I'm trying to find a forum for Open Gaming License Questions, but I'm a touch lost. Is this the right place?

Yes. But you will only find non-legal answers here.

Only practicing lawyers can give you legal advice.

I suppose I am vaguely in need of a lawyer,or maybe just a precedent set by someone else.

I'm interested in making some software (not an interactive game) but a gaming aid. I don't actually have any illusions that I actually will make money, but I'd like to give it a try and sell the software I am making. As a gaming aid it is intended to help players of the d20 system, that would require d20 gaming information. Assuming that I took all the necessary steps to clearly identify the OGL content from the software, and made clear the charging was for the application, and not the freely distributed software, could I openly and fairly charge money for the software?

Are you using OGL or OGL + d20STL?

I guess d20 and ogl.

It is the stuff licensed in the SRD, like spells and feats.

If you're going to use both licenses, make sure you abide by the d20 System Trademark License, including the accompanying Trademark Usage Guide.

Make sure your software is nowhere near defined as "Interactive Game."

Make sure you designate OGC, be it displayed on monitor or printed out, or located within the software's programming. OGC in the form of software [data] code must also be accessible to other programmers to use. You can alternatively provide said code in TXT or Help file.

Make sure you attach OGL to the software. It can be in the form of a README or LICENSE txt file or a Help file. You can provide them as hardcopy and enclosed in the same package the software will contain in, but I prefer it attached to the software when installed in one's computer.
