Rules: You need not band up, be pals, or fight with one another. You appear taken from your place of origin and plopped into some other world. You can meet people, learn stuff, etc. Starting characters must be believable.

You can not learn new spells, must polymorph into stuff you've had experience with. If you polymorph into something you read it appears a bit unreal and may lack some functions you want. You can not play pun pun cross buff games. See the DM about other cracked rule modifications.

You can, however, be and become anything that is official. Please get approval by the DM. You can not learn new levels or get new spells etc. without it being in game. That is you must find the appropriate trainer or someone that will teach you the move you want, someone with that spell you want to learn, etc.

I tend to reject unbelievable mini-maxed characters. It's pushing it to have 3 classes by level 8. You may be lower than level 8 and keep or use the exp for other things. You have 30,000 exp to start and 27,000 gp.

In fact, real world experiences may actually lead you to be a totally different character than you thought you may be. You may accumulate a lot of experience points before you actually choose to level since it may take a long time to find something worthy of leveling for.

Also not all merchants have what you want so sometimes it serves to pay an overpriced cost for something good or meet a nice artificer. Most players become quite valuable for getting what you actually want.

There is a total, all encompassing plot but you probably won't unravel it until way up in epic levels if you are lucky. If not, you will most likely be dead. If you quit you become a NPC and probably die horribly.

I accept up to the golden number of 120 players at any 1 time. How will I do it? I have a lot of feats and accept DM fill ins.

Warning: Some players may act like this is a arena and can do so if it is all in character and are not evil getting giant rocks dropped on them. However, do not complain if you find it impossible to mini-max or advance fast in the more real world this land provides.

You may also run into things way beyond your level. Fighting in such cases usually means you may not be as bright as your ability scores imply.

You may post as often as you like.

Message me (Constructe) to join up. Send your character sheets. If you use something strange please send me the reference info (Book and page, or clip of the rules) You may be a legal monster, etc. The DM has the right to reject monsters and other things it sees as unfit or pushing the bounds and/or to limit it with a rule.

We will start with 12 people placed on a map that would take 250 days to cross by horseback if it were actually all land. So there are plenty of beasties and civilizations to conquor if you think of yourself as Napoleon or something. Of course, you must discover it first.

((Hey, just introducing myself and making a few comments.

I suggest gettnig a private forum to keep this organized. Anyone know of any? Also, I'm willing to do some of the more mechanical DM work if you need it. Otherwise, just gonna play a character I've been mulling around for some time

I will be playing a female human by the name of Alexis "Alabaster," a young woman with a humble yet terrifying past. She is a cleric/warlock and walks a thin line between good and evil. While Chaotic Good by nature, the source of her deadly powers are always a point of contention with her, whether they are from the less serious Fey or the most dangerous Devils and Demons of her worst nightmares, she does not know.

Alexis has a personality that does not quite meet her appearances. While stubborn like an ox, and built like one too, she is also incredibly playful and is a constant joker. To bring her mind off her turbulent past and her otherworldy powers she often jokes and is very rarely serious (at least on the outside). She is nearly 6 feet tall, and has a muscular build to rival that of a strong male Half-Orc. Her skin is dark tan, and her eyes and hair are dark brown. She keeps her hair tightly kept into a bun, and she wears modest clothes.

I look forward to this taking off! Even if we don't get nearly enough players, enough for a party or at least some interaction would be ideal. Alexis functions alone quite well, but she is willing to work with a team of like-minded people who don't mind her antics and strange power.

 Ok. But how do we get more players if we play on a private forum? Haha... Well umm... it looks like there aren't any takers anyway... This post has been up for a while.:weep:
Gideon_Gideonson

12-12-06, 08:56 PM
Umm...how exactly are you doing this? Is it a normal PbP game? Or is it free-form like most of the others? What if you get fewer players? Please explain...I might be interested.
Constructe

12-13-06, 09:11 PM
Well the story can ramp to however many players and if players take leadership or otherwise organize a society that will generate its own story lines and plots etc. Yes, you don't have to micro every move but you still have to roll and post, use your feats, skills, spells etc. according to rules. If they are just wrong (like say you use fireball in an antimagic field) rather than modifying the story it just won't work the way you expect (like it will not damage anything although it might be a bit shocking to see lol). Anyway... creatures are not dumb and I'm pretty neutral so it is possible for you to die. 3 players is ok to start... I'll ask another if they would like to join. I guess send your characters to me at constructe@yahoo.com. You are allowed to keep secrets from other players.

Let's start at level 10 since we are short handed. :)
Gideon_Gideonson

12-13-06, 09:14 PM
Sure, I'll give it a try...if we get enough other people. I've PMed you two ideas (not using e-mail, since my computer is being lame...).
Constructe

12-15-06, 12:12 AM
Great. Let's get started. Send me your character and I'll plop you down in the right location on my mega map. I was thinking of having you start in random locations but since its just you to start I'll place you together. After you e-mail I'll let you know the situation and you can introduce yourselves.

BTW you get credit for relations, making peace, etc. So you need not attack everything you see all the time unless you want to.
Gideon_Gideonson

12-15-06, 10:54 PM
well, I PMed you the info...and I'd like a PM back with which character works best...
Revlis_Nogard

12-15-06, 11:15 PM
I'll join in too. I've been looking for a while to play one of these guys.

I'm assuming that we're starting with the level ten starting gold, cause that's what I'm going with.
Constructe

12-17-06, 01:29 AM
Ok... everyone make a level 10... Send me your characters. I'll look them over to make sure there are no pun puns haha. I'll post the story soon. Then you can introduce your characters. We may break them into private stories later but to save my sanity posting multiple places we will start on this thread.

You were happily or not so happily doing whatever you were doing when suddently you felt a tug and quicky became dissoriented. Stumbling a step, for the portal is 2 feet above groung you find yourself on a grassy knoll with a multicolored portal approximately 20 feet wide behind you. The grassy knoll is not dissimilar to the one by where JFK got shot, therefore offering good protection from prying eyes.

Before you lays a beatiful meadow with a few white and yellow flowers. You can see the smoke of some village in the distance. If you happen to be hungry a deer stands in the clearing looking at all of you quizzically.

You know you are not anywhere that you are familiar with because there is a large yellow (same as earth) and smaller blue sun above. If you happen to have sharp eyes you see a bee thinking that the portal is a flower run into the portal and bounce off of it.

Basically, Ianis has a 1/20 chance of losing control of Uthag in any given day...at which point, he simply casts Dominate Person again. This does decrease his spells per day, however. This is until I can work up enough spare feats for leadership...hope that works.

So here we go...

IC:

Uthag Bonebreaker stands back up, and looks around, confused. The last thing he remembers is going to sleep in his home town...and now he's completely lost, in what appears to be a new world...

He packs up his bedroll and tent, before noticing the people standing with him...

OOC: So...everyone else...take it from here...

And just so you know...occasionally I will post things in Spoiler text (blacked over). Don't read this. Its for Constructe only. Same with any responses he puts the spoiler (you know how to, right Constructe? If not, tell me).

IC: Enalias falls through the portal with a loud thud, his armor and shield forcing the elf to the ground. He gets up immediately, his blade now covered in a malevolent frost, and stands ready.

"Haluoran?! Where are you?! Is this part of the training?"

Recieving no answer, he begins to survey his new surroundings. He begins to wipe the sweat that was already on his brow from whatever activity he was taking part in before he was transported to this strange place.
Gideon_Gideonson

12-17-06, 09:46 PM
Uthag looks down at the little man next to him. His deep, gravelly tones carry an intelligence and personality completely out of sync with his appearance.

"Who might you be, little elf? Do you possess any knowledge about our current whereabouts?
Revlis_Nogard

12-17-06, 09:53 PM
Enalias cracks his neck and puts away his blade and shield. As he cracks his knuckles, he looks at the giant beside him.

"Damn...I was really hoping you'd know. Oh well. Such as life."

He quickly takes another survey of his surroundings and speaks up again.

"You got a name, man? Or is "surprisingly intelligent ogre" sufficient?"
Gideon_Gideonson

12-17-06, 09:56 PM
"I do have such a moniker. You may refer to me as Uthag Bonebreaker. Cliche, I know, but it gets the point across. I hate for people to be misled.
Revlis_Nogard

12-17-06, 09:58 PM
Enalias sits down and uncorks a bottle of spiderblood and takes a long drink. His body shudders and his face makes a twisted grimace.

"Wooo! Always goes down smooth!

Anyway, my name's Enalias Galanodel....it doesn't mislead, but it doesn't answer much, I suppose."
Gideon_Gideonson

12-17-06, 10:01 PM
"Enalias Galanodel, I am pleased to make your accquaintance. One does not often meet strangers so polite, or open. Since you to are lost, mayhap we might press on together? If ever you have need of a strong blade at your side, I can provide."
Revlis_Nogard

12-17-06, 10:04 PM
"Uthag, I'd be an idiot if I said no. But don't you get confused; I'm a pretty handy swordsman myself.

He looks down at his bottle and lifts it up to the giant.

"You want some? It's Drow spiderblood. It's a little...well, poisonous if you're not used to drinking it. But it's alcohol, and sometimes, that's all that matters."
Gideon_Gideonson

12-17-06, 10:07 PM
Uthag takes the offered bottle in his mighty hand and takes a long pull.

"I have no qualms against strong drink, or toxins. And I suspected your ability from the first. The speed at which you came to your guard after arriving proved that. not many could match that."
Revlis_Nogard

12-17-06, 10:11 PM
"Aww, stop, you're gonna make me blush, man."

Enalias laughs for a moment, pauses, and picks up with a louder laugh.

"Oh man! I just remembered neither of us have any clue where we are! I don't know whether it'd be better to stay here or get away from this place. Whaddya think?"
Gideon_Gideonson

12-17-06, 10:14 PM
Uthag stands still for a moment, his eyes distant and out of focus. Finally, he shakes it off and responds.

"That depends...standing here will do nothing to advance our current state of affairs, while moving would remove us from this possible exit portal, and require communication. I must admit that it is likely that neither of us speak the language of this area. The fact that WE can communicate normally suprises me, actually. Where do you come from?"
Revlis_Nogard

12-17-06, 10:18 PM
Enalias scratches his head, puzzled, and answers.

"Actually, that's a good point...

Anyway, I come from a small forest kingdom called Xiloscient, but I've been living with my master on the World's Spine Mountain range for the past 24 years or so.

What's your story?"
Gideon_Gideonson

12-17-06, 10:24 PM
Uthag looks thoughtful for a moment, and then his eyes go blank again briefly, as if he were staring at something in the distance. His response is hesitant, and strained, as if he wasn't quite being truthful...but you're not sure. (Roll Sense Motive...he may be lying, he may not be.)

"Honestly, I don't remember much of my life. I had a run in with a archmage recently...a little mix-up with my orders in the war...and he hit me with some spell, I have no idea as to what. I don't recall much before the war now. But since then I've been wandering as a mercenary, selling my blade to whoever has enough to pay me.
Revlis_Nogard

12-17-06, 10:28 PM
OOC: A 28 (13 roll +15 mod) on that Sense Motive.

BIC: We had a war not too many years before I was born back where I come from. It's where my master...well, pretty muched kicked a bunch of goblin and hobogoblin ass, became a hero, and took on a student 50 years later. Me. My master was a mercenary too, actually, which I guess would make me one if I'm gonna continue tradition...
Gideon_Gideonson

12-17-06, 10:32 PM
You get the idea that Uthag may be shading the truth somewhat...

"Probably not the same war then. But setting out as sellswords might not be a bad idea. Our finances would improve greatly, and we might begin to ingrain ourselves into this world. And I think that to survive, we need to do that.
Revlis_Nogard

12-17-06, 10:34 PM
"Hmm...well, I can't say it's a bad idea. If anything, it'll give me the chance to discharge some of this excess energy finally. Okay, lead on, Uthag!"
Gideon_Gideonson

12-17-06, 10:42 PM
"Good. Let's go."

So saying, Uthag packs up the rest of his belongings, straps them onto his back along with his axe, and walks down the hill for the town.
Revlis_Nogard

12-17-06, 10:43 PM
Enalias waits for Uthag to take a few steps forward before following suit towards the town.

As you stroll down towards the village you notice how peaceful and calm everything seems. there are fields of wheat and piles of hay. A cow moos at you as you pass. And as you go you see little silk clothed ratlike figures blink at you with their red brown or blue eyes before making chittering sounds that seem like speaking and then scurry off quickly on all fours. Some are even the size of humans.

A few hide and seem to be following you. If you look directly at them they also scamper off. One small one drops a small cookie on what looks to be a semi-cobbled road leading directly into the village and then runs back and hides in the brush to see if you pick it up and/or eat it. You can tell its hiding in the brush because its pink ears are sticking up and twitching above the leaves.

You still can't understand them but one says what sounds like "Ita m'ooha'sst'er'tah" in a funny ratlike accent.

"m'ooha'sst'er'tah Lei'keet Cooo-keth-eee?", the creature asks as it drops another cookie on the ground. "Spe'ech Coo'um'um uursst met'bett'eze eeed'doteh?"

A few other ones talk to it and it looks like some are giggling. A increasing crowd of them have gathered to stare at you. You can now tell only about a tenth of the ones you see are in silk clothes. The others flit about running hiding and staring. You see a couple with pichforks and other possible makeshift weapons in hand although they are always hard to detect and scampering into hiding places.:pile:

Would joining still be an option? If so I want to play a Lawful Neutral Fighter, or a Cleric, depending on the deities you're using. Also, what are the rules for stat and hp generation?
Constructe

12-24-06, 10:15 PM
You are welcome to pop through the portal still. Please make your character level 10. You can mini max to a degree that is believable using standard gold for level 10. Send me your char on the post or to my mail. Since you got sucked through a portal you can come from just about anywhere so any deity is ok as long as it's not evil cause the site tends to drop big heavy stones on evil looking heads unless you're a NPC haha.

You see some clothed and not so clothed ratlike people below gathering around a small band of adventures a ways down the grassy knoll you appear on. Some seem to be speaking to them in a chittering ratlike voice. (Unfortunately you were not around to get tongues).

The others hear random questions like, "Are you monsters? My what weird ears you have. Did you come to help us? Do you like cookies? Can I see your weapon? Stay away from them they are wild animals. etc." Most of the ones gathering around are kids not obeying their parents demands to stay away from scary creatures like yourself.

Alexander's cat starts to run over to the orge and trys to jump onto him.

"Sam come back here, you dont know who that is." Alexander trys to catch up to the cat before she gets to the orge. As he is about to get her he trips over his robes and falls to the ground. "Blast it!" Getting up and dusting himself off he glares at the cat as he walks over to the adventures. Under his breath you can hear, "She always dose this, even when master went dragon hunting. And I still has that scar."

Enalias turns to see the newcomer run down the hill, temporarily distracted from the rat creatures.

"Well I'll be! It looks like another elf! Who might you be, sir?"

He looks down at the cat and picks her up and begins to pet her.

"Awww....who're you? Aren't you just the cutest thing on four legs? Yes you are! Yes you are!"

OOC: This is for those who understand Elven only (And the DM)!
"Is this yours? I'm guessing it is, since I don't think that these rat folk would keep cats as pets. Not many would bring a cat along with them on a quest of any sort...unless you're an arcanist of some kind, perhaps."

Alexander bows before Enalias and Halouran and Uthag.

"Yes I am a wizard, and she is my familier. She won't stay even if I tell her to. Though I though I was only going to be delivering a message for my master so I didn't expect to be on a quest"

OOC: Halouran is Enalias' master. He isn't in this plane of reality.

"Carth....can't say I've ever heard of it...and there certainly aren't any 'Mages Guilds' where I come from. Looks like we have someone from yet another realm...this is getting hard to keep track of. Anyway, as far as where we are, neither of us know.

Anyway, the name's Enalias Galanodel. The big guy here is Uthag Bonesnapper or Neckbreaker...sorry, I'm not so great with names. Anyway, pleased to meetcha, Alex."

Enalias continues petting the cat until something in his head clicks.

"Hey! If you're an arcanist, you could cast tongues on us so we can understand these rat guys!"

"A wizard, hmm? And another of the elven race...I begin to feel like an outsider...or would, of course, except that I am perfectly fluent in elven. When one is a mercenary, one learns to pick up on these things. But by no means cease your conversation on my account."

"And Enalias...what is that supposed to accomplish? Pray enlighten us non-arcanists as to the meaning of that gesture."

 Well for that matter, those with detect magic can detect there are magical auras where there seems to be nobody. And some of these rat people have magical doodads on their bodies . Jewelry, weapons, etc.

As for your cat, these ratlike people wiggle their whiskers and look at it funny. But they are looking at you guys equally funny. Perhaps they have not seen these things before. I wonder if your cat thinks they are food...

Some get bored gawking at you and walk off. You notice they all seem to move abnormally fast (40 ft which is 33% faster than average people). Perhaps they are very hard workers and like to speed walk everywhere.

You also notice some of the buildings are a bit odd. They seem to be mostly round and triangular constructions with entrances that look like giant tubes (how avant guarde back then). And occasionally you find some built like houses with castle features. Most of the clothed rat looking people seem to come from them. The whole village seems to be comprised of this race.

A rat person approaces you down the road. He seems not to be hiding like all the rest and purposely speaks common although with a gruff chittering accent. he seems to be talking to himself although clearly wanting you to hear. "Ah more portal scum. I suppose you are looking for free food like the rest in exchange for shiny metal fake cheese?" He says snobbishly, "Oh the primitive folk are always soo hungry. I suppose they haven't discovered farming yet. Who only knows why our leader is interested in your type. He must be insane. Oh the loathesome the travesty of it all. Our virgin ground being trampled undertoe by barbararous primitive pointy ears and their like. Will the portal ever go away. We do all the work and they get cookies from the kids for free. I wish we still had a king rather than our titular shaman."

As he rambles he appears to be taking no heed of you and intends to just walk straight past you without noticing. The only problem is he is in the center of the road and apparently expects you to move out of the way. Also he is moving quite fast as well 40 feet per round meaning he will reach you in 1 round. Will you yield?

He is not clothed aside from a silk cape and two adamantine rapiers strapped to his side. The hilt of the rapiers have a big crystal on the hilt which eminates some magic but makes it seems more for looks than usefulness.

"I don't know about my companions, but I'm not a barbararous primitive pointy ears, and I would suggest that you not call me that again."

Violet, indigo, and yellow balls forms and alex dosnt seems to be bother with the extra task of keeping them flying, he is juggleing them all with ease.

Sam comes back and watchs alex juggling, not finding any others cats around.

The snobbish ratperson stops. "My my my, you are upsetting some guards. There are just around to insure the people's safety you know. Like mine for instance. Wow, I like your colored globes. May I try juggling them? In fact, you may be better than the regular fare after all. For one thing, it appears that you don't pick up food on the ground like the greenish orc thing that passed through before. Why he got food from our leader beats me. I heard he got eaten by the wild things..."

"Guards...", he snaps his finger and 3 more guards become visible. " Please lead them to the ummm our leader." He then speaks in the wierd rat language. The guards, each bearing large adamantine spears with some magic aura on them, clears away the rabble to a distance and off the road and gets infront of you as an escort into the city. Two more appear behind you.

"I am afraid they don't speak your language and I'm much too busy to be a lowly interpreter. But many third whiskers speak an amazing variety of bizzare languages and our leader... well he knows everything (he rolls his eyes) so convesing with him will be no problem."

Funny you should ask. Well umm we all seem to be outlanders. Our ancestors destroyed some naga and made it into this portal to escape the shadowlands. We consider this place a paradise but out leaders worry its a trap. As for weird beings they have popped in here and there. Most are out and about either abandoning us or helping out our leader. Some I hear get mauled or eaten so we are scared to go too far past the lands we have tamed unless you are smart and sneak around. I must be fair and say our leader does well making us safe in our township. But so did our tribe.

Oh we used to use some wierd currency but abandoned it since getting here. We trade for food. Everyone needs food. We like food. We are the richest in food. If you have cheese I'll trade you 10 pounds of rice for it or 1 pound of wheat. We value grain over rice. Rice is so common. The king hordes wheat saying we must store for the days of darkness. There hasn't even been one day here that we could call winter since our fathers died. Hmmm those were the dark days. Who says they will return.

You can buy stuff from anyone. If you have food they will solicit you directly haha. Why have stores. We deliver directly to you. We are Nezumi. We are fast and take advantage of it. So we like speedy delivery.

Well hmmm you know I'm not a tour guide. Actually I like your equipment. Could I have some magic item as a token of your friendship. We do trade in magic. Yup magic items are very useful. I'll give you a barrel of rice for a ring of fireballs. It makes it easy to kill cockroaches. I hate pests.
Gaelro_Nailo

12-30-06, 11:36 PM
"I left most of my magic items at home." Alex digs into one of his belt pockets, pulling out a small vial. "But I do have a potion of healing." He hands the potion to the nezumi. "And thanks for telling me about this place. Do I call you nezumi?

Thanks for your potion though. If you need it to cure yourself of your horrid disease I would not wish to take it from you though.s where m

While you have been talking you are led to a village with strange geometrical buildings with tubelike entrances. There are a few human looking building resembling small house castles or blue topped asian homes. This is where most of the clothed nezumi seem to be coming in and out of. In the center you see a large castle which would seem like the ruler's residence. It seems out of place because such a few dwelling sized village seem completely insufficent to support such a large structure in bulding or in economic feasability (if you happen to take knowledge, governmental finances).
Gaelro_Nailo

01-01-07, 09:12 PM
Alex laughs loudly, "No my small friend, my kind are not covered in fur like yours. And if I needed something it wouldn't be a very smart idea to give it away, now would it?"

He then looks over to the others, "I think our gold coins will not help us here, unless we find more of these outsiders to trade with. And I didnt bring alot of my magical item with me."

He looks backs to Tehthchteh, "Mind if I just call you Tehth? And would there be a place where I could buy or trade for spell components?"
Constructe

01-03-07, 04:42 AM
Why sure. Tehthchteh snaps his funger and some Nezumi runs up and grovels before him. These folk want to trade. The nezumi wrinkles its whiskers, "More yellow garbage metal?"

"No my good friend, I hope not. Perhaps they can make some item or something."

"What do you want and what can you offer oh sickly folk hairless ones?", the grovelling Nezumi asks.

I do not know what my friends can make or have to trade, but i can create magical scrolls and magical weapons and armor, given time and what I need. But i dont have anything with me that will help create stuff. I would also like a place to stay if we are going to stay in this village. I can also cast a few spells that can help everday living. Ohh and I am also a novice healer, though I dont cast healing spells I know how to set bones, and treat the sick. Stuff like that."

01-03-07, 09:24 PM

I'll pay you extra if I really like the scroll. And I'll throw in some general components garbage too. My kid's use it to scare neighbors, they can make smelly smoke, start campfires, and play marbles with wierd stones. They like the jade, coal ball, and pearl the most. As for Armor, we just use Adamantine. I think it's good enough, but if you want an extra cart of wheat you can always sell your talents for food."

"You can stay with the leader. He has the biggest house here and he will probably ask you to do ridiculously dumb things that will get you killed sooner or later" He says nonchalantly. "Also can't you cast a spell to hide your naked flesh. It looks so repulsive. You can give them to Tehthchteh. He will be our go between. Frankly, I am scared of you."
Gaelro_Nailo

Alex then pulls his robe's hood over his head, casting a shadow over his face and then puts on some purple gloves so there isn't any trace of his skin shown. "Dose this help little one?"

DM: Will cost me 3125 gp and 125 exp. I think i dont have my books with me right now. I dont have the money, but because we dont use gp here how will that work? Ohh and it will take 4 days to make the scrolls

It is hard to get magic sometimes. Asides from our tribe's magic. Is our business concluded. I'll await your scrolls if you should survive the wilds which you all seem to like to adventure into. how are you doing character creation
Constructe

02-02-07, 12:46 AM
You create a level 10 character. You can send me the character to review first if it is questionable. Otherwise just post it. I accept most all 3.5 Characters as long as they have no ridiculous circular mini maxes like I buff my pet and my pet buffs me 1,000 times or Pun Pun Characters. Characters should be believable with a "character" persona.

Gimble Redfern, but me friends be calling me Gimble. He takes the hand shaking it enthusiastically. Something on the table catches his attention, and he licks his lips Ah, I see strawberries. Gimble addresses the leader. So what sort of job is it that you be offering? What are the risks and what are the rewards? The tenor of his voice suddenly changed with those questions. Then just as suddenly the effect is gone as if it had never happened.

He rolls 15+ 12 sleight of hand. To place the note on the table where Alex can find it. The note reads.
I will scout ahead. You just signal the direction you want to go with a gesture. If you notice something strange in the shadows it is probably my companion. If I spot some danger ahead I will signal you by leaving something shiny in your path or tossing a small stone in your direction. Nod if you understand.

Gimble keeps ahead of Alex staying hidden in the shadows and moving silently. He is keeping his eyes open for danger.Do I need to make multiple spot checks or is one sufficient?
Constructe

02-10-07, 10:35 AM
One spot check is ok until it is used up. This is what you see.

You find that outside the village is filled with giant leafy plants and very large grass that are as high as corn stalks. There are some half beaten tracks and open areas or large rocks you can occasionally see from. What disquiets you is that you see some huge armored lizard like creatures ambling about. They seem to travel in pairs.

Roll 8 + Spot Skill +13=21 To spot check. Gimble does a sense motive on the large lizards. Roll 15 +1 from wisdom=16 to figure out if they are hostile or dangerous. He will also do a listen check. Roll 16 + 7 Listen skill= 23

Regardless of what he determines about the lizards he will attempt to double back and signal Alex in the manner he described earlier to let him know something is ahead.
Constructe

02-11-07, 08:31 AM
They are territorial and will attack anything they see that is faintly hostile but do not seem to be evil in nature.

They are also larger than anything you have ever seen. Undoubtedly they could swallop you with one gulp by accident. You do not see how you can cross without the troupe catching at least one group's attention or crossing the path of them. Encountering them might not be if but more akin to when unless sonething changes.
technomagi

02-11-07, 12:32 PM
based on that imformation Gimble will double back and catch Alex rather than simply signalling him. He will go ahead and come out of hiding in a safe location and relay this information to him.

Gimble steps out the shadows in front of Alex with his finger to his lips to signify the need for silence. He takes a stick and writes in the dirt with it waving Alex over to read what he has written. Mentally he commands his shadow companion to watch for approaching danger and to warn him if anything approaches.

Trail ahead. Giant lizards. Look dangerous. No way around.

They do not notice you. The party moves silently behind the first group of animals and passes them without incident. Then proceeds forwards and approaces another set of beasts.

Shadows hide quite well, however, that isn't the biggest concern about them. Is your shadow your cohort/? If it is summoned or you created it, shadows have a malovelent will of their own and will often do things within your instructions that may cause disasterous effects if they can (ergo not hiding, attacking if not told to, etc.)

The other animal is suprised to see another threat to its side (the cow) and whacks at it with its tremendous tail (27 to hit dealing 20 damage to the cow (if the cow is not large it must make a fort save or be hurled 30 feet back). The creature listens for other threats (Gimble please do a move silent check).
technomagi

02-16-07, 05:21 PM
ooc: the cow is only an illusion made out of the shadows. It works just like the spell silent image. The illusion can be moved by the will of the caster. However, it makes no sound, has no smell or texture. You will have to determine how that effects things. Anything that interacts with it can make a will save to disbelieve it. There is nothing in the spell description about the illusion having hp.
Move silent check roll 12+15 from skill=27
Shadow's move silent is automatic due to being incorporeal.

As the tail sweep hits the illusionary cow Gimble will have it fly off and roll on the ground to similate how it would react if it were a real cow. He will then make it run away. I think that is a free action since all he has to do is will it. Its already formed. Meanwhile he will move in on the one that attacked Alex striking at its soft underbelly with his rapier.

Nimble sees that Alex is not moving. He isn't very strong so he does not think that he could carry the man. He is hurt pretty bad himself. He doesn't know if there is anything he can do. He watches the beasts from the shadows near the path out of the clearing.

The other giant lizard awakens and seeing its mate amble off also waving its tail and looking a bit frightened. "Well, I am not any cleric but I think he's dead. We can take him back to my father. He has a doc who has raised quite a few from the dead. But he extracts some sort of price from them, so most don't savor the idea of falling dead."

Is this death? Alex feels a comingling of lights that don't have a specific color. He feels warmth and then no sensation, no feeling. He hears mumbling voices but can't identify anything. So strange. Time passes but he seems not to notice or care.

Nimble seeing the beasts amble off comes out of the shadows. He looks to the Nezumi. I could never carry him by myself but the two of us may be able to manage it. My companion can scout for us and warn us if anything lies ahead. I could maybe scout and create distractions to help us avoid them. What say you?

If the Nezumi agrees then Gimble will have his shadow companion fly and scout from the air so that they can carry Alex. If neccessary it can try to create a distraction to lead other lizards away. It can fly and stay out of reach and it is almost as good at hiding as Gimble.

That sounds good. You don't have a bag of holding? I think if I squished him I could fit him in mine. Well I hope he fits in the opening or you may have to disjoint him to squeeze him in. My my I hope it won't harm him if we can bring him back. I don't know much about dead rituals.

Gimble rubs his chin thoughtfully. Aye, I got a bag of holding but I don't know if he would fit in it or not. Does your priest require the whole body or just part of one? Perhaps we could just bring his head and all his belongings. At any rate we can try squeezing him in here and if that don't work then we could just bring his head.

The young nezumi stuffs the corpse into the bag damaging it as little as possible. His father seems suprised to see him so soon.

"Hmmm I soppose those creatures are a bit nasty. They multiply like cattle. I suggest you be more cautious next time. I must warn you, ressurection does not work to well in this land for some reason. At best it works once and I have only known a few people who have done it successfully twice."

The leader escorts you to a dark chamber full of candles and strange smells.

As Gimble walks toward the temple he tells the young Nezumi a heroic tale of how he and and a handful of companions once stopped a huge orc invasion by utilizing a combination of courage, wits and trickery. By executing their ingenious plan they had actually managed to turn the two largest orc chieftains against one another. In their lust for battle the orcs had fought each other rather than destroying the human city they intended to invade. To this day those two tribes war with one another Gimble laughed. They have never figured out the real reason their feud started. Mean while the city of Kaldern has had a long period of peace and prosperity. The warring tribes of orcs have been at one anothers throats so much that they leave them alone.
Constructe

04-03-07, 12:41 PM
That is smart. My father would praise your ingenuity, however, orcs must be a dumb race. Such a tactic could be rooted out by my father and others easily. For he can tell a lie through deep understanding of your nature. That is why he is so careful, for many would wish to be leader and all of them know my father is well aware of their ambition. This is one secret you must keep. For it is why my father wishes me to study abroad. To learn faster than than staying in camp and to put distance from those who think they can assure their family dominance by killing off competitors children. It is a known practice but one no one directly acknowledges. For to commit or attempt to commit such acts requires the death of the plotter and those who assisted along with two of their closest family members innocent or not. Accusations of such are a great big deal.

By the way, lets leave tomorrow if its ok with you?
technomagi

04-04-07, 06:18 PM
Gimble laughs. No one ever accused orcs of being very bright. Although I have met a few who are very canny. They usually end up as their leaders. They are very tough and strong though so it is stupid to underestimate them. Fortunately they really don't care who they fight just so they are fighting. That is a little knowledge about the nature of orcs you should remember in case you should ever meet some. They are also only courageous when they believe they are the strongest. Most of the war bands I have seen occur when one very strong leader rises up. The rest only follow him out of fear. And when he dies the arrangement falls apart and they resort to fighting one another. Well let us see how Alex fares then we can make plans from that point on.

He wasn't sure where he was. that wasnt good never was it good when he kne little of his surroundings, he glanced about assessing the landscape, an open plain had little in the way of defensive structures so they would have to be built. what is this place? why am i here? he thought he pulled his red trimmed white cloak up about his dark colored metal armor. he noticed his painted mare 30 paces from his location, grazing contentedly, and smiled at least i still have stacy he smiled thinking about the beautiful horse his father in law had given him. she wasnt much as far as a war horse went but she could run like the wind. throwing his sheild over his back he walked over and took her reins and began leading her toward the largest hill he could find.
in the distance he saw a village so he climbed into his saddle and nudged his horse toward the village.

She took off like a shot galloping through the plains his white cloak flowing in the wind and his silver holy symbol gleamed in the sun, within no time they were but a short distance from the village so he pulled her back to a slow trot. Rats?... the village is populated by rats? he had heard many things of these creatures and none were good. he brought his sheild down and strapped it to his arm the image of a red horses head dominated his sheild. he rested his hand on his sword pondering how to continue.

"If he does not wish to join my trusty healer can accompany you, although being quite old he doesn't see too well and can't run. He uses his staff as a crutch. I am sure he could perform his medical duties but he may hold you up a bit."

Alex Gimble says with a smile. I am glad to see you. I thought you were a goner. We should go find this new guy I think. I sure hope he is good with a sword or an ax or that he carries weapons of mass destruction or that he can at least shoot a bow. there was movement in the village stacy stamped feeling his tenseness. he pulled his helm out from his saddlebags and snapped the visor down. if this turned ugly he didnt want to be caught with his pants down. he drew out his sword and balanced it across his saddle. silently he said a prayer to the lady of strategy asking her not to let him falter on his chosen path.
he took the reins in his left hand and guided his sheilded side about so that there would be more steel between him and any coming attacks as well as to conceal his enchanted sword from its out and ready position. he warily watched gathering rats. stacy would bolt if combat ensued and he wouldnt be able to control the frightened beast. he would have to charge her away if any of the ratkin drew steal on him. if that made him look a coward so be it. better a coward than a dead fool, but at least he'd get in one good lick

Once Gimble gets to you he will watch your actions and try to figure out what your intentions are. He doesn't know much about religion so holy symbol you carry doesn't mean much to him other than telling him that you may be a cleric of some kind. If you can make a 21 spot then you can spot his companion.

ooc: I'm sure Gimble can figure out that you're a cleric but he is scouting you out to figure out your intentions. If you are hiding your sword and hiding the fact that you are casting spells and he can see this because he is watching for it then it gives him information. For instance if he knows that you just cast a spell but there are no ill effects then he might ascertain that you are either putting up protective magics or attempting to gather information. knowing that you have your sword readied but are keeping it concealed says that you are either cautious and prepared for the worse or that you are prepared to make an assassination attempt. Given certain information then he can make judgements pertaining to your character.

The shadow's hide was a 21 so your 18 didn't spot him.
Constructe

04-11-07, 09:57 PM
Game Mechanics: The fact you cast behind shields etc. makes no difference regarding their ability to spot such things unless there is a specified modifier to the save. Maybe they see your shoulder muscles move or your fumble or look distracted, etc. Otherwise every spellcaster would make a fake shield just to never be detected casting lol.

BTW you detect no evil auras. And if you check you will find a smattering of good auras.

Cohort

Background: Long ago as a young boy Taggart had his city saved by a group of adventurers. He decided that he would try to keep his city safe when he became older so he trained as a fighter and for some time did much to keep his city safe. He soon learned that he had a nack for training animals and creatures which could be useful in different ways. During quiet times Taggart would train citizens to fight or train his pets. During times when the city was threatened he would work to defeat the threats. Eventually his town no longer needed him. He had done his job well enough that the city had one of the best standing armies around to defend it augmented by well trained animals and creatures to help them in various ways. He felt that he had completed this life goal, but there was something else that he wanted to do. He wanted to travel with the heroes that had set him on this path and help them save other towns. His new quest eventually led him to Gimble.

Bobo has been trained to come when she is called, fetch things, Untie knots and spy by Taggart. Unfortunately Gimble has been a bad influence on her and taught her how to pick pockets. She is harmless but she does like to try and get at food items and shiny things.

Trained Guardian creature: Krenshar

Description: The krenshar is a strange, catlike carnivore with extremely flexible skin.
A typical individual measures 4 or 5 feet in length with a long, narrow head. Males and females hunt together in packs, preferring herd animals for food but attacking humanoids when game becomes scarce. Krenshars are very social among their own kind, and occasional attempts to domesticate cubs have produced fierce and loyal companions. They otherwise behave much like mundane great cats. A lair contains cubs numbering half the adult total.
Merlin is trained to guard, stay, attack and come when he is called. His ability to scare is handy against would be thieves and he is even house broken.

Combat: Krenshars use solitary scouts to drive prey into the waiting clutches of the pack. The scout appears from hiding, uses its scare ability, then chases the fleeing target to join the attack.

Special Attacks: Scare (Ex or Su): As a standard action, a krenshar can pull the skin back from its head, revealing the musculature and bony structures of its skull. This alone is usually sufficient to scare away foes (treat as a Bluff check with a +3 bonus).
Combining this scare ability with a loud screech produces an unsettling effect that works like scare cast by a 3rd-level sorcerer (save DC 12). If the save is successful, that opponent cannot be affected again by that krenshar's scare ability for one day. The shriek does not affect other krenshars.

"You are right." the young Nezumi Wizard says. "Only I understand you. Also we have no idea what lands you speak of. My father said that elementals are creatures of nature unlike demons that are perversions of spirit. Anyway, after the mild time comes a cycle of making and unmaking in which this world gets altered by elemental forces. This time is much more dangerous than the mild time we use for growing and harvesting. Then there is another mild time followed by a time of chaos. This is the most dangerous time I think where unnatural beings tend to appear. After that there is the respite and then the time of the dead. That is when demons come out usually but not often. It is a time of undead. Although there are not too many given that this land is new. I suppose most of them come from the worlds you speak. Old, corrupted lands. We Nezumi have no love for the barbarous human worlds that would drive us out just because we are closer to nature and more physically and spiritually talented. That's why my father insists we learn human ways, magic and science and the like. The other elders hate him for that but he is the not just the leader but is also the tribe's shaman making him the head spiritualist so they can't say much."

Taggart kneels on the ground next to the krenshar, which seems a little excited. He pats the cat like creature gently on the head and scratches its ear making it purr. A monkey climbs onto Taggert's shoulder and routes through his back pack coming out with a snack. It perches there munching on a piece of dried fruit.
You got a scent again, Merlin? Taggert says to the krenshar.
It looks up at him its tail flicking back and forth.
It has been months sense we've seen any sign of him.
He reaches back and scratches the monkey behind the ear. Then he puts his fingers in his mouth and gives an odd combination of whistles. Shortly a war horse trots up. Taggart climbs into the saddle.

Besides that you will never appease these people by giving them what they want or talking all pretty to them. The nezumi looks to the left where there are some large snakes gorging on zebra looking things (you see at least 3). Ahead there are some very big bears fishing in a stream (5), and to the right there area pack of wolves prowling around (around 8 or so). All are large and threatening looking. A few birds fly overhead.

Taggart didn't laugh even though he found it all a little amusing. The dwarf wasn't to bright and he smelled like the trash heap behind a seaport tavern, but he could fight. For some reason Merlin found him amusing and the two would play whenever they camped. Taggart suspected the Kreshar was the smarter of the two although he could not speak. He was sure the monkey was smarter. It found it amusing to steal things from the dwarf and then tease him with it. It was a wonder the dwarf hadn't snapped and killed the little pest and he had found himself in the uncomfortable position of playing referee.

ooc in regard to strogan and taggart. it is not a good idea to mess with a brain damaged dwarf that doesnt know when to stop. the only thing he carries on him that the monkey could take is his "kitty bag" which typically has something dead in it and usually ends up in the cauldron he carries on his back or his large soup ladle which smells just as bad as he does and has stuff caked on it from whatecer he was cooking last. (by the way the monkey is also referred to as beard kitty) as for the krenshar strogan would probably kill it with his "love" or hurt it in such a manner that it would never play with him again completely unintentionally (imagine a three year old with a kitten)

"Elf Wizard, stand ready and accept this spell. it will not harm you but offer you protection." Andro begins to pray to his goddess never taking his eyes off the beasts circling. when he finishes he reaches back and and slaps alex on the shoulder imbuing him with the spell.

OOC before you decide to resist or not you would feel the spell is harmless

FOR THE DM

I'm casting shield other i just dont want to embolden him

Gimble spies upon a couple nearest to him. As he moves undetectedly he is attacked (Scent). These are wolves with strong sinew muscles and sharp fangs. They are larger than any you have seen before and well honed for taking out prey fast. They attack together landing upon you at exactly the same time.

Their viselike jaws snap at your neck ans shoulders... (42 and 36 to hit dealing 19 and 17 damage respectively. If they hit you must avoid a trip attack Str+7).

The other wolves seem to still be looking for a a good opportunity to attack. They seem to be very used to such ambushes.

the nearest one so long as it is not within attack of opp range i am going to smite with my flame strike spell in an attempt to frighten the others away. (i imagine a pillar of flame falling from the heavens to kill or maim one of there buddies might be a little intimidating)

Andro roars loudly and proclaims "the wages of your transgression is death and death shall you recieve! By the power of the Red Knight Icondemn you to the fires of hell!" with a flourish he releases his flame strike spell.

42 points of damage reflex dc 20 for half

when i finish the spell i'm going to cast bless (unless something happens between now and then to make me change my mind)

Strogan sees the pillar of flame and is momentarily awe inspired. "oooooooooooooooooo shiny burn burn. shiny burn burn good. Strogan go go" strogan pushes as much speed as he can out of his stubby legs because "shiny burn burn" usually implies battle and that is one of strogans favorite verbs (though he doesnt know the word)

ooc:You must be using a house rule here. I have read what Scent does and all it says is +4 to wilderness lore checks for tracking. It does not say that the creature with scent suddenly knows blind fighting. Nor do I see where scent allows the creature to know what sqare Gimble would be in. They would have to make a spot check to overcome my hide.

ooc just had to add my two cents

I'm not sure if i'm thinking the right game or not (ive played and ran five different systems) but if wolves have tracking scent doesnt that allow them a limited blind sense? from a biological standpoint canines have poor eyesight that is counteracted by their scent, though D&D doesn exactly go along with biological realities. so i suppose it wouldnt be too much of a stretch to say an wolf has blind sense as a feature of its scent. so if this is the case then the intimidate factor of my pillar of flame would in reality be the sudden flash of light and heat followed by the scent of burnt hair and brimstone.

SRD: Scent: If it moves within 5 feet of the scent’s source, the creature can pinpoint that source. (They have been tracking you for a while not like they needed to while you were camping.) And yes, D&D isn't exacly like the real world. Creatures tracking by scent ignore the effects of surface conditions and poor visibility. Hide is a visual thing, it has nothing to do with masking smell. If the wolf can speak he would say "I don't have to see you if you stink".

The flash of light does 3 things. You clearly see there are 5 massive wolves. The ones that was hit yelps and pulls back with its comrade (closest easily targeted one is the ones that attacked). The other wolves keep at bay. They seem to be watching one another to determine their next action.

ooc:actually Gimble has hide in plain sight which is described as a supernatural ability to hide even when there is nothing to hide behind. Besides that in the monster manual under Special qualities it says that scent does not reveal the exact location of a creature it only reveals its pressence. Gimble is moving not staying in one place they might know that he is in the vicinity but they still need to make a spot to attack him. It is no different than when he uses the ability right in front of someone. They know he is around but they cannot see where he is.

SRD trumps MM. Anyway, I don't want to get caught up in semantics. Let's just say they attacked you but you get a 50% miss chance. Roll a 6 die and 1-3 they hit you. Technically if something pinpoints you that means it is the same as seeing you. Also hide has nothing to do with masking your BO. Unless your hide in plain sight includes taking a 15 minute bath or shower each time you do it (then I guess I'd allow it but it probably isn't worth wasting 15 minutes). Ummm next time please note that I don't allow hide in plain sight to hide from animals using scent to detect you.:P

If I do recall someone was sharp enough to buy scent blocking stuff last time you were in town. He was on the right track. BTW.. their spot is +10.

Speaking of Spot. The wolves are now lurking in the shadows and trees. The Nezumi shoots a weak ass fireball. You see two eyes close to where it went off before it runs off behind another tree.

spot 16 to see what is going on with the shiny burn burns

gripping the hilt of his sword andro charges the wolf he struck with the flame pillar ((I hit an ac of 23 for 19 points of damage as i charge then circle back to the encampment))

The dog yelps and rund further into the forest. You see him moving towards two glimmering eyes. They look to be massing deeper in the forest either for offence or defense.

a thought strikes him, animals arent malevolent. they exist to survive therefore something drew them here. glances over at the obvious answer the pot of food over the fire. but before i waste supplies we shall first see.

Andro reaches for the simmering pot takes it by the handle and hurls it into the woods in the direction of the wolves. (i dont know how big it is but i'm assuming it isnt huge just in case it is i made a str check of 14... that is unless someone stops me)

The pot goes flying into the woods. A loud cry... "My food... Oh nooooo" comes from the Nezumi. All seems relatively quiet. "Well, at least it wasn't my best pot the Nezumi laughs. I'll have to settle for beef jerkey."

To those who have a listen check over 15... You hear wolves munching on the stew. Apparently they like it.
