Ok people I have been making an template for Inuyasha. So far here are the stats for racail bonuses.

Racial bonuses:

+2 listen, +4 jump checks, +4 str +2 con dex, -2 wis, -2 cha,
Feat/abilities
Scent, claws 1d6 each (2),
+10 speed
Human bonuses such as +4 skill points at first lvl and +1 feat at first lvl,

does anyone have other suggestions in how i can make my template better and improved?>

is this just for inuyasha or for all half-demons? do you have any plans for full demons?

i don't think he should get the extra skill points, just looking at half-elves and half-orcs for an example. i could see the point of giving him those for the demon qualities if you wanted, but he probably wouldn't need them anyway. i'd imagine he'd have few class skills if he were to be a fighting-type class (and you have to remember that not all half-demons have character levels). considering everything else he's got going for him, he won't miss 'em.

if this is a template just for half-demons, i might suggest you make certain bonuses and penalties for different demon types (dog, cat, rat, or whatever other demon that may or may not be animal based). some may already be closely represented in the monster manual.

if you could find a monster that resembles the actual demon you want to make a demon template from (instead of just using the monster in the book), you could go through the steps of finding how to make that monster a playable character found on page 172 of the dungeon master's guide. this could help with racial bonuses to abilities.

if this is a half-dog demon template, you could look at dogs in general for help. maybe the +4 racial bonus dogs get when tracking by scent? and low-light vision. also, think of any natural armor a demon of certain types might have. if you have the monster manual, you can find a table on page 298 that may help. inuyasha might have between 1 and 3 natural armor for thick skin, but you can choose to make it as high as you want. be careful not to give too much. in fact, i may suggest only 1 or 2. he probably won't be wearing much armor, but i'm sure you could fit a high score in dex. consider the monk class; they get natural armor bonuses as well, but they don't get the benefit until 5th level, and it only improves every 5 levels for a max of +4 at 20th. giving him too much will overpower him.

giving him +4 to strength, +2 to constitution, and +2 to dexterity is a bit much for only losing 2 each to wisdom and charisma. considering that this is inuyasha, i could understand, but you may have to give him a level adjustment. he'd outshine other character too quickly. i'm not that good at determining level adjustment, but i would guess at maybe 1 or 2 if you kept these abilities.

i might take out the +2 dex increase. even though inuyasha is quicker than most, he's about as easy to hit as any of the others in his traveling party. he could be the powerhouse of the group without it. this would even up the exceptional bonuses he would get in battle a little bit more with the penalties he's getting at social gatherings. adding them up without the dex, the benefits still outweigh the disadvantages (by +2!). this way, there wouldn't be a real need for a level adjustment.

as far as the human advantage, you could let him have any favored class (if you even use that rule... and i don't know what classes you intend to make him anyway). other than that, humans don't really get anything but an extra feat and the extra skill points. other races don't get this because of the other benefits they already get for having something other than human in their blood.

hope this helps a little. if not, just take it with a grain of salt... or whatever it is they say.

Yeah making demons and hanyou (half-demons) is alot harder than that believe me I've tried. Its everything the guy above me said and more. What kind of half-demon or demon are you trying to make and maybe we can help?

FIrst of all i am srry i didnt post earlier life got in the way. OK i am trying to make a half human-half(dog) demon template for an Inuyasha like race. Once i get the half demon down i might do a full demon. So far this is what i have come up with

Racial bonuses:
+2 listen, +4 jump checks, +4 str +2 dex, -2 wis , -2 cha
Scent, claws 1d4 each count as two weapon fighting (2)(treated as if made of addimantine)
+10 speed
human form 1/month (loss all racial bonuses like str, claws lowlight vision, ect)
lowlight vision
+2 natural armor
+3 lvl adjustment

I might give him the one bonus feat at first lvl but i am not sure, and can you guys think of anyway i might take in account that he is despised by humans and demons alike?

i'm not sure exactly what could be given to him to automatically repel all creatures around him like that. you may just have to roleplay it, like a half-orc would be.

i've seen other inuyasha requests around here with some other good information that you may like to check out. search around and you may find it.

I could do it but you need to give me the time. one thing for sure is he is a normal human, and the glaive i would say would be a hand sythe on a 20ft chian most likely dealing 1d4 + str or 2d4 +str. i don't think it would go any higher than that
Lord_Naraku

Hakudoshi is not a normal human, he is a demon born of Naraku and has traits from him as well. Don't for get to take that into account. Use stats for the Halberd not a glaive cause thats what he uses.

Maybe we should give Hakudoshi the Fiendish template, Half Fiend template, or a major demon bloodline?

I have an idea for So'ounga and a Dog Demon template, would anyone mind PEACHing it?

So'unga

So'unga is an intelligent +5 corrupt keen unholy mighty cleaving Zweihander with a number of unique and special powers. So'unga is an aggressive weapon that will always attempt to dominate its wielder unless he is either its true and rightful owner, or demonstrates an unbreakable will (such as by winning several domination contests in a row). If successful, So'unga will usually force its wielder to go on a killing spree until stopped or until So'unga grows bored or gets a better idea.
So'unga has an Intelligence of 19, Wisdom of 10 and Charisma of 19; its Ego is 39. Although it can speak Common and Infernal, it usually communicates by telepathy or not at all. It is chaotic evil.
The powers of So'unga are as follows:
· Gokuryuuha
Psychokinesis
Level: Kineticist 9
Display Auditory and visual
Manifesting stime: 1 Standard action
Range Long (400ft + 40ft/level)
Area: 40 ft
Duration: Instant
Saving throw: Reflex, half
Power Resistance: No
Power Points 17
You swirl your sword in the air. The power of the manifestation begins to make the winds spiral, in the middle of the forming tornado there is a large ball of red energy. You slam your blade into the ground, sending the storm at your opponent(s). On initial impact the blast does 8d6 points of fire and raw energy damage. Half the damage is fire, the other raw energy. Regardless of the ranged attack for the energy ball hits, all creatures in the area (including the one possibly damage by the direct contact) are picked up and violently dashed about, dealing 16d6 points of damage to each one. A successful Reflex save makes the creatures take half damage.
After being dashed about, each reature that was affected finds itself in a new space 1d4 X 10 feet away from its original space in a random direction. Walls and other barriers restrict this relocation.
Augment: For every additional power point you spend, this power's area damage (not the damage from direct contact to a specific reature) increases by 1d6 to a maximum of 25d6 points. For each extra 2d6 points of damage, increase the DC save for this power by 1.

(The only problem is that the Gokuryuuha is manifested from a sword. The Manifester Level would be 25, so it could be augmented in such a way. I was thinking maybe the sword could have power points so it could be done by itself, if it ever possessed a person without Power Points, and it draw on the users if it runs out so the wielder does not get the fatigued condition.)
· So'unga can generate the Gokuryuuha an unlimited number of times, but this power is debilitating to the wielder. On the first use, the wielder becomes fatigued (no save) for 10 minutes. If the wielder uses Gokuryuuha while fatigued, he becomes exhausted for 1 hour. If he uses this power while exhausted, he falls unconscious immediately after the Gokuryuuha goes off, remaining so for 1 hour, after which time he is fatigued for another hour.
· When within 60' of either Tenseiga or Tessaiga, So'unga's power is limited slightly, and its Gokuryuuha power deals only half damage.
· Jealous Touch: Contact with So'unga rusts lesser weapons, including bone weapons. Any magical weapon that comes into contact with So'unga must make a Fortiude save (DC 14 + wielder's Charisma modifier) or take 3d6+15 points of rust damage, which bypasses the weapon's hardness. A weapon reduced to 0 hit points by this damage is utterly destroyed. Nonmagical weapons are destroyed automatically (no save). Certain magical weapons of great power are immune to this effect (Tenseiga and Tessaiga are known to be).
· Infernal Citadel: Upon command, So'unga can create a fortified tower which is equal to a Daern's instant fortress. However, this fortress cannot be used to deal damage; it does not crush creatures when it appears. So'unga can create or banish the fortress as a standard action, and cannot have more than one fortress in existance at once.
· Aura of Decay: If So'unga is left unsheathed and in contact with the ground without a wielder, its evil aura begins to destroy plant life and cause man-made structures to deteriorate as if aging very rapidly. This aura of decay deals no damage to most creatures, but deals 1d6 points of damage to mundane plants each round (plant monsters are not harmed). The aura is initially 30' in radius, but it expands its radius by 20' every 10 minutes, to a maximum of 2,640' (half a mile) after about 22 hours.
· Raise Dead: So'unga can raise the dead, but only if they were slain by its Gokuryuuha power. This power is equivalent to the spell raise dead.except that it can even raise demons and other outsiders. This power can be used at will.
· 100 Zombies: Any creature slain by So'unga can, if the sword so wills, become a zombie (apply the zombie template), except that So'unga's zombies have fast healing 5 and +1 to CR. These zombies obey the wielder, subject to the usual maximum of 2 HD worth of controlled undead per character level. If extra zombies are created, the wielder decides which ones beome free-willed. So'unga can choose to animate creatures slain by it as zombies at any time before they decompose completley; it does not have to do so immediately. Attacks by So'unga cannot be healed by the fast healing of these zombies.
· Hell Blade: So'unga can be used to literally cut a gate between the Prime plane and the Underworld. However, this gate will gradually expand if left alone, eventually engulfing the entire world and transporting all living things to Hell. So'unga can also close such a gate, but it would rather not.

So'unga's market price is technically 1,053,850 gp, but for practical purposes it is priceless.

The So'unga Armor
The So'unga armor is crafted of bone, and acts as +5 called spiked full plate of grace, greater manuvering and superior spellcasting. It has no armor check penalty, arcane spell failure chance, or speed reduction. If the wearer knows the command word, he can cause the armor to appear on his body, fully donned, as a move-equivalent action. The command word only functions when the armor is not being worn; thus, another creature that knows the word cannot steal it off the wearer's back.
The So'unga armor is spiked full plate, and can be used to make normal melee attacks; the spikes themselves are equal to +5 armor spikes and deal damage equal to 1d6+5 plus the wielder's Strength modifier. In addition, the wearer can cause the armor to fire 1d4 spikes as a single ranged attack. The spikes have a range increment of 10' and deal 1d6+5 points of damage. For all practical purposes, the armor has an unlimited supply of spikes.
The So'unga armor's value is technically 2,012,000, but for practical purposes it is priceless.

Tenseiga
Tenseiga is a +5 ghost touch holy keen undead bane katana with several special powers. Its wielder can continually see invisibility and can activate the swords other powers However, Tenseiga cannot harm a living creature; if it strikes a living creature, it leaves a streak of light instead of a wound. Tenseiga can harm only undead.
Tenseiga has an Intelligence of 17, Wisdom of 17, and Charisma of 10; its Ego is 29. It is neutral good
· Slay Death: Tenseiga has the ability to raise the dead by channeling holy power. In addition, the guardians of the Gate of the Dead fear the sword for its ability to harm them, and will not trouble its wielder. Tenseiga can raise the dead (as the spell raise dead) except that it can restore outsiders, which normally requires a true resurrection spell. Each use of this power exhausts the wielder until he has a chance to rest for 30 minutes; otherwise, there is no maximum limit.
· Burning Touch: Tenseiga is intelligent and, in addition to withholding its powers, it will actively attack those who try to wield it against its will. At will, it can deal 3d6 points of damage each round to any nonhuman who touches it; this is pure magical energy and bypasses all energy resistances and spell resistance. However, Tenseiga cannot harm humans with this power and can only affect those that touch it.
· Defensive Step: Tenseiga protects its wielder. Once per day, if the sword's wielder is about to be struck by an attack that would be fatal (weapon, spell or otherwise), Tenseiga can intervene to save its wielder. When this occurs, the wielder is surrounded by a blue light and instantly transported elsewhere, as by a dimension door cast at 20th level. The wielder will be transported to the safest place within range, in Tenseiga's opinion. An unwilling wielder can resist this effect with a Will save (DC = Tenseiga's Ego of 29).
· True Sight: Tenseiga's wielder gains the ability to see things as they truly are, as if under the effects of a permanent true seeing spell.
· Meidou zangetsu ha: A unique ability of the sword, this is a technique by which an opponent can be slain with a single blow, his spirit sent on tho the appropriate afterlife. On a successful critical hit, the victim must make a Fortitude save (DC 10 + damage dealt) or be slain instantly, even if the damage was insufficient. This power affects undead even thogh they are immune to critical hits; the attack does not deal critical damage, triggering only the mendou zangetsu ha power..

Tenseiga's market price is technically 2,021,000 gp, but for practical purposes it is priceless.

Tessaiga
Tessaiga is a +5 defending demonbane keen katana that normally appears very battered and worn. However, when its full power is revealed, it expands into a six-foot-long falchion-shaped weapon that appears to be a sharp fang, with a white fur handguard. In this form it deals damage as a Large katana (base damage 2d8), but is still considered a Medium weapon.
Tessaiga has an Intelligence of 10, Wisdom of 17, and Charisma of 17; its Ego is 29. Its special purposes is to protect humans, and it will vigorously resist a wielder who does not share thia goal.
· Kaze no Kizu (Su): Translated into Common as Wind Scar, this attack functions by drawing upon the power of demons to destroy them. It takes the form of a 75' cone and deals damage from cutting, demonic winds (this damage is of no particular type). Although it draws on the energies of its demon foes, this attack is channeled by the raw power of the wieleder; therefore, the maximum damage it deals is equal to 1d6 per HD of the wielder. As the energy of the Wind Scar is drawn from the demons themselves, it cannot be healed by demons' fast healing, and bypasses regeneration as if it were whatever material or energy is needed to bypass the specific demon's regeneration.
· The full power of the Wind Scar can only be drawn forth once per day; however, the wielder can use Wind Scar attacks that deal lesser damage (1d6 per 2 HD) at will. Using any version of the Wind Scar is a full-round action.
· Bakuryuha (Su): Translated into Common as Explosive Flowering Wave, and also called the Backlash Wave or Dragon Twister, this is Tessaiga's most powerful attack. To use it, the wielder must first ready an action to unleash Tessaiga's Wind Scar attack when he is attacked by demonic magic (including any spell, spell-like ability, or supernatural ability of a demon). When this occurs, the wielder and the demon must make opposed Will saves; if the demon wins, resolve both attacks separately. However, if Tessaiga's wielder wins, the demonic attack is captured and returned, and the demon takes full damage from both the Wind Scar attack and its own demonic attack. If the demon's attack either did not deal damage or is ineffective against demons, the Backlash Wave instead deals 2d6 points of damage per effective spell level (1/2 caster level for abilities with no obvious spell level)
· Barrier Shatter (Su): As a standard action the wielder may strike any magical barrier (such as a wall spell, magic circle, or similar effect intended to prevent passage) with Tessaiga. The sword destroys the barrier as if with a targeted greater dispel magic cast at 20th level (+20 dispel check). Tessaiga glows red for one round when this power is used. Against mundane barriers, this effects functions as a knock spell.
· Burning Touch: Tessaiga is intelligent and, in addition to withholding its powers, it will actively attack those who try to wield it against its will. At will, it can deal 3d6 points of damage each round to any nonhuman who touches it; this is pure magical energy and bypasses all energy resistances and spell resistance. However, Tessaiga cannot harm humans with this power and can only affect those that touch it. A demon once managed to "wield" Tessaiga via a severed human arm attached to the hilt.

Tessaiga's market price is technically 450,350 gp, but for practical purposes it is priceless.

Tessaiga's Sheath
This magical item was made from the freely-given wood of an ancient, sentient, magical tree. It has electricity resistance 30 and resistance 30 vs. the yokai energy attacks of demons, and grants these powers to its wearer. In addition, once per day the sheath can summon the sword Tessaiga to itself, as with Drawmij's instant summons.
Tessaiga's sheath is valued at 95,200 gp.

Ehy! I'm new! I really love Inuyasha! Is my best anime!
My true name is Marco, I'm italian.
Very good work razielk even if I think that Sounga has a better magic score than +5 probably.
I'm working on d&d for Inuyasha characters and races too.
If you want I can help you with my works.
One question? Do we consider youkais outsiders? I think they are outsiders for the most part of them....

Skills: Jump +58, Survival +23
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
CR: ?
Equipment: Robe of the Firerat; Tetsaiga

A tall, white-haired man leaps towards you, drawing out a massive greatsword. He wears a long red robe, and is barefoot.

Inuyasha, the half-human son of the legendary Inu-no-Taisho, looks like a human in his late teens, although he is two hundred years old.

Combat:
Inuyasha is brash, and charges straight into combat, relying in his great fast healing to survive battle.

Iron Reaver Soul Stealer (su): As a free action, Inuyasha can draw out his demon claws, enabling him to deal damage as per a natural weapon, that are treated as Magical for purposes of negating damage reduction.

Blades of Blood (su): Once Inuyasha has taken some damage, he can use the blood from his wound as a ranged attack. This attack is treated as a throwing weapon with a range increment of 30ft.

Poison Resistence (ex): Inuyasha is more resistant to poison than a typical human. He has a +8 bonus against poison.

Supreme Jump (ex): Inuyasha is not limited by his height when jumping, and has a +30 racial bonus on Jump checks.

**Add "Demonic Form" and "Electricity Resistance 20*" to the Special Qualities line.

**Add this special quality:

Demonic Form (su): Should Tetsaiga be sundered or otherwise removed from Inuyasha’s ownership, Inuyasha’s latent demonic powers begin to manifest. His eyes turn red and purple marks form on his face. His canine teeth enlarge, and he looses all control.

Inuyasha enters a state similar to a frenzied berserker: he attacks friend and foe alike. He gains a +10 bonus to Strength, and a +6 bonus to constitution.

However, this form is extremely taxing, and Inuyasha takes one point of damage per round that cannot be healed with his natural fast healing until his sword is recovered or until something (DM’s decision) forces a DC 30 will save for him to resist his demonic nature.

**Add this to the "*" section, "Tetsaiga's sheath provides some protection against Electricity: it can absorb up

and Shin_Koryu88 tell me if oyu try to make a playable race that is like Inuyasha i have some ideas already written down maybe we could make a good one.

I will post it when it's completely OK. First of all, I think there should be more than one templates for hanyou if someone wants not only to create Inuyasha's world, but to create an adventure Inuyasha-like even with other characters.
Inuyasha's template should be called Inu Hanyou (Half-Dog Demon) with this condition of alignment for first: any non-lawful any non-evil.
Non-lawful is the youkai part, and non-evil is the human side.
1) the creature type... honestly I don't know if he can be an outsider native or just a humanoid.
2) +10 feet on speed, I think it can be good.
3) natural armor +4 or +5.
4) +4 bonus saving throw against poisons.
5) natural weapons must considered magical for the purpose of damage reduction
6) I think however that Inuyasha has even the Improved Unarmed Strike and Deflect Arrows feats but is not a fact to consider in developing a general half-demon. *
***This are the surest things to create this template.
I'm creating my customized world in d&d thanks to Inuyasha's characters and other customized things.
7) Ehm tell me why Inuyasha's alignment should be lawful neutral.
I think probably he was chaotic neutral in ancient times, but, in watching the episodes after the fourth, I say Inuyasha is chaotic good for sure.
Strogg

chaotic good is what a couple of other people said. but +4-5 natural armor is ok if you dont want it to be playable. One issue that is always overhead for me in Level adjustment and that since my goal is to make it so it is playable but not too high in la. i mean ghost template is a +5 and if anything for an Inuyasha like race/template if it gets past +4 or +5 it isn't really practical unless the benefits are very high. but instead of the +10 speed why not just say base land speed of 40? I also agree with the natural weapons but any idea for dmg. I know claws for med sized creatures are 1d4 + any bonuses, but should it be higher since they are more of a racial weapon? now putting feats in the template i would do but you cant get them all at once. Last does anyone think it would be a good idea to have like a racial progression? like X natural armor at X lvl, and claws at lvl 2? and i think lowlight vision, and scent in the dmg are a must.

Ehy!

So'ounga only has the +5 because he has several other enchantments, I sorta want it to be playable.

General: If you look above you will see the information I have stated out for Tetsusaiga, Tenseiga, So'ounga and the actual Dog Demon template. I have had them reviewed several times and tested them, they are balanced.

+5 is the highest magic enhancement a weapon or armor can get anyway, right?

Of course, the inuyasha's template must have Level Adjustment.
Half-Demons are much more stronger than humans.
I think racial progression is needed: even because he has the awakening of demon blood, a quality like barbarian rage or berserker.
Inuyasha's claws deals much more damage in demon form.
And the Improved Natural Attack feat is needed for Inuyasha, so normal claws damage can be 1d6.
Sankon Tesso can be a special feat, simply Inuyasha can use it as a charging attack, dealing with his natural weapon double damage in charge (just like Flying Kick for unarmed strikes).
The blood awakening, I call it Berserker Demon (*Gekitotsu-Youkai), and in this state Inuyasha gains +10 Strenght, plus 5/- damage reduction, and attacks foe and enemies, he can't control it if he not save Will (CD?), and he has +5 to all saving throws.
In this state, he fights with his claws that deals damage as three categories better (if 1d6, than, 2d6).

For the human trasformation, I think for racial levels for Inuyasha.
When he change form (human), he lose the racial levels.
Then, he lose even the special qualities.

gaining +5 to all saves is a little much. going demon seems to be a bit like one big berserker rage (+10 strength, which may be a bit much. what would sesshomaru's strength be? is it already +12 or something?). in that case, he's probably too angry to pay much attention to anything (attacking friend and foe) and therefore should get penalties to his AC.

just giving him the normal effects of rage would be more than enough with his racial bonuses. you don't want to overpower him too much.

I forgot -5 to CA! Sorry!
More like Berserker Strenght of Barbarian from Player Handbook 2.
Sesshomaru has the same scores, but consider that Sesshomaru's strenght is greater than Inuyasha.
I think even Indomitable Will could be good.
I think however that playing Inuyasha with a less level adjustment than +3 is impossible.
About creating a full-yokai, well, I think it can be done, but not at a level adjustment less than +6. I guess he can be strong as a vampire.
Remember one thing: if you want to create full-yokai template to make Sesshomaru, consider it is not a inu-yokai but a inu-daiyokai (great dog-yokai), that is a greater template.
However, soon I will post my works... I hope you like them.

Later I will create more "handsome" youkai just like wolf-youkai (like koga), dog-youkai (like sesshomaru), fox-youkai, fire-youkai, ice-youkai, air-youkai (like kagura).

I would lower the skill bonuses a little. start with +2 and go on from there like lvl 1 is +2 lvl 2 is +4 etc. and yeah blades of blood and iron reaver i think were attacks only Inuyasha could do. In addition some of the bonuses need to be spread out a little more too much is given out in one lvl. For example have natural armor increase by 1 every other lvl same with Dr. i mean a lvl 3 gets +2 str +2 con and +2 dex that is A LOT For only lvl 3. also put in a minus -2 cha since most half demos are shunned therefore they really don't know how to talk or communicate to others politely and all that. Last what did you use for the saves and BAB good? average?

as to the windscar i know it would have a wind range and that but one thing i am not sure about it is cant hit be used against nearly anything?

but Inuyasha is not an Outsider Native?
Strogg

01-08-07, 03:20 PM
i would say he is a cross between outsider and magical beast type, but that is just me. but why couldn't he be an outsider native(native only means you dont need true resercetion to be revived).
stranger_among_us

01-08-07, 04:37 PM
"An outsider is at least partially composed of the essence (but not necessarily the material) of some plane other than the Material Plane. Some creatures start out as some other type and become outsiders when they attain a higher (or lower) state of spiritual essence."

This is a part of the description for an Outsider Type taken directly from the Monster Manual. It goes on to explain that an Outsider's body and soul are one, and no soul is released when an Outsider is slain (and therefore, they cannot be raised from the dead). Outsiders do not need to eat or sleep, but can do so if they wish.

Native Outsiders have mortal ancestors or a strong connection to the Material Plane and can be raised from the dead. They also need to eat and sleep. They are native to the Material Plane. This is a subtype only to Outsiders (thus, if you aren't an Outsider, you can't have the Native Subtype).

From these descriptions, being as how there is only the Material Plane and the Spirit World (and you can probably count Hell as a separate one if you want) in Inuyasha, and Inuyasha himself is not composed of spirits and have no ancestors that are from the Spirit World or composed of any materials of the Spirit World (correct me if I'm wrong in any of this), I don't think he's an Outsider of any type--not even the Native Subtype.

The reason that demons of Dungeons & Dragons are Outsiders--if you'll notice their environment--is because they originate in planes other than the Material Plane. If demons in Inuyasha all live on some other plane than the Material Plane and then migrate to the Material Plane so they can kill humans every once in a while, they they would be Outsiders and I'm wrong in every aspect. If they are all born and raised on the Material Plane, just as humans are, then they are just native to the Material Plane. There is no Outsider about them, especially if they aren't "at least partially composed of the essence (but not necessarily the material) of some plane other than the Material Plane."

Also, I'm not sure if Kagome could be considered any kind of Outsider either (for those that got that in their heads from the description above). If she were to be considered an Outsider of any type because she is the reincarnation of a long dead priestess, then anyone who is a reincarnation of any other person (and that may be everyone, depending on the beliefs of the individual) would have to be considered an Outsider of some kind. If everyone is an Outsider, then there are no Native--for lack of a better term--Insiders.

I think Inu and Sesshoumaru would, by the classical D&D nomenclature, be considered either magical beasts or fey. "A fey is a creature with supernatural abilities and connections to nature or to some other force or place. Fey are usually human-shaped." It's quite broad, but technically it could cover them quite well: magical beasts tend to be closer to animals imo. The feral template from Savage Species is great for warriors with an animalistic, vicious side to them (not to mention claws that can rend through anything with less than 8 on the Moh's scale), which is good as fey tend to be, in general, not among the best combatants. Outsiders are also usually strongly tied to their native plane, and I interpret it this way: an outsider is literally a manifestation of the plane, and their "soul" that animates them is a part of the plane's energies; a fey's link is weaker, and while it can still provide for supernatural abilities, a fey is its own, autonomous entity. It is also possible that they are considered monstrous humanoids or shapechangers, depending on which mechanics you like best imo :P

Also, I would like to ask you not to interpret Inuyasha's personal traits as racial such. Just because he's a slightly dumb or incredibly strong hanyou does not mean hanyou in general are less smart or stronger than humans.
stranger_among_us

01-08-07, 07:29 PM
i'd figure magical beast would be closer, but then you could always just make your own.

if you did make your own, you could decide just how powerful a level in that type could be. for example, if you decided to make a "Youkai Type," you could decide that, as an example, they get d8 hit die and 2+int skill points or something. weak youkai may only have 1 hit die, while some stronger ones would get a few more (like levels). all of them may have certain racial bonuses that they all have, but just because one monster is a magical beast doesn't mean that another magical beast will resemble it at all. each different monster has its own special abilities.

so, let's say you make a youkai type like so:

Youkai
hit die: d8
skill points: 2+(int) per hit die
-low-light vision
-natural weapons proficiency
-attack bonus (HD, as fighter)
-good fortitude and reflex
-jewel shard detection (just something thrown in)

now you could make any demon you wanted and they all have these abilities. if you wanted to throw in something that wasn't there, feel free. that's a unique monster (or hero, if you wanted to use something similar for inuyasha). you could use this to make a centipede demon by throwing in improved grab and all kinds of special things that only a centipede demon might have and setting what HD the monster would be, and there you go for everything. each individual demon would have all of their own very special abilities, meaning that something with only 2 or 3 HD could be more powerful than something with 4 or 5 because of some abilities they have.

so, you could make a dog demon monster using those basic things, adding special abilities and qualities as you saw fit. that's a basic monster. THEN you could take that new monster you made and add class levels and/or more levels to make a stronger dog demon (like sesshomaru). they would just have however many levels of youkai that you gave the basic monster before they got class levels (which would total up to their character level).

it's like having a goblin monster (which you kill by the hundreds), and having a goblin monster that's a lot stronger because he's got a few levels in fighter or something (which could be a low-level boss fight). also, you could make more powerful dog demons (like their dad) that could be completely different from another dog demon. sesshomaru could have poison stuff, and others could have anything else.

this is all just suggestion, and you don't have to take that type up there seriously because it was just something quick i did as an example. feel free to do whatever you want with any of it though. i don't care.

funny thing, shaman, i thought of fey too. i also agree about the racial stats based on inuyasha's personality as something i'd want to avoid.

and to reiterate!!! i don't think that everything i put in that type in my last post should be set in stone!!! for example, i don't think all demons would have a BAB equal to their HD (maybe 3/4, like a cleric). that thing was made real quick and only so others could look at it and get an idea of what i was talking about and maybe get some ideas of their own.

and i just think it's funny having inuyasha getting called "fairy" by everyone.
Strogg

01-08-07, 08:16 PM
well one thing i know for sure is they tend to be stronger so a bonus to strength i think is needed maybe +2-4(not sure what the better fit), as for con i think there should also be a bonus but probably a small on like +2 since they most likely have more hp. Also half demons tend to be shunned and usally don't have a good personality and that and also act awkward when in groups of people who probably shunned them when they were young so i think -2cha. as for a race like inuyasha not complete a copy of him i would say for a normal La plot out as follows :
Half Demon (half dog demon/human)
+2 or +4 str
+2 con
-2cha

lowlight vision (maybe darkvision doubt it though)
Scent ( he was able to smell people no one else in his group could see, not sure if it was just him though)
natural weapon proficiency (claws)
claws 1d4 or 1d6 what ever you want (1d4 is minimum but i guess if you find that weak you could go with 1d6)
base land speed of 35 or 40

i now would try to avoid adding skill bonuses i dont think they are need except maybe for spot and listen due to the dog ears and dogs due have better sight. La anywhere from +1-3

I doubt about one thing...
Are you sure youkai in d&d is not a subtype? and is not the subtype called "spirit"?
Why I am asking it?
In Inuyasha even Ryukotsusei and A & Un are youkais....
and in D&D dragons have the subtype spirit...
Well, can't youkai be a subtype?
PsiRadish

01-12-07, 04:37 AM
I think good youkai of a more player-character level to look at would be some of the background characters, like the two wolf youkai always lagging behind Kouga. Although I can't recall if it's ever actually shown what they're capable of. Shippou could also work, he's not particularly powerful. His illusions last for a handful of seconds at most, and do little beyond distract or irritate. His foxfire rarely does much real damage, either.

A new sepparate Youkai type doesn't seem fitting to me. Youkai very A LOT. There's the many magical beast-like animal youkai. Elemental youkai like Kagura. Undead-ish youkai like the Unmother. No idea what Kanna would be - are there negative energy elementals?
Str: +2, Dex: +2, Wis: -2, Cha: -2. Dog Demons are strong and pretty agile but their arrogance at being higher up and longer lived then many races makes them arrogant and willing to dive into battle with little or no concern for them selves. The arrogance you speak of is characteristic of youkai (or in fact anyone in possession of power) in general. Besides that, dog youkai in particular seem to have a fondness for humans (whether they accept it or not). What else is there to sepparate dogs from wolves besides their relationship with humans, after all? All three (or 2.5, technically) dog youkai that have been in the series so far have become attached to at least one human.

And as for rashness and battlelust, near the very beginning of the series Sesshomaru was perfectly willing to leave an obnoxious army of humans in peace. It was they who insisted otherwise. Granted, it was probably because he was going to steal one of their boats, but still.
Tenseiga has an Intelligence of 17, Wisdom of 17, and Charisma of 10; its Ego is 29. It is neutral goodHmm. Sesshomaru was doubtlessly evil at the start of Inuyasha. But Tenseiga does seem to be sentient, and if it is it would definitely be good-aligned. An interesting conflict.
Burning Touch: Tenseiga is intelligent and, in addition to withholding its powers, it will actively attack those who try to wield it against its will. At will, it can deal 3d6 points of damage each round to any nonhuman who touches it; this is pure magical energy and bypasses all energy resistances and spell resistance.I'd make the exception for Sesshomaru (and probably Inuyasha?) explicit here. Also, is it known whether Tensaiga's powers can be used by a human? Only a hanyou or youkai can use Tessaiga's powers, which seem to be powered by the wielder's youki, and it would be odd for Tensaiga's powers to be any different.
Defensive Step: Tenseiga protects its wielder. As far as I know this only happened once, and it was because Sesshomaru was being attacked with the Wind Scar. Tensaiga recognized the power of Tessaiga, and as empowered by their father to keep the brothers from fighting, thwarted the attack as best it could. I don't think it can do that under any other circumstances. I'm not sure about the teleporting, either. Sesshomaru may have just switched to his energy form and zipped away.
Tessaiga is a +5 defending demonbane keen katana that normally appears very battered and worn.Dunno about bane anything, it seems capable of harming all equally. Even humans, what with Inuyasha's father chucking Wind Scars at a human fortress to save Izayoi and all.
Bakuryuha (Su): Translated into Common as Explosive Flowering Wave, and also called the Backlash Wave or Dragon Twister, this is Tessaiga's most powerful attack. No, the most powerful attack is Kongosoha.

You've got a few things missing from Tessaiga. Namely, how holding it protected Kagome from Sesshomaru's poisony acid slime, and how stabbing it into the door of the closet they were hiding in kept them safe from the big spider youkai thing masquerading as a priest.
Inuyasha enters a state similar to a frenzied berserker: he attacks friend and foe alike. He gains a +10 bonus to Strength, and a +6 bonus to constitution.Eeh, it's not that simple. When he transforms normally he's initially perfectly cognisant, capable of thinking and speaking intelligently, and so on. He's just a lot more sadistic and bloodthirsty, and his temper gets A LOT shorter. It's like a temporary alignment shift to chaotic evil. From there he might go truly berserk with the right stimulus; like his brother showing up, for instance.
Inuyasha's template should be called Inu Hanyou (Half-Dog Demon) with this condition of alignment for first: any non-lawful any non-evil.
Non-lawful is the youkai part, and non-evil is the human side.Eh? Humans are quite capable of evil, both in real life and the series, and there's nothing inherently chaotic about being youkai. Sesshomaru strikes me as rather lawful, in fact. Inuyasha shows some lawful tendencies, as well; especially his utter self-sacrificing loyalty to Kikyo. I'd peg him as neutral with good tendencies, overall.
Sankon Tesso can be a special feat, simply Inuyasha can use it as a charging attack, dealing with his natural weapon double damage in charge (just like Flying Kick for unarmed strikes).Sankon Tesso seems more like an uber magic fang like power usable at will, to me: His claws trail yellow streaks of energy as he channels youki into them to make them more powerful, sometimes explosively so. It often appears to extend his reach aswell.
Yes, Windscar does his 100 enemies, but how broken would that be in DnD? We are trying to make it PLAYABLE.Well, you'd do that by keeping it out of the players' hands :P
Also half demons tend to be shunned and usally don't have a good personality and that and also act awkward when in groups of people who probably shunned them when they were young so i think -2cha.That's a property of upbringing, not race. Half-orcs don't have a CHA penalty because every single one was picked on growing up which made them ALL surly. They have a CHA penalty because orcs have CHA penalty for being nasty and brutish by nature, and they share part of that nature.

Looking at the common features of Sesshomaru and the Inu no Taisho, I'd be inclined to say dog youkai are physically attractive and possessed of a regal bearing by nature. Youkai as a whole also tend to be fairly arrogant, but then so do, say, dragons, and they still have very high CHA. So a +2 CHA for dog hanyou could make sense to me. And I certainly can't see the justification for a CHA penalty of any kind.

Good points PsiRadish, very nicely put.

I think the biggest problem is that most people wanting Inuyasha stuff on the boards have only seen the anime, and it was actually cut short.

The manga it's based on, goes much, MUCH further, and has a lot more content to delve into.

Plus, we all have trouble being objective about our favorite heroes. :P We're fan(people) we gush, it's what we do.

Ummm, Let's see... Specific points... I do think the Tenseiga did protect Sesshoumaru, and it could've easily just warned him of the need to whip on out of there.

The wind scar, tricky as it seems, is pretty simple to me. I see it as a cone of sonic energy. Just big enough to get a swarm of a hundred lame ass demons in one shot, since they're so weak compared to the user.

The Tessaiga itself does strike me as demon bane, because, well, if it's made for protecting humans, then you're gonna need that extra edge. As for protecting Kags, well, it's a minor artifact/weapon of legacy, right? It's possible to create a barrier that acts as DR 20/good universal energy resistance 30, right? Only on humans it deems worth protecting, but still, possible.

Yes, we're all products of our upbringing, not only what our parents teach us, but what we've run across in life, and what genes we have. But lets be honest with ourselves here... Have you EVER seen an ugly dog demon? No, you haven't, definitely a Cha bonus there. Why Cha? Well, even evil bloodthirsty killers can bluff and make girls go 'Aaawwww, sooo cuuutteeee.'

Don't deny it, we've all seen it happen. (*Coughs.* Inuyasha crushes Kagome's bike and meets her girlfriends. *Cough.*)

What else, what else? Well, Youkai need either a natural progression, IE; racial levels, or a LA, or a template... I'd go with LA or a five level class. Just me though...

I do think Inuyasha did go all berserk there, so I'd call his full demonblood mode either the feral template, or consider him as having an equal number levels of the barbarian class and, er, was it greater or improved rage? For as long as the full youkai state lasts.

I think that works it out pretty well, maybe add a 5% chance of falling into a frenzy too, just to even things out.

Inuyasha? Neutral good, because he's a well meaning jerk. Sesshoumaru? Lawful Neutral, because, well, he's just cool that way. :P

As for Shippou... Well, remember that thing with his father's pelt and the cool glowy barrier of not-dyingness? Yeah, he's a tiny little baby demon. Give him time. I'd expect that a matured Fox demon would be much more impressive in the results. Hmm, maybe kind of like a shifter, was that the name of the class? Either way, it's worth thinking about.

That's about all I've got for now... Still waiting on figuring out how to make those embedded boxes, so I can put down a class properly...

As for protecting Kags, well, it's a minor artifact/weapon of legacy, right? It's possible to create a barrier that acts as DR 20/good universal energy resistance 30, right? Only on humans it deems worth protecting, but still, possible.I dig it.
Inuyasha? Neutral good, because he's a well meaning jerk.Eh, he's got a soft spot for kids and crying girls, and of course he cares about his friends (though he might not admit it), but otherwise people's problems don't seem to concern him much. If not for Kagome's compassion and Miroku's avarice he'd probably only leave the forest for jewel shards. Once he gets into the swing of it I think he does like the hero act, though, especially if Kagome is watching.
Sesshoumaru? Lawful Neutral, because, well, he's just cool that way. :PAfter Rin works her magic on him, yes, I would agree.
As for Shippou... Well, remember that thing with his father's pelt and the cool glowy barrier of not-dyingness? Yeah, he's a tiny little baby demon. Give him time. I'd expect that a matured Fox demon would be much more impressive in the results.Doubtlessly, but a grown Shippou is still likely to be of a much more moderate power level than Inuyasha and the like.

The mechanics I would have in mind for youkai is that they'd all have a point pool like psionics to power youkai spells/attacks, but their selection of spells/attacks would be rather small. Special youkai weapons and items (like Shippou's toys, perhaps) will then have additional spells/attacks that also draw from the wielder's point pool. In some cases material components might also be necessary, like the leaves that raccoon youkai uses to shapeshift.

Tenseiga learns an offensive move. Meido Zangetsu ha, sends foes straight to the afterlife.

well one thing i know for sure is they tend to be stronger so a bonus to strength i think is needed maybe +2-4(not sure what the better fit), as for con i think there should also be a bonus but probably a small on like +2 since they most likely have more hp.

La anywhere from +1-3

the reason i said that making them a type would be good would be because of the youkai that didn't follow any of those stat increases that you just made there. like i said, a type only has to follow a few general things. just because some demons are usually stronger and stouter than humans doesn't mean that all of them are (shippo, jaken, etc.). some demons will be really wise, some really stupid, some really strong, some really charismatic. each individual youkai would get their own ability bonuses and penalties and feats and skill bonuses and all that. look at this simple example: humans and elves are both humanoid. however, they are both very different. each of the creatures get their own special abilities.

look at any monster of a type and any other monster of the same type. they have vast differences in abilities, feats, powers, skills, etc. the type only differentiates them from the rest of the monsters. it is the base only, meaning that everything about a type is usually very general and doesn't cover abilities or anything that each individual monster has different from the other.

I doubt about one thing...
Are you sure youkai in d&d is not a subtype? and is not the subtype called "spirit"?
Why I am asking it?
In Inuyasha even Ryukotsusei and A & Un are youkais....
and in D&D dragons have the subtype spirit...
Well, can't youkai be a subtype?

i don't know of the spirit subtype in d&d except in oriental adventures, but it could be possible that they could be a spirit subtype if you wanted to play in oriental adventures. the only thing is, what type are they? you could still have a youkai type with a spirit subtype if you wanted, since the spirit subtype doesn't do anything except make them succeptable to commune with greater spirit, invisiblity to spirits, and protection from spirits, or you could make youkai a subtype as well (although i don't think it'd be the same thing as the spirit subtype).

there are demons who are not the spirit subtype, so, no, demons aren't necessarily the spirit subtype (only especially spiritual ones i'd guess, as it is usually attributed to fey, elementals, celestials, ghosts, and, yes, dragons).

while we are talking about oriental adventures, why not throw in the shadowlands subtype? some demons fit in there too. the only thing is, it mostly only works with oriental adventures using taint.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't think being a demon means you have to have the spirit or shadowland type at all. you could be maybe a monstrous humanoid or magical beast type, among other things.

Subtypes.... Yeeashh...

Let's make it easy on ourselves here. New whatever type, Youkai.

Now, before you go all up in arms here, hear me out.

All Youkai share this whatever type, meaning they all ake the same 2d-whatever from Youkai bane. We'll just split them into smaller groups within that type.

Inuyasha, half inu Youkai. Sesshoumaru, inu Youkai. Shippou, fox Youkai. Yura of the hair, humanoid Youkai. Naraku, big stupid looking jerk Youkai.

Get the general idea? It's only a small hassle to deal with. Much more difficult is figuring out what the best way of going about making those inu fang blades.

I still think weapons of legacy would be best. What do you think?

about the swords, someone made some pretty decent stats for them a few posts back. maybe you should look at them and see what you think.

by RazielK:

You can't really give them to level five characters, now can you?

Hence why I push for weapons of legacy, rather than powerful magical weapons, or artifacts.

You can't really give them to level five characters, now can you?

Hence why I push for weapons of legacy, rather than powerful magical weapons, or artifacts.

are you running a game in which a character gets one of these swords? that'd be interesting... i don't really think any of those weapons are meant for 5th level characters, however. not just anyone gets them (they are legendary swords meant for--and only for--the sons of the great dog demon). these weapons can slaughter (or save) armies with a single stroke, after all.

if you want your characters to get these swords, why not do what you normally do in d&d and make them start with normal equipment until they are facing enemies powerful enough to require magic weapons? or if you are dead set on giving these powerful weapons to your players, just remember how powerful they really are (and therefore usually aren't found in the hands of low-leveled characters without a purpose).

well, if you wanted to give them to level 5 characters, maybe you could scale the powers of the swords; they begin as maybe +1 weapons in the hands of an inexperienced adventurer, growing in power (and number of attacks) the stronger the weilder became and the closer the weilder became with the sword. the tessaiga, for example, could function as a normal katana in its withered form (maybe even 1 die less damage--2d6 to 1d6, for example; or the next lowest step in die damage--1d10 to 1d8, or 2d6 to 1d10, for example; or a penalty to damage around -1, -2, or -3 for wear, providing a much weaker counterpart to the magic weapon it can be for balance). you could require the user to succeed a concentration check, or something similar, to make the sword transform (this could become a free action later after becomming more acquainted with the weapon). as the game progresses, include story elements (or work out some leveling process if you wish) that will introduce new attacks to the weapon, also increasing the effectiveness to another +1 magic enhancement. you could argue that this is how inuyasha did it, in a way.

just a suggestion. i really don't know what to tell you if you want legendary weapons that aren't so legendary--except get different weapons.

Technically, anything anywhere can be done with a lvl 9 spell. In his case, however, the heart thing could be an innovative approach to lichdom. Perhaps he's just a transmuter 20?

It just depends on how much you want to do with race, and how much with class levels/abilities. I've seen so many youkai templates it's not even funny anymore; I don't see why Inu-boy can't be done with a dog hengeyoukai who's stuck in hybrid form. So he has low intelligence: blame the dice, not the race :D .

Yura of the hair, humanoid Youkai.I'm not sure, but I think I heard her being called "oni" in the anime, rather than "youkai". Besides that, there's the whole she's-really-a-demonically-possessed-comb thing, and her humanoid form was I think just a construct made of hair that she projected her will into.
Naraku, big stupid looking jerk Youkai.Half youkai, actually. Well, maybe not exactly half, but human enough for it to occasionally make him pout over the indignity of it all.

Oh, and summon lesser-youkai swarm once per day.

Barring a unique youkai type, aberration would seem damned appropriate for the youkai-hybrid spidery bastard. Shapechanger subtype, naturally.

Barring a unique youkai type, aberration would seem damned appropriate for the youkai-hybrid spidery bastard. Shapechanger subtype, naturally.

Sounds like the Pseudonatural template from ELH, lol.

well, why the first the thing I think must done is a list of the youkai types and what types and subtypes must be (example, dog-youkai = outsider shapechanger) and we can start to do a better organizated work.
Well, remember the demonic-youkai such as harpies, nightmares, monster-youkai... (demonic-youkai can be with shadowlands subtype).
Naraku's type is a demonic human-form hanyou, and a shapechanger too.
demonic youkai are creatures who have shoki (miasma) that bring corruption in body. Miasma is kind different from poison even if the effects are similar.
For answer Psi-Radish oni in Inuyasha is a subcategory of youkai.
If you on wikipedia and read the Inuyasha youkai list from one special character book (I don't remember the name but it's written), Yura is a oni, but is a youkai sub-class.

Orrid Wilthing?
mmm... .ehy don't you think miasma is a supernatural special attack?
Naraku uses his youki to concentrate a powerful poisonous aura called Shoki.
However, I've seen one thing: youkai in japanese means in the recent times "monster", and in buddhism is called spirit and demon.
Well, now I want to think one thing: is the youkai term a very general term to tell "monsters"?
In practice, according to Inuyasha, our Manual Of Monsters, can be Manual Of Youkai. In Inuyasha is a too general term I think. Why? dragons, shapeshifters, undead, spirits, aberrations, magical beast ar all youkais in inuyasha such as humanoid and monstrous humanoid (the harpy for an example). I think is so. Even oni are youkais in Inuyasha, well, I think youkai is a too general term. So, make the monsters just like you do in western stories.
This is my point of view.

What about Sango's big ass boomerang? What's it called, Hiraikotsu?

Gargantuan Hunting Boomerang - 3d6 damage

Of course, for this to work, you need the powerful build trait. I'm pretty sure we can all agree that she has it, can't explain how though... It also need to have balance cast on it, be used two handed, and... Oh, actually, I think that's it.

I was gonna suggest a new material, avian demon bone, specifically made to lighten ranged projectiles, but I guess it's not needed, unless someone wants to prove otherwise.

Weird, my spellchecker actually corrected the damn name of the boomerang... Creepy. Oh, nevermind, after I checked it again, it wanted to change it to 'haricots' whatever those are... :P

EDIT - Oh wait, could a haricot be a hairy apricot?

I think that most of these characters can be built with bloodlines and hengeyokai characters. The full blooded youkai would be built with the half demon or fiendish templates, with the bloodlines tacked on to emulate their growth in racial power. Each however is an individual, so the start point should naturally be level 1 (Plus lvl adjustments and racial adjustments.) A human commoner lvl 13 with the Half demon template is not all that dangerous even to a lower level character. Only marginally more dangerous than a regular commoner. It's the addition of class abilities that makes them truly dangerous.
I would think in terms of building them from the ground up. What kind of powers does a level 1 (racial) demon have?
As for the weapons in the game, they're definitely Legacy weapons, or use the hierloom weapon rules.
Interestingly, no-one seems to be using the mechanics for Taint in their figures. Naraku's Miasma is obviously a manifestation of taint, and the Backlash wave would do damage based on the foes taint score (His "Demonic Aura"). When using this mechanic, I would take the suggestion put forth in UA, and make an opposite effect called Purity- Angelic Aura, if you will. Effects that target Taint would then have an opposite that effect Purity.
In closing, It is important to remember that while the translations in these shows use words like demon and so on, Oriental mythology would translate better as spirits, iether tainted, pure, or neutral. Even Inuyasha is technically a hengeyoukai (Half?). Albeit, of a very powerful bloodline.
Ogrelee

03-02-07, 10:31 AM
Also, in further thought, the term youkai seems to cause some confusion. Most oriental mythology, as noted, deals with divine or semi-divine natives, spirits. Their is no Harpy in oriental mythology. This is an evil bird hengeyoukai. To be sure, they have Good counterparts.
True demons are Oni, they come from the Other world, and are non native. Oni are a class of creatures from the other world, and many are creatures of good in oriental myth. I don't remember the name of the realm of the evil dead in Japan. I believe the term most often used comes from Buddhism. I believe a common mistake in the translation of these ideas is that the Spirit world is removed from our own. That's just the wrong context. The spirit world is to the human world as the sports world is to the business world. Not as in: Midgard is to Asgard.
Did I make that clear? The "spirit world " is *not* the realm of the dead, or of Oni or Dieties. It is, for example, remote places were one would find dryads and centaurs. *That* is the "Other world",the japanese equivalent of heaven and hell. It just occurred to me that dbz actually portrays this the best of all the shows I know of, even if it is in a cheesy way.

Miasma- the mere presence of Naraku brings into being a cloud of palpable evil. Similar in many ways to the Cloud Of Taint spell, this effect deals 5d8 points of damage to untainted creatures and sickens them for 1d4 rounds. A successful FORT save vs dc 26 reuces the damage to half, and negates the sickening effect. Sickened creatures must also make a second Fortitude save, or gain 1d3 taint.
The effect deals half damage to creatures with taint scores, and they are not sickened. They can reduce the damage by half again with a successful fortitude save vs dc 26. Such evil creatures automatically recieve 1d4 points of Taint, regardless of their save results. Any creature overcome by this taint automatically becomes enthralled to Naraku, until he chooses to release them. If he desires, he can attempt to re-establish control later, with an opposed charisma check at -3 to the opponents result deciding the winner.

Forgot to include info on dimensions-
Miasma- the mere presence of Naraku brings into being a 500 ft radius cloud of palpable evil, 10 ft deep. Naraku can make the cloud fit whatever dimensions he wants within these limits. Similar in many ways to the Cloud Of Taint spell, this effect deals 5d8 points of damage to untainted creatures and sickens them for 1d4 rounds. A successful FORT save vs dc 26 reduces the damage to half, and negates the sickening effect. Sickened creatures must also make a second Fortitude save, or gain 1d3 taint.

not fimilar with that spell but what exactly is taint?
Ogrelee

03-06-07, 10:42 PM
In the Oriental Adventures book, Taint is the effect of overwhelming evil on it's surroundings. A simpler version is put forward in Unearthed Arcana. Under these rules, any living being is affected to some degree by immersion in the presence of evil. It causes varying degrees of terrible things to happen.
In UA, when an "infected" character dies, they become some form of undead, the exact type based on their character level at death. In this campaign, however, they would simply gain the Fiendish template. Any character with a demonic bloodline would become a half demon, and a half demon would then become an akutsukai. I would make Naraku as a tainted sorcerer (UA) akutsukai, with a few unique powers.

Lesser Abilities
• Feather expansion — Expands her hair decoration(s)(feathers) and fly off on a breeze she has created herself. Fly speed 90ft (average)
• Wind control — Forms any type of wind and controls it.
• Dance of the Wind- she forms wind currents from a gentle breeze to a massive hurricane. Winds form from 5 mph to 120 mph
• Deflect arrows at will- since kagura controls the wind she can deflect or even alter the paths of arrows

if anyone has any ideas on how to stat out Dance of the Dragon, Dance of the Dead, Dance of Blades or know any spells that could simulate them can you tell me? I dont own spell compendium.

Natural armor: at first level and every other level after an Inugami daiyōkai's natural armor increases by 1
A level one Inugami daiyōkai also gains two claws(both hands) of 1d8 piercing and slashing dmg and Scent.
Strength increase: an Inugami daiyōkai at lvl 2,lvl 4, lvl 6,lvl 9, and lvl 14 gains +2 strength (meaning basicly it goes from a total of +2 at lvl 2 to + 10 at lvl 14)
Fast healing: at lvl 4 fast healing 1, lvl 8 fast healing 2, lvl 12 fast healing 3, lvl 16 fast healing 4. lvl 20 fast healing 5.

Dexterity: at lvl 5 and lvl 10 dex increase of +2( total of +4)
Energy Restances: was thinking of a total of 10 for fire frost and some others but not sure.
Mokomoko- the furry part on the right shoulder when in human form that can extend to latch on to foes. Provides +2 on grapple checks. However if the mokomoko is stricken with an attack the pc takes the dmg since the mokomoko is a physical part of the being

True Form: starting at level five a Inugami daiyōkai can fully transform into their true form. Transforming into their true form takes a full round action(may change to standard action). A Inugami daiyōkai can transform as many times as they want and stay in that form for as long as they want. It effectively acts as polymorph, however no hp is gain through changing forms.

At level five an Inugami daiyōkai can transform into a large dog While in this form they gain +2str, -1ac and attack bonus, +2con, reach of 5ft, and claws of 1d10dmg and bite attack 1d12dmg, +4 to grapple.

at level 15 a Inugami daiyōkai can transform into a Gargantuan dog and gains +6str, +6 con, -4 ac and attack, reach of 15ft claws of 2d8dmg and bite of 2d10dmg +12 to grapple.

...All this is well and good, and I especially like the builds for the items of the show and all, but as for the character, just use the racial build given here (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=880235). I wrote this up specifically for a guy who said he wanted to be based off InuYasha, so it should work. I posted the original idea, then updated it as people suggested improvements.

And of course, if you're going to have InuYasha as a party member, there's one foe you're going to have to go up against at one point (and no, I'm not meaning Naraku). I'm meaning Ryokosusei (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=880241)!
Strogg

08-06-07, 04:47 PM
I have already seen both. As to ryokosusei i really don't want to use him just yet my player would just get slaughtered unless i nerfed him and i really do not want to do that. But what is so wrong of using other things from Inuyasha for them to fight? so far this is what i was thinking for something like kagura but i need some other people's opinions on it.

Lesser Abilities
• Feather expansion — Expands her hair decorations(feathers) and fly off on a breeze she has created herself. Fly speed 90ft (clumsy)
• Wind control — Forms any type of wind and controls it. delfect arrows at will.
• Dance of the Wind- she forms wind currents from a gentle breeze to a massive hurricane. Winds form from 5 mph to 120 mph
players move at half speed do to the intense wind and if they jump in the air they are pushed back 10 feet. players can ignore the half speed with
a strength check on 16
• Deflect arrows at will- since kagura controls the wind she can deflect or even alter the paths of arrows.

Greater Abilities:
Dance of the Dragon: Kagura swipes her fan and forms 1 twister 20by20 or 3 twisters 10by 5. The twisters once created last for 1d6 rounds and can move 30ft a round. A player caught inside a twister must make a balance check DC 20 or be knocked prone and must make a strenth check dc 15 or only move half speed while in the twister.

Dance of the Dead: Any dead corpses come to life under Kagura's control. there is no apperent limit to how many dead she can control. The dead will continue to fight until their bodies are completly destroyed (each corpse gains +20hp)

Dance of Blades: Line effect: 5 wide by 40ft long. Kagura swipes her fan in the air to form blade like wind currents that fly towards the enemy and do slashing dmg.1d6 Per HD. Reflex save 18 to negate.

If you're going to play as InuYasha, then might you consider using the race that I came up with, the Bengalii (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=880235), with him wearing the Robe of the Fire Rat (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=910450).

Weapons of legacies. You can make tons of cool weapons. Or just an intelligent sword that launches a blast of force.

I seem to remember statting up Tetsusaiga as a WoL, which got Wind Scar as it's Least Legacy, Backlash Wave as it's Lesser, and Adamant Barrage as it's Greater. All required a Concentration check, and did damage based off that check. Wind scar was damage equal to your concentration check in d4s (so getting a 14 Concentration would deal 14d4 damage), and so forth.

Thanks for all the help, I already saw the Bengalii race, and I really like it, I am already using it for his race, and I think it is a really good race :D and I may use the Robe, I was just going to make padded armor with fire resistance 30, but that would probably be cheaper and more practical. I am looking into Weapons of Legacy, and if you all think that it will work well, then thats what I will use. Thanks again :D . By the way, you all wouldn't happen to have any classes for him to use? Right now, I have been making him a barbarian, since I only have access to the core 3 books, and it seemed to fit with his personality and powers a little, with him flying into rages in battle, not the full demon rage, but just getting mad and hitting things. But if anyone has a class that they think would fit him better, I am open to suggestions, I can get access to other books, just tell me which book it is in. Thanks for any help.

Well, I guess that I could make it give immunity to fire, but that would cost a lot more gp, so maybe I could use a lesser version at first, and then get full immunity to fire and some acid resistance later, when the gp is available. If anyone knows a class for an Inuyasha character to use, I would be glad to hear it, I could use any help anyone is willing to give me. The character I am using now though is a cleric, and I was going to base him off of Miroku, since I have no originality for making characters, and I thought it would be cool to play as. I am even going to get a wind tunnel, but I don't know how I am going to make that work. So, any tips on making a Miroku or Inuyasha character would be appreciated.

hmm for the wind tunnel i think it would be a cone effect start with 5ft at the hand and extending to a wider range of effect. the dc would be 10 + con mod and maybe add the person's character level to it. to restist being sucked it i thing the opposing player would have to roll a d20 and add their str mod. But if you have it on a player make them have to roll a dc for every year their person is alive. remember it is a curse and does expand over time. i would say it would be dc 10 + 1/4 characters age foritude save negates being sucked in your own wind tunnel.

Wow, you work fast lol. I was thinking about making it a wind spell that blows them towards the user, like Gust of Wind, but making pull them in instead of pushing them, and make it scale with your level. I think there is a spell, on the sorc/wiz or druid spell list that the wind speeds scale up with your level, and if they got sucked in then it would be like an orb of annihilation. The idea for the fort save is good, but I don't think my character could make the save, I am only level 3, but my DM is letting us get a lot of things that we normally wouldn't get since we usually don't get past the 5th level, this way we get to do cool things. I think if it could be tweaked to make it easy for lower people, or at least making it survivable, and then it also scales up for each year that you have it. I am also open to ideas for feats, equipment, and those kinda things for an Inuyasha character or my Miroku monk. If you need stats for them, I could put them up here.

As for InuYasha's class, most definitely Fighter. For the Wind Tunnel, already done here (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=906718). And before you ask, here's Kagome's Sacred Arrows (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=906052), as well. And here's Myoga's race (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=912233), in case he shows up.

Thanks for the info, Aleolus, I like the wind tunnel and the arrows and Myoga, but why do you think that Inuyasha would be a fighter? I personally think that he would be a barbarian, since he doesn't seem to use and feats or combat maneuvers like a fighter does, he just kinda hits things until they are dead. I'm open to any reasons about why you think he is a fighter though, so, if you can give me a good reason then I will agree with you.
Aleolus

10-01-07, 02:56 PM
Yes, but InuYasha does not rage. And fighters are also "hit things until they die." He's just put all of his feats into stuff you can take multiple times which stack.
RaythMolba

10-01-07, 03:00 PM
Ah, well, that makes sense. Well, Inuyasha does kinda rage, he will get mad and hit harder, and he also has his demon rage, but that isn't really something that I know how to recreate. What kind of feats do you think Inuyasha would have taken then? I'm kind of interested in how to make him as a fighter, I never thought to do that, since I am bad at making fighters I think.

I can safely say leap attack and power attack are pretty much given :) . Apart from that, dodge and mobility may also be his thing, and possibly any feats that originate from them. I can't think of anything else at the moment, but I'll keep in touch. TBH, I would prefer an initiator, feral-themed psywarrior, barbarian or ranger for him, but fighter is possible.
RaythMolba

10-01-07, 06:07 PM
Yeah, I was thinking barbarian since they are usually seen using huge weapons as a stereotype, but ranger is an interesting idea. The only possible problem is that Inuyasha doesn't really seem to have an animal companion. But I remember that in one of the books they had rules where if spellcasters chose to get rid of their familiars or other things they would get bonuses, so if anyone knows one of those rules for an animal companion then we could use that. But that would require him to use bows or 2 weapons, which is kind of odd I think. Where is initiator from? I don't recognize the name, so I would be glad to find out about it. I like the feat choices, btw.
The_Shaman

10-01-07, 07:02 PM
Just because he can get a companion doesn't mean he needs to. If you want to get something good from it, I think Dragon Magazine had an option called solitary hunter that gave attack bonuses vs favored enemies instead. It might be in the crystalkeep base class compendium - if it can somehow be slipped past the license, it's there. Still, it would not quite be my top choice, but it can work. Likewise, rangers can go for two-handed weapons, although the most effective way would be to use a two-handed weapon and an off-hand attack of some sort - armor spikes, unarmed strike, etc. However, one of the variant ranger combat styles may be more fitting.

"Initiators" is afaik the general name for all ToB classes. He could be a passable swordsage or warblade, imo.

10-01-07, 07:08 PM
Ya, but if he didn't get an companion then he would be wasting a perfectly good class ability. But if anyone could find that feat that lets you get the attack bonuses, then it could work. But it still wouldn't be my first choice either, I would prefer something with more of a melee touch to it, ranger is too much of an archery class for me, and even with two weapon fighting, that still doesn't capture the whole feel. Thats why I was thinking of using barbarian.

Friend suggested maybe a cross-class, Barbarian/Fighter. I think that fits best.
RaythMolba

10-01-07, 07:21 PM
I think that could work out, but what kind of feats and stuff would you take for him?
Strogg

first let me just say i am so happy that this thread didn't die :D

as for feats here is just a small list: power attack, weap focus and spec(fullblade or what ever version of his sword you are using) spring attack, leap attack, mantis leap.

if anyone wants the soul collectors for kikyo here they are http://forums.gleemax.com/wotc_archive/index.php/t-700836

I think great falchion (Sandstorm, 1d12, 18-20x2, EWP required) would be much more appropriate for a sword like Tessaiga. I'd probably make it a legacy weapon, but you might not want to bother with the mechanic and the drawbacks (which imo are strangely high for most such weapons, but still). Anyway, other feats might focus on resistance and power. While normally a substandard feat, Cleave/Great Cleave might suit some of the characters well - I think both Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru have often torn through several enemies with one blow.

"Cleave/Great Cleave might suit some of the characters well - I think both Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru have often torn through several enemies with one blow."

that is true but if we were to make everything exactly fit the two i highly doubt there is a dm who would let it be played. (no offense, it would just cause so many dm headaches) if anyone is going to be a Inuyasha like character and such talk with your dm about havening some feats for free, this also goes with anyone else playing. I mean some feats like power attack and such everyone should be able to do off the get go( but that is just me). btw if i repost my sesshoumaru like race would anyone look over it and comment on it? last time i posted it people kind of just glanced over it and didn't say much about it.

I wouldn't mind looking over the race Strogg, but I'm not really that good at that kind of thing, so I don't know how good my advice would be. I was thinking about playing his as a barbarian though, since he would get the bonus movement from the Bengalii race, and the bonus from being a barbarian would give him 50 movement at level 1, which fits his speed, and he would get 2 rages per day, and the barbarians class skills kinda fit what Inuyasha does, and if you put his ability scores right he could like max out all of his important skills. I did make a level 1 Inuyasha barbarian, and I made a level 20 version, but I didn't have anything to use except the 3 core books, so he is kinda plain, but he has a good amount of his skills maxed out, and I would play as him if i have the chance. I can post it if anyone wants me to.

I looked at the race, and I like it, but I think it needs some kind of level adjustment, they will eventually get all kinds of bonuses on their strength and dexterity, and constitution that if you add them to any bonuses that they have already, then they could get a pretty big number, plus they get fast healing and energy resistance, and being able to transform into the dog could make them a little higher. I am not really good at setting those kind of things though, so I don't know what kind to give it, but it seems like it would have a pretty high level adjustment. I am willing to help any way that I can though.

i actually didnt up date that post so here is the updated version

True Form: starting at level five a Inugami daiyōkai can fully transform into their true form. Transforming into their true form takes a full round action. A Inugami daiyōkai can transform as many times as they want and stay in that form for as long as they want. It effectively acts as polymorph, however no hp is gain through changing forms. Also similar to alternate form

At level five an Inugami daiyōkai can transform into a large dog While in this form they gain +4str -1ac and attack bonus +2con, reach of 5ft and, claws of 1d10dmg and bite attack 1d12dmg, +4 to grapple

at level 10 a Inugami daiyōkai can transform into a Huge dog and gains +6str -2 ac and attack, reach of 10ft, +4 con claws of 2d6dmg and bite of 2d8dmg +8 to grapple

at level 15 a Inugami daiyōkai can transform into a Gargantuan dog and gains +8str +6 con -4 ac and attack, reach of 15ft claws of 2d8dmg and bite of 2d10dmg +12 to grapple

at level 20 a Inugami daiyōkai can transform into a Colossal dog and gains +10str +8con - 8 attack/ac reach of 20ft, claws of 2d10dmd and bite of 3d8dmg +16 to grapple

Constitution increase: at lvl 3, lvl 12, and lvl 18 con increases by 2(total of +6 at lvl 18)

Mokomoko- the furry part on the right shoulder when in human form that can extend to latch on to foes it has a reach of 20ft. The mokomoko grants a +2 bonus on an opposed attack roll to disarm an opponent and a +2 bonus to trip. In addition, it provides +2 on grapple checks for the mokomoko will constrict around the opponent. However, the player still provokes attack of opportunity normally when disarming or tripping unless he/she has the improved trip/disarm feats. Mokomoko is treated as having improved grab. (might give a constrict attack like a 1d4 +1/2 str something along those lines.

Other notes: an Inugami daiyōkai is so adept at using their claws they use full str bonus instead of half. (lizard folk I believe do the same)

Class Skills: ?

Yokai
hit die: d8
skill points: 3+(int) per hit die
-dark vision 60ft
-natural weapons proficiency
-simple weapons proficiency
-martial weapons proficiency
attack bonus (as clericr)
good fortitude and will
plus 100 percent holy dmg (they are still considered evil due to being an youkai)
alignment:any but mostly chaotic and tend to be on the evil side

Ability to use unholy weapons
Any spell that does dmg to evil also can dmg an Yokai
can not use holy weapons or holy things of any kind
immunity to unholy dmg ,
shadow land taint resistance (+2 on taint saves)

fast healing i put in just to really give it flavor. i mean fast healing +1 every 4 levels isn't that good in combat. just good out of combat. I also got rid of the dex increase and changed the base attack bonus to average or clerics BAB, and transforming now takes a full round action to do so it would take 2 rounds to transform and go back to human form. HD same as last post, will Good, reflex poor, fort good.

Looks good. And Fast Healing, even slight Fast Healing, is always useful. Not as useful as Regeneration would be, but still useful.

If someone wanted to play Inuyasha without a template, he could use this setup:

Bloodhound 10 - Scent and Inuyasha's tendency to go after specific enemies
Ninja 7 - Speed, jumping, etc.
Barbarian 3 - Larger HD, Fast Movement, Rage
