. Normally he prefers me to rely on my own skills."

Nick demonstrates the BOOK OF MAGIC again by lifting it up.
kalestarveteran

08-06-07, 05:34 PM
"I really hope you'rer prepared for using that.Semptius has a great book of magic but without proper study it could be a force random destruction and random destruction is MY job."
Lord_Bahamut

08-06-07, 09:25 PM
Edvard gives a wicked chuckle, and speaks in a low voice so that only his team can hear.

"A little fear will do you good, Brightstar. So Darius, you do the wild magic stuff, eh? Never saw the use of it really myself, but everyone has their interests."

The lich snaps his fingers and a lawn chair made of human bones appears. He flops into it with a muffled rattle, and the chair gives an unstable tremble before Edvard waves his hand and magically balances it.

"Destructive magic. Hah, you have no idea, Darius. No idea at all."

Edvard snaps his fingers again and a martini glass made from obsidian pops into existance with a small bang. In it is a deep red liquid and a rotting paper parasol.

He takes notice of the Munchlord and raises nonexistant eyebrows.

"Another lich, eh? Pah. I was the first, and I'll be the last if I have any say in it."
kalestarveteran

08-06-07, 10:03 PM
As if darius's voice is coming from everywhere at once he booms:

"NEVER make fun of wild magic.I have invented new ways of destroying things that you could never comprehend. The way you see destroying is just turning the substennce to another state of matter, but I outright obliterate it.When you kill someone there spirit lives on but when i do it no more spirit,no more body, nothingness.I am the slayer of Thoth and defeater of Bobcob and I swear if you ever say I know nothing of desruction again abomination I will end your immortal life."

OOC:Thanks for the tips.Oh and his wild magic is a touchy subject.
dragor_shadowfury

08-07-07, 01:31 AM
Munchlord look at Edvard, completely unimpressed with what he see. "I must correct you, you are not the first and neither am I. I know the inventor of Lichdom, he is a valuable ally of me.
About being the last, only time will show."
Lord_Bahamut

08-07-07, 01:58 AM
Edvard cocks his imaginary eyebrow at Darius's explosion. His jawbone goes slack with what must be a smile. He snaps his fingers again and a footstool made of bones appears. He sighs as he puts up his feet and drinks from his martini.

"Mmm, you think you know what I think destruction is, eh? Pah. Let's not get into lengthy debates which can only end in your "complete destruction". Let us instead chat about--"

Edvard stops talking as he listens to Munchlord. He laughs.

"And where have you been? Apparrently not from where I come from. I taught the first hobgoblins how to repel the Daelkyr. I taught the first overambitious humans the art of necromancy, of life after death. Everything the world knows of necromancy and the dark arts, I discovered, I found. I admit, some of my long dead colleagues helped me, but in the end I was the only one left alive - or should I say, undead - at the end of our research... And hence, I am the sole originator of Necromancy."

Edvard waves a hand dismissively.

"But we were here to fight, were we not? So let's get dirty and fight!"

Edvard gestures with his martini, and clouds of black energy puff up around Darius and Nick. Both of them feel stronger and that their spells are more powerful.

With his free hand, Edvard flicks his index finger and floats up into the air on an invisible platform. He gestures with his martini again, and meteors the size of small houses crash down from the sky and onto Munchlord, Fiora and Michael. At the same time a sandstorm whips up around the arena and tears through the fiery explosions where the opposing team was, turning the half of the arena that Munchlord, Fiora and Michael are in into a fiery, dirty meatgrinder.

"Dirty, get it? Ha ha!"
kalestarveteran

08-07-07, 09:21 AM
Darius calmes himself and pulls out his spellbook. "Was that really nesscary. If you're a lich from ebberon then do you know a half dragan lich named volth." Then suddenly he casts two empowered lightning bolts at munchlord, but a wild surge came forth from his magic. You can see the chaos ensuing inside him as the lightning explodes before it reaches munchlord in a dazzeling storm around the enemy party.
SeptimusMagistos

08-07-07, 11:17 AM
"Oh, are we starting? Oh."

Nick opened the tome and looked at the words within, finally settling on one.

"ACID"

he pronounced, pointing his finger at the opposing team. A stream of just that (acid) blew out at the opposing team, especially Michael.
NorthWind

08-07-07, 02:15 PM
"Finally we can get going!"

Michael raises his arms above his head, and with bass rumble of thunder, a silver-white curtain descends from the sky, shimmering and undulating like a wave of auroral light. It falls between the opposing arcanists, twisting and shaping itself around Michael's team.

The magical maelstrom seems to be gently brushed aside by the shifting light, meteors sliding down the sides of the light like droplets of water, blasts of lightning curving around Munchlord, acid dribbling down the silvery wall. Michael winks at Edvard, and the spells begin to rebound on their casters, with amplified force!
kalestarveteran

08-07-07, 02:28 PM
Dariuscasts the spell timestop. He moves away from the blast and apears behind the opposind team while he casts shapechange on himself.he turns into a behethmoth gorrilla and casts haste on himself.Once the time stop is over he attemps to attack and rend michael.
NorthWind

08-07-07, 07:42 PM
As Darius leaps at Michael through the light, the arcane force that changed his shape is stripped away, and flying across the barrier is just a man.

"Nice try - but I saw that one comin' a mile away!" Michael jumps up, carried by his four wings, and aims a bolt of silver fire at the chaos mage.
kalestarveteran

08-07-07, 08:33 PM
"Darn, this is going to be tougher then I thought," The bolt of light hits his cloak but his somehow deflected. Darius Xan uses arcane fire, mastery of shapes, and mastery of elements to produce a explosion of sound at the cetlistial and sprints back to his allies.

OOC:What spell did you use to strip me of my shapechange and what was the beam of light?
Lord_Bahamut

08-07-07, 09:00 PM
"Aw, deflecting spells is no fun! One of you should have at least taken the meteors for the team."

The magic barrage comes flying back at Edvard and his teammates, but with a wave of his hand Edvard stops it cold. The roiling energies bend to the powerful lich's will. Soon a forty foot tall giant of thundering eldritch power reaches an acidic hand up through the silvery shield and tries to snatch Michael out of the air, while it stomps and sends a shockwave of lightning crackling out around it.

Edvard points his finger at Munchlord, and nothing seems to happen. But then the silvery field around the other lich pops like a soap bubble, and Edvard's spell continues on. All magic in the area goes dead, and Edvard cackles as his antimagic ray takes effect.
Alright, so one of us needs to do some sort of multiverse-tearing spell... And maybe then the multiverse will tear, and we all get sucked into the place between the dimension... *dun dun DUN!!*
NorthWind

08-08-07, 09:11 AM
With a crack of sonic energy, Michael is blasted upwards, into the waiting palm of the giant Edvard conjured. Michael looks up at the giant, and raises and eyebrow "I'm touched - all this trouble to get rid of me." Before the giant has any time to crush the hapless angel, a wave of dim red light rushes over the creature, and it begins to shrink as the forces binding it begin to unravel, lightning being pulled back to the giant as if it was moving in reverse.

Soon, Michael is standing among the wisps of arcane power, his silver ring glowing brightly. "Gotcha!"

Well, L. Bahamut, there's a multiverse tearing spell in there, it just hasn't screwed anything up yet :D

Oh, and Kalestarveteran, when fighting here, people usually don't use specific spells, they just use magic. So all you really need to do is describe the effect of your spell, maybe throw in some magic words (I do that a lot with Ender) and you're good! I'd recommend looking at some of the In Character 1 battles for examples of this.
kalestarveteran

08-08-07, 09:34 AM
Darius chants harmoniosly"duard vareka kaishem"and a the grows tendris out his back. Then darius speaks in tunames long forgotten, the word of chaos.

08-08-07, 03:05 PM
Seeing the stream of acid loop back at him, Nick hastily points his finger at it and yells out "ABATE!", making it disappear entirely. then, seeing all the huge effects, he turns the page, trying to find a powerful enough spell. Settling on one that looks like it might work, Nick lifted his finger and yelled out "ANGEL!" in a clear voice. A moment later, a shining Solar appeared. Its sword was sheathed in golden flame and his wings were extended and his armor was shining. It made a cry of his own.

"Repent, evil doers! Give up your dark ways and turn onto the path of Goodness and Light! Cease your struggle and let the light enter your hearts, or else feel the might of my sword!"

After his rant, the Solar opened his eyes and looked around.

"What the Hell? Wait a minute! This actually is Hell! Who summons an angel to Hell?"
Lord_Bahamut

08-09-07, 12:53 AM
The powerful magic energies are sucked away into Michael's ring... which promptly explodes. The angel is surrounded by a fireball of pure, elementless arcane energy that seems to vaporize the very air around it. Edvard gives an evil chuckle.

"Gotcha!"
Yeah, I was thinking that maybe all of us could do some uber-spell all at the same time and get totally blown to hell (pardon the pun).

And Septimus, the solar thing was funny. :D
dragor_shadowfury

08-09-07, 04:31 AM
Munchlord gaze upon the flashy effects of the other's spells with bore in his eyes. As the antimagic ray hit him he seemed to become a little more interested in what wa going on.
"Pardon me, that I do not start throwing around balls of flame and bolts of lightning, it certainly would provide a better show for the audience"
The he open up a back he was carrying and pull out a white rune. He plant it on his right foot and levitate towards Michael, seemingly noncaring of the antimagic ray he was hit by. He then pull out another rune and plant in on his chest, this rune is not visible, rather it is registered. It has no color only precense.
NorthWind

08-11-07, 09:23 AM
Michael manages to whip his ring off just before it bursts in a flare of energy, and is consumed by the flames. One can almost see Michael gritting his teeth in agony as the flames whirl around him, his shadow twisting and writhing...until they abruptly cease. They begin moving in reverse, forming a tiny circle, which flies back up onto Michael's finger by the same path it fell. The flames clear to reveal the celestial, inexplicably unharmed. "Oh, damn." The ring begins to smoke and hiss, tiny arcs of magical force bouncing across it's silver surface. Michael pulls it off yet again, and instead of throwing it to the ground, propels it at Edvard with a hasty spell, where it begins to explode under the lich's lawn chair in exactly the same manner it had done just seconds ago.
Sounds good...Michael's bit is already set: when a crazy spell hits a mis-firing time loop, who knows what could happen?
kalestarveteran

08-11-07, 12:20 PM
Seeing that this could be very messy,Darius casts gate to the far realms on the explosion to negate it until the very fabric of reality comes apart as incanum, magic and belief twist and moan."In retrospect that was not a good idea."He turns to Edvard."Does reality turn upon itself often here."

Theres your rift in reality from somewhere beyond reality.
SeptimusMagistos

08-11-07, 02:23 PM
OOC: Well, I planned to keep him on one-word spells for a while, but since I want to be popular:D ...

BIC:
Nick looks uncertainly at the distortions of space and time and flips to the more advanced spells.

"Uh, hang on. This should fix it."

He then shuffles his leg to draw a small diagram on the ground, waves his left hand, and pronounces a complex jumble of different languages, followed by a rhyme.

"Split Infinity in two
Do whatever you can do
By the power of a thought
And the Multiverse in a dot
Let whatever happens be
And set all magics free!"

At this, the arena set to rumbling.

"Or maybe not."

At this, reality lost much of its coherence, becoming more bendable.

"I don't know why I thought that would work."

OOC: Okay, one spell for making simple situations complicated.
NorthWind

08-11-07, 02:24 PM
Michael wastes no time in flying away from the rapidly forming knot in reality under Edvard, a dense little tangle of flaring lights and inky shadows. He whips his arm in a wide arc, attempting to enspell his team to safety - a moment too late. The roiling tangle of magic implodes into an empty singularity.

Suddenly, all is silent in the arena. Total silence, so empty some of the devils in crowd actually shiver. But it doesn't last long. With a cacophonous roar the arena shakes and reality bends around the minuscule dot of energy. It begins to pull everything in the arena towards itself with a hungry intensity...until, without warning, it's pull reverses.

With a sickening lurch, the mysterious destination of the tiny gate is swapped with it's entrance. The arena finds itself somewhere else entirely, bathed in dark blue light. Floating under Edvard is a small silver loop, and through it can be seen a snatch of red sand and hellish sky.
Alright, first of all, let me know if this doesn't make any sense. Second, let me know if I've overstepped any boundaries here, what with turning Baator into another plane, and lastly, the specific destination...up to you guys.

I hate you for starting without me!
Fiora stares for a moment at the alien landscape before regaining her composure. Holding her hands out, she brushes them once down her body before turning to the others.

I embrace saidar and let it fill me, reaching for threads of Air and Spirit and shaping a cocoon around myself. I weave the threads with little fragments of Earth and Water as well, forming a suit of invisible, weightless armor about myself stronger than the hardest steel.
She gestures at the three enemy mages, and rock-solid spheres of green and white flame surround them.
I then reach for ropes of Fire and lash then together with ties of Air. I attach threads of Spirit, looping them through my opponents.

I smile.

The Far Realms... aka Khyber.

You are all now completely and utterly pwned.

With a surprised whoop and a flash of smoke and light, Edvard is catapulted into the air as the space-time continuem is torn. He lands in a tandgled mess with a loud "Oof!" a hundred feet away. He raises his hand in the air and gives the thumbs-up signal.

"I'm ok!"

Edvard gets up and dusts himself off and peers around in the inky blackness. Fiora's flames knock him off his feet again, but cause no real damage. Edvard warps his protective shield and bounces Fiora's weave back at her. He smiles broadly.

"Well, I think this just got very interesting."

He seems to talk to no one in particular.

"It's been a long time, hasn't it? Almost eleven thousand years, eh? You still look the same, Klazaggoth. But that's because you're immortal. Join the fun, the party's just getting started! Bring friends, if you like." His fiery eye winks at the blackness.

From the darkness, a creature fades into view. It has the beautiful features of an angel, with pale skin a rich blond hair. But that is where the smiliarities end. Its eyes are a blank white, and closer inspection reveals that it's pale skin is webbed with cracks. The thing wears armor that pulses with life, shifting and wriggling with a mind of its own. The creature has a flat expanse of shivering flesh wrapped around it's right hand, which flexes and unrolls into a sword.

The Daelkyr faces Edvard, and a silent conversation passes between them. The aberration turns to the other team, and points a clenched fist at them. Three more Daelkyr, smaller than the blonde-haired one, pop into existence and float towards the other team. The air flickers with destructive psionics as they attack.

The main Daelkyr, however, throws his sword into the sky. It writhes like a snake, then floats and glows a purple-black color. Almost instantaeneously, two dozen mind flayers materialize. A second later, twice that amount appear. The flayers all wear long black robes, but their skin is pulled tight against their bones, which can only mean one thing... illithid liches. The illithiliches unite as one and smash into the minds of the opposing team like a psionic wrecking ball.

The main Daelkyr stands back to watch as Edvard rights his lawn chair and sits back down with a broad smile.

"That should keep them, busy, eh?"

Fiora spares Edvard a glance as he lounges nonchalantly, the severed weave simply absorbing through her shield. She turns to the aberrations with a look of grim concentration and holds out her hand, palm out and fingers down. From it shoots a glowing, white-hot bar of liquid fire. It sears through the illithiliches, who turn into clouds of glittering motes and vanish.
Still holding the Source, I reach for threads of all Five Powers and wrap them around a tree-thick rope of Fire. Balefire. Even with saidar in me, I shiver. This weave, the one I am prepared to unleash right now, destroyed cities in the War of Power; wiped them out of the Pattern entirely, before they even existed. I brace myself against the backburn and release the weave.

"Well, I didn't know this was coming per se, but I knew weird things would happen as I came to have adventures. Weird things always happen. Still, I heard that this place drives people crazy. I must use the power of words to steel my mind."

Nick turns to a different section of his book and reads a passage

"The mind is a frail thing, safe only in its cocoon of illusions and lies, unprepared to face the truth. It creates order where there is only chaos. It shatters when the eyes it controls behold things outside of its comfort zone. But to be great, one must be prepared to face things one cannot even imagine. When the usual things have faded and nothing makes sense, that is when the mind must become strong and stable."

As he finishes reading these words, a strong, confident voice seems to begin to count. Numbers made of pure cosmic energy appear about the edges of the battlefield and descend one by one, forming rows and columns, slowly shutting out the mad things of the region around the arena.

Fiora stares intently at the wavering tentacles of shadow. She points her hand, casting scores of thin, wire-like lines of red flame out. The lines flash through the tentacles, severing them and scoring deep lines into the stone. Whipping back and forth as though alive, the lines turn on Darius, slashing at his face and body.
I grab a simple handful of unwrought Fire, and tie to each strand a handle of Air. I fling them at my attacker, jerking the pull-cords of Air to scythe across the area.
Without waiting for Darius' response, Fiora thrusts out the other hand and launches a stream of small fireballs at him, which explode around the mage with soft whumping sounds and whooshes of flame. With so many at once, the pressure simply builds as a warding cage of solid air forms around him.
I pull knots of Fire out, wrap them in Air, and toss them in a careful sphere around Xan, as I draw up a thick net of Air. I settle it around him, adding more woven sheets to fill the gaps as the ward comes together.

Well, I've always considered the deepest reaches of Xoriat are Khyber, and vice versa.

Nick's numbers crumble and collapse as the large Daelkyr turns and stares intently at them. Fiora's balefire rips through the illithiliches, but for every one she destroys two more appear. They continue their mental assault on the other team.

The first Daelkyr turns to Fiora, staring at her with blank eyes. He draws up his hands, and, to Fiora's amazement, begins to channel saidar. But the weaves of saidar seem only half complete, as if an invisible force was holding them together... saidin.

The Daelkyr thrusts out a fist and filaments of pencil-thin flames leap out at Fiora.

The second small Daelkyr floats towards Munchlord. It clenches both it's fists, and black plant-like vines tear out of the ground and wrap around the lich. They grow venus flytrap heads and try to bite the lich in half.

The third small Daelkyr flies up towards Michael and fires lasers of blue energy at him. The air around the beams crackles with terrible, flesh warping energy.

Edvard conjures up another martini and chugs half of it.

"Bah. This is Xoriat, realm of madness. Don't try to impose order here."

Edvard throws his martini out in front of him, and when it touches the ground oily black flames leap up. The flames disappear for a moment, then flare up around two members of the opposing team. The flames do not burn, but instead feed on the life force of Fiora and Michael. Munchlord is spared the flames, but instead an animated mace of red energy pops into existence and takes a swing at his head.

After the numbers crumble into tiny pieces, each piece becomes a tiny number of its own. Then they fly straight towards Nick and surround him.

"Madness, sanity-doesn't matter. Math transcends artificial definitions. It transcends...well, almost everything. There are a couple of things that are greater than it, but even this mad realm is, in the end, ruled by numbers, erratic though they may be. Here, let's see what I can do by changing the numbers a little bit and mixing them with words."

Nick takes a string of characters from his book and intertwines it with the number cloud. The weird hybrid created as a result disappears straight into Nick's head. As the first consequence, Nick grows to a tremendous height, towering over arena and his opponents and teammates. Even Darius's wave is just a puddle splashing at his feet.

"Wow. I'm tall."

Darius is still inside the cage, as it's sealed. Water can't get through it. (Heck, air can't!) And LB, can you make shorter posts? You're doing too much; I dunno about the rest of the duelists but I can't keep up.

As Darius transforms, a great hissing arises in the cage of Air. The lines of flame reach him as the firemalls detonate, boiling the elemental form away in a cloud of steam that fills the cage, unable to seep out.

Fiora looks over at Edvard and asks, "I gather the Pattern here is too tattered for a bit of balefire to matter, yes?" She stares at the first daelkyr for an instant as it channels, snapping her hand out like a knife blade at the last second. The flames vanish, their threads cut. She grits her teeth, glaring at the creature, and grabs a thin, fluted ivory rod from her satchel.
I feel my jaw drop as the glow of saidar surrounds the daelkyr. Not a second too slow, I wrench together a blade of Spirit, Fire, and Earth and slash the flows of Fire and Air coming at me. I see a dim echo of the Power, viler than a midden heap, raging like flame, threaded within the weave and I know the true danger here. Saidin. I draw deeply on the Source, pulling huge amounts of the Power through the sa'angreal in my hands. I weave Spirit, a shield with a bladed edge, that I fling between the creature and the Source to cut it off forever.
From one of Fiora's rings, apparently obsidian, comes a needle-thin bar of balefire. It strikes the martini glass on the ground, leaving a shimmering afterimage on everyone's eyes. The glass is gone, as are the flames, but not just gone; the glass is burned out of the Pattern. It was destroyed before the balefire hit it, and thus never hit the ground.

More balefire from Fiora's ring strikes the portal, unweaving it and causing the farspawn to vanish into the Pattern once more. She waves a hand at the cage, as though patting it down or smoothing it out.
I draw upon the Source again through the rod sa'angreal, patching the faltering sphere of Air with flows much too thick to burn through.
Fiora then draws the sursa from her belt and grasps them in two fingers. She reaches out toward Edvard and mimes picking up a bit of food with the lacquered sticks. Edvard finds himself hoisted into the air by invisible hands, which fling him into the path of the third daelkyr's beams at a twitch of the sursa. Fiora grins, and says, "Foreigners do not understand why we use the sursa. They think them an eccentricy, but we Domani know that the frustration that comes from trying to use them helps focus your mind."

Sursa are chopsticks, a sa'angreal is an object that allows a channeler to draw many thousands of times more of the Power than she could otherwise, saidar and saidin are the female and male halves, respectively, of the True source (saidin is tainted and drives you crazy), and balefire is a weave (spell) that instantly destroys something some time before the balefire hits it. The obsidian ring and Fiora's sursa are ter'angreal, or objects that use the Power. Just had to explain the WoT references, and that I'm not godmodding balefire.

To prove his point, Nick opens his book. He reads "FORK!" in a booming voice. However, this only produces a split road. He then repeats the incantation in a slightly different tone, creating a fork in his hand. He then hurls it at the tiny (compared to him) figure of Fiora.

Dude, Dragor, you're responding to a bunch of stuff I countered. The wave never left the orb and the tendrils o' darkness got balefire'd. You might want to edit.

Oo, yay, a physical attack!
Fiora ignores the giant fork entirely. You see why when a moment later, the utensil strikes the ground. She's standing between the tines.

Replacing the sursa at her belt, Fiora raises the ivory rod abover head and closes her eyes. A bead of sweat breaks her mask of calm composure as she seems to delve deep inside herself. Without warning, bolts of crackling lightning rush outward from her in all directions, heating the air to plasma and exploding with deafening thunderclaps. The lighning, sparking blue and green, strikes the illithiliches and daelkyr unerringly, scorching their alien flesh to ash in an instant.
I draw on the rod in my hands so deeply I worry it will melt. To this I add the flows from a dozen-odd angreal stored as jewelry and trinkets. Now I hold as much of the Power as the entire White Tower could linked; more. I have to consciously surrender again to saidar, the sweetness is almost too much. I draw deeper. With this much Power I could level a city; maybe two.

I form flows of Spirit, linking them to the Shadowspawn. Along those guideropes I string Fire and bind it together with Air, and release the flows. The source almost leaves me as I cease to draw on the angreal and sa'angreal, but I hold on. I feel drained; exhausted. I slump to my knees and breathe deeply, readying myself for the next assault.

"I don't know why I keep trying that. It never works." Nick grumbles. Then, looking at the fork more carefully, his mouth twitches into a hint of a smile.

"I call upon the instability of this mad region to destroy the order within that metal!" he yells in words of power. Eager to please, the chaos races to the silver of the fork and disrupts its stability, turning it into a flow of molten metal flowing straight at Fiora.

"Nobody ever sees a Master Ward until it's too late," Fiora says musically, seemingly to herself. The molten silver strikes a nearly invisible obstruction about 5 feet above Fiora's head. The air around her turns gray as the metal flows down a dome over the Aes Sedai's head. She smiles and moves her hands as though cupping something, and she flings the invisible something up at Nick's giant form.

With a splashing sound, the liquid silver gathers itself up and flies upward at great speed. The velocity shapes it into a great molten lance, which speeds straight for the giant boy's left eye.

I weave a cradle of Air and scoop the remenants of the boy's... fork ...together and lift them high into the sky, allowing the speed to twist my net into a spear. A the last possible second, I lash a thread of Fire around the net and slice the net of Air, re-boiling the metal.
To Darius, she says, "It's not so simple, child. Only another channeler, which you are not, could try to sever me. Removing my tool will not work." The hand gropes at her Master Ward for a moment before a thread of balefire from the ring burns it out of existence.

Unprepared for the spear, Nick forgets his spells. Instead, he raises his book to shield his face at the last possible moment. The spear hits the tome's covers and bounces off without leaving so much as a scratch.

"You do not impress me! You are as arrogant and self-rightgeous as the priests of the Gim-Lei Empire. Those poor, poor priests. You haven't even taken the time to analyze the abilities of your opponents. For example, while it is true that my book contains the power of words, it also contains...well, everything else! It was written by a civilization much more advanced in the study of magic than any of ours. In fact, they've reached the very edges of magic and learned ways to incorporate all ways of doing magic and unite them. And this book-it's an instruction manual. It contains all magic within it-every kind, not only from every plane or parallel multiverse, but also through the Infinite Realities. Every magic imaginable, they've mastered and wrote down. Your monopoly won't protect you anymore!"

With those words, Nick performed a quick incorporation of several magic styles which escaped the notice of those watching because some of it happened in an odd between-dimensions space. As he finished, a stream of pure energy escaped and wound itself around him to form a kind of magical armor. Then, a smaller stream of energy split off to hammer at the master ward surrounding Darius. As it wound itself around the ward, it slowly analyzed its magic and adapted to accommodate it, all the while trying to break and unravel it.

Whoa, this happened fast. So, Edvard's been tossed around again, and the Daelkyr have been balefired to hell and back, then torn from the Pattern? Ok, two can play at this game. Unfortunately, you forgot about Klazzagoth.

And I apologize about the lengths of my posts. I just wanted to be clear about what was happening.

I've also decided to make Michael untouchable, since Northwind is gone for now and it wouldn't be nice to take potshots at Micheal.

Edvard lands with a disgruntled Oof! again.

"What is it with chucking around the liches today? Sheesh!"

Edvard tosses a time warp spell over Michael, effectively trapping him for a few moments. Edvard dusts himself off and reaches for his martini, only to have it blasted by the balefire. Edvard stares at the glittering motes that were his martini glass.

"Oh no. You just destroyed my martini!" He slaps the back of a bony hand to his forhead and leans back mockingly, like a damsel in distress.

"Ooh! Someone knows how to use balefire! Fun fun!"

Edvard thrusts his hands out at Fiora, blocking out the sight of everything else. Fiora feels the sheer power of saidin even from her distance, and her hair stirs from its strength.

"Here, Fiora. Watch a True Master of the True Source." Edvard waves his hands, and a flicking streak of all five elements slashes through the ward Fiora has set up around herself and Darius. Edvard laughs as the phenomenally powerful wards a cut like paper before a sharp pair of scissors.

The lich balls his hands into fists, then flicks the fingers out.

A perfectly straight ray of balefire streaks out not from one finger of the mighty lich, but from all ten. The pure amount of saidin being used causes even the mighty Klazzagoth at his side to shift uneasily. The balefire cuts across the gap between Edvard and Fiora faster than you could blink, certianly faster than anyone could humanly move. Edvard scythes back and forth, the bars of liquid fire blinding white.

"Checkmate."

Yep. Edvard is channeling ten rays of balefire all at the same time. I told you that you were all screwed when we came to Xoriat/Khyber/Far Realms/Whatever You Want To Call It.

I stilled/gentled/severed Klazzagoth. And, dude, I thought no insta-kills was a general Baator rule. Balefire is unblockable and travels at the speed of light. Oh well, I can still turn this to the advantage of general mayhem.

And ten rays is nothing. Fiora knows a weave from the War of Power called balestorm, level 23 but with a 5-mile radius and 1 year backburn. 'nuff said. Oh, and kalestar? Just because the air will stop moving does not mean it will vanish. The pressure would remain. Except, now Edvard cut you out so nevermind.
The balefire flashes towards Fiora promising certain annihilation, but Edvard forgot to figure one thing into his weavings: her ring. The obsidian ter'angreal emits a needle-thin ray of balefire, which strikes the lich's weave in midair.

The balefires flash blindingly, filling the arena with sparkling motes of energy. The backlash of saidin knocks Edvard to the ground, clutching his head at the colossal amount of the Power lashing out around the arena. Fiora shrieks in pain as the ring liquifies on her finger, molten lava searing to the bone before dripping onto the ground.

The motes of light begin to coalesce, drifting upward to collect in a miniature sun above the duelists. "Light-blasted fool! Fiora hisses, obviously furious, Do you know what just happened? We may be the next ones ripped from the Pattern at this rate. She takes a deep breath to calm herself before continuing. I can fix this, but I need your help. I am going to hand you an object that you will recogize. You will not use it until I tell you to. I will then link with you. Together we might be able to repair this. Do you understand?

"Oh. Not good. Not good at all." he says. It's amazing how small his voice sounds considering his current size.

"There has to be something here somewhere." he mutters, leafing through his book "Everything is in here somewhere. Protection spells, resistance spells-oh. Mixing magics. Well, it worked well enough in the past-let's hope I get lucky again."

To start things off, Nick rambles a general resistance.

"Let me be as an extremophile. Let me survive anywhere. Let me live in heat and in cold, in acid or base, in any air or without any air, in salt, under pressure, with or without water, with any poisons, with any radiation, with any suppressors. Let me prevail over any challenges and live."

That said, Nick begins the much more dangerous and complicated task of mixing that spell with his energy armor to resist balefire. To start with, he withdraws the tendril of energy that was once responsible for trying to break the ward. Then, combining the energies with what the tendril learned of ward magics, Nick tries to incorporate the shield with his protection spell. For a moment, it looks like there is an explosion in the making, but he succeeds in completing the merge successfully, covering his body in a clear, transparent coating.

"Better. Much better." he sounds relieved.

Well... that's in the WoT campaign setting, right? I only go off of the books, because I find that using stuff straight from what I've read leads to better results.

And wouldn't drawing that much saidar simply kill every living thing within 5 miles anyway, including the weaver? Even if they had a couple of uber sa-angreal to help?

And it ain't an insta-kill... just a nearly unblockable, reality-tearing attack. Edvard hadn't unleashed his, remember? And Edvard's got another up his sleeve...

Edvard laughs at the pain in his head, revels in it. His single flaming eye burns with a gleeful light. The pain drains out of Edvard and rolls across his bones, pooling into a bloodred ball in his hands.

"Fix it? Now why would I want to do that?"

Edvard hurls the ball of pain at his feet, and with a rough syllable in some language, red light flares blindingly. The Daelkyr screech and flee, teleporting and slipping through space to get away from this red light.

And then the only thing anyone can feel is pain. Pure, agonizing pain. Pain so powerful, it weakens the knees, tightens the gut, and paralyzes the mind. Your nerves tingle with it, every part of you feels like it has been tossed into the fires of hell for eternity. Edvard's laughter, long and rolling, echoes across the pain-filled landscape, and he begins to gather a warping, semi-solid ball of roiling pain in his hands.

Eyes tearing at the pain, Nick focuses his brilliant mind on the problem. Though it's hard to think, he succeeds.

It's a spell from a D20 netbook. And the weave can only be cast be overchannelling with sa'angreal and linking.

Fiora collapses to the ground, screaming in agony, as though every nerve in her body has been set aflame and cut. Through the mask of pain on her face lie her eyes, completely calm and serene. Her muscles spasm, and by random happenstance one hand falls upon a clear quartz pendant, unworked but in the shape of a heart.

Her screams lessen in magnitude and her twitching slows as the color of the stone clouds to a rosy pink and then to a deep blood-red hue. She takes a deep, shuddering breath and the glow of saidar again surrounds her.

I form the rosebud again, embrace the Source and let the sweetness of saidar wash away the pain. I weave a net of Spirit, lash the ball of pain forming out of Edvard's hands and crush it, scouring the pain from my companion's minds as well. I then weave a thin condiut of Spirit out of my pendant, filtering the trapped pain into Nick's mind. I am sorry to hurt the boy, but he is closest and can eliminate it quickly.
"Lich, you do not understand. The power gathering here is the essence of balefire. If it is released, we will all be burned out of the pattern and this... plane... will be severed as well."

So saying, she lifts a pair of crystal statuettes out of her satchel. One resembles a bearded man holding a sphere, and its twin is a woman holding the same. "The Choedan Kal, or at least the access keys. I need someone of your strength to add to the flows. Link with me, and we can put this right. Fail to do so, and the consequences could be... severe."
Lord_Bahamut

08-18-07, 03:20 PM
Fiora's lash of Spirit simply bounces off the ball of pain, all though the red ball does shrink in size as the fighters shut out their pain. Edvard listens to Fiora, his head cocked to one side. Red lightning crackles in his eye sockets, and leaps across his teeth.

"But my dear Fiora... this realm is already severed from where it came, and so what difference does it make to me if it is destroyed? You forget, I cannot be burned from the Pattern. Perhaps this physical vessel will be utterly destroyed, but it is one of many I have prepared." He rolls his eyes and gives an exasperated sigh (no easy feat if you have no lungs).

"But if you insist, we can do it this way."

Edvard thursts his hands, palms out, at the ground and boiling red lightning blasts out. The lightning rages for a second, then with a roar breaks the dimensional walls and opens a ten foot gateway back to Baator.

"Time is a-wasting... And don't forget that Michael, over there." He gestures at Michael's prone form, still trapped within the time warp spell.

Fiora walks gingerly over to Edvard, her muscles still twinging with the aftermath of Edvard's curse. She hands him the male statuette, the access key, and says, "Here. I assume you know how to recieve a link? I'll begin."

I am nervous. I admit, I'm not sure if this will succeed. But I have to try.

I release the Source, and all the enhanced life that comes with it. I look out, as though through a window in my soul, and see Edvard standing patiently with the access key. Time to go. I reach out through him, through his key, though the sa'angreal it connects to, and dip into saidin.

Where saidar is a calm river, saidin is a rapids. Where saidiar is sweet, saidin is as vile and bitter as a midden heap. Where saidar asks surrender, saidin demands a fight. I wrestle with the raging power, subduing the forces for a moment before being engulfed again in a rage of fire and ice. At the same time, I must surrender to saidar or risk being pulled under by the flows. My face breaks out in sweat.

I draw deeply on both access keys, nearly losing the Power as I taste the taint again, fouler than anything imaginable. Gritting my teeth, I begin to weave.

Threads of Fire, Water, Earth, and Air form lashes, tying the balefire residue together, searching for all the leftover scraps of Power scattered all over the plane. Spirit weaves a great tube, formed of twin weaves overlapping; gaps in the rope-thick strands of saidar are filled with mirror-image weaves of saidin. I draw deeper, shuddering in ecstasy and pain as I pull more of the Power into me. The tube lengthens, and I begin to drag the balefire towards it inch by inch.

As the weave scraps reach the other end, I realize I have nowhere to put it. I gasp to Edvard, "Where?"

The Daelkyr Munchlord had grabbed could not escape from the ball of pain, but when the pain wased over, Munchlord's strength falthered, and the Daelkyr fled. Munchlord mumbeled what could sound both like an inchantation and a curse. Then he inscribed a rune and a name in the air. The name was LOEX. Then the pain left his mind and he could think and work unhindered again.
"Portals from this place difficult? You have to be kidding, portals to the anchor of the void is a little challenging, but from here, HA!. Lets highen the stakes a little?"
Munch starts inscribing a complicated rune.

Nick looks at the ten foot gateway and at himself.

"Suddenly I no longer mind being short. I really don't think I'd be harmed-I'm barely even part of the pattern. Still, if there is a way to fix this, I think you should do it. I'm studying astrophysics right now, and I'm pretty sure that if one plane collapses, it can't be good for the rest of them."

Edvard gives a long sigh, and takes the male statuette from Fiora.

"If you insist. You're all no fun."

He copies Fiora's weave, but with saidin. He gathers the tatters of the Power still around him together, and links smoothly with Fiora. He transfers power to her, and flops backward into another lawnchair.

Munchlord finish scribing his rune. The rune is alight in all colors of the rainbow in a strange symmetrical pattern not matching the shape of the rune itself. The rune is circular in shape and about 2 feet across. A powerful field of magical energy starts forming in a dome around the arena, without blocking Khyber though. Then Munchlord reach up and inscribe another rune into thin air. It extend tendrils of power into the breach of the weave. Soon it is all sucked in and at first no-one notice any change. Then Fiora and Edvard do, as the fracture suddenly become far more... complicated is not the right word, but it is what come closest. Now it is way harder to repair.
SeptimusMagistos

08-22-07, 11:06 AM
Nick notices the change (He has something similar to permanent arcane sight, though more effective, but he usually tunes it out when in presence of constant magic. He turned it back on after the master ward fiasco, though).

"Are you trying to get this place annihilated? Seriously, destroying a plane is considered very bad manners where I come from, and doing so while you're actually in it is the height of discourtesy."

With that, Nick flips his book back over to the simpler spells.

"Bee...Billion...Bomb...Yes, this should keep you busy do if you're that desperate for something to do."

"BILLION BEE BOMBS!"

At this, a huge swarm of bees appears out of nowhere and headed straight for Munchlord.

As the threads float out the end of my tube of Power, I realize what I must do. Gripping the bits firmly, I tug on the loose ends. With an inaudible puff, the knot of balefire dissipates. I move to the next knot, and another, moving my way down the weaves, picking apart the stuff that threatens to pick apart our multiverse. The irony is astounding.

As Munchlord, my supposed ally, begins to scribe his rune, I get a sese of foreboding. A moment later my fears are proved true as the threads I had been untying begin to whip around, avoiding my grasp. I manage to grip another nd find it slick and oily. It slips out of my grasp, and I try again. And again. And again, until finally I catch hold of another. I pull and the knot loosens. I tug again. It becomes tight. A third time: the knot falls to pieces, scorching a nearby clump of threads into oblivion.

Damn that Lord of Munches!

I cast a net (definitely a net, not a shield) of Spirit over the tube's end, allowing knots to pass through one at a time. On the next knot, I tie a loop of Fire and Spirit and toss it around the tangle of Power. I pull tight, and the threads sear through the balefire and slice the thread. It vanishes.

I repeat this on a larger scale, looped through the tube. When it tightens, the backlash of energy sears the inside of the tube, but it holds. Rinse and repeat.

The last I say out loud, and I can feel the twisted energies of Xoriat warping my words into weaves. Spirit and water twine together, making a wave that crashes down through my tube, cleansing it and renewing the scarred inside. At the same time, a wave falls in the clearing, dousing everyone and washing away the fatigue and pain my teammates have ineviitably begun to feel. It cannot do the same for me, sadly. True to my words, about 5 seconds later the wave falls again, in the clearing and the tube. I cut the threads of another dozen knots as it passes. The balefire is less now, little enough that I feel comfortable diverting a trickle of Power to form a second loop. The going is faster now.

I take a deep breath and exhale slowly. Not fast enough.

...well, that was fast. I'll just cash in all those missed days of posting with this latest installment...get everyone back to the Baator and such, if that is agreeable to all.
Meanwhile...

Before Michael has any time to respond, local time grinds to a halt - or at least, from Michael's perspective. Floating prone in a sphere of altered time, it seems as if everything that has happened up until this moment had been compressed into a single, blurry second.

Until the spell drops the celestial unceremoniously onto the shifting ground, the bubble becoming dark and opaque as time truly stops within it. The youth picks his head up off of the ground and looks around. "Whoa. This looks bad." Michael raises an eyebrow and smiles ironically "But I suppose you don't need to hear it from me, hmm? Well, Edvard was so good as to lend me some time," Michael flips over onto his back, floating just inches over the shifting, bluish ground, and waves up at the dark spell "And it's a real shame to waste it."

Michael floats into a standing position, and spreads his arms out wide, and the black bubble expands to encompass all the combatants. Michael snaps his fingers, and all hell breaks loose outside of the sphere - everything that has transpired is happening in reverse - time is rushing past the bubble at breakneck speed, whirling ahead as it leaves the six mages behind. As soon as the outside of the bubble is again the Baator, Michael snaps his fingers and the sphere pops.

"There you go - out of the Far Realms, before anyone could damage the...eh," Michael looks at Fiora, about to open his mouth to ask a question...but a thunderous roar from the arena goers drowns out his words, and with a dramatic swell of music, and a volley of fireworks, a familiar voice begins speaking - "Arena goers! Fortune smiles upon you -for the first time in seven hundred years, Sorcen Anenooata and his judges present to you the Mage Duel. Within mere hours, the magicians will assemble here, and the Duel of Wizards, il Viritim Pugnare delle Magi, will commence!"

Six figures appear, various spells bringing them to the arena - two liches, a celestial, a young woman, a youthful mage, and a man in crimson robes.

"Damn...hadn't thought of that."
If that either doesn't make sense, or is a little too over the top, please let me know, and I'll fix it.

08-23-07, 06:06 AM
But now Munchlord is linked with Xorait, and the time warp spell draw a part of it with him, as well as the large rune he had inscribed earlier. The part of Xorait that follow him through time is the part with the hole in reality that Fiora had tried to fix. The large chunk of Xorait floats over Munchlord's head while he insrcibe another rune with two of his arms. This once again work against Fiora's attempts to repair reality.
Meanwhile the energies around the arena begins to change, gathering in tousands of discs. These discs end up unfolding into portals leading to everywhere of importance in the multiverses of origin of all of the combatants, as well as some of the most personally important places of the combatants, including to Edvard's phyletracy. All combatants feel which gates are linked to them, but they do not know which portals are linked to the others.
With his remaining 4 hands, munchlord create small orbs of runes that fly to connect with the brows of his allies.
Suddenly Fiora hear Munchlord's voice in her mind.
"Do not worry, I have a plan, but keep doing your best to disarm the rift."
This communication goes beyond normal telepathy in security, for it is impossible to breach unless you manipulate the runes themselves, and that require you to touch... and to be an expert rune mage.

"Okay. That's crossing the line. Well, as long as we're playing with time..."

At this Nick pointed his finger at himself and yelled out "AGE!" After a split-second flash, Nick was still standing there. But instead of his boyhood self, he was a man of mid-thirties. His stride was confident, his stare was bold, and he wore a cape.

"I don't like you. You'd better start explaining or else."

With a wave of his hand he opened yet another portal. This one led to...nothing. Absolutely nothing.

"Hey, the world could definitely use more of us, huh? The boss won't be thrilled, though."

After a few short exchanges in celestial, they fall to working two different spells - the Michael from the past begins to conjure clay while his future double flings silver spears at the Edvards.

Fiora grins delightfully at her double. "This is great! I wonder, if Nick there doesn't mind balefire, whether he'd like a universe-tearing amount. Can you help me with these weaves?"
I embrace the Source, linking with myself twice. I use the female access key to draw, linked, more Power than Edvard and I had together. (Of course, the first Edvard is still linked in with me anyway.) I look up at my weaves, hanging in midair, and begin pouring more balefire into the tube I had made. The whole conglomeration begins to glow brighter than three suns, and I quickly tie the ends shut. I pull the parcel down to earth and yank the ends open.

I cover my eyes and wait for the screams.
From an indistinct point in midair, a pale glow seems to emanate. It gets brighter, and brighter still, until it seems the sun is floating in front of you. Then twin bars of light, each more than as thick around as a man is tall, project out at Edvard's double and Nick's. The bars burn a flickering afterimage onto everyone's retinas and anything in their path dissolves into sparkling motes.

"All right, this is getting asinine. Threatening me is one thing, but threatening others is different."

With that, the Oblivion portal moves around in a complicated loop, passing the other portals through it. As each portal falls into Oblivion, it disappears. In a second, there are no other portals around. While the portal is doing so, Nick contemplates the scene. He notices the balefire heading for him.

The portal to Oblivion disappears and reappears right in front of the balefire headed for Nick. It passes harmlessly through the portal and disappears into Oblivion. The destruction of nothing proceeds. And the double negative creates a positive that is at the same time a negative in the form of a tiny bead-shaped voidstone. However, the sheer amount of nothing contained within is is especially nonexistent.

"I've had enough of broken reality for a while. Now I shall impose order on this!"

With that, the Oblivion portal disappears too. Nick flings open his book to the middle (which is much farther than he'd ever opened it before) and reads something. He's not reading it aloud, though. The spells this far in have no need for clumsy verbal components. Order returns as everything slows down and seems to very slowly return to normal. The collapse of time is frozen and the reality disruptions begin to repair themselves.

OOC: Basically, Nick is channeling Primal Order in huge quantities to this place.

That much balefire? It doesn't matter where it goes, the portal (opening, whatever) would be annihilated. If the balefire went through, Oblivion would cease to exist. Trust me, you don't want that happening.

Alright, before I continue posting Michael's actions, I'd like to clarify everything up to this point. I'll admit that I'm slightly lost with what's going on with a.) the balefire and other weavings (which may be because I've yet to read the books in question) and b.) what's going on with all these portals?

Also, if any of what Michael's doing is confusing, please let me know, I'll clear it up.

How do you destroy nothingness? With balefire.

And NW, Balefire is a white ray of flame, brighter than liquid light, that destroys anything in its path and burns it out of existence before the balefire struck it.

As soon as the Michael from the past completes sculpting the clay he conjured, the explosive wave of chaos reaches him. Unable to call any magic to his defense, he looks at it, stunned.

It would seem about to slam into him, when a burst of silver fire erupts from the ground, consuming it.

Michael looks to his future double "Hey, nice save!"

"Hey, I do what I can!"

As the flames dissipate, the sculpted clay is reveled - before the past Michael stands a lithe, slender clay man, a thread-bare red cloak about his shoulders. Michael pulls a large, ornate silver spoon from the pocket of his jeans, and engraves a word on it's forehead with it, and the figure's eyes open. Michael begins chanting, walking a careful circle around the man, and when he finishes, it begins to move.

"I'll bet you've never seen a golem like this...a man named Loew taught me a few things." Michael points at Nick, and the clay man begins running swiftly towards his elder version.

The Fioras drop to the ground as the wild magic wave passes over them, waving their hands upward and shunting the power away by about a foot. They leap up and look at each other. "Remember when we came to the Tower?" one Fiora asks the other.

"I remember," her double replies, "Sheriam Sedai tried to teach us her way of using the Power. Eugh, I wish I hadn't remembered that now."

"But you remember the first time? When we carved that poor mugger up?" Her double nods."You remember how to use the Power like that, without thinking?" She nods again. "Let's try it!"

With that, they both turn and begin hurling handfuls of green fire at the young Nick. One fireball elongates in midair, becoming lightning. Another warps into a wall of flame between Fiora and Nick. A third vanishes entirely, while a fourth whooshes into a heat-haze of clear flame.

"This is FUN!"
SeptimusMagistos

08-26-07, 11:37 AM
Nick focuses on the wild magic and with a quick series of flowing hand gestures weaves a net of odd energies.

"Golems. That's bound to be trouble. Good thing I've got this, then."

As he finishes the net, it catches something far, far away and brings it forth. What is revealed is a huge man-thing. Its features are sharp and distorted, somewhat like a troll's. The horrid harridan extends its fingers which have long ugly claws on them and puts them over the golem in a strange cage. It's hard to quite see how mere fingers manage to put themselves into this formation, but it's a sure bet that the wild magic is helping.

"Come on, 's that all?" both Michaels turn to look at the two constructs.

The smaller golem raises it's arms, and the monstrosity encasing it begins to glow a red-hot, until the entire thing catches fire. With a horrible stench, it's engulfed in a huge blaze.

As the ashes drift down, the small clay golem continues it's charge.

Munchlord looks amused as the Oblivion destroy his portals. Although the magic of the gigantic rune would seem to be destroyed, it presist... and so does the powerful magic aura it emenates.
Suddenly the magic aura double of him emerge from the body and flies to Nick. The large rune disappear and then reappear inscribed one his chest. The aura double seems to be gone, but then you notice that it once again exist where Munchlord is.
Munchlord starts inscribing six runes in the air, and the aura makes moves like inscribing as well, but no runes appear. Insted the rune on Nick grow and expand to cover his whole torso.
SeptimusMagistos

08-27-07, 10:29 AM
As the attacks reach young Nick, they meet an unbreakable shield of pure energy with its spell anchor being the older Nick. As a result, they do no damage.

Meanwhile, the older Nick is momentarily distracted by the rune on his chest.

"Writing things on me is just rude."

Nick then performed a difficult chain of metaphysical and philosophical processes to separate himself and his basic nature and reappear whole several feet to the right of the hollow shell that was him. Enough of him, anyway, to fool the rune.

"Now, then, to answer your question, Michael, I do have other creatures who deserve whatever they get by appearing here. For example, this one."

With that, another creature appeared in front of the golem. This one was very different. It seemed to be a slime of some sort, with vaguely defined eye and mouth shapes. However, it was clearly not a natural creature. Those with high ranks in spellcraft could identify that its body seemed to be made up mostly of potions, though it also contained runestones, muck, poisons, bits and pieces of magical items, and something else not entirely recognizable. It's emanating strong magics, but its aura seems to be crudely patched out of hundreds, perhaps thousands of smaller effects. It advances on the golem, its maw wide open.

As for the time thing-simply because I am much more powerful at this age. I've had time to learn much more magic. As you can see I'm not using my book right now, because I no longer need to read every spell directly from it. With age comes experience and power. If you're a mage, that is. Otherwise, you just get back pains. The effects on the future, now-I think I'll be fine. Can't speak for you."

The black sphere around the pair of Edvard's seems to harden for an instant, and Michael's silver spears shatter like glass when they lance into it.

Fiora's balefire streaks across the arena, and hole in the air twists into place before it. The balefire streaks into the hole, and simultaneously another hole opens before Fiora and her double. The balefire goes in one hole and blasts out the other, the Aes Sedai's own weave her destruction.

The thunderclouds overhead begin to rumble even louder, and with a roar a lightning bolt flickers between the clouds and lances down into the arena, blasting sand and dirt into a fountain. The lightning, instead of disappearing, seems to gather in the crater, and soon a nightwalker-like beast climbs out. It's body is made from purple crackling energy, and it's claws are made from white lightning.

The clouds steadily grow in size, until the entire arena is shrouded by shadow. The two clouds rumble almost contunously now, and seem to join together to from one, massive storm front. Purple-white lightning flashes through the clouds, seeking a way to the ground.

Two strobes of light punctuate the growing darkness, leaving afterimages on the vision of the combatants. Where Michael's golem was and where Nick's potion-construct was, there are now only two blackened craters.

The clouds roar again, and the air virtually glows with the sheer buildup of electricity.

Fiora waves her hand and the balefire stream splits, as though around the prow of a boat. The fractured streams wrap around, curving back to strike at the lightning-beast from both flanks. The beams, somewhat unusually, do not dissapate as they normaly would. They streak about inside the beast's carapace, finally lashing out its eyes. They lance down light the lightning a moment before, but this time lunging for the elder Nick. Meanwhile, you realize the Aes Sedai aren't directing it. They are preoccupied with something in their hands, huddled together whispering.

"Well, that saves me the bother of the ooze...but the other one," Michael nods towards Edvard's monstrosity.

"Right, you work on Edvard, I'll take care of the golem?"

"Sure thing. Hey! Hey, in the crater! You're creator's still in peril. Get up here, 'fore I put you back in the attic were I got your dust!" Indeed, it is only dust that slithers out of the crater, a thin mote of fine ash. The Michael from the past waves his hand over it, silver ring blazing with light, and the ashes coalesce into the slender clay figure they once comprised...however, some of the purple runes on it's arms certainly weren't there before...

Meanwhile, the Michael from the future takes flight, nimbly darting past the creature, and pulling from the feathers off his lower wings a pair of gold swords, rushes towards the two liches, winging low, blades held wide so as to decapitate the corpses.

The lightning beast screeches, and explodes in a shower of glittering light. Edvard realizes that he contributed to the balfire, and abruptly yanks himself out of the link with Fiora.

The thunderclouds seem to roar at the insolence of this celestial and his golem. A lightning bolt at least twenty feet wide slams down to earth with enough force to throw all the combatants (except Edvard and his past double) to the ground like toys. Other, smaller lightning bolts, rain down like the bars to a cage around the massive bolt, in a deafaning roar of thunder.

Michael can see nothing past the black orb that surrounds the two liches, but the two liches can see Michael. Edvard's past casts a spell that turns Michael's swords to molten metal, and Edvard's present throws a sliver of blue flame at Michael.

whoops,forgot about that sphere...

Michale drops the rapidly melting blades in shock, but is unable to change his momentum, and takes the sliver of flames head on. Thrown to the ground several yards away, smoke rising from his unconscious form.

His past double begins to work a spell, quickly concluding the chant with a downward motion of his arms. Taking to the air before the shockwave of the thunder can knock him off his feet, Michael holds out his hands, and with a quick flick of his wrist, a wall of translucent force rushes out to meet all of his opponents.

The golem runs up ahead of the assault, to aim a punch at Darius' gut.

The past Fiora glances up and sees Michael's crumpled form lying inert on the ground. She waves her hands as though parting a curtain and steps through the resulting opening in the air. Kneeling at the celestial's side, heedless of the dust and blood on the ground, she bends over and whispers in his ear, "You'll be all right."

She lays her hands on his cheeks and cradles his head gently. An icy tingle runs through his body, and then a frigid shock. He twitches, and his eyes open with a start.

Her future self turns her bomdardment of flames onto Edvard, pulling him forcibly back into the link and holding him there. She uses his power, drawn through the access key, to pull a torrent of burnished golden lightning down from his own stormclouds at his double.

Nick pulls an Absolute Apathy spell to cause all entities, non-entities, and forces to forget about him for a minute. He uses the time to move away from his previous location and drop a note to Darius which explains his position.

"Beats me. As I said, I'm pretty sure I'll be fine. I'm not sure what the consequences may be for anyone else. But I'm pretty sure me messing with my age as such won't do any damage to time. Not anymore than any of the other crazy things done here, anyway."

Meanwhile he checked his list of creatures that fully deserved death. Most of them didn't stand a chance with the heavy spells flying around, so he put it back into his pocket and opened the BOOK OF MAGIC to look for other ideas. He finally found a spell that looked fun. Unfortunately, it required a prayer and Nick did not believe in asking the gods for anything. Mostly since there were no gods where he first came from. There was only one thing people referred to in any sense near to divine. He sighed and started chanting.

"Oh Powers That Be, I call upon your aid. Please use your endless store of bad ideas and your tendency to mess with mortals against my enemies instead of me for a change. Smite someone who deserves it for once!"

The Powers That Be answered his request, as per the spell. Nick was the only mortal The Powers That Be corresponded with directly. So, to answer his plea, they summoned two giant twenty-sided dice and had one head for Fiora and one for Michael.

The Michael of the past nimbly dodges the falling die, evidently trying not to laugh "What is this thing? Someone conjured a...ehm..." he shrugs, then promptly begins conjuring a tiny, white sphere of blinding light. He looks into it's brilliant depths, and then smiles...he begins casting a spell on the entity he sees within it.

A streak of light descends from the heavens, speeding towards someone a few yards away from the other combatants...a brilliant falling star is rushing right for Nick...

The Michael from the future shudders and gasps, eyes opening, and he struggles to his feet. "Hey, thanks for that!" Although two of his wings look bent, he takes flight, rising high above the combatants.

Fiora's ring launches a tiny thread of balefire, insignificant against the great die. The thread strikes the icosahedron in midair and vanishes. Then, as though in slow motion, the die becomes nothing, evaporating into the great Oblivion.

The past Fiora extends a hand and is lifted gently into the air, taking Michael's hand and straightening his wings. From their joined hands extends a glowing blade of golden fire, flecked with streaks of all the rainbow colors. It wavers slightly in the spectator's eyes, shimmering with a blinding heat-haze of magic. She says to him, "Let's try that again." With that, she tugs his arm and the pair speed towards the Edvards.

The die that disappeared into Oblivion truly disappeared and had no effect. However, the other die...fell on the ground, rolled past, and stopped. The roll was...20. At that, the great die became transparent and disappeared to show a strange light inside it. A booming voice accompanied it.

"IS NOT A MAN JUDGED BY HIS ACTIONS? WELL, ACTUALLY...NO, NOT REALLY. A MAN IS JUDGED ONLY BY THE WHIMS OF GODS. HOW, THEN, IF THERE ARE NO GODS? THE JUDGMENT IS SIMPLY DISPENSED WITH. YET IF THERE ARE NO GODS, THEN WHAT DO PEOPLE BELIEVE IN? PERHAPS THEY CREATE IN THEIR MINDS A MYSTERIOUS UNCERTAINTY AND WORSHIP IT. AND IN THEIR CONFUSION, PERHAPS THEY HIT UPON THE TRUE CREATOR OF THEIR WORLD. BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT. THE POINT IS, THE DIE HAS BEEN ROLLED, AND YOU ARE THE LOSER. THEREFORE, YOUR FATE HAS BECOME, TO A SMALL DEGREE, SUBJECT TO THE SAME TOMFOOLERY AS THE FATES OF THE INHABITANTS OF NICKOLOBOLD'S REALM. FOR EXAMPLE..."

With that, the light transformed into Michael's vision of the perfect woman.

Nick, meanwhile, having distracted the forces that have toyed with him for so long, looks up at the falling star.

"Hm. I doubt this will be a physical attack. I'd better stand right in front of it."

He immediately does so.

If you wanna meet in the tavernne latter, I'm sure I'll have enough body mass to hang around." He raises his arms, carefully looking over his shoulder to make sure that the woman is watching his spellwork, and brings them sweeping down, hurling a huge, crackling tongue of bluish flames at Darius...a little too much fire, apparently... when the flames dissipate, the tip of Michael's nose seems to be slightly scorched. Taking it in stride, he looks behind him - "Yeah, I'm just so hot that I burn myself sometimes. It Happens."

The Michael flying with Fiora turns for a split second to look, and rolls his eyes - "You're kidding...did I really say that? I must have matured a lot in the past few hours."

Meanwhile, the shooting star rushes down - indeed, it is a tiny, white star hurtling towards the ground, and it rushes into Nick's chest, painlessly sinking into him. It would seem at first that northing's happened, until with a start, Nick finds spells slipping from his memory...

"Hey, I just got a great idea!"
EpicEvokerElf

Fiora replies, "And what might that be?"

Down on the ground, Fiora stares at the spectacle of Michael's asininity with an incredulous expression on her face. "Men." She waves a hand and the illusion wavished, returned to the light from whence it came.

She turns on Nick. "Who do you think you are, toying with the laws of the multiverse like that? I might just cut you down to size myself." With that, she makes a sharp cutting motion with her hand, at about little-Nick's head level on big-Nick. Nothing happens for a moment, but then big-Nick begins to shrink...

08-29-07, 05:35 PM
As Fiora waves her hand, she realizes the woman was no illusion. However, realizing she is no longer wanted, she fades away. But not as light. Instead, she transforms into a huge stinking cloud heading for Fiora in a colossal wave.

Under assault from two powerful spells, Nick does the only thing he can think of-opens his book and casts a variation of Dispel Magic on himself, creating a momentary flash of anti-magic on his own person. A split-second later he disappears, being, of course, a magical consequence himself. However, the younger Nick does instantly gain the memory of the events which transpired before the time-swirl. He stands, dazed, and realizes the anti-magic worked on him too.

"Oh. No."

At that instant, Nick became irresistible to every female who could see him. The exact nature of the irresistibility is different for everyone, but his appearance as such didn't change. Merely the perception of him.

Fiora's flames cross the gap between her and Edvard in an instant, and the liches are surrounded in flame... But as the smoke clears, that black sphere remains untouched. Chanting can be heard from within.

The chanting rises to a roaring crescendo, and the black storm growls eagerly. Thundering like an enraged beast, the storm unleashes it's complete fury on the arena. Thousands of purple lightning bolts writhe down to earth like snakes, and every place they strike a lightning beast leaps forth. The storm continues to roar, and now a terrible wind begins to sweep around the arena. At the center of the wind, in the only calm spot, sits the past and present Edvards, protected by their black shell. Soon the storm whips itself up to hurricane strength winds, and bits of the stone floor of the arena a lifted into the air and hurled around, razor sharp shrapnel waiting to hit someone.

And then, with a terrific boom, a thunderbolt almost a mile wide crashes down to the ground, engulfing everything in a blast of magic so powerful the arena safeguards can barely contain it. The light fades, the dust (or what's left of it) settles, and then the two Edvard's can be seen. The black globe that shielded them lies in pieces on the floor of the arena... which is twenty feet lower than it was a moment ago.

Both of the Edvard's shout simultaneously, and fall into a tangled heap of arms and legs and flapping black robes. They separate themselves with muttered, "That's my leg!" and "Hey, I'm missing a rib!", then get up. One sways dangerously, looking a little drunk.

"There's no blood in my alchohol, officer!"

His double slaps him across the face with a bony clack, and the first Edvard snaps out of it.

"Wow, that was quite a shocker."

One of the Edvards gives his double a reproving look from under his hat.

"That was baaaad, dude. Sheesh, you would have thought I could come up with something better."

"42! 73! Aes Sedai! Celestial! Hike!"

The football is passed back, and the past Edvard dashes forward as the present Edvard shuffles back and looks among imaginary teammates for an opening. Head whipping back and forth, he sights his double (who is waving his arms a hundred yards away) and throws the football. The ball flies through the air, and crosses Fiora and Michael's path. "And you thought I'd forget about that one, huh?" The diminutive golem flings it's larger counterpart across the arena, where it promptly explodes in a cloud of sand.

Michael whirls around to confront the next threat, and he turns to see...himself. Although he wears identical clothes, his doubles's face has a cold, feral look, it's eyes and cheeks angled in a predatory fashion. It's eyes are dark - neither light nor hope escapes the inky pupils, and it stands a few inches taller than Michael. The celestial Michael starts, taking a step back from this apparition, as it glares coldly at him. They stare at one another, slowly circling, pacing back and forth.

"So. You used the kid to get here? Did you 'inspire' him to cast that spell?" Michael says calmly.

"Well...the wards your friends laid didn't figure on an extraplanar caster. That group of yours...obviously they died for no cause...your binding didn't hold on me. Did you really think that would keep me from you?"

"I...you killed them! I had nothing to do with that! I didn't...I didn't kill them." Michael's voice seems to trail off quietly.

"Well, let's see what would happen...if you decided to bind your other half instead!" and the fiendish double lunges towards him, conjuring a thin black sword. Michael hastily sidesteps, conjuring a silver weapon of his own, and slices at his double. Catlike, he rolls under the blade, aiming another slash at Michael...the duel goes on across the arena, both dodging and rolling to avoid the whirling steel of their foe. With their free right hands, they conjure flames, Michael's blue, his double, black. Blocking flames with their blades, sinuously dodging blows and flares of light, they move around the arena, unawares of the fighting raging around them, unable to be reached by any spell or hand, friend or foe. For a moment, they pause, panting and sweating. Tiny beads of blood appear on Michael's arms, and his doubles's chest is burned, t-shirt naught but cinders. It isn't long, though, until they are at it again, turning and rolling, flames flying around them fiercely.

Meanwhile, the Michael of the future flings his hand out, and in a blaze of white flames, the icy shadows are forced back, away from both Fiora and Michael...

As the fire strikes Nick, he flinches, unable to cast a spell to protect himself. However, as the flames pass, he finds himself totally unharmed. He watches, wide-eyed, the events that follow immediately after.

"But...I...How did I...How did he...What...But...Why..."

However, his confusion appears abated in a moment as his eyes spring open even whiter and fill with white light. The sign of infinity inscribes itself on his forehead and the BOOK OF MAGIC fades from sight. He floats up stiffly, like a puppet. Then his hands fly up. He emits a piercing cry that's halfway between sound and magic. Then he flies from one end of the arena to the other, tearing reality even further in his twain. He stops a millimeter before hitting the wall and goes upright again. Then he raises his hands and smiles stiffly.

The present Edvard continues his announcement.

"And just where are those ref's? Surely they aren't - Waaagh!"

The flames erput beneath him, and he goes flying into the air. His double winces at the impact, and there is an audible crunch of breaking bones.

"Well now, that wasn't nice."

The past Edvard turns on this new arrival.

"You like to play with fire? Careful you don't get burned..."

He flings his hands (which are suddenly on fire) towards the Asha'man, and meteors rain down around him. Sweeping his arms in a circle, Edvard leaves an oval-shaped ring of fire suspended in the air. Chanting, the flames roar together, then part into a portal. Suddenly a stampede of nightmares and other various flaming equine creatures thunder from the portal, straight at the Aes Sedai and her companion. Edvard quotes in a high, feminine voice,

"Gallop apace, you fiery footed steeds! Blah blah... And bring in cloudy night immedieately!"

Darkness falls rapidly, and the only light comes from the flames along the beast's backs as they thunder across the arena.

In the distance, however, flares of flickering light can be distinguished by all of the combatants - the duel between Michael and his double can still be seen, their silhouettes clearly visible in the light of their arcane fire, and clashing blades. The nightmare beasts stop, sniffing the air and pawing the ground.

The fight continues, silence slowly coming over the audience as their attention is drawn to the spectacle. Both combatant's movements seem less precise, more sloppy, as they lunge and slash again and again, trying to put an end to their foe - until one succeeds. Michael whips out his right hand, blasting his dopple off his feet, where he lands in a heap. Panting, Michael can be seen by the light of the flames in his hand...tired, but victorious, he turns his back on the fiend, and begins to walk away.

But he hasn't gone more than three or four paces when he stumbles and gasps, clutching his chest. His silver sword falls to the arena floor, as if in slow motion. With a gasp from the audience, Michael's double materializes behind him, his hand holding the dagger that now pierces Michael's chest. He grins wickedly, and slowly, imperceptible at first, the color drains from Michael. His shocked expression is frozen, his red t-shirt and blue jeans turn gray. The dopple holds up his right hand, red flames shining forth, and the beasts of terror shriek and neigh in delight - one of their own has come.

The monsters and nightmares thunder across the arena, rallying behind their victorious kin...

Nick continues to smile stiffly and raises his hands. At that moment, his teammates are teleported behind him (Unless, of course, they would prefer to stay where they are). After that, he slams into the ground, sending three waves outward from him. The first wave is made out of arcane fire. The second wave is made out of the energy used to make magic missiles. The third wave is made out of Prismatic energy.

"Ooh! Ah! Hot!"

Edvard slaps the blob of positive energy away from him. He and his double clap their hands together, and crackling waves of blue energy blast outward towards Munchlord. Each portal they run into, they slice through. The ruined portals explode in an eldritch blast as they collapse.

Edvard takes his hat off and reaches inside, rummaging around for something. He finds what he is looking for, and yanks out a twisted staff of black, pitted iron. His double does the same, and at their touch the staves begin to glow with a sickly green light. The present Edvard points his staff at the Fiora and Michael diving down on him, and unleashes a barrage of crackling green rays. The past Edvard waves his staff around gleefully, spraying desintegrating beams like water from a hose.

The Michael flying with Fiora sees the ray coming for them as soon as it leaves Edvard's staff. Unable to dodge, he tugs on the golden blade between himself and Fiora, pulling it free and pushing Fiora away from the blast.

With a shout, he rushes into the wan green light, swooping past Edvard, golden light forming into a spear in his hands. As he rushes into the spell, there is a blinding flare of snow-white light, obscuring both the lich and celestial. As the after-image of the light clears from the audience's eyes, there is a collective gasp and cheer from the audience - Michael is kneeling several feet behind Edvard, and the lich with a glowing, golden spear lodged in his bones. Slowly, the lich dissolves, consumed by rich, golden light, banished to the resting place of his phylactery.

The cheers of the crowd die on their lips, however - Michael does not rise from the ground. In his gut, there is a perfectly round hole, his t-shirt torn. He looks behind him, and smiles weakly at Fiora...the last thing he'll ever see. Michael struggles to his feet, bows to the audience - and dies. Slowly, the youth crumples, falling back to his knees, then face-first into the ground.

Meanwhile, nightmare beasts run screaming across the arena, biting and slashing everyone they come across. A hand full of them run headlong into the remaining Edvard, many simply evaporating, some of them pouncing from behind their brethren. Michael himself is not far behind, walking right through the triple-spell as if it were nothing but a light breeze, throwing cursed fire in every direction, taking out huge craters in the arena floor, sand fusing into smoking glass from the heat.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Michael!" Fiora collapses beside the angel's body, her body wracked with sobs. She embraces his prone form, soaking his shirt with tears. Suddenly, a chill shock goes through his body. And another. And a third, causing his chest to twitch in an obscene parody of breathing. And you realize that Fiora has knitted the flesh together over his chest and forced his lungs to begin breathing. He is alive once more.

Even the Asha'man stops blasting for a moment, looking down on the Aes Sedai wide-eyed. He blinks, shakes his head... and is promptly struck by a meteor. The flaming stone bears down on his, scorching his clothes and driving him into the ground, and stops. The stone (and all the others) reverse, zooming up into the air and shooting at Edvard with trails of blue flame.

Meanwhile, the other Fiora raises a hand and everything... stops. The arena falls dead silent. The nightmare beasts cease to move, as does Michael's dopplegänger. She points her finger and the air... ripples, invisible but tangible waves emanating from her fingertip and flowing through the air, catching the beasts and flinging them back, rending and tearing their unholy flesh, and leaving the dopple untouched but still frozen as time restarts... for the rest.

Edvard is stunned at the ruination of his double.

"You bastard! You killed me!"

Edvard screams, and the ground shatters from the sonic waves as they blast through all the mages in the arena. Edvard leaps, catlike, across the arena. A crystalline sword materializes in his hands, and he slices the Asha'man in half with a single powerful blow. Even before the man realizes he is dead Edvard jumps again, roaring arcane syllables. Pale blue beams erput from the tip of his sword, slicing through the air with a vicious hum at Munchlord.

Edvard lands lightly on the ground Next to Michael's body and Fiora.

"Sorry, toots. The bastard's gone."

"You're the BASTARD!" she screams, conjuring a whip-thin saber of flickering white power that burns the eyes like balefire. "You killed him!" She launches herself at Edvard like a wildcat, lashing this way and that with the power-wrought blade. At each parry, a thin lash of balefire leaps from the blade, stripping Edvard of first his robes, then his staff, then each other item he carries before moving on to his sword. When that too is gone, she laughs. It is a tortured sound, like that of a hundred tormented souls lamenting their pain. She incants in a soft, calm voice, "Show his eyes and grieve his heart/Come like shadows, so depart!"

Edvard feels a tearing pain at the root of his soul, and with it comes a new feeling: sorrow. Crushing remorse, pain, and grief for all the lives he has taken. With her last strength, Fiora leans forward and places the point of her glimmering blade at the lich's throat. "Bastard." With that, she collapses onto his sword blade, driving hers into his chest even as his pierces her breast. The blade flashes with painfully holy fire, and then explodes, incinerating the pair.

Munchlord laughs with triumph as Fiora gather the energy. As it concentrates into a small area a great flash of light blinded everyone. When people were able to see again the terrain around the arena was gone and something else had replaced it. They were in some kind of gigantic room with a wooden ceiling. The walls were white and looked smooth. The floor was covered in some kind of dark blue grass or something like that. To one side was a gigantic hole out into the outside world with clouds of small rocks in it. To the left of the hole was a gigantic structure of some kind of orange matter rising horizontally up from the ground to reach an enormous hight. Next to the orange mountain stood a higher one which was grey and completely smooth with a small extension halfway up shaped like a beam that emerged from it, then bended to return to it higher on the structure. Then there was a section of bare wall before a large blue structure that was smaller at the base than the top emerged from the ground. It was filled with holes in the sides and seemed to be completely hollow. To the right of the hole was a large dark brown structure standing on four pillars and forming a plateu with large box shaped chunks of brown material hanging below. Each of these chunks had two terraces one below the other, broad enough for one man and long enough for six. in the opposite end of the room than the hole was a large wall section made of wood with a stange white terrace halfway up.

Edvard waves his hands, and with a ripping sound a twenty foot wide portal rips itself open in front of the lich. Beyond is a beautiful forest, small animals staring curiously at the portal, and a wood elf stares in amazement at the arena. Flowers blossom in every shade of color, and the warm yellow sunlight virtually glows.

"Er, wrong one."

Edvard twists his hands, and the portal lurches away from the wooded realm, this time coming to a rocking halt above a roiling volcano. With a roar, lava begins to explode outof the caldera, and Edvard waves his hands fracntically as he changes the position of the portal.

"Crap crap crap!"

The portal shifts again, this time landing where it was supposed to. Lightning splits the sky in a purple-white bolt of energy, and the plane is breifly illuminated. The ground is black and cracked, and not a blade of grass lives on it. A few stunted trees, long dead, hunch towards the ground, twisted mockeries of what they once were. A blast of pale blue flame belches up from a vent in the ground, and the other combatants can see numerous gravestones, various dates cut raggedly into the rock. A black lake stretches out for miles along the left, and the surface stirs, betraying the presence of something beneath the waves. Overlooking it all is a castle, made from pure black marble. Spires and minarets reach up towards the heavens, their dark tips gleaming darkly. Edvard breathes in a deep sigh of relaxation and turns to the other fighters.

"Home sweet home. Care to join me for a martini?"

A charnel hound almost forty feet tall rears up before the portal, jaws snarling and dripping negative-energy drool all over the arena sands. Edvard slaps the giant dog on the top of it's nose sharply.

Nick opens his pack and shouts a release word. Thousands and thousands of books pour out. In the endless wave of books, some bookcases are carried. When the wave is over at last, there is a huge library surrounding Nick's corner.

"Home is any place you can pack with books."
Lord_Bahamut

09-21-07, 09:18 PM
Edvard stoops over and picks up a book.

"What kind of title is this? 'Confessions of a half-lycanthrope vampire dire squid of legend?'"

He crooks an eyebrow at Nick.
NorthWind

09-21-07, 09:34 PM
Michael looks around, then shrugs.

"I guess I could have a drink, or something. That's sort of weird, though, y'know? Most people from the present think that Edvard the Pale drank "naught but the poison'd blood of foes" or something."

He carefully walks to the portal, clearly bemused.

"Well, that was fun, right? Should we all have some Coke and call it a day?"
EpicEvokerElf

09-21-07, 09:36 PM
"Sure. This 'Coke' sounds tasty."
Lord_Bahamut

09-22-07, 02:42 AM
Edvard clacks his teeth together excitedly.

"Ok, everyone over at my place for Coke and chips!"

He tosses Nick's book back into it's pile and strides off towards his castle. Scuffling undead servants bow and grovel as the demilich passes them, clearing the path before him of obstacles. Edvard invites those who follow him to sit at an enourmous table made of a single slab of obsidian. With a flick of his wrist, several aluminum cans materialize. Edvard pops one open and chugs it down. He smacks his lips.

"Nothin' like a coke after a fight, eh?"
NorthWind

09-22-07, 01:57 PM
"...Yeah, my thoughts exactly." Michael opens a Coke of his own, and is about to drink it, when a thought strikes him - "How do you drink Coke if you're dead?"
dragor_shadowfury

09-22-07, 02:03 PM
"Like this"
Munchlord mumble a few words and flesh appear on his bones. His face is that of a gray elf around 250 years old. His facial features seem mild and friendly not hinting to the egoistic, cold, calculating and generally evil mind behind it.
He then opens the coke and drink it.
"The only thing is... The rune of ordered chaos... Soon by the ordered chaos will truly begin... And it will follow me here."
Lord_Bahamut

09-22-07, 03:07 PM
Edvard sniffs in disdain at Munchlord.

"Using a flesh body is unecessary. Since I'm dead, I don't have any sense of taste. So I give myself some."

Edvard mumbles a phrase, and the coke slides down an invisible passage in front of the base of his neck, and vanishes behind his robes.

"As if I had flesh, right? Simple."
EpicEvokerElf

09-22-07, 03:10 PM
Fiora takes a seat beside Michael and picks up a Coke. She looks at it dubiously. "How am I supposed to drink thins?"
dragor_shadowfury

09-22-07, 03:32 PM
"I don't need the flesh either, but it can be more useful in other situations... I needed to do some undercover operations in an area where anti illusion spells were annoyingly common. So I crafted this contingent flesh that I could put onto myself whenever I needed, just by speaking a command word. It is much easier than using a spell, even a simple one, every time I want to drink something.
But concerning the chaos there are a few things that would be a good idea to do: Close the gate to the world of The Mind, wrap the area where it were in anti-magic, and put up some defenses to avoid that everything around other than me are destroyed..."
SeptimusMagistos

09-22-07, 04:14 PM
Nick shrugs and takes a bottle of coke. Then he conjures a cup, pours the bottle into it, and dips a small glass globe into the coke. It turns into purest water.

"You think that one's weird? You should see the section of the library where I keep the books I gather so that no one will ever get their hands on them. Ever. It's not to keep them out of the hands of evil so much as to keep the material from annoying me."

He takes a drink of water.

"Right. The thing you suggested is probably a good idea. Let's all do it together."
Lord_Bahamut

09-22-07, 07:53 PM
"Eh, if all hell breaks loose I'll just blow it up. Implosion, anyone?"
dragor_shadowfury

09-23-07, 09:23 AM
"Really, hell breaking loose would be to be preferred over whats about to happen... I planned on using the power of the rune of ordered chaos to win the duel, but it was a game of chance with high stakes... And I lost."
Munchlord then begins to write a rune with each of his hands, they are black and they seem to snuff out magic more effectively than any antimagic field.
I'll supply the antimagic, Edvard could you shut down the gate. Then we finish by building up defenses together, all right?"

"Oh and if I don't get the chance to say this later, I hereby promise to do all I can to protect you from the coming chaos and general mayhem and destruction."
EpicEvokerElf

09-23-07, 10:33 AM
"Right, like I'm going to believe that after that fiasco."
SeptimusMagistos

09-23-07, 11:35 AM
"Sounds good, if somewhat melodramatic."

Nick's sphere, which didn't seem to do anything for a while, becomes much clearer and more defined and shrinks somewhat.

"Right. I recalibrated it to contain metaphysical forces of any sort. I'm not sure if it'll be enough, but I think it's a significant contribution. One problem-I have to stay inside to maintain it. So if someone was so kind as to put in another large shield and someone else extended a smaller, more concentrated one over us, we'd be all set. Oh, and one more thing..."

Nick waves his hand and the books travel back into his pouch. He catches one of them before it manages to fly in and holds it up critically.

"So...this thing is going to be a really big boom, right? One of the biggest booms on record?"
EpicEvokerElf

09-23-07, 11:38 AM
"Since it's you asking, I'll cover the shields." So saying, she closes her eyes. A thin grey dome appears surrounding Edvard's mansion. "I'm waiting on the smaller one. It's impermeable to air."
NorthWind

09-23-07, 02:14 PM
"Hey, nice work. But, c'mon, you guys are taking this whole thing waaay too seriously. A People's History of the Planes has a sidebar on the Mage Duel of Baator - and I don't remember any chaotic explosions. 'Course, I wasn't in it either, so maybe it'd be a good idea to help out."

Michael raises his arms, and a slim silver circle rings Edvard's mansion. "A ring of time reversal...it should wind back anything to crazy to be dealt with right away, if only for a few hours."
Lord_Bahamut

09-23-07, 05:18 PM
Edvard scowls at Michael.

"What, so you stop the explosion now, so that it can go off later when everyone's gone? That's just low, man. Low."

Edvard waves his hands, and outside of all the shields another black bubble forms, similar to the one that protected Edvard during the duel but on a much larger scale. Edvard winds the gate to Baator down, and then takes another swig of his Coke.
NorthWind

09-23-07, 07:12 PM
"What, you thought I'd just leave it behind for you all to clean up? Well, thanks a lot." He snaps his fingers, and the ring disappears. He shoots Edvard a look, and begins to cast a spell of teleportation, but stops mid-spell, seeming to think better of it.

"Ugh. I can't just leave you here like this."

Michael raises his arms above his head, and with bass rumble of thunder, a silver-white curtain descends from the sky, shimmering and undulating like a wave of auroral light, identical to the magic he used earlier, only with such intensity, it's shifting light can be dimly made out through the pitch-black sphere of Edvard's shield.

"There. Better?"
Lord_Bahamut

09-23-07, 11:42 PM
Edvard sticks an imaginary tongue out at Michael.

"Yes, as a matter of fact I did! I'm a lich, and you're a celestial thingymabob! We aren't supposed to mix!"
dragor_shadowfury

09-24-07, 02:09 AM
Munchlord Flies to the area around the portal and place the anti magic runes in a careful pattern. All supernatural effects in the area cease to function there, even the planar traits of the plane they are on.
"I'll link my power onto every defense to empower them and build up my own as well."
He starts writing a lot of runes and he flies around at the same time as well. One of his hands are free to take out runes from his bag and place them on the defenses that the others have risen.
"And yes Nick, this is gonna be one of the biggest booms in record"
SeptimusMagistos

09-24-07, 05:35 PM
"Excellent. Then I can finally get rid of this."

Nick throws a book into where he estimates the center of the boom will be. The book's title is "Infinite Pick-up lines."

"I have thrown it into volcanoes and beat it against important multiversal structures. I have cast terrible doom spells on it and torn pages out of it by the dozen. Yet still I haven't been able to get rid of it. Now, at last, I can be safe."

dragor_shadowfury

09-25-07, 03:08 AM
Munchlord finish placing runes and flies into the center of the defenses where he scribes a large rune made of smaller runes. His face takes on a concentrated look.
"It should begin about... now"
As the last word is spoken a portal begins to open, the anti magic struggling to keep the powerful energies down. The anti magic fails though and soon a strong force spills out from somewhere that is undefined by normal planar coordinates, but which Munchlord had called the world of the Mind Behind. Soon by the first blow of energy discharges with an immense power, and soon the next one follows, even stronger. Soon it counts hundreds of discharges every second of all kinds of energy, fire, acid, force, holy, unholy, positive, negative and more. Every single blast has a power that easily matches Vengeful Gaze of God.
The runes around Munchlord flares up and vast amounts of magical energy is channeled from him into the defenses. Despite his effort one barrier after the other fall until one last barrier stands. Now the flesh that Munchlord had called later begins to burn into magical energy to maintain the barrier. When his flesh is consumed he begins to sacrifice portions of his actual body, the bones that composes him. He lets loose a terrifying scream of agony but manages to maintain concentration on the barrier and the connection. Suddenly five portals open around him and figures in large purple robes emerge, taking up position in a circle around Munchlord. They begin chanting incantations and channeling their own magic into Munchlord for him to use on the barrier. Between the screams of agony, Munchlord manages to speak to the robed figures.
"No... Don't do this... You will end up dying if you... Stay... I did not initiate you... so that you should sacrifice yourselves... for my mistake and... failure... GO"
Munchlord then sacrifice his left hand to channel a blast that tosses the cultists back into their portals, except one of them. The last one misses the portal with an inch and lands thirty feet away.
The the last blast cause the last barrier to collapse, but the nature of the barrier limits the blast to charge off withing the large rune where Munchlord is standing.
It leaves a large crater filled with a crackling magical energy that makes the bottom of it hard to see. Something is visible in it though, but it is not large enough to be Munchlord.
Lord_Bahamut

09-25-07, 07:30 PM
"Blimey."

Edvard pokes his staff into the smoke-filled crater. The tip glows with green light, like a flashlight.

"Munchy old chap? You alright?"
NorthWind

09-25-07, 08:17 PM
Michael looks sidelong at Edvard - "If only we could have had more time to work on containing that, hmm?"

He flutters down into the crater, looking around the charred walls by the light of Edvard's staff. "Can you make that brighter? I dunno if it'd be safe to conjure any light so close to the impact just yet."
dragor_shadowfury

09-26-07, 02:58 AM
The man in the purple robe stands up and walks closer to the crater, looking like he fear to see what is in it but can resist the curiosity either. When he sees the thing laying in the crater he jumps in and pick it up, non-caring for the burns and wounds that the energy in the crater gives him, scorched flesh and deep wounds where the energy that had entered his flesh through the scorches exited in a quite explosive manner. What was laying in the crater was the rests of Munchlord, his right arm a small portion of his torso and his head. All with severe magic burns and cracks. The small red pinpoints of light in Munchlord's eye sockets still burn, which shows that he is still alive.
"*Cough... Cough*... That hurt."
a small ring of chain appear in the air in the other end of the room. It grow and expand rapidly, magical energy flickering inside the ring. Munchlord looks at the chain and says with a voice like he was buying a newspaper.
"Crap"
Lord_Bahamut

09-26-07, 02:27 PM
Edvard jumps down into the pit and pokes Munchlord with his staff. Black energy crackles around the other lich, and his body reforms. Where the bones had been burned away by the explosion, a shadowy skeleton forms.

"Good as new! Now, what is that?"
dragor_shadowfury

09-26-07, 03:21 PM
The energy in the crater toast away on Edvard a little, but then it dissipates.
"Than you Ed, but judging from that"
Munchlord gestures towards the chain.
"it won't do much good in the end.
He then turn at the man in the robes. First he mumble a few words which cause a rune on his forehead to glow and his wounds to heal. In addition to that his hood falls off and reveals the face of a young human boy, barely past the 16.
"You and your fellow apprentices did a great thing for me today, and when you used your mastery over air to evade the portal you judged the situation better than me, I am very proud of you. When I return I will arrange your ascension."
All the while the magic between the chains has formed a portal and from the portal a humanoid shaped figure made of bars like that of a cage, with shackles hanging from the limbs appears. The mouth and the eyes are formed by green glows of energy.
SeptimusMagistos

09-26-07, 04:48 PM
Nick recovers from being stunned by the stress of magic against his shield. He looks at Munchlord, notices the melodramatic moment and looks away. Sometimes it's right to let someone have their speech. While everything else is going on, he examines the place he placed the pick-up line book to determine that it is in fact gone for good and takes out two potions and drinks them. As the first one washes down his throat, his minor scrapes disappear and the slightly tired expression on his face is replaced by a relaxed one. As the second one is drunk, the wild attraction females had for him fades away.
EpicEvokerElf

09-26-07, 09:30 PM
Fiora looks around blankly. "Is it too late for my second shield?"
dragor_shadowfury

09-27-07, 02:15 AM
Words appear in the minds of everyone, but not like they were heard, more like the recipient had formed the words and were ready to speak them.

"Munchlord, I did not think you would be so reckless. I expected that it was you who had stolen the Tome of Ordered Chaos, but without proof you know I can do nothing."

"Yes I know, it didn't went the way I had hoped."

"You know the punishment"

"Yes I do. May I fulfill a promise before my sentence is executed?"

"How long will it take?"

"A minute or so"

"Granted"

Munchlord begins to write runes in a ring that surrounds the figure in the cage.
Lord_Bahamut

09-28-07, 12:26 AM
"Whoa whoa whoa! You ain't doin' nothin' here in mah house, see? Now either ya go git gone, or I throw you out good!" Edvard brandishes his staff threateningly at the chain beast thingymabob.
SeptimusMagistos

09-28-07, 04:41 PM
Nick stares at Edward.

"That won't work, I think. First of all, that looks like a god and I've been told gods are powerful. But more importantly, this looks like a private thing. It's something they'll need to settle on their own."
dragor_shadowfury

09-28-07, 06:23 PM
The boy who is apparently Munchlord's apprentice turns to Nick and Edvard.
"Yeah its a god, and one of the more powerful among the herd, but nowhere as powerful as the Purple Dragon. In any case this is a personal matter indeed. My master stole the Tome of Ordered Chaos from him, now that using something that was found in the tome only has revealed his action to Atanix and given him the proof that my master had stolen the tome, Artanix has arrived to execute the sentence that my master has gotten. Artanix is the god of law, and when working in the errand of a law, not even the purple dragon can stop him."
SeptimusMagistos

09-28-07, 08:28 PM
"Well...have you tried getting a lawyer? In my experience, laws are riddled with easily usable loopholes you can call on to explain your latest adventure."
dragor_shadowfury

09-28-07, 09:01 PM
"Well, I don't think that would be of much use. The rune is written only in the book which was stolen from the god, and the law on this matter is whitout exploitable twinkles."
EpicEvokerElf

09-28-07, 09:12 PM
Fiora snorts in disgust and waves her hand, causing a ripple in the air which opens into a dark void with a platform of alabaster directly behind it. "Can I go?"
SeptimusMagistos

09-29-07, 12:10 PM
"You should probably wait for the results. I hear this battle will get judged. Of course, regardless of the verdict, I survived, which is way more than I expected."
dragor_shadowfury

09-29-07, 12:42 PM
Munchlord finishes his rune scribing. He walks into the circle as well.
"I'm ready"
Artanix begins to channel power around his fists, large purple orbs appearing. He unleash the wave of energy, and in the last moment before he is struck, Munchlord points at his coke and yells.
"Simon, you can have the rest of my coke"
Then the wave consume him and continue onwards until it reaches the rune circle. Here it bounces back and fill the circle for a moment before disappearing, which the god has done as well. The wave was of a force much more devastating than even the blasts before when taken separately.

Simon walks to the table and fetch the coke. He looks at it for a moment and thinks
"I don't really feel like it"
He then looks up and the first person his eyes catch is Fiora. He reach the coke out towards her.
"You want it?"
EpicEvokerElf

09-29-07, 02:47 PM
She shakes her head, dispelling the gate. She whips her hands through a series of knitting motions, and a grey dome springs up around Munchlord and the thing. The energy backlash from its wave reflects off of the warding, coming back at the only two beings inside it.
NorthWind

09-29-07, 04:16 PM
"Well, that's that, isn't it! That was amazing. I can't wait to get home...it should be interesting."

He looks at Simon, and reaches for the Coke. "Well, that was a specific request, wasn't it?" He raises the can of soda, but stops before drinking, and looks at it appraisingly. "What, you thought I'd just drink it?"
dragor_shadowfury

09-29-07, 06:24 PM
"I don't care who drink the coke, I don't really feel like it right now anyway. So who happen you people to be?"
SeptimusMagistos

09-29-07, 06:31 PM
"I think he means that the coke isn't for drinking. I agree personally, that was an odd request. Just check it so we can all get out of here."
dragor_shadowfury

09-30-07, 04:07 AM
"To bo honest, I don't think its more than a coke. I know it is a bit odd, but he isn't exactly the most normal guy around. I think there was a little symbol in it though, as he know coke is my favorite drink."
Lord_Bahamut

09-30-07, 04:33 PM
Edvard turns away fuming from the crater in his floor. He shouts to no one in particular.

"Look at it! Look! That thing's got to be ten feet deep! Do you have any idea how much pure obsidian costs!? DO YOU?!"

He turns to one of his hapless servants, who is bearing a tray with several more cans of coke to the table.

"You! Go get the phone book! Go call those floor people again! First it was that blasted champion of Pelor, blowing half of my nice table up. Then it was that Grazz't fellow and his demons who trashed my place! Now some god comes in and blows a hole in my floor!"

He paces around the crater, muttering to himself. He senses Fiora's weaving and looks at her.

"Only I can open gateways here. Take this one back to the arena."

He rips open a portal back to the scorched and blackened arena. The sound of a puttering old van can be heard outside of the front door.

"That would be them. Excuse me, I have some... bartering, you could say... to do."

He stalks out the front door, robes swirling around his feet.
EpicEvokerElf

09-30-07, 04:45 PM
Fiora drops to her hands and knees and picks up a chip of obsidian from the floor. She blows on it, scratches it against her fingernail, and throws it back into the hole. Immediately a flood of clear lava cascades out of the chip, hardening into a sheet of solid obsidian filling the hole in the floor. Then she dusts herself off, takes Michael's hand, and leads him back through the portal. The Coke just sits on the table.
SeptimusMagistos

10-01-07, 04:35 PM
"Oh, for pity's sake!"

Nick casts a spell on the coke that combines analyze dweomer, legend lore, and several other detection and analysis spells on the coke. Then he has a holographic replay of the contact Munchlord had with the coke. Finally he examines it very carefully up close, picks it up and shakes it very slightly, and even looks inside of it.
NorthWind

10-01-07, 07:39 PM
Michael is pulled along, but not without protesting -
"Wait! I wanted to see the bartering!"
EpicEvokerElf

10-01-07, 08:09 PM
"I fixed the floor. I wonder what he'll think of that..." She tugs him through the portal anyway, twisting the weave slightly to deposit them both in the Taverne Cycine.

10-01-07, 08:53 PM
Edvard's high pitched shout can be heard even through the obsidian doors to the chamber.

"WHAT?! You want HOW MUCH?! THERE'S NO WAY IN TIAMAT'S SCALY ASS THAT I AM PAYING THAT MUCH!!"

A loud boom rocks the castle foundation, and a bit of dust drifts down from the ceiling. The doors slam open with a powerful thrust of force, and Edvard stalks in. His front yard is a blasted wasteland, and the remains of an old van smolder in front of his porch. He grabs a vampire servant by the collar of his uniform and snarls, "Clean up that mess!" He then hurls the hapless vampire against the wall, where it lands with a sickening crunch.

Storming back into the room, he flops down in his chair and drains another can of Coke as his vampire servant twitches spasmodically.
SeptimusMagistos

10-01-07, 11:54 PM
Nick shrugs, grabs the can of coke, still determined to unravel its mysteries, and passes through the portal back to the arena.

10-02-07, 02:10 AM
Simon chases Michael and Fiora through the portal, not to follow them specifically, but just to get away from the angry lich.

An envelop appear on Edvard's table. At first it seems ordinary, but then he realize that it is made from human skin. On the back is a seal with a ring of bones around a gem and a vampire fang. The sealing wax is made of solid negative energy.
Lord_Bahamut

10-04-07, 04:04 PM
Edvard picks up the envelope and walks into his "office"; sculpted obsidian pillars support the large room as the lich strides across the floor and towards a heavy desk, also made of obsidian. He tosses the envelope into a box labeled with black Sharpie "To Do" and flops into a chair made of expensive black leather.

"I need a vacation... maybe to Khyber, send some legions of undead at the world, kill some heroes... Something."
