The Setting:

Deep in the bowels of the vast city. One carved out of a mountain by the goddess of Arcane Knowledge, Lasiera. The city for she named it after her in hopes that it will inspire scholars and wizards alike from just thinking about the majestic city. It is a haven to wizards and any being with a keen interest in arcane Unlike the Dwarven Stronghold Asoori the hallowed halls of this city are magically cut out and unnaturally smooth. Lasiera, The City lies on the eastern coast of its continent Surrounded on three sides with water, hosting an underground port which is little more than a series of intricate caverns at sea level. To the west lies a cursed swamp Gloominveil, filled with quicksand, mysterious cults, demons and devils, with a horde of untold wealth hidden throughout it. Cutting the swamp in two lies a single caravan trail where only the hardiest (or richest) merchants dare to travel, usually ones who have the protection of a score of guards and several accomplished wizards. For it is lined with not only the dangers already mentioned, but many of highwayman patrol the long road.

The Past:

“Baakus,” a mournful voice called out into the fiery depths that is the abyss, “Baackus, Come to me.” A pause while the man waited for the demon to come, growing impatient the man called once more, his voice filling with power though very short lived, “Baackus!”
A gigantic shape began to shimmer in the air, the flames in the Brazier erupting in a blast of radiance. Quintin new he had overstepped his bounds at that moment, this wasn’t the Glabrezu that wretched imp promised him, something far worse. Two great clawed feet set down on the ground shaking the wizard from his thoughts. Screwing up his courage Quintin yelled a single word, “Stop!” The great balor for that is what he truly summoned reached one hand towards him a sadistic smile twisted It’s hideous canine-like maw. His legs nearly buckled under the strained, his magic sorely taxed in holding the demon, “I said STOP, I have summoned you Baackus, from your eternal torment for the sake of a few questi-”
The rest of the sentence was lost on him as the balor’s great whip snaked around his throat. With a final tug and a sharp crack Quintin the conjurer fell to the ground his neck shattered.
The newly freed fiend took a long drawn out breath smelling the swampy air, before stalking off into the underbrush, his body leaving a hundred bush fires in his wake. Thus was the day when Demons first began to stalk the swamp, now known as Gloominviel

The present:
Meandering through the halls in no particular direction, Dandrie spotted an Elf. Regarding this Elf curiously, he paused to watch it. It was running down the hall for the devil’s knows why and wasn’t paying much attention at all to the surroundings. Smiling, he walked in the elf’s direction looking at the floor, but glanced up every so often.

The elf was closer now and could see his purse jingling happily on his hip. Dandrie now was only seconds away and put himself in the unfortunate Elf’s path. As the two collided with deft hands Dandrie grabbed the purse sharply. With some luck the bumbling elf will never know I took it, the thief thought, feeling very pleased with himself. The two stumbled around a bit until both regained solid footing.

Frowning as he caught sight of the blood and paused to see if Dandrie was in all right
.
“I’m sorry,” The elf said in a quiet voice. “I didn’t see you there. Are you quite alright?”

Putting on a slightly stunned face Dandrie replied to this stranger. “I’ll live, though you shouldn’t run like that. It’d be easy for a run-of-the-mill-thug to gut you and loot your body.” In fact I just had a run in with one back there. He caught me off guard but I managed to get a way.” Taking a moment to point in the direction while subtly creeping towards a shadow conveniently positioned under a torch. Not bothering to see if the elf looked or not. Dandrie found a small measure of concentration and tendrils of shadows coursed up his body. In an instant his body was properly concealed.

Merrily jogging down the hall and taking a quick right he proceeded to zigzag in order to throw off any unwanted stalkers. Still hidden in the shadows he reached into his pocket and opened the door to his apartment. Plain and two rooms (and he felt a luxury) he locked the door behind him and pocketed his key. Taking off only his boots he slumped into his bed and went to sleep immediatly.

OoC: Dandrie

This post isn't a bad post as they go by, not at all. Just remember however, that the comma and the punctuation marks are your friends. It is always a good idea to try and read what you've just written out loud for a few times, to hear if it sounds alright or not.

Appart from that, the post isn't bad at all. I like the way you described the wizard's accident with the Balor. You didn't over-do the incident more than neccesary, you said what needed to be said, and the impression it made upon me was a good one.

:)

So, is this going to be a dice-less RP? If so, then I would love to dry and perhaps DM a thing or two. In any case, this doesn't look too bad. Keep up the good work!

*A man knocks on the door*
Dandrie Swift

06-14-05, 09:00 PM
Dandrie slept through the after noon and well into the night. In his sleep he twisted and turned dreaming of different haunting visages of his past. Flashes of his childhood hovering overhead striking down on him every so often. Sweat lathered on his forehead and eventually his twisting and turning became violent thrashing movements. There, memories of bright burning lights, searching for someone, roaming freely, but whom were they searching for? A light brushed his leg a numbing pain, but burning all the same. He clawed for the shadows. There they welcomed him, coolly inviting him into there dark depths, where nothing moves and all is calm, a special kind of tranquility perhaps. Then one of the lights shown brightly, staring him in the eye ruining his peace, burrowing into his mind, rolling over while shielding his face he tried to act as if it were never there.

Whumpf! Slamming head first into floor, Dandrie jumped up wildly, eyes searching frantically around for something, anything. There was nothing, except of course the cool dark shadows. With know recollection of this nights dreams, he stumbled over to his water bowl and splashed some water on his face. Water droplets slid down his face as he looked into the mirror (which was little more than a small square of polished metal he ripped off from a smithy) crashing onto the floor.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

“What? Who could be at the door at this hour? Do I even want to know.”

Silently the dark haired youth walked stalked over to the door as silent as a shadow. With a monster of a yawn, Dandrie yelled through the door, “Who is it, and what do you want? If your one of Torain’s men I have a hundred ways to avoid you, and more than a few to hurt you.” Waiting for a reply, ready to disappear into the shadows at a moment’s notice he risked a quick glance back to where he kept his magic items.

"Open the door."

*knocks on the door again, this time harder"

"I am Orcslayer, and I need to speak with you. If you dont open the door I will break it down!"
Dandrie Swift

“You can try to knock it down, but won't do you any good. I reinforced it with steel,” the rogue bluffed. Dandrie’s mind was racing, who was this guy? Why did he just want to barge into his home? And what was with his name? "Orcslayer" He must be an inlander because there hasn't been a orc seen this side of the Vreatii Mountains..

Still it didn't make any sense besides that occasion with the elf, and Torain’s men, he kept his nose clean more or less. Well there was the caravan raid, but he robbed them blind and noone got hurt. “Just give me a second I’m not dressed,” he lied. Slipping away from the door he opened a large chest and began stuffing himself with scrolls and other magical baubles.

"Open this door!"

*Pulls out his addy great ax*

"You know what? :censored: this!"

*Swings his ax and cuts through the wall instead of the door*

Stuffing the last magical item, concealing it on his person. When a great thud followed by a crack. The crazed man, had smashed though a foot of solid rock! Moving silently he blew out the last candle that was keeping the room lit, then hurried for the door. Tendrils of shadow ran up his body, concealing him, from the above average eye.

Creaking the door open an inch he spied the man named Orcslayer. As soon as he decides to enter I'm taking my leave. It's bad enough he's forcing his way into my home, but to open it to every creten that walks by and basically invite him to steal stuff right from my home, that's a little too far. Maybe a dagger to the hamstring'll teach him. The rogue thought against that, eyeing the gigantic whole in the stone. One swipe of that great axe could cleave him in half!

Waiting to see if the warrior would continue on through, Dandrie felt a little more relaxed as the last of the shadow finished hiding him. At least he had the shadows, people never seemed to discover him often and if they did, his wand of grease to create time to run away.

OOC: it seems unlikely that i carry these items with me, but i'll actually do. I will be making an OOC thread for this to discuss any problems, and to try and attract new players. Those of all alignments are welcome. i will be introducing a plot as well now, and character sheets of characters are welcome, though nothing to indepth. Age, race, class, approximate level, items carried, backstory and what he excels at

Jeth frowned as the idiot knocked down the wall. It would attract too much attention.

Kill Dandrie, and anyone with him. Tie up all the loose ends, ranger.

Taking that guy down would be a piece of cake so long as he didn't need to get close. He never had to get close.

What if he's out of my league?

He stood ready with two arrows drawn. His black leather blended against the black of night, and the starlit sky helped even better since the leather was studded. He felt the mist of shadows from the armor's magic blend him with the night sky, hiding his rooftop position.

He's not as tough as you think. Meerly elusive. Watch the shadows, you'll find him.

Narrowing his eyes, he glanced over the area below for any movement beyond the axman. Thieves weren't among his favored prey, but they were worth the money.

If you can't kill him, don't come back. This isn't advice, it's a threat.

Blast it! I can't take this anymore. I'm making a break for it, if this orcslayer wants me so bad he can't run to catch up.

Slowly cracking the door open, only someone who is paying absolute attention upon it would notice and even then they would wonder if they weren't imagining things. Slipping out in utter silence, he hurried towards the haul.

I'll be damned if that bravo sees me. I swear to Lasiera if he tried to rub to rocks together he would catch his thumb in between them and not notice. Whatever, he's just a bad memory now.

Jeth could tell the slayer was frustrated, and cast a simple spell to detect magical energy. Sure enough, his quarry was on the move.

"Wings."

So saying, his cloak turned into a pair of draconian wings, and he took to the air. He kept his bow ready, scanning the streets below for signs of motion near where he was sensing the magic aura.

Show yourself already.

He began to glide steadily lower, but still surpassed the height of the nearby buildings to avoid notice. He needed to find his mark soon. He was starting to get bored.

06-30-05, 11:01 PM
In the distance Dandrie could hear, stone pounding footsteps.

Great the Brute is smarter than he looks. And sounds he thought with a smile. Time for a little diversionary tactic or two. Pulling a coiled chord from his pocket the hunted man tied a loop around his finger while simultaneously trying to keep up his steady pace without getting lost.

Before long he was done and caught the loop against some odd object jutting from the wall and pulled it taught to the other end of the alleyway. He wasn't yet skilled enough to do it blind, revealing his hands for a moment to complete the feat. Ducking the thin metal wire he continued his course down the alley, cutting a sharp left up a long flight of stairs.

There at the top layed, an opening for a tunnel. One he had used many a time to avoid a confrontation that he didn't desire. If he could reach that tunnel it would branch off into many tunnels effectively creating a maze.
Jeth Kiirnodel

06-30-05, 11:29 PM
A tripwire trap. Maybe I won't have to kill the muscle after all.

Dandrie had ducked into the alley before his pair of arrows could reach him and was at the stairs before he could get another shot off, but it didn't matter. He would need to cut him off, so he flew downward.

"Wings."

His wings turned back into the drak gray cloak from before as he landed, and he looked at the tunnel entrance. He draws his bow, once again with a pair of arrows. He doesn't fire yet, but waits for Dandrie to try to get past him.

"I wouldn't blink if I were you."
Dandrie Swift

07-02-05, 08:37 PM
“I wouldn’t blink if I were you.”

Dandrie did just that. “wha- Who, who are you?” You’re not with that brute are you?” The Rogue’s eyes danced between this new intruder and his bow, with those two vicious looking arrows notched and ready to pierce into him. They were so close together he doubted he would be able to dodge either of them if the ranger decided to let them fly.

“Alright, Just let me get a drink first,” His hand reached down to a pewter vial and brought it to his lips…..
Jeth Kiirnodel

07-02-05, 08:42 PM
Jeth aimed and fired for the hand holding the vial, reloaded, and let off another pair of arrows at the target.

"Don't insult me with the idea of working with that idiot."
Dandrie Swift

07-02-05, 09:43 PM
Shards exploded everywhere, cutting into his hand. His potion of invisibility pouring on the stone making a patch disappear, giving off the illusion of great hunk of stone ripped from the stairwell.

Wide eyed Dandrie leaped to the side pressing his back to the wall. (For the other side had no wall and if he were to jump over that edge, he would have a good long time to contemplate his mistake before meeting an untimely end smashing into the ground with bone shattering force.) Two more arrows arced past his face and arm, One grazing painfully against his cheek.

What had he gotten himself into? Doesn't even matter, all that matters is if he escapes from his hunters as of now. You can worry about that later.

Reaching into his boot he pulled a dagger out and let it fly toward's the strangers abdomen hoping to bend him over in pain. Then ran back to the way he came, wondering what would happen if the trap didn't slow his other pursuer any. He tucked his head in and threw himself at the stairs, tumbling once, twice, and then up again running. Just to at least make it difficult to take aim. Even if it meant to go off the edge with just one false move. Afterwards he zig zagged as best as the dancer of shadows could, flattening himself against the stone work as best as he could. Things weren't looking good though. While he was running all his antagonist had to do was stand there and take aim.

Another pair of eyes watched the scene unfolding from the shadows. This pair of eyes, while not pleased with the violence that had begun to take place, still watched with patience, waiting for the opportune moment to reveal herself.
She seemed at ease, watching here, observing the hunter and the hunted. When the tall, formidable man began to fire his arrows upon Dandrie, the figure stepped from the shadows. Oddly enough for the odd observer, this person concealed in hood and cloak still had not unveiled any weapons.

Unveiling the concealing hood, strawberry-blonde hair fell to the shoulders, free, unhindered. Soft, kind emerald green eyes watched the man, seemingly with an amount of pity. Loose fitting clothes of dark brown and black covered her soft, supple skin, and only the perfect, tanned skin of this new participant revealed them as a Sun Elf.

Walking on silent footfalls towards this man, a kindly, sweet voice rang out, full of melody and pacifism. Her hands were eagle spread, palms open and out, to show to this violent man that she had no weapons drawn. It was a voice full of innocence, love, but a sensible one nonetheless.

"Please, sir, let us stop this violence, this needless bloodshed."

As Anastrianna got closer to the man, her emerald green eyes shone kindly, with an inner warmth. A soft, disarming smile was the only thing that greeted Jeth's eyes, if he turned to look at the approaching figure.

"Let us not waste good life and a good night. It is a time to celebrate life, love, and happiness."

The smiling Sun Elf cocked her head, regarding the figure with the bow drawn, the arrow taut against the string. She seemed to be attempting to read the man's face, his eyes. A soft pity was reflected in the emerald green eyes that greeted Jeth's own. A soft, caressing hand attempted to touch Jeth's shoulder kindly. Her voice was naught but a whisper, a voice that spoke easily of how much she pitied this man who made his life out of anger, hate, and rage, instead out of love, innocence, and peace.

"You have...so much hate, anger, and rage. Just for tonight, let go of those negative emotions; so much more awaits you, friend. A better life awaits you when you can let go of those horrid emotions.
Please, my lord, my friend...let go of this hate. You are better than this..."

Soft, pleading, bright eyes were the only thing that greeted Jeth, when and if he continued to regard this new elf.

Jeth narrowed his eyes at the elven interloper, who was too close to get off a shot. He put away his bow and drew his sabre.

"You speak of innocence. I am a half-elf who was born into a racial war fueled by the fury of gods. Innocence is foreign to me. I fight to live, and that thief is my mark. I have work to do. Wings."

His cloak grew into wings upon his speaking the word once again, and he flew high to get a good view of his foe. Switching weapons again, he fired a full volley of eight arrows at his target. He noticed another agent of the night, but only gave him enough mind to avoid a sudden strike.

"Seems your in a pickle my friend", A voice said from the shadows. Medri appeared a second later, blade resting at his hip. "Need some help?"

"Uh, Yeah." Looking back at the now airborn Half-elf. "Seems I could use some help. But i still have some tricks up my sleeve." Dandrie finished winking at medri

"I have a bit of a problem, it seems I angered someone, or a whole bunch of someones cause....Well, I don't know if you noticed it, but I have some huge axe-wielding idiot after me as well. He should be reaching here anytime soon"

Looking back where the ranger was he noticed except for that odd new stranger, the way was clear. "C'mon." Shadows once again raced up his body, the dancer of shadows disappeared without waiting to see Medri's reaction and hoping he was use to it by now. Nimbly working his way up the stairs Dandrie quickly neared the exit into the tunnel. Though not nearly as quick as he would have liked. Coming close that curious girl, the thief would have liked to question her, but he hadn't the time for that. An invisible smirk found it's way onto his lips. As he passed her he reached out and flicked her nose with a finger and kept on running, wishing dearly he could see her face.

"Wings."

Jeth fell out of melee strike range, and he sent a pair of arrows upwards at the new foe.

"Wings."

Regaining he flight, he brought his descent to stop a little over ten feet in the air. He hovered to the ground and readied a volley for the new rogue.

"If you made me miss my mark, I'm pinning you to the moon."

Medri smiled as the arrows went right threw him. He spun in midair, flinging several shurkens at Jarel.
It seems to be my destiny, to don the face of the killer once more... He said as he landed and pulled down a grim mask. He vanished into the shadows, appearing in front of Dandrie a minute later.

"You speak of innocence. I am a half-elf who was born into a racial war fueled by the fury of gods. Innocence is foreign to me. I fight to live, and that thief is my mark. I have work to do. Wings."

The strange, emerald-eyed elf shook her head sleightly, in disagreement with the half-elf's words. Still smiling, that same shining kindness still echoing in her eyes, her melodic words reached the half-elf's ears before he took fleight.

"Nay, my misguided friend. I speak of not shedding blood where too much has already been shed. I speak of embracing life rather than destroying it. I speak of enjoying the moment and living in it, rather than rushing to your death.

Innocence, love, and peace...these words are foreign to no mortal. They are only foreign because you choose them to be. It is the choice that you have made, just as you have made the choice to be heartless with your actions.

Do you not yearn for the day when bloodshed shall not be needed or desired?"

The next few moments were spent in complete and utter confusion. The bloodthirsty half-elf, denying Ana's pleas of non-violence, rose into the air on magical wings, once again resorting to the hunt that he seemed to so very much prefer. Almost at the same time, she felt a rush of wind and, at the same time, a soft - though invisible - item flicked her nose. After that, it seemed as though the battle were in full force as missiles were exchanged between the two violent duelists.
Sighing softly to herself, the graceful elf bowed her head in apparent sorrow. When she next raised her head, only a moment later, the hood of her cloak fell back, her strawberry blonde hair falling about her shoulders, her emerald green eyes gazing upon the wayward fighter. Her soft, mezzo-alto voice filled the air then, seeming to cause the very atmosphere to shine and shimmer. To the wayward observer, it seemed like everything was right with the world, just for a time.*

"By arrow and blade you spend your life,
Never giving life the moment of time.
Blood you shed and hearts you rend asunder,
Never sharing with a companion life's little blunders.

Stop and smell the roses,
For life is so short.
If you never try you will never gain,
And always will you know only pain.

Innocence and love forever you forsake,
In return caring only for the life you're about to take.
For the future generations, you create an ill example,
Of life's grand mysteries, you haven't taken the time to even sample.

Stop and smell the roses,
For life is so short.
If you never try you will never gain,
And always will you know only pain.

And so, without pausing in the shedding of blood, you can never know,
Just exactly how the roses by the side of the road do smell,
It is for this reason that I plead you this day,
Put down the sword and the arrow just for today.

Stop and smell the roses..."

With that final note, the comely Sun Elf's voice faded away into nothingness. With a hopeful glance, she looked to the two battling people and then Anastrianna, ever the survivor, turned the corner and waited in the shadows to make her next move.

*The song that she sings is, effectively, the Bardic Music ability Fascinate. In game terms, Jeth must make a Will Save; if he fails, he is content to listen to the song for 1 round. Jeth rolled to avoid the shurikens, then slowly flew down at the tunnel entrance.

"Wings. Your song has done nothing more then made noise and entertained late sleepers. Curum Lyha."

With the final sentence, a pale glow showed on Jeth's palm, which he applied to the arrow wound. The minor magic was enough to stitch the wound back together, leaving only a pale scar.

"What I live by are neccesary evils I have been forced to live with by fate. I have been cut off by the world of peace by a life of war, and I cannot change."

So saying, he put his bow away and pulled out his sabre as he reopened the tunnel hatch.

Concealed in the shadows, wrapped in its cool, loving embrace, Anastrianna heard the half-elf's words, renouncing peace, love, innocence, and all of its calm emotions that ran hand-in-hand with it. Her emerald eyes shone sad out of the darkness in response to the apathetic warrior's rebuttal.
Necessary evils? Forced to live it because you cannot change?

"Change is always possible; there is nothing, ever, that you are forced to live by. There is always another choice to make. Since when did the spilling of blood create justice among the myriad of species?"

Still, she waited for the next moment, the next time when she would make her next action in the name of peace.
Jeth Kiirnodel

07-05-05, 02:32 PM
Jeth paused. He did not expect that last sentence.

"It doesn't. It was that delusion that caused my parents to be crucified by the churchs of Zarus and Corellon Larenthian. Those who would favor xenocide are those I favor as prey. It is my duty to kill so others do not need to follow my path."
Khaira

07-05-05, 10:24 PM
Anastrianna seemed to smirk, still remaining within the security of the shadows, as Jeth made that statement, the one that she had heard repeated by so many people before.

So many disputes she had diffused, simply because opponents believed the other needed to die, deserved to be impaled at the end of their spear, or meet some other gruesome end. Everyone believed they were...

"...Gods. The gods adopt a similar mentality that you now possess. There are many gods and goddesses that control many things - beauty, art, crafts, war, battle. They decree who possesses these talents and who does not. They govern the lives of mortals. There is also a god of life and of death, whom decrees who lives and who dies."

She paused, moving out of the shadows, then, as she began to follow Jeth, her melodic voice still trailing behind the half-elf hunter.

"You have adopted a similiar mentality to the gods. Some people, you believe, must die and some, you believe, should be allowed to live. There are those that you hunt, doomed to fall at the end of your sword or impaled by one of your arrows.
Do you believe yourself, then, to be a god, decreeing who lives or who dies a gruesome death by your hand? Are you one of the Great and Holy Ones, ruling over the lives of mortals, ignoring your own mortality in the process?"

Anastrianna smiled at the pure irony of it, the deja vu that she felt so strongly. How many times had she made this speech, or one like it, to two combatants, each so insistent on letting the other's blood fill the ground? How many depraved, heartless individuals had she turned from the blood lust and the glory of battle, solely by these words? How many lives had she been forced to save, to make see the glory of life and the happiness that was peace?

"It is your claim that you are fighting so that future generations do not have to. Tell me, then: what will stop the future generations from following in your footsteps? What will halt them from stalking those they perceive as dishonorable, evil, thieves? What will the children from fighting each other, taking each other's lives, when these so called "evil's" are no longer existent to brutally slay, in the name of justice? How will they know peace and joy if the only example you set is brutality and anger?"

Anastrianna continued to follow Jeth, fully aware that she still had not drawn any weapon and even more fully aware that, with each and every step, she came closer and closer to her target turning on her, or becoming yet another casualty in the crossfire of the battle engagement.
She was bound and determined, insistent that she would stop this mindless fighting...one way or another.

07-05-05, 11:03 PM
Jeth pulled himself into the tunnel, knowing that the nag would continue the pursue the argument. Smacking a sunrod against the rock, he began to look for the rogue's tracks.

"It is the gods who set me on this path of violence. To compare me to them is for me to compare you to a Ravager. Their decrees are based on cold, arbitrary design. My focus is built around a design any mortal could understand. The bloodthristy die, those who fight to defend themselves and others live."

Medri stopped and shook his head. He would regret this no doubt, but he had to. I'll see you outside Dendrie. Medri said as the shadows engulfed him and he slinked away.
He reformed behind Jeth, no weapon drawn. Tell me, great hunter, what will happen when you become what you hunt? You claim to strike the bloodthristy, yet you choose attacking Dendrie over me. I have to tel you, thats an insult to me. And I kill when insulted. Medri said, his eyes flashing under the mask. In one swift motion, he drew his blade, cut at Jeth's head, and kicking at the rangers feet.

Jeth spun as he drew his sabre, intercepting the blade of the attacker as he moved out of the kick's reach.

"I am being rewarded for the termination of Dandrie. Since you've made it clear you are worse than he, I am more than willing to kill you first, though."

So saying, he took a sharp horizontal slash at the rogue, followed a stab, a vertical slash, and a downward diagonal cut.

A voice comes from further into the tunnel,

"If you are willing to kill this man, perhaps you did not expect a fair fight?"

The source of the voice is from a man wearing spectacles and vestments. He looks to be middle aged, but his dark brown hair has not yet started to gray.

"I suggest you think twice before you so much as twitch with fear"

With that said, the man draws a stick out of his belt. The stick is a white-palest yellow walnut, offset by the dark, burnt end, smelling heavily of sulfur.
