I like certain aspects of both, and want to create something that synthesizes the two (mainly a modern setting with more defined classes and a money based system rather than wealth checks, etc.)

As long as you cite both documents in the OGL's Section 15 Copyright Notice, feel free to mix n match. They're all OGC.
