| Raven Dark08-22-03, 04:49 PM | Match #1: Roland Goodknight VS RavenDark Roland (the challengee) is a tenth level human paladin who fights for the forces of good. The aura of goodness just wreaks off this guy. RavenDark (the challenger) is a fifth level Necromancer, fifth level Shadow Adept who seeks to rule Kedi's Killing Fields as Champion. He is also as scary as he is short. When we last left off, Roland had been crippled by a combination of R.D.'s Maximized Ray of Enfeeblement and his own fullplate. Roland readies his crossbow to defend himself as R.D. prepares another deadly spell... |
| Nightingale 708-22-03, 06:22 PM | Uuuum Ravendark, perhaps you should inform Kedi that you have relocated the thread.Maybe post something in the "yellow forums"?Just make sure to end your fight with the Paladin quickly necromancer!Just so we could see how you fair against another practitioner of the Art! |
| Raven Dark08-22-03, 06:50 PM | Please don't post here unless you are a combatant and please turn off your end quotes too so the page loads faster. Thanks! Related commentary should be posted here: The Fight Club (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=1130647#post1130647) Also, the Wizos locked our thread in the yellow area and routed us here. I'm waiting for Kedi to find it. You'll inform him when you see him won't you? |
| Raven Dark08-22-03, 07:53 PM | Is Roland blind Kedi? If so: *Casts a second Blindness/Deafness spell in an attempt to deafen Roland* If not: *Casts a second Blindness/Deafness spell in an attempt to blind Roland* Its your turn Kedi! |
| kedi08-23-03, 02:43 AM | I just saw, now, we're were we? yeah, you were casting blindness/deafness yet again. <He hit you with his crossbow while you were casting, but you tried to concentrate and succed. But he resists yer spell yet again. now his ready with his crossbow.> |
| Raven Dark08-23-03, 03:06 AM | *Realizes that he has become visible* "You die now Paladin." *Moves into melee range, and casts Empowered Vampiric Touch and attempts to kill the now prone Roland* If you prepared an action again you will probably try and shoot R.D., in which case he will make his own AoO (since Roland fired in melee) and stab him with a longsword followed by the actual attack roll with his Empowerd Vampiric Touch. If you don't use your prepared action, R.D. still gets his Empowered Vampiric Touch without a chance for interruption. Just letting you know what R.D. does if you do or do not decide to use your prepared action, just to help speed things up. In any case, it is getting late now. I might not have much opportunity to do this again Saturday as I am hosting a D&D game for my friends (Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil). I'll try to get back to you, but don't be surprised if it is not very often--if at all. This might be stalled until Sudnay depending on how things work out. Good night and thanks for everything! Go ahead and resolve my actions as well as your next turn. I'll be back ASAP. |
| kedi08-23-03, 05:21 AM | don't worry, hes dead:D you gain let see: 1000 xp |
| Raven Dark08-24-03, 01:05 PM | MATCH #2 Gippedor Barnackle VS RavenDark Gip (as he likes to be called) is a tenth level rock gnome sorcerer of unbelievable might and magic. His flaming red hair and deep green eyes set him apart even from the other gnomes. Some say it is from the powerful raw magic running through his veins... RavenDark is a fifth level Sun Elf Necromancer, fifth level Shadow Adept with many strengths and weaknesses. He is a master of strategy and tactics and is even more cunning and intelligent than his nose is crooked. Truly one to be feard simply for his vile tricks of deception and his knack at hitting his opponents with painful and debilitating spell effects before slaying them without mercy as they lay helpless. *Ravendark awaits for the appearance of today's opponent within the center of the arena, sitting calmly on the hard stone thinking of strategy... ...always thinking of strategy* The paladin was a push over, but Ravendark knows the power of the Art well, thus he never underestimates the power of any one spellcaster. |
| Nightingale 708-24-03, 02:09 PM | Gip enters the field casually walking towards Ravendark. "Greetings wizard, may it be a nice mageduel" Gip approaches Ravendark. He stops in front of him and thrusts his hands forwards. They start to illuminate with a golden light, the energy from which the mageduel cube will be made. |
| kedi08-24-03, 02:13 PM | <the shadow enters in and asks "are you ready mages?"> |
| Nightingale 708-24-03, 02:22 PM | "I'm ready master of the games.Just waiting for Ravendark's contribution in creating the arena." |
| kedi08-24-03, 02:24 PM | all right nightingale, if ravendark doesn't shoe up fer 10 minutes, you'll begin first. <shadow disappears> |
| Raven Dark08-24-03, 02:30 PM | *and with R.D.'s added power, the areana is quickly constructed.* "Are you ready to feel the pain and agony I shall beset upon you, young one?" Kedi, did you get the HTML for my updated character sheet on the other thread? "At my hands you shall wither and die a horrible death, and by the behest of the God's of the Art, you shall be spared to spread the word of the Raven." *Starts laughing in eager anticipation as he and Gip make further arrangements* Next, we get in our positions and cast spells for three rounds. Just list the spells you cast, but no metagaming, okay. |
| kedi08-24-03, 02:33 PM | yeess, yessss, just spells, one of you will die, one of you will live, kedi pleases(I know tis a mageduel raaven, just sounding it cool:D) Nightingale, yer up, and ravendark yer second, mey the duel begins.... |
| kedi08-24-03, 02:36 PM | don't forget: even if its yer turn, wait for me to post like: nightingale me ravendark me nightingale me ok? |
| Nightingale 708-24-03, 02:40 PM | "You are too fast to judge me necromancer. The contest has not even begun.Be thankful that our challenge is not lethal." Ok Kedi,no problem. |
| Nightingale 708-24-03, 02:43 PM | *Gip gets out of the edge of the arena and casts his first spell on himself,See Invisibility* |
| Raven Dark08-24-03, 02:45 PM | Cool. All I ask is that you remove your end quotes at the end of each post so that this goes much faster. Should we cast our three spells then? |
| kedi08-24-03, 02:46 PM | no ravendark, you can't, that'll only torchure me,... ravendark yer on |
| Raven Dark08-24-03, 02:54 PM | *Casts Protection From Elements (Fire)* |
| kedi08-24-03, 02:55 PM | ok, nightingale: |
| Nightingale 708-24-03, 02:59 PM | *Casts Nondetection on self* |
| kedi08-24-03, 03:01 PM | good, very good spells indeed, i want to see some action ravendark, be quick |
| Raven Dark08-24-03, 03:09 PM | "I apologize for my lack of haste shadowy one. These things take time." *Casts Mage Armor* |
| kedi08-24-03, 03:14 PM | <does homer simpson>dow! dow! dow! dow!</does homer simpson> okay, as you wish, night: |
| Nightingale 708-24-03, 03:29 PM | *Casts Eagle's Splendor on self* |
| Raven Dark08-24-03, 03:44 PM | Kedi, I'm waiting for you to confirm. |
| Nightingale 708-24-03, 04:19 PM | Hey,Kedi,you still here?We have a mageduel to begin. |
| kedi08-25-03, 02:19 AM | Sorry, man really, ravendark yer on: |
| Raven Dark08-25-03, 10:05 AM | *Casts Maximized Chill Touch* I'm going job hunting in town today. I'll be gone for most of the afternoon, but I'll see about making it back later this evening. Don't go without me, please. Sorry for the incoveniance. In the meantime, the sorcerer may take his first turn within the arena if he wins initiative then Kedi can entertain us with stories on the main thread as to "why he mysteriously disapeared for several hours" until I get back. |
| Nightingale 708-25-03, 11:28 AM | "Master of the games, can we proceed in the arena to begin the mageduel?" |
| kedi08-25-03, 12:07 PM | nightingale yer on, sorry, went to hospital, nothin to worry but it was important ravendark, |
| Nightingale 708-25-03, 12:14 PM | Glad you are fine Kedi:) Gip looks at Ravendark,a mischievious smile on his face "Now you see me,now you don't!" *Casts Greater Invisibility, then moves 20 feet forward and to the right of Ravendark. He should be approximately 80 feet from the necromancer* |
| kedi08-25-03, 12:26 PM | thx, raven yer on: |
| Raven Dark08-25-03, 03:59 PM | *Steps into the arena and casts See Invisibility* "You think you can hide from me young one?! If you have any hope of beating me try something a little less common and obvious then a simple invisibility spell." I don't see this as metagaming as my character knows that spell too, but if you want, Kedi, you can have my character make a spellcraft check to identify his spell as he casts it. My job interview was short. I'm posting from a library computer now. It will take me about anohter hour to get home. |
| Nightingale 708-25-03, 04:12 PM | Sorry, but I have cast Nondetection in the warm up time. You have to beat a caster level check of 25 or else your divination spells(see invisibility) don't work on me.Take that in consideration Kedi |
| Raven Dark08-25-03, 06:23 PM | I'm not so sure that spell applies to SEE INVISIBILITY, as it is not mentioned in the text (it is not a detect spell nor is it among the list that nondetection protects from). I too ask Kedi to consider this. Time for a DM ruling I guess. |
| Nightingale 708-25-03, 06:37 PM | Well,my PHB says that a warded item requires a level check of 11+caster level, but if you cast it on yourself oran item you possess then it is 15+caster level. |
| kedi08-26-03, 03:30 AM | your see invisibleity is not succesful, proceed please: |
| Nightingale 708-26-03, 08:44 AM | "Strange,it seems that despite my simple spell you still can't see me necromancer. It makes me wonder..." *Gip casts True strike and then moves 20 feet forward as silently as possible.60 feet distance from Ravendark* |
| kedi08-26-03, 12:01 PM | raendar: |
| Raven Dark08-26-03, 03:07 PM | I heard his character talking, right? Which direction did it come from? From R.D.'s front, left, or right? I know I can't pinpoint him, but I'll take what I can get. *Casts Summon Swarm to summon a swarm of bats as near to his voice as the DM will allow.* "No matter, young one, my bats shall use their echo-location to find you and tear you apart!" Swarms have blindsense out to 20 ft. I intend to find you, one way or the other. |
| Nightingale 708-26-03, 03:45 PM | Hey Kedi, can I attempt to counterspell it with Dispel Magic? If I remember correctly in the mageduel each participant can attempt as an extra action to counter a spell that they recognise through spellcraft. |
| Raven Dark08-26-03, 06:05 PM | Don't forget Kedi, I am a Shadow Adept with several feats that make my spells harder to dispel. He has to pass s caster level check DC 25 before he can even try his normal dispel check. |
| Nightingale 708-26-03, 06:38 PM | I admit my chances are slim, but even if I don't counter it,your spell is still a full round one, meaning that it starts working at the beginning of your next round.I should have ample time to break your concentration:devil: |
| Raven Dark08-26-03, 07:12 PM | Actaully, N7, you are mistaken. It takes a full round action to cast, not a full round. It just means that I am limited to only a 5-foot step before or after the spell in the round. It still goes off (and acts immedietly) on my initiative count on the round that I cast it. The text in the PH in the spells chapter is, and always has been, misleading. |
| Nightingale 708-26-03, 07:27 PM | Yes,I am well aware of this Ravendark, but there are spells that require a full round action(like a metamagicked sorc spell) as well as spells that take a full round and start working on the caster's next turn.It had been my impression that summon spells belonged to the second category, though I may be wrong.Let's leave Kedi to decide. |
| Raven Dark08-26-03, 09:39 PM | The one form of full orund in which you refer to (and of which I have heard of before from others) does not exist. It is merely a common misconception. Also, do you have MSN Instnat Messenger? I would love to have such debates/discussions without clogging the areana thread. |
| kedi08-27-03, 03:41 AM | very good, you were srguing while i was asleep :) well, you attempt to, but you fail my good old dude, theyre very close to you, 25 fts. and they can sense you soon, what you do? |
| Nightingale 708-27-03, 09:10 AM | Kedi where are the bats in relation to me and Ravendark?I guess the bats materialised where I was standing when I talked, right? If so,I'm moving 20 feet forward putting a 45 feet space between me and the swarm, and I'm 40 feet from Ravendark. *Casts Enervation at Ravendark* "Have a little of your own medicine necromancer!" |
| kedi08-27-03, 09:52 AM | well ravendark, you feel bad, so bad that you feel missing something, like you lost some of your power, and go on |
| Raven Dark08-27-03, 12:10 PM | Actually Kedi, I would like to counter that with my own enervation spell. "For sombody who can't be seen, you sure don't know how to stay quite! Oh well, maybe Evard will shut you up!" *Casts Evard's Black Tentacles on his voice location* The radius for this spell is 20 ft, so I'm confident that I will get it close enough to grapple him with the spell. Oops, I guess that means that I lose concentration on my swarm. They will dissapear in 2 rounds. :( |
| kedi08-27-03, 12:38 PM | you cast yer spelli but he concetrates so bad, he casts his spell succesfuly, and all the things i told before |
| kedi08-27-03, 12:39 PM | nightingale yer on |
| Raven Dark08-27-03, 12:42 PM | Concentration? The counter should be automatic if I passed my spellcraft check to identify his spell. *Continues to cast Evard's Back Tentacles in response* |
| kedi08-27-03, 01:04 PM | okay, you counterspelled, i just read yer post wrong nightingale yer on |
| Raven Dark08-27-03, 01:16 PM | Did my Tentacles get him? |
| kedi08-27-03, 01:18 PM | I'll say, let him cast a spell first |
| Raven Dark08-27-03, 01:22 PM | Why? Order of Events: Gip's Turn: Casts Enervation which I counterspelled. R.D.'s Turn: Casts Evard's Black Tentacles (hopefully) at Gip. Gip: Does whatever AFTER my spell resolves. |
| kedi08-27-03, 01:27 PM | look!! if i said" hey gip, you struck with the tentacles and yer spell is broken!" he wouldn't cast a spell or "hey gip! yer succesfully casting, are you" if i said that, he would cast a spell, let him try to cast a spell, i'll tell you if hes struck or not! rrrrghh -kedi |
| Raven Dark08-27-03, 01:29 PM | If thats the way you want to play it boss. |
| kedi08-27-03, 01:58 PM | :nonono: no, i do this to make you guys happy, but trust in me, im taking all the things, warn me when i make mistakes but,... i'll take care of the rest. -kedi "now where is nightingale?" |
| Raven Dark08-27-03, 06:11 PM | Originally posted by kedi No, I do this to make you guys happy. Never were truer words ever spoken by a DM. However, you should be having fun too, or else the point is moot. I apologize for being a rules lawyer, I usually play the role of DM so it is somewhat difficult for me to follow rulings that I disagree with, but I digress; it is YOUR club and I'll be fine so long as the rules are fair and a wrong or mistaken ruling doesn't lead to R.D.'s undeserved defeat. You make a great DM. Now, about your spelling... :D |
| kedi08-28-03, 02:56 AM | well, thx fer yer post, I enjoy too, don't get me wrong, but if nightingale doesn't show up today I gonna cut-------------------------------- ! -kedi:rofl::P |
| Raven Dark08-28-03, 05:10 AM | I wouldn't worry about Nightengale, today is my first day of college and I won't be getting back until approximately 5 p.m. this evening (Eastern time). I don't know if I will have access to any computers in the meantime, so you two should just relax, take a refresher course on the rules, and even take a vacation for the day maybe. Such absenses of mine will continue every Tuesdays & Thrursdays (College), & Saturdays (Home RPGs to attend to) starting today. Be forewarned! |
| Nightingale 708-28-03, 10:31 AM | Sorry guys.I'm away from home, but thankfully I have access to a computer.Well,he is casting Evard's on me right? I'm using my ring of counterspells with the greater dispelling to try to counter Evard's.Then I cast fly and fly 30 feet diagonally up and toward Ravendark.Approximately 20 feet high and 20 feet away from Ravendark. |
| Raven Dark08-28-03, 11:40 AM | You put Evard's Tentacles in your ring? I must say I didn't see that one coming. You must have seen my fight against Roland to have known that, that spell was coming. "You surprise me young one, but how long can your luck hold?" By the way, I'm posting off the campus computer in between classes. |
| Nightingale 708-28-03, 11:59 AM | Hey,I wouldn't stoop to such low metagaming Ravendark, although I did read your fight.Read my post more carefully, the ring contains Greater Dispelling. It still has a fair chance at dispelling your spell though. |
| Raven Dark08-28-03, 04:55 PM | That works? I never thought of putting Greater Dispelling in the ring before. If it does work, it seem a little overpowered to me. I'm not so sure it would dispel anything except the spell Greater Dispelling when it is cast against you. Kedi, I ask for a ruling on this matter. |
| Nightingale 708-29-03, 08:54 AM | Hey,it has the same limitations as Dispel Magic. It is not guaranteed to work, but it has a chance.Since it says up to 6th level I chose Greater for the higher caster level. |
| Nightingale 709-02-03, 07:44 AM | (let's assume the dispelling worked) *Gip discharges the improved invisibility, and walks toward Ravendark* "You are a worthy opponent elf,our mastery of the art is at the same level. The fight could continue for a long time before one of us emerges victorious.I suggest we call it a draw, and let the other combatants entertain the audience. After all,a mageduel is not supposed to be a public spectacle." *Gip smiles, and extends his hand to the necromancer for a handshake.* |
| kedi09-02-03, 09:14 AM | Very good, gentleman yer are ye? I apreciate, and you both gain 500 xp as a gift, :D |
| kedi09-04-03, 09:12 AM | A new tournament is growing!! Check the meeting hall! http://www.members.shaw.ca/eogan/emoticons/duel.gif |
| Finwe09-08-03, 08:20 PM | hey kedi, Aust and I are going to have a deathmatch, ok? |
| Raven Dark09-08-03, 08:51 PM | I now declare the third match of Kedi's Killing Fields! Emeralda Kasim VS Thargon Nightbane in a match to the death! I present to you ladies and gentlemen, the following meatbags, eh, contestants: Emeralda Kasim is a powerful Human Wizard 10, who's conjuration and spacial magic is legendary. He is feared not for his magic, but for his minions, for in a matter of moments he can conjure up a small army to aid him in any given situation. Thargon Nightbane is a cunning Elven Sorcerer 10, who is known as the lady's elf and a master of the abusive wit. He is feared for his ability to cut down his opponents with mere commentary. His evocations spells are nasty too. Now, before we start: You both realize that this match is to the death, right? Okay. No hitting below the belt, no signatures, and no eye gouging! We want a good clean match (with lots of blood)! |
| Finwe09-08-03, 08:55 PM | Haw Haw And yes, we do understand to the death, etc etc etc |
| Raven Dark09-08-03, 08:56 PM | The two contestants stand at a thousand paces (500 feet) and are ready to ahnialate each other at the first blink. *Rolls initiative* |
| Aust Evermore09-08-03, 09:04 PM | Dear god protect me and my weak flesh. |
| Finwe09-08-03, 09:07 PM | I cast a fireball at Aust |
| Aust Evermore09-08-03, 09:13 PM | I cast Fireball. |
| Raven Dark09-08-03, 09:14 PM | Emeralda, you see a red bead fly through the air at you with unblievable speed. Before you can blink you relize that you have no eyelashes to blink with as they have been charred off your face. |
| Aust Evermore09-08-03, 09:23 PM | I move forward as much as I can |
| Raven Dark09-08-03, 09:33 PM | Thargon, you see your foe step up 30 feet and reply with a fireball of his own. You hit the ground jsut in time as flames envelop your backside. As you get back to your feet and look at yourself, you find that you are hurt badly, but appear to be doing better than your foe. Emeralda smiles with sooted teeth. |
| Finwe09-08-03, 09:37 PM | I cast fireball again :Let the body(ies) hit the floor! |
| Raven Dark09-08-03, 09:42 PM | Emeralda, another fireball comes your way and blasts into your chest. Another hit like that and you may not last. |
| Aust Evermore09-08-03, 09:48 PM | I cast Greater Invisibility, and move 30ft to the left. |
| Raven Dark09-08-03, 09:49 PM | Thargon, your opponent who once was a smoldering pile of ash and soot suddenly vanishes. |
| Finwe09-08-03, 09:50 PM | I cast a wall of force in front of me to block any of his spells |
| Raven Dark09-08-03, 09:57 PM | Emeralda, you see your opponent casting a spell, but nothing seems to happen. (Remember, you can't see the wall, so no metagaming) |
| Aust Evermore09-08-03, 10:02 PM | I pull out a hand size marble statue and place it on the ground, I wisper arise my monster arise!!!!!!!!!! You see an Elephent arise from the ground. I levatate on top of it and it runs 160 feet towards you. |
| Finwe09-08-03, 10:04 PM | I dash to the side of the wall, and cast FIREBALL at it. |
| Raven Dark09-08-03, 10:10 PM | Thargon, as quickly as you foe dissapeared, a new, bigger one appears in front of you some 465 feet away. It charges at you at great speed. By the time you react, it is only 305 ft. away ready to trample you into the earth. |
| Aust Evermore09-08-03, 10:14 PM | I cast fireball at you and take a bottle out of my robes. My elephante runs another 160ft |
| Raven Dark09-08-03, 10:15 PM | Emeralda, you see Thargon dash to the right and blast at your beast with a FB. The flames lick at your sides as you cling to your beast for cover. Thargon, you see the beast looming largely... ...threateningly. |
| Raven Dark09-08-03, 10:17 PM | The elephant is now 145 feet away. |
| Finwe09-08-03, 10:20 PM | I step back behinf the wall of force and cast see invisibility, just incase. |
| Raven Dark09-08-03, 10:23 PM | Thargon, you see the flaming beast charge you. Strangely, it has a black lump melted onto its side. Its head slams into your wall of force and comes to an eath-shaking halt. It begins to beat on the invisible wall, confused. |
| Finwe09-08-03, 10:33 PM | ok, I step around the wall, and cast fireball again at the lump on the elephant |
| Aust Evermore09-08-03, 10:36 PM | that's you man |
| Raven Dark09-08-03, 10:37 PM | Thargon, the charred lump falls from the beast and crashes at your feet (more or less). It is the charred body of your already dead foe. The elephant move towards you and tramples you into the earth. Yuo are now prone, broken, bloody, and near death. Miraculously, however, you are alive, and may act. |
| Finwe09-08-03, 10:39 PM | |
| Raven Dark09-08-03, 10:43 PM | You have to fly form underneath it. As you try to get by, your character provokes an attack of opportunity which then proves to be your undoing. The elephant grabs at your ankle with its trunk (a grapple attack) and slams you back into the ground with such force that you feel bones shatter in several areas of your body. The last thing to go through your mind before you die is the elephant's foot. I declare Thargon the winner of this match. Sadly, both contestants have perished quite horribly. |
| Raven Dark09-08-03, 10:46 PM | *Ravendark walks out onto the field.* "Now, it is time for you to live up to our deal, Thargon! A pity that the eternal life you saught was ended here by such a stupid beast." *Starts to take the equipment off both corpses and begins ritualss of creating unlife.* |
| Aust Evermore09-08-03, 10:47 PM | what are you doing |
| Finwe09-08-03, 10:49 PM | RD, you hear a strange ghostly voice: I promised you nothing more and nothing less then the body of my foe, you shall not touch my remains" In a flash of fire, both you and the body are enveloped in a fireball (you can roll damage if you like, but this is mostly for fluff). When the smoke clears, the body is gone. |
| Aust Evermore09-08-03, 10:52 PM | and because my body is in the blast zone my body is destoryed as well |
| Raven Dark09-08-03, 11:00 PM | "Curse you Thargon! You have broken our deal! Your body was to be mine! You have even taken Emeralda's corpse with you, so even that is denied me!" "Do not think we are done yet! Sorry friend, but death will not release you from the things I shall do to you!" *Begins collecting what few magical items survived from the fireball* |
| Finwe09-08-03, 11:05 PM | |
| Raven Dark09-08-03, 11:05 PM | Ravendark's curses into the air are quickly silenced as the rampaging elephant charges him and crushes him into the earth. He would have survived too if it weren't for the contingencied fireball placed upon Thargon's body. Two enter Kedi's Killing Fields, none leave. One enters, and none leave. |
| Finwe09-08-03, 11:06 PM | |
| Aust Evermore09-08-03, 11:07 PM | That's my elephante!!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!! EVEN IN DEATH I AM STILL A FORCE TO BE FEARED!!!!!!! |
| Finwe09-08-03, 11:08 PM | (should have casted fricken D-door) |
| Raven Dark09-08-03, 11:52 PM | Please do not post on here pretending to be DMs. Please remove all of your post in which you pretended to DM, make comments, or had sigs. |
