A man cloaked in robes and a concealing hood stands at a spot of bare ground, leaning on a quarter staff. He seems to be observing something, perhaps the ground. He begins to whispers words in a languge that sound more like gibberish than a sentence. Suddenly, the earth begins to rumble and a stone building rises out of the ground with a sign on it that says.....................

MindForge - We can provide you with that materials to defeat your arch enemy if you provide us with 50% of the materials!

The man walks into the building - various swords and armor strew the wall; potions of varying colors and quantities line another; on yet another wall are rings, bracers, and just about every item one can think of. Magnus goes to stand behind the counter, awaiting the first curious person.

Aravilar blinked as the building rose from the earth. "Whoa!" he said. The elf with the mismatched eyes ran over to the place and read the sign.

"Mindforge, huh?" he muttered.

He walked inside and began to peruse the shelves, looking for anything interesting.
Magnus-Valandiel

01-25-04, 08:23 PM
The person behind the counter bows to Aravilar as he comes in and begins to browse the elves. Aravilar sees various rings, staffs, wands, potions, and the like lining the walls, all with varying effects and powers. In his raspy, deep voice, the man speaks to Aravilar.

"Might I help ye find something, sirrah? If one of the items on those shelves do not fit your needs, I make one to suit yer needs."

The man took off his cloak.

He was a very tall and wide man. His beard shone in the icy sunlight. His face had the look of many adventures. His clothes were tattered rags, bit by the wind.

Aravilar was silent

The man took a longsword out from the shelves. He studied it until it glowed in a blue manner. Aravilar felt attracted to it. He walked to it.

Suddenly...
Magnus-Valandiel

01-28-04, 03:24 PM
The figure behind the counter seems to be gazing at the blade that Aravilar holds in his hands.

There are certain runes in an forgotten tongue on the blade...there are Arcana Runes, Runes of Magic. BUt also RUnes in some other language...The figure behind the counter straightens up, looking Aravilar's way...

"Sirrah, that is a dangerous sword...I found it during one of my journeys in the clutches of ... well, an enemy. I am not sure I can allow you to take that blade, though if ye do wish it, there's not much I can say to dis-suade ye, I'm sure. Mind that you control the blade, and the blade does not control ye..."

OOC:
Thank you to Gene_Kynes for this stuff...

I've...just...got a few comments, nothin' too major.

I got this speech from Gene when i first started posting here, and it's a good one to understand.

Behold our most sacred law: The Freedom of Destiny. Usually, it's there so combat is fair...but I might as well be a jerk and yell at someone even at a minor infarction. Or else, I'd...actually...be nice. And we can't let that happen, no siree.

Anyway, it just means you can't type someone's response for them, in the event that they're another Player Character (PC). Only they can type their character's actions, and the PC attempting to interact with them can only attempt to do things, unless...naturally...using D&D rules or whatever, it's unavoidable. For instance, a massive wall. You can have the massive wall close in on the hapless person, but their reaction is theirs alone.

Hence...please edit your post. I love to see this thread get more people, but I don't like people typing what others say or do. For instance:

Gene stepped up behind Agudo, and depressing his knee onto Agudo's coccyx, ripped the garrote through the Archmages throat.

That's a more severe statement, though. . Er...here's something lighter.

And then Gene said to Branth "From now on, you'll call me God." The poor dragon replied "Y-yes!"

You see? Freedom of Destiny. You'll learn to appreciate it when threads get combative. Anyway...happy posting, and enjoy yourself!

(( Ooh! And more!

Here's the easiest way to know what's FoD violating, and what's not. What can your character control entirely? His body, his mind-linked familiars, maybe dominated living things, and your own PC's/NPC's. For instance, if your Wizard was sick of Gene's sarcasm:

Aravilar murmured obscure, ancient words, weaving complex symbols that burned into the air. Raising his arms powerfully above him, he then attempts to merely touch the Shadowdancer.

Gene's Response
As the elven man's finger made contact, Gene's body dissapeared into an almost comical puff of smoke...and where the Shadovar-blooded man once stood, was a squirrel.(Or frog, or rabbit, or hamster, or rat, or whichever. ))

Or...

As the elven man's finger made contact, a plume of smoke rose from the ground beneath him...but when it cleared; Gene was still standing, a simple smirk on his features as he cooly said: "There's no tomarrow for you, sunshine."

There, more proper examples, heh!

Aravilar cannot be forced to hear anything, on the grounds that you don't know anything about him but the fact that he exists, right now.

Please edit your post to compensate.

Aravilar.

Mind flayers walking around town just like that not bothering even with a hood let alone ilusions and self alteration spells are hardly a common sight right?
Well then that's not a common sight. The creature walks with elegance and calmness it wears black silk robes that look a litle like a lady's long gawn and has a backpack like thingy (like the thing modern engeneering students use instead of backpacks) on its back. The strange cntainer is full of large rolled parchments and bristoles and many smaller scrolls and looks like it holds nothing else but some kind of large circlet with small devices attached to it hangs on the side of the "backpack".
THe mind flayer stops after a few steps into the Mind Forge establishment.

*A young woman dressed in flowing blue clothes, unarmed, cautiously walks about the perimeter of this Mind Forge before stepping inside. She blinks a couple of times before she's adjusted to the dimness.*

Ah, curious...

*Seems to wander.*

Aravilar, your words confuse me. Not to mention sleightly anger me. Could you not have phrased it a bit more kinder?
And... as the DM of my thread., it is my duty to let the PCs (people like you) know what is going on - including with the items that are in my game. And unless I severely misunderstood you, you picked up one item (the Sword) from a shelf within a store within my game. No, I still fail to see how I destroyed your Freedom of Destiny. I am giving you a background and a story to build up from.
I have been playing D&D for 5 years. I know what FoD is. And this:

... is not destroying your FoD. I am giving you a background, a story to RP off of from. In no manner way shape or form controlling your character.

I *could* have said:
Aravilar feels the voice within the sword take over his mind and force him to kill the man behind the counter.
That, as I see it, is destroying FoD. Am i making sense?

Now, if Aravilar has some sort of telepathic/psychological/magical/whatever guard, then I can see you not hearing the voice from the sword. If so please please please please *please*! let me know.
But regardless if he does have that block, Magnus, being the kind shopkeeper that he is, is still going to give Aravilar a warning like he did.
I just don't see how it's a disruption of FoD...if I am misunderstanding something, feel free to explain to me but...do you understand what I am saying?

Silverfire (Su):
At will- the Chosen of Mystra can be protected as if under the effects of a Ring of Warmth, a Ring of Mind Shielding, or a Necklace of Adaptation. The Chosen can also purge herself of all external magical and supernatural compulsions or mind-affecting effects as if a Greater Dispelling had been cast upon his. This use of the Silverfire counts as a free action, however only one of the above effects can be in use at any one time.

A woman enters the shop with a slight hesitation, though that doesn't seem to hinder her. Her blue sapphire eyes look around, her black lips pursed in thought, her multicoloured hair flowing gently behind her, and her walk so eloquent. This woman has the air around her that would make others want to lower their gaze from her in respect from her beauty.

Okay! Thank you for clearing that up. I'm editing my post now (after this post...). All Aravilar, then, hears is Magnus warning him about that sword. And if Aravilar has some kind of "Sense Evil" or whatever, he can feel an intense, almost overwhelming, evil coming from that sword...
Magnus-Valandiel

01-29-04, 09:45 PM
(Sorry for not posting to the rest of ye so soon!!! :( ))

((Oh, and you, mindflayer (NY Wench), is your character cloaked and hidden, or showing his true form??))

((This is assuming that you are NOT cloaked or otherwise hidden)) Magnus looks to the mindflayer at the doorway and nods to ... it, motioning for it come in...
"Don't just stand in the door - yer letting all the light in."

He then looks to the woman radiating beauty, and bows to her. He in turn bows to the "wandering" woman.
"Can I help either of ye find something?"
Leenaria The Pixie

01-29-04, 09:47 PM
She nods politely to the man who spoke to her, "Aye good sir, I have come in search of something particular, something quite rare."
Magnus-Valandiel

01-29-04, 09:49 PM
He nods and smiles, though you can't see it - an odd smile, a cocky smile tinged with knowing of sorts....a magical smile, the kind that sends shivers down one's spine.
"Well, I hope that I carry it here; even if I do not, however, I might be able to make it for ye. What do ye look for?"
Leenaria The Pixie

01-29-04, 09:54 PM
Quickly she moved to his side, she looked like a blur when she moved. She whispered to him, her warm breath could be felt on his neck, "I first like you to know that your smile or whatever it was, is quite chilling. Second of all I dare not speak in front of others. May we stand a bit apart from them?" Her voice sounded like an angel's voice, very soft and light with a hint of kindness. She gently wraped her arm around his and smiles warmly at him.
Magnus-Valandiel

01-29-04, 10:05 PM
As the woman puts her arm on Magnus' shoulder, she is shocked. Memories of hateful deaths and burning hate fills her mind. He steps aside from the woman, his staff in front of him.
"Do...not touch me ... I am no creature worth sympathy nor love...COme...follow me..."

Through a door in the back, the shrouded man dissapears, through the door. When the woman steps through, she finds herself in a grassy field, the sun shining down...
"Now - what is it?"
Leenaria The Pixie

01-29-04, 10:09 PM
When the memories flood her mind she quickly lets go, placing her hand on her forehead. Though a soft smile still forms on her lips. After following him she looks around the area and nods, "Very nice, now down to business. I am here as my life rests on what I can do to relieve my mind of such a curse. I do know of an item, though I wish not to travel that far unless I must. Tell me, what do you know of dreams that slowly kills one each time one rests?" Curious of his answer she looks at him, folds her arms in front of her and waits for his answer.
Magnus-Valandiel

01-29-04, 11:30 PM
He leans on his staff as he listens to the woman speak of her problem...He is silent for a moment.

A magical death due to dreams...sounds like some kind of evil magic to me...

"Sounds like ye are plagued by some kidn of magical curse to me. In the Arcane Books, I have read of spells enabling one to invade the dreams and mind of certain individuals, causing them to have such nightmares that it does, in the end, kill them. If you suspect it is something else...do ye? I have some mind-protecting items in my shop and...though this should only be used as a last resort...I have the power to create such an item that will encase your soul in that item - be it amulet, ring or sword - that it cannot be breached by any but you. What exactly do ye search for?"
Leenaria The Pixie

01-29-04, 11:34 PM
She watches him, his movements and lips while he speaks, then speaks up herself, "I am not sure how this happened. All I know is that its been troubling me since I remember, since I was young. I am now 250 years old and thats a long time to be cursed is it not? I seek anything that will help, do you have one preference over the other of the suggestions you gave me?"
Magnus-Valandiel

01-29-04, 11:44 PM
He ponders for a moment. "Well, placing my soul within an item...well, I may as well show ye."
He lowers his hood ever so sleightly to reveal gleaming read eyes and an undead head...that of a Lich. He pulls the hood back over his head.
"This is what putting my soul in an item did to me. Nearly destroyed me. Then again....well, never mind. Yes, mind-portecting items would probably suit ye best...any idea what kind ye would need?"
Leenaria The Pixie

01-30-04, 12:01 AM
She shakes her head, "None at all..."
Exiled_Beauty

01-30-04, 10:03 AM
"This is all rather intrigueing. (sp?) Perhaps this place is more than what I first thought."

*She smiles warmly and walks around glancing at this and that. Fully immersed, and deep in thought, she stands away from the group of people.*
Magnus-Valandiel

01-30-04, 08:36 PM
He ponders for a moment, obviously thinking.
"That ye know of, yer not sensitive to any kind of magic, are ye? And have ye spoken to any others of this matter? A sage, perhaps? Or an Archmage?"
Leenaria The Pixie

01-31-04, 04:22 PM
She nods, "I have spoken to many, archmages..clerics...necromantics..psion ists.. and the like, no one has been able to help me. It is quite frustrating."
Magnus-Valandiel

01-31-04, 10:51 PM
He nods, resting on his staff as he does so. It almost seems he is worn out by being out here - but one can never really tell, with him.
"And sensitivity to magic...have ye any sensitivities to magic that ye have found out about?"
Leenaria The Pixie

02-01-04, 02:47 AM
She shook her head again and lowered her eyes, letting out a soft sigh.

That is wise~
The voice only sounded in the owner's head she didn't like to actually open her mouth and speak it was a bother for her. She entered closing the door behind her and after looking at everyone around started to telepath the owner again:
I have a leader. My leader has a rival...~
Before she pushed her thoughts completely in the man's head he dissappeared behind a side door with a woman that was far too beautyfull. She wasn't impressed by the beuty as a human (or a halfling) would but she wasn't oblivious or indifferent to it either. She was a woman herself an unimaginably long tome ago and was neither beutyfull not gifted with humor and flirtuous nature. She could still manipulate men to do what she wants but beutyfull women still stood in her way not to mention the too tall intruders like human and elven women...
Now she will just have to wait for him to return
Magnus-Valandiel

02-02-04, 11:15 PM
After a time, Magnus walks back into the shop, surveying the newcomers and going-on's. He is eventually followed by the beauty-radiating woman (I hope?).

"Well, now, does anybody need help with anything?"

He then turns to the mindflayer.
"My appologies - you were speakiing and I'm afraid I cut ye off...what do ye need?"

Speaking to the woman following him back out of the room...
"I will find you some items that I hope may help in just a moment - or ye can browse, and see if ye can find something that ye think would help ye."

The flayer doesn't say nothing about having to wait (she had time) instead she telepathes the forge's owner starting over

I have a leader. My leader has a rival. A date of importance comes soon. This date will be ten thousand years since his borth. This date will be nine thousand and seven hundred and ninty one year since i met him at first and became his aprentice. This date will be nine thousand and seven hundred and sixteen years since his death. This date will be a greate jubelee since i was taken by the Collector. This date will be a lesser jubelee since i regained mobility. This date will be six hundred and forty years since i met him again and became the eldest of his new students ~

The telepathuc voice is so monotonic that a normal person would fall asleep if not die of boredom or just get in coma like from hypnosys but the mjind flayer continues and she seems to get to the point finally

I wish to grant him a present for this greate date. I wish to slay his rival. Have you heard of the Xanathar? ~

Aramil enters and detects magic for godly artifacts ....
Magnus-Valandiel

02-08-04, 10:36 PM
A mild amusement enters his voice as he responds to the mind flayer.
"The Xanathar? Aye, I've heard of 'im. Who in the Realms hasn't. Let me get this straight - ye want something in which to slay the Xanathar? Or are ye tellin me ye serve the Xanathar? EIther way -did ye have in mind any idea what ye are looking for?"

Aramil, when he attempts to detect for the powerful magical items, is somehow ... masked, as if under some kind of anti-detection magic.
N.Y. Wench

02-10-04, 11:14 AM
The mind flayer felt very angry that someone could allow the thought that she serves that witless mortal of an orb or that the same witlessmortalofanorb could live to the same age as that of her guildmaster who was an Elder then a lich and then a demilich but she didn't show her anger. Shicame couldn't help but respect and give credit to someone in whose shopt demigods visit and she always supressed her anger when "speaking" to someone who earned her (very hard to earn) respect so her "voice" staied calm

The Xanathar is my leader's rival. A crown i will weave from the Xanathar's eyes will make a suiting present for my leader. For the date of ten thousand years since my leader's birth. I know no clean way to take them and came to you for that. I will find what ever ingredients it will take. Only name them ~
Magnus-Valandiel

02-13-04, 09:54 AM
He ponders for a moment, and it appears that, if this hooded enitty could smirk, he'd be doing so now.

"Hm...a crown...well, first, I shall probably need a sample of your blood...also, a saphire, a moonstone, two solid bars of gold...and what magical effects do you desire to be placed on this crown, if any?"
necrodude16

02-15-04, 03:56 AM
You there these weapons deserve not thy mortal hands , they belong to one who will weild them proply like mystra...give them to me or mystra and i wll be back
Magnus-Valandiel

02-15-04, 04:43 PM
The hooded shop-keeper levels a gaze at this potential customer, who, as it appears, wants to steal all of his items, and thus business, away from him.

"With all due respect sir; you will have to peel all of these items from my cold, dead fingers. Which, as I am sure, you will find extremely hard to accomplish. Nay, I must deny your request."

He then lowers his hood to reveal the already dead, fleshy, disgusting head of a lich.
"And if this is your one and only business in my shop; remove yourself from here, lest I assist you in the endeavor."

He then bows
"Have a good life."
Seeing the matter as over, he turns once again to the mindflayer to continue their conversation.
N.Y. Wench

02-17-04, 07:00 AM
I can provide this. But did we undrstand each other? I need something to kill him first. Making the crown is secondary ~

The mind flayer's eyes close for hald a 2nd and then open but she seemed very concentrated while it lasted

I am called to another place. But they will wait. ~

Odro tries hard to stop thinking about taking the mind of a demigod (he's threatening someone she needs something from) but can't and moves to thinking about how she would increace her chances about it
Magnus-Valandiel

02-17-04, 10:05 AM
He nods, understandably, and moves to one of the shelves. He takes a wand and a diamond from the shelf and returns to the mindflayer

This first wand that I give to you is a wand that will disable the Xanathar's maigcal powers. He will be completely defenseless. It is a Wand of Dispel Magic. This diamond that I give you is a special diamond designed to trap the very essence of the beast. I hope that these can be of assistance to you. Anything else that I can help you with?"
Khaira

02-20-04, 08:13 PM
A woman walks into the establishment, looking around at the various wares...
"How about magical instruments? Do you carry those?"She eyes the hooded one curiously, wondering as to its real form underneath the secrecy...

02-21-04, 12:14 AM
What with his men? My might is greate. My collegues will follow. But it isn't enough. Crushing through his men will alert him. The Xanathar will escape ~
Odro heard someone behind her asking about magical items and rolled her eyes but atleast it was a lot less stupid than demanding the owner to hand everything over like the way the semi devine man did
And don't hesitate to say the price. For these two too ~
Magnus-Valandiel

03-11-04, 08:15 PM
He looks to the lady who had asked about magical instruments.
"Tell me what kind of instrument ye be needing, and I'd see what I can do for ye. Of course, the price'll be steep since that kind of thing is not my specialty."
He then turns back to the mindflayer.
"Tell me what ye need or desire, and I shall give it to ye. I have heard of the Xanathar and his men, aye, but I know nothing about them. I need more details. I can give you items to make you invisible, immortal for a time, or surrounded by flame, but I need to know exactly what ye need."
