| ashuramarsh05-02-07, 02:06 PM | I am trying to run a Mai HiME game for a couple friends. I was wondering if anyone has doen any write ups or has any suggestions for this. I thought the HiME power might be covered by the BESM magic option, but they also seem to be items of power. Problem with magic is, you have to use energy points, and in some cases a single attack would drain theHiME and she would be utterly out of it. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. |

The 'Manifests' perse are nothing more than a weapon or item that represents the HiME's power and so, can only be used by her (in BESM terms, this would be an Item of Power). If the 'Manifest' is destroyed this does not affects the HiME-she just manifests another later on. The 'Child' is another story. These are monsters that are (in a way) connected to the HiME thru what some characters call a 'contract', endangering the 'one they care for the most'. In BESM terms, they would be a sort of Pet Monster. However, while the 'Pet Monster' gives the HiME great firepower, there's also a unique disability: if the 'Child' is ever destroyed, the 'one they care for the most' disappears and the HiME proper gets so much of a shock that they fall into comas and the like (supposedly, their powers fade for good, but I haven't seen so far into the series). If you knew all of this, then sorry, BTW. But these are my two cents.... or at least those I can give out right now. |

In fact the tatoo disappears from their body. these two defects I came up with that all HiMEs possess: d (1, HIME tattoo), Power Loss (2, if CHILD is killed, loses dearest loved one and HIME Power) i'm stilled tossed on item of power or magic option. In many ways it seems the weapon itself is just an SFX. Of course, if i wanted to be cheesy... magic option does not say you cannot buy the item of power attribute. ^_^ |

| nimbusconflict05-08-07, 02:02 AM | agreed, but i'd find s solidy system to base the series on, then start adding BESM. BESM as the core for a campaign is proven very unstable. I dislike the system, but D20 modern does fit the timeline. so i'd use Modern as the core and begin adding BESM. maybe replace action points and begin to rework talent trees to incorporate the BESM elements? it is a rather awesome series, so work hard ^^ |
| marcoasalazarm05-08-07, 11:08 AM | D20 Modern-style, I'd think that the best way to go is to create a 'HiME' Template (which would represent the 'basic' powers such as the Manifests), and then go for a 'HiME' Tree(s) that would then represent their power levels, such as the 'Great Manifest/Greater Manifest' Tree (which would represent Manifest damage increase), 'Manifest Power' Tree (which would represent the amount or type of 'tricks' available thru the Manifest-these two would be good for a Mikoto-ish HiME, if the HiMe proper takes no other Trees) and the 'Child' Tree, which would represent the size/Power Level of the 'Child' (Mai DEFINITELY would have this Tree all the way). Of course, these are my two cents. I sincerely don't know if this is what you're aiming for, and you're free to ignore this if you want. |
| ashuramarsh05-08-07, 07:11 PM | Thanks. I might have to write classes from scratch. Or simply run d20 BESM classless. I never really liked the d20 modern system. The class names make me shudder. I read an arguemnt of swome who wrote up Kagatsuchi. It was very powerful. Then someoen flamed how a Balor would kick the ass of all the CHILDs and their masters in a heart beat. Looking at the D20 Mecha military vehicles and comparing to the videos. A Balor might have some trouble sinking an aircraft carrier where as Kagatsuchi and that other one just blasted through them like butter. SO I compared the balor and the red dragon write up in the BESM D20 monster, an ancient red dragon would be slightly more powerful than a balor with the dragon getting erven more powerful if ti was older. So if Kagatsuchi fell into this catagory no way a balor would 'just' kick its ass. It'd have a fight on its hands. Anyway, you can't take an anime episode as proof of overall power, it does not balance into games. I am trying to get the HiME mangas to read through those. As I understand it MAi became even more powerful when she was a QUEEN. But keep the thoughts coming, anything would help. ^_^ |
| nimbusconflict05-14-07, 10:06 PM | i agree. i find it easier to make a setting that feels like the series than i do trying to make it exactly like it. saves so much brain damage explaining how a lil girl can take out a satelite... |
| marcoasalazarm05-14-07, 10:11 PM | Because her 'pet' was THAT MUCH (word of your choice) powerful. |
