correct me if i am wrong.

human wizard 6
feats: still spell, sanctum spell*, arcane thesis(lesser orb of acid)*

*build essential(note: arcane thesis could be any 1st level energy spell)

now the fun.

lesser orb of acid: 1

sanctum lesser orb of acid, outside sanctum: 0

arcane thesis: -1:D

i am still trying to figure out if this is a good thing.

Afraid it doesn't work like that.

Arcane Thesis etc. can't drop a spell below it's base level. In other words if you are using a 1st level spell, it cannot go below 1st. If you are using a 2nd, it cannot go below 2nd.

i have not seen a rules reference to that.

the text for arcane thesis is:

Choose one arcane spell you can cast to be your thesis spell. When casting that spell, you do so at +2 caster level. When you apply a metamagic feat other than Heighten Spell to that spell, it uses up a sell slot one level lower than normal. For example, an empowered thesis spell would use up a spell slot one level higher than the spell's actual slot(rather than two levels higher as normal).

Reread sanctum spell: it treats it as one level lower for casting, you still prepare it normally.

Yes, he should have Sanctum Spell, Energy Substitution, and Arcane Thesis. Alternatively, he could have used a cantrip as the base spell.

Arcane Thesis only changes the slot you can prepare the spell in. So you could prepare your Orb in a -1st level slot if you had one. You don't, so you have to use a higher-level slot.
The interesting thing is that a Sanctum Prestidigitation is a -1st level spell. I'm not sure if this is ever relevant, though.

It breaks anything related to spell levels. Like trapmaking or item crafting costing negative money.
