Sounds like they might be working on a OGL v2. Note, however, that OGL v1 is forever, and material released under it will always be OGL/OGC.

Actually, there are OGL v1.0 and OGL v1.0a. :smirk:

Both licenses are still valid.

Ah, but perhaps your concern is for the d20 System Trademark License. Since it relates to the use of their d20 System Trademark (among other things they own), they may further restrict it, even switching it from royalty-FREE to royalty-FEE.

But so far, nothing's solid yet.

If you're referring to me, then no...I'm not concerned about the d20 license. And there have been hints that they might retool the OGL license.

And just to be extra clear, I mean Open Game License, not d20 License. I've long expected the d20 license to be heavily reworked. I -know- that's being revised. I'm saying there are suggestions that the OGL is -also- being tweaked, but it is still FREE.

Then what sort of revision needed for the OGL? Further clarification of one's copyright? :uh-huh:

Oh for crying out loud...here's the quote from WotC ScottR:

Q. Are the 4E OGL and the 3.5 OGL going to be the same?
A. they will be different but I don't know how different (rules aside) until we write the thing.

If you want to express to him your skepticism and doubt that the 4e and 3e OGLs will be different, here's the thread http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=905801&page=7 . I'm sure you're much better informed about it than he is.

Also, apparently fees are off the table for the d20 license, if it even survives. Going OGL-only is a possibility.

With all due respect, his credibility is going down in my eyes. It's like whatever statement WotC whispered in his ear, didn't exactly came out right out of his mouth to us.

I'm going to wait and see what the new version of the OGL is going to be. If it does not satisfy with the public, you still have the two other valid versions.

Still glad they're going to keep the d20 Trademark License royalty-free.

Oh, I don't like the idea or concept that there is only one way to designate OGC in Covered Product (e.g., text box only). I think it's up to the individual author to decide but he must clearly specify how to locate the OGC in his Covered Product.
