Immunity/Immortality Loophole? [Archive] - Wizards Community

So, as much as I dread the idea of being the umpteenth poster to create a thread on a perceived loophole only to be shot down, I'm curious as to a particular combination I've found and whether it works just as horribly well as it seems.

The Lernaean version of the Multi-Headed template out of SS is one of those delightful aspects of the book that has gotten it banned from my gaming circles. Y'see, a Lernaean creature's body is immune to attack. Not just damage, mind you, but attacks of any kind. How do you kill such a beast? You either sever all of its heads and seal the stumps with acid or fire damage, or you hit it with a disintegration or death effect. Simple.

Enter the Lumi from MM3. Yes, the goofy-looking living nightlights from the Positive Energy Plane that feature a fabled immunity to Death by Awesome. More importantly for this thread, they're immune to death effects, and have a bizzare trait dubbed "Floating Head" that renders them immune to strangling, suffocation, and decapitation.

So is a two-headed lumi immune to everything but disintegration? Tell me I'm missing something. Pun-Pun is weird, this is just wrong.

Actually, baleful polymorph/flesh to stone should work just fine... I've certainly never seen this on the boards before but others may have. I have something like this with regeneration and being immune to nonlethal damage.

I haven't read about this Lernean thing myself, but the OP did state

Wouldn't a baleful polymorph or flesh to stone constitute as an attack? I know it would turn an invisible person visible (my litmus test for "what is considered an attack")...

There are still a few ways to kill Lernean creatures without cutting off heads; true save-or-die effects, for instance, will kill it. Disintegrate (which isn't a save-or-die) and the like also work. And not all save-or-die effects are [Death] effects. Most are, but a few such as the Words of Alignment and Implosion aren't.

This has been noticed before; there was a thread on getting invulnerability to damage that mentioned this precise combination. Still, good stuff like this bears the occasional look over.

Sorry to repost old hat, then. The usual Googular board-searching didn't turn this up, hence my asking.

Good to know it's not quite as bad as it seems. Thanks, all! :)
