Just wondering if anyone would be interested in a MML d20 campaign. We would use d20 modern rules, with d20 supplements. Just throwing in out their.

That might be a lot of Fun. Do you have any ideas which way you would go with it?

Generally, I let my players create their characters and background for them and bring them together somehow. I'll creat places or u can even go to places from Legends (Kattleox, Pokte Village and so on, and so forth.) If you can't think of even anything I'll throw out some suggestions, or whatever I can do to help

:P Huh? You're offering to help with your own idea? That... Sounded a bit odd when I read it.

I had done something like this a long time ago... Wow, back in '99 I think. I started working on a Megaman RPG, got a prototype banged out, and playtested it a few times.

Then, I changed some stuff after I got some feedback from other people, and it shifted to BGC (Bubblegum Crisis) weird, I know. So I worked on that, and had it playtested and it changed directions a few times.

Then my friend got ahold of my system, and ruined it... He made it literally unplayable, and added in random junk about magic.

We had a falling out a few years later (unrelated, the guy's a cat kicker) and I recycled as much of the old system as I could, and changed the name to 4050, having it in the far future. That was last used about three years ago, or so.

Now, I have the urge to work on a Megaman RPG again.

Fortuitous timing or what?

I'd actually like to help, go figure. :P But I'll be working on m own system in private too. My friends and I enjoy the D20 system greatly, but we also like to utterly powergame, so I keep that stuff out of the public eye, so as not to ruin the game for normal people.

Phew, lotta crap to wade though, I know, but I'm bore, sue me.

The big question is, where does one start? Classes? Prcs? Weapons? Armor? Races? Pick something!
zeone3000

02-09-07, 09:30 PM
The base classes from the d20 modern should work fine, and must of the PrCs. Gonna have make some weapons. Buster gun, z-saber, whatever weapon you wanna use. Unless you're gonna use your fist, even then you can make some laser claws or something. Armor, gonna have to make that too. Unless you are not going to wear any. Races, that is a tough one. There's was only humans. Oh, unless you play a robot or something, I don't know. Really, tell me what you want to do and I'll see what I can do. These type of things are about having fun, be who you wanna be type of thing. I'm just here for guidance, and it's good for my major.

Well, seeing as how much I love Megaman Legends, I need to point out that Megaman Trigger was NOT a human.

He was a purifier unit.

And then there's Bon Bonne, what's up with him? He has his entire body blow away, and is only knocked silly... Advanced robot I'd guess.

Hmmm, do we use the living con- no, I'd rather make up something new, to be honest.

And, from ingame dialogue, I'd hazard a guess that Megaman is possibly a silicone based lifeform. Since he grew up from the baby grandpa Casket found, kinda pulls away from the robot theory.

So, robots, humans (already done there, heh) and silicone lifeforms...

Which do you wanna start with?
zeone3000

02-09-07, 09:58 PM
We start with CARBON-based lifeform. Yes, sorry i forgot that he's a first class purifier unit. But, all life-forms are carbon based. So, what adavantages did megaman trigger have over regular humans. Was he stroner, faster, healthier, smarter, wiser, or have a higher sense of presence? Plus, you'll have to think of why u are on earth or whatever it is called. I need to replay it again. I can beat it in a day no prob.
mato_hibiki

02-09-07, 10:14 PM
Correction, humans are carbon based lifeforms.

Think about it, why would Megaman's master (I can't remember the guy's name, drat. Was he just 'the master'?) specifically call humans 'carbons' unless there was a difference between themselves, and humans?

Be careful with assumptions, hey?

Now, I agree that there is a problem with why they'd be on earth, but with MML2, there are two more units similar to megaman that exist.

I'm calling them 'silicon' for now, because that's the only alternative I can think of at the moment. Robots just don't grow up from babies.

It's possible that there's a whole colony out there of 'silicones' since earthlings have major problems with space travel.

But, I think it's safe to say, they must be stronger, and likely, faster too. Megaman easily hauls open big, vertically opening doors with his bare hands, takes hits from huge projectiles, both solid, and energy based, and gets right back up.

It's probably a three to five LA race, I'd say.

Stronger for sure, probably faster too. Smarter, well, there is a good chance for that. I think Megaman's race was considered perfection among bipedal races. (two legged :P )

Well, then again, since we don't know a whole lot about them, maybe we can reduce it down to a LA two or so, just give a boost to STR, DEX, and INT and some specific gear? The buster cannon, for example. An integrated arm weapon.

That's another thing, they seem to be able to directly interface with machines, lending a little more credence to my 'silicon' lifeform theory.

Argh! I just realized that I said 'silicone' instead of 'silicon'. I changed it in this post but... 'Silicone' is used for implants eww... A race of jiggly people. Gross. :yuck:
zeone3000

N/A
zeone3000

02-09-07, 10:29 PM
True, you got with carbon remark. But we should call them somehting besides silicon.

See, that's why i like u. You already have somethin in mind, there could be a whole colony of them. :D

The reason he can take hits is because of his armor isn't it?

Yes, he is stonger, but megaman wasn't that smart or faster then the average human. Roll was smart. He was even a little naive, but that's how megaman always is (low wis.) I don't know for sure. There should be different types of silicon based lifeform that focus on differnt aspects. It seems that what they would do.

Sorry for the double post.
mato_hibiki

02-09-07, 10:51 PM
Aww, you'll make me blush.

But, also remember, Megaman's being knocked off eighty foot cliffs and stuff (at least, I allways kept getting blasted off of them, rrr.) and you could buy the armor in a store.

Also, don't forget, Megaman didn't have his own memories, he locked them away in Data, his cute little dancin' monkey.

We have no real idea how the true Megaman acts.

Also, we don't see any regular humans perform anywhere close to how Megaman does. I think it's fair to say he's got bonuses on all the physical stats.

But, that brings me to your good point, there should be different types. We could easily make two, one with bonuses on physical stats, and the other on mental.

I like this idea so far, what's your view on it? Keeping in mind, with a fair LA, this will keep these guys from outshining regular humans, who will get more feats, and always be more adaptable.

*Frowns.* But, what to call them indeed? Artificial humans? I agree that 'silicons' sounds lame, though it could be used in flavor text.

Well, I know what to call the physical buffed types. 'Purifier' units. That's what Megaman was, after all. Works well too, we can restrict class to each race, since they were 'made' to do different things.

No, wait, instead of restricting classes, let's take a bit from the old AD&D second edition, and give them a level cap. That way, you can still get a few levels in different classes, but unlike a regular human, you're nowhere near as flexible and adaptable as they are.

So, to roll the ball a bit more...

Race - Purifier unit
Plus four to STR, DEX, CON.
Plus ten to base movement.
Minus four to WIS. Minus two to INT.
LA 3
Smart, Dedicated, and Charismatic classes limited to a maximum of four levels, cannot enter any Prcs of similar type.

Purifier units were designed to eliminate any failed, or unstable beings living among the Master's relm. This included other Purifier units as well, if they developed any aberrant behavior. Created to be the pinnacle of physical development, they are faster, stronger, and more durable than any other unit, with the exception of the First Class Purifier units.

There, that keeps them out of any skill heavy classes, and makes Megaman an exceptional exception. :D Heh.

Let me know what you think.
zeone3000

02-09-07, 10:57 PM
Man your on a roll tonight. But what to call the others? Also, we shouldn't limited from the charismatic class, there's no reason one can't be charismatic. Unless you have a reason. The level adjustment is to high, half dragons have a LA +3, it should be 2, i think.
mato_hibiki

02-09-07, 11:18 PM
Well, I didn't actually see Megaman ever doing anything unless he was by himself. A Purifier is more of a slayer type, which lends itself more to solo actions. And since we don't want to exclude people from a party, the best way to handle this is to limit the chrarismatic class.

Plus that opens the door for the...

Race - Bureaucratic unit
Plus four to Int, Wis, Cha.
Minus four to Str. Minus two to con.
LA 2
Strong, Fast, and Tough classes are limited to a maximum of four levels, and cannot enter Prcs of similar type.

Designed to operate the colony, carry out the day to day tasks of the master, and logistics in general, Bureaucratic units are designed for any tasks not suited to the Purifier class, which are quite numerous.

There, that's that.

Oh, the LA 3 for the purifier units is because of the fact that there'll be some Purifier only equipment, and I think an extra one to LA should make up for that.

Though, if you still don't agree, it can be easily changed. I just think that such a physically strong class, with access to race only weapons needs to be compensated a bit more is all.
zeone3000

02-09-07, 11:22 PM
There'a no such thing as a race only weapon. You can always take a exoitc weapon proficency for certain weapon out of the group. Besides that, still good suff.
mato_hibiki

02-09-07, 11:35 PM
Hence why we should make a race only weapon.

Since I don't see any way for a normal human to use an arm buster without amputating their hand first.

Remember the whole 'hand turns into a gun barrel' thing? Hence why I said race only weapon.

... Though, since it's a racial weapon, it's make sense that the purifiers start with proficiency in it. Oh! I should change that to add that Purifiers get only proficiency in only racial weapons, since they're not actually from earth, and would have little to no way of knowing how to operate normal earthling weapons.

Megaman's buster always was unique, nobody else on earth had something like that.

I'm not sure how to stat it out though, my gut tells me we should make a simple, baseline weapon, and just make separate upgrades for it.

:P Oh, duh me, we can do it just like in the game.
zeone3000

02-09-07, 11:40 PM
you do remember in mml 2 that megaman wasn't wearing his armor in the cutscene. The buster gun covers his hand and he contols from the inside. It doesn't take the place of his hand.
mato_hibiki

02-09-07, 11:46 PM
Crap, was I thinking of every single other Megaman game?

Ah well, part of my comment still stands. Because if you give regular humans access to this weapon, that's all they'll ever use.

Plus, how's a normal human gonna get access to one of these anyways?

So, fair enough, no racial only weapon. But I think we should restrict Purifiers and Bureaucratic units to only the buster to start.
zeone3000

02-09-07, 11:53 PM
There is no way megaman havd his armor when prof barrell found him. I bet u roll made it for him.
mato_hibiki

02-10-07, 12:03 AM
:P Talking about the gun. Remember I mentioned store bought armor a few posts ago?

It's for game flavor here, if everyone has access to these weapons, then they'll never use anything else. Gotta think of the big picture here.

But anyways, for now, what else do we need to do? We've got two races out of the way, what comes next? Weapons, armor, items, enemies, 'treasure'?
zeone3000

02-10-07, 12:08 AM
Judging from the post u want to do treasure. Well what u mostly find in digs are junk, zenny, and buster parts. But, would they really be in chest. That is way to convenient. Only thing that i can see in chest is really important stuff. Like card keys and the like. I try to be a little realistic, even though it's a completely made up topic.
mato_hibiki

02-10-07, 12:24 AM
Realism is relative. I agree, we should stay realistic within the setting.

Besides, I haven't found treasure in a chest, since back in '96 playing AD&D. I got conked in the head for my troubles too, had to buy a new helmet.

Treasure can just be laying about, on shelves in a room, on a table in a lab, valuable scrap on the floor.

Refractors are valuable, and if I recall, are something like a power source. (Probably a ZPM, if you ask me.) So they could be locked down in reactors, or power generators, or actually sealed in crates.

Weapons, or weapon components, or even buster upgrades, would be scavenged off of reaverbots, or leftover scrap from a battle long since over, or in a workshop, lab, or even a weapons locker in an armory.

Not to mention zenny. Again, we have no idea what zenny really is, though it looks like inert crystal. Then again, they may just be mini refractors for all we know, and nobody really knows how to tap into them. Hmm, food for thought.

Chests serve the ingame purpose of 'look here in me for good loot!' I agree that we should avoid that.
zeone3000

02-10-07, 12:29 AM
I'm glad your person who repescts realism. Those are perfect examples. Yes, zenny are small refrectors (mml very first dig, when u blow up the box coffin lookin thing). What currency system should we use, wealth (d20 modern) or actually zennies?
mato_hibiki

02-10-07, 12:42 AM
Zenny, in my opinion. At first, I liked the wealth system, but after awhile, it kind of felt awkward.

You can't really hand out wealth as a reward, since with the abstract system, it means giving someone with only five wealth two more points, is like maybe a hundred bucks, but to someone with twenty wealth, it's like giving them a new car.

So, now the question becomes... What is a refractor actually worth, by size? Should we come up with a value by dimension?

It's an interesting idea, because all refractors are pointed cylinders, so it's doable.

Off the top of my head, mmm... Set a baseline of a thousand zenny for every inch of width, and two thousand for every inch of height?

A one by one is worth, two thousand. A six inch wide, by twelve inches tall is, eighteen thousand.

Oh, stupid me. Correction there, it's reversed. Two thousand for every inch of width, a thousand for height. Because it's wide by thick, but this way, you only have to count width, since it's rated as more than height.

Boy, I wish I could articulate this better... What do you think? Any good ideas? Or do we just say it's worth a thousand zenny for every inch of dimension? Length by width by height.

If we do it the last way, a six by six by twelve inch refractor is worth... Four hundred thirty two thousand.

Wow.

But doing it that way, a football sized refractor, four by four by six, is around ninety six thousand.

Huh. What's your opinion?
zeone3000

02-10-07, 12:50 AM
Also, you have to integrate color. If you remember from MML the yellow one could power the boat, the red on could power the airship. The spectrum of color affected power level and wealth. I think ROYGBIV works very well. Plus, when you kill a reaverbot you get a small refractor, smaller than you at least, and be like light blue or green, purple, orange. Then, MML 2 they actually look like refractors and came in gray, green, blue, and various others. We could always look them up pretty easily.
mato_hibiki

02-10-07, 01:13 AM
ROYGBIV, ah Bill Nye the science guy, I loved that show.

But, was it value by color, or, was it just color based on size? Just me rambling. I agree, maybe we could make it slightly simple, and have color be a multiplier?

Seven colors, Um, let's add grey, clear, and cracked to make it an even ten.

Then, we run it by point two perhaps? Something like, this.

Cracked - x0.2 Of value total
Clear - x0.4
Grey - x0.6
Red - x0.8
Orange - x1
Yellow - x1.2
Green - x1.4
Blue - x1.6
Indigo - x1.8
Violet - x2

Also, I thought about it, and I'm thinking we should do value by a thousand per cubic inch. Add the color scheme to this and we get a sample like this.

Yellow refractor, six inches tall, by three wide, by four thick.

Six by three by four is seventy two inches, times a thousand, times one point two, is eighty six thousand four hundred zenny.

The nice thing about this is you can limit random treasure value by the random dice you roll for refractor dimensions. A d10 or lower for color quality, and whatever you want for inches.

For my example, I rolled a d12 a d8 and a d6. Just remember to use the highest rolled number for the length of the refractor, to keep that pointy crystal theme going.
zeone3000

02-10-07, 01:21 AM
Umm...you got it backards, violet is the cheapest, red the best. Besides that good stuff
mato_hibiki

02-10-07, 01:24 AM
:P Fine fine whatever, this all needs to be retyped when it's finished. For now, it's the method to our madness we need to worry about.

Ok, refractors seem to be finished, except for the specific order they come in.

So what comes next?
zeone3000

02-10-07, 01:26 AM
Weapon, armor, items, or enemies you choice.
mato_hibiki

02-10-07, 01:49 AM
Must I do everything myself?! :P Kidding, kidding, but I think I'm gonna call it a night, it's been a long day.

We'll have to pick this up again next time. Though, feel free to slap down any ideas you've got, and I'll read them over when I check the boards again tomorrow.

G'night. :D

REAVERBOT

Construct: A construct usually has no Intelligence score and never has a Constitution score. Unless otherwise noted, it has darkvision with a range of 60 feet. A constructs is immune to mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns, and morale effects), poisons, sleep, paralysis, stunning, disease, death effects, necromantic effects, and any effect that requires a Fortitude save unless it also works on objects. It is not subject to critical hits, subdual damage, ability damage, ability drain, or energy drain. A construct is not at risk of death from massive damage, but when reduce to 0 or fewer hit points, it is immediately destroyed. Since it was never alive, a construct cannot be raised or resurrected. A construct cannot heal damage, though it can be healed through repair in the same way an object can. The fast healing special quality works for those constructs that have it, despite their lack of Constitution. All reaverbots are neutral unless otherwise stated.

This the first reaverbot you'll see in MML are zakobons, in game. Fairly weak, and you'll see different types of them. Still need to do treasure, and organizations. More reaverbots to come. To answer your question on refractors, color and size both matter. In MML2, when you destroyed a reaverbot, you found red and yellow zenny as well.

Because this is the future, and seeing how a lot people making their living by going on 'digs', most melee weapons are available. If anyone couldn't get a buster gun, why did the junk shop sell buster parts? I know, probably because megaman was buying them, and it's a game. But how would other people protect themselves. Everyone is not gonna want one. Besides, they are not that powerful, it's the buster part that makes it powerful. We can make so any weapons upgradeable, future weapon that is. Also, you can find most armors as well, but should they as effective as newer armor? Especially when you consider the destructive force of the weapons, compare to the old types of armor. Then, every digger has a spotter, but I guess every person doesn't have to be a digger. What else could you be, purifier and bureaucrat write themselves. Most of the game gonna happen on digs, unless your something like a pirate hunter or a pirate. I'm answering my own questions. Items, you have armor, helmets, footwear, shields and other body equipment. Then, you have the stuff from mml. Health tank, special weapon tank, camouflage, antidotes, fire extinguisher, just a lot stuff.

Would you happen to have your game file still Mato?
mato_hibiki

02-26-07, 01:18 PM
By game file, do you mean my savegame file for Megaman legends?

Or do you mean my old D&D files? Because if you're talking about that, I did all my work on paper, a long time ago. Back then, I didn't even own a printer, and was working off of Megaman X. My computer ran off of windows '95 at the time, ick. :yuck:

I know for sure that all those old works are long gone, some of them were accidentally doused with coffee, or just plain lost by a careless person who was 'sort of' helping me. *Grumble.*

As for the chances of me still having my MML stuff... No, I really doubt it. I'd have to go out and buy the game, since when I first played it, it was a rental copy.

... Now I want to go hunting on e-bay for it... Nah, I'll check some EBs in the area first, maybe I can get it for ten bucks if I'm lucky.

Nice work on the Reaverbots zeone3000, by the way.

I'm thinking about some sort of adaption of a few of Megaman's 'unique' weapons. We need to give a little love to the melee only people.

Maybe some sort of, ahem...

Wait for it.

Energy sword?

:D Hah! you thought I was gonna say lightsaber or energy katana?

I have two damaged hips.

Some days I have trouble doing this thing called 'walking'. :P

Just a minute ago, I felt hungry, and lo, there was a Snickers on my dresser. The side said 'hungry? grab a Snickers' so I did.

Now I'm sitting here, staring at it, waiting for the wrapper to tell me what to do with it.

They forgot to put 'then open and eat it' on the damn thing. :D

Silly jokes aside, there's still plenty of stuff to work on here before we're even close to it being done.

I'll be the first to admit I suck at monsters, so I leave the Reaverbots to you zeone3000. The first three were awesome, by the way, if I haven't said that yet.

Should we allow weapons to be made by anyone with craft, or do we need to restrict that to a special class? I'd really like to give a wink and a nod to Roll's skill, but that seems like something separate from being a spotter.

Any opinions on this?
zeone3000

02-26-07, 07:36 PM
Anyone can learn a craft, we could make so they have to take feats for certain types of things. For instance, craft special weapons, armor, accessories. We could make a class that better at then most. I try to follow the guidlines that wizard lays out and make them work for me.

And i'll bang out more reaverbots from first game, i found the orginial names of the reaverbots.
