What about d20 modern or a variation of the SW d20?

Special handguns firing what amounts to charmed shotgun shells if I remember right, just with the right enhansements on the ammunition with a special weapon needed to fire it.

I am designing a prestige class and a legacy weapon just for caster shells, it still sucks though. but i am going to have over 200 special shells, come on, its dnd that i am doing it in after all.

There's only 13 shells, right? I would limit myself to that amount and duplicate the effects. Do NOT bother to write up hundreds of spells - most of them do the same thing... damage.

Outlaw star doesn't seem to scale damage for casters, but you may include additional feats which allow for it. (Add 1d6 damage for a caster's effect, etc)

Since only some people can even fire casters, have casters REQUIRE a feat Exotic Weapon: Caster, Required.

Gene Starwind is a Scoundrel, use the d20 Star Wars Scoundrel class as a base. (I have a more generic 'scoundrel' class for d20, but it's not up yet... it will be soon, again, limited to my limited artistic ability.)

A 'scoundrel' is not a thief. That's why I referred to the Star Wars version. Han Solo, the prototype Scoundrel, isn't a thief either. Read the Star Wars description again, and you'll see the Gene fits in it close to perfectly.

Actually I think theres 20. But 3 are uber-rare

Is there a full list of the shells statted out for d20?

Not yet, but that's partially because we don't actually see all 20 types in the anime. Unfortunately, I no longer have a copy of Outlaw Star to look at, else I would stat them myself.

Well you can watch almost all the episodes on myspace to get your answer. But i can say that a #5 shell is the equiv of a beam form of a fire ball(see archmage pc), #12 is a line of lightning bolt, #19 starts but turns out to be a dud, so i'll have to watch for more. It is after all a one shot long barreled pistol. So for stats i'd say:

Caster Range 60ft increment Damage *** weight 6lbs
ammo damage and other stats would vary.

Required feats and skills to use a Caster:
Exotic weapon Pro(small arms) find IK PHB or
Exotic Weapon pro(Fire arms) find WOW or WC PHB
Exotic Weapon Pro(Caster) (to use this gun)

K(arcana) 2 ranks, K(alchemy) 2 ranks, craft(small arms, cannoneering, fire arms, weapons, technological device) 2-5 ranks also depending on GM
Craft Wondrous Item (Skills and this feat are required so you can fix it if it breaks)

I'll contiue to watch it and continue posts. Also from memory i do know that some of the uber rare shells are bad for the use for a great balancing effect.

And if people don't like my first idea here GO play a Gun Mage from IK and make your own caster ammo!

Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Caster Pistol) seems like it would make the most sense. 60ft seems a little on the light side for range, but D&D keeps weapon ranges rediculously low.

Weapon power seems dependant on character level (like Arms do in Wild Arms)

Don't forget, the rarest are #4, #9, and #13

One of them produces a mini singularity (black hole) :D
