| Maelifisis02-25-06, 11:17 PM | Welcome to The Magister’s Realm – a fantasy adventure thread dealing with… 1. An ancient house in a mostly deserted district of a sea-side town; a house with many doors. 2. An invitation to a group of seven (7) adventurers; heroes/anti-heroes whom individually have proven themselves worthy of a great task. 3. The chance to explore many alternate worlds to right an ancient wrong and, perhaps, to do a great good. This game thread is meant to allow serious players and/or serious (albeit probably amateur) writers to enjoy creating and playing enjoyable, complex characters. The Magister’s Realm is about heroes, and even anti-heroes, working together to save a great artifact which has implications for the entire cosmos. Mature players are welcome. By mature I mean those willing to work with others for the creation of a story and the enjoyment of all. For the characters Create an interesting heroic or anti-heroic character of 10th level. Any character class is allowed, even psionic. Many templates and monstrous races will be allowed with approval, though level adjustments will be calculated unless racial levels are being used. Write a back story for your character to submit along with your character sheet. Mention what signature equipment your character employs (rune etched and engraved staff of power; soul stealing sword; hammer of thunder & lightning; ornate +4 mace, etc.) For this one item, feel free to ignore the rules on gold piece limit for the purposes of magical treasure/items with one restriction: no artifacts, minor or otherwise. For all other items and magical items, calculate the normal treasure for an NPC of level 10 according to the rules in the DMG 3.5 (v.3E is also acceptable). Heroes: Think Conan, Robin Hood, Aragorn, the Lone Ranger, or any other good adventurer. They may be rough, rude and/or doing something illegal, but we all know they work for what they consider “good.” Anti-heroes, think Elric of Moorcock’s Eternal Champion series (who allowed torture of innocent slaves for entertainment, due to his country’s customs, and who felt little sympathy; but who later learned to fight against chaos for the sake of a lesser race called man); Sho-so Maru of Innuyasha (anime series; a demon who does good in spite of himself); Sherlock Holmes (a messed-up, drug-addicted genius crime solver), or any other not-so-easy to peg character who may have occasionally worked toward the “greater good,” but whom also may have committed moral/ethical errors. A villain, like ‘Braham Stoker’s Dracula doing something good for personal reasons, would also be a viable character. For the Players Honor is a must for this game. You do not need to use a die-rolling program – just roll the dice at home, or wherever you play from, and let us know the actual results; I will, of course, roll for all NPCs. Petitions may be made via private messaging if someone suspect unfair play and/or cheating. We will deal with that perception as we must for the betterment of the game for all. Petitions A player may private message (PM) the game master (me) to challenge a ruling, but must not complain about a ruling in the forum/thread, even in out of character speech. This undermines my ability to run the game and lessens the enjoyment of all. If a petition is deemed credible, restitution will be made in a later round/action of combat or in another role-playing/skill-using round, etc. For example, a player is fighting a ghost and it is ruled that her last sword attack failed. However, the player feels that the failed attack should have succeeded because she’d earlier explained that her holy sword had the ghost touch ability. I would not change the status of her “missed attack,” (we wouldn't go back in time to change the ruling) but I would allow her a critical hit in the following round, possibly destroying the ghost. Those wishing to play: Create a D&D-type character description and history and then submit it here for approval. I will post acceptance of the first seven characters and close this post to other submissions. I will notify those who are accepted in this post. Then the adventure will begin. |
