Well, as a subscriber to Dragon (and no I still refuse to lash out at WoTC . . .we live in a capitalist society, money talks, if you're going to blame WoTC for making a decision that is unpopular, well more power to you) . . .

Damn, lost my train of thought :embarrass

Oh yeah, anybody considering Pathfinder? Paizo's new product. Looks kind of cool . . . any thoughts on it.

I know this may be the wrong place for this but, meh.

After initially selecting store credit, I've decided to give Pathfinder a try. It looks like it might be greater than the sum of its predecessors...

I am really looking forward to Pathfinder. Given the impressive talent that Paizo still has, I am sure it will be an impressive monthly. Also, with such a high cover price, I suspect there will be less advertising content in the pages.

I had just renewed my subscriptions to Dragon and Dungeon when WOTC pulled the plug. Therefore, I have 5 issues of Pathfinder coming my way. I am looking forward to it.:D

the only thing that gives me pause is the pricetag- even $14/month for the subscription rate is a hefty, hefty increase over the magazines, and it comes close to an amazon WotC hardcover. I'm still going to try it for a couple of months, though.

I'm getting it because I love what they have been doing. You should check out their daily blog and message boards; there's good stuff in the previews. I love the goblins, just love em. The guys over at paizo are doing some great stuff, always have and always will. So, look it over and see what you think

I completely agree. I have 2 books coming for free. I'm leaning towards subscribing soon, just to get the free player's guide to their world for free.

I'm giving it a shot. I like the concept. I think that if the quality and quantity is what they have promised it will be well worth the price. (And with Paizo's record I see no reason why it will be any less.)

Unfortunately, Adventure Paths might just be the part of Dragon/Dungeon that I used the least. My DM's still trying to get up the gumption to run Shackled City and is at least a bit tickled by the thought of Savage Tide... I reckon at the speed we get through adventures I'd be buying stuff I can't use for like two more years at $20 a month and that seems like way too much.

Pathfinder's going to ROCK. It's not only an Adventure Path, since every book will have a lot of features independent from the actual campaign arc (like new monsters, their ecology, new stuff like feats, magic items and the like, and loads of stuff you can just drop in your own campaigns, not even talking about the encounters themselves you can just pick-n-drop whenever you choose to do so).

To know more about pathfinder, two links besides the Pathfinder homepage itself (http://paizo.com/pathfinder):

- The Pathfinder Blog (http://paizo.com/pathfinder/blog)
- The Pathfinder forums (http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/pathfinder) on Paizo's message boards

Lots of information available, already. :)

$19.00 a month for only 94 pages?
No thank you. That's 108 bucks for a single adventure path. I can get a 224 page hardback from WotC for 30-ish.

I too have been impressed and become a charter subscriber.

I am looking forward to Pathfinder and hope that it will only improve what was published in its precursor magazines.

While the price of Pathfinder will be point, I will also add that since I have chosen to give my hard earned (usually) cash to Paizo I will not have the money to pay for any E-zine or other online content that WotC puts out.

I will still purchase the occasional WotC materials (I am a fan of Eberron) but they have certainly lost the portion of my gaming income which went to the Dungeon and Dragon magazines.

Based on the quality of previous adventure paths put out by Paizo, I am willing to give the first couple of issues a good hard look and see if it is worth the elevated price. If I like what I see, then yeah sure i'll keep on shelling out the coin.

I love the adventure paths the folks at Paizo have already put out and the Pathfinder series will include a lot more support for the storyline. I subscribed and am looking forward to it.

I'm all over Pathfinder. I know it can't really replace Dragon & Dungeon, but it should be a quality product that captures the best of both (well, I'm bummed about the no comics part) as best it can. I've also found Paizo's PR and staff in general to be an exemplary bunch, and they've long ago earned my loyalty.

For those on the fence, check out their website/fora/etc. You should be pleasantly surprised.

Sword and Fist
Masters of the Wild
All the other splat books of the time...

19.95 for 96 pages.

And that was BEFORE the recent hikes in everything. So, even the price is cool by me.

I just can't justify it. I'm new to the whole D&D scene, so maybe I'm missing something, but all of the 'Expedition' series books are 34.95 (23.07 on Amazon) for 224 pages. Pathfinder, while I agree looks awesome and I'd be all over it if it were cheeper, is 19.00 for 94 pages. And the thing is, the Pathfinders aren't self contained--you need to fork over 108 dollars to get an end to your campaign.

It is reasonably priced when you compare it to other, similar products. WotC's Barrow of the Forgotten King is 19.95 with a 64 pg. count. 32'ish page modules sell for roughly $9.

Also, with a subscription, it drops the price to $14.

14 + 5 dollar shipping per issue, unfortunately.
But yes, the smaller WotC modules are a rip too, lol. This is an expensive hobby--I wish I didn't get hooked. ;)

*chuckles* Yeah it is. I still wince at paying $50 for a hardback gaming book or box set at times.

Oh, and I *think* its $4 not $5 for shipping. Yeah, i know, biiiiig difference.

Its sadly too costly for kids -- I know because my cousins and I who played could afford some books every so often and largely because of birthdays and Christmas.

I really believe the entrance cost is a huge barrier for adolescents, at least for me to have really immersed myself into buying sourcebooks would have meant kissing the rest of adolscent fun goodbye.

If only there was something like cheap, monthly magazines that could draw the younger income challenged crowd to the D&D scene....naaaaaahhhhhhhh....

Given the subscription overrun options it seem that converting may give the greatest return. At present my Dungeon subscription will carry me into issue 5 which is how long it has to impress me. I'll probably get issue 6 to finish the first "path" series but after that I don't know.

Sure adventures can be found online and from other sources but I don't know if we'll ever get another adventure source as efficient as Dungeon.

*chuckles* I especially relate to that because as a kid, those monthly magazines were my "poor man's sourcebooks"'. Not so much as I grew older and gained a decent income.

But as a kid spending lunch money on the hobby? Those mags WERE D&D.

yeah i recall working for 5.15 paying bills barely scaping by and with what little i had left paying for those mags there were D&D to me keep it alive when i couldnt blow 40 bucks on a freaking book of the latest must have ..so i feel bad for all those folks out there that will never get to enjoy this hobby cause the just cant get 40 bucks..... they were the source of many of my games :D

From the look of it, it appeals more toward Dungeon readers than Dragon readers (though some Dragon subscribers are willing to support Pathfinder).

I'll have to pass on that, but will look forward to other products from Paizo.

I jumped on board the day Wizard killed the Maqs, and paizo has kept getting more into to it day by day.

I really believe the entrance cost is a huge barrier for adolescents, at least for me to have really immersed myself into buying sourcebooks would have meant kissing the rest of adolscent fun goodbye.

I sold my entire collection of Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars at $0.50 per car when I got into D&D, and used the money to buy D&D stuff.
I bought a Player's Handbook, DMG, MM, Fiend Folio, Dieties&Demigods, dice, a few modules, and a couple of boxes of miniatures.

After I learned a bit more about the game, I permanently "loaned" my FF and Deities&Demigods and the modules to my DM, gave the minis to a guy who enjoyed painting them (my DM again), and put my MM and DMG away as I would never really need them.

That would be 1979 or 1980, and I had $200 to spend. Between Christmas and birthdays and other gift-giving occasions, I had amassed 400 toy cars in ten years, and I sold my "childish things" to begin my "adult hobby". (I seriously was thinking at the time, "This is going to be my hobby for the rest of my life". And so far I was right. :) )

I was a dragon mag subscriber, and had little use for adventure paths. But i think there will be a good deal of 'transferrable' material. I like what they've put out about the 'book' so far. Even if it is just for some of the art I've seen!

I just want to mention that one of the reasons I am supporting Pathfinder (besides the fact I love all things D&D) is I really feel like the crew over at Paizo are very supportive and customer friendly -- it is funny how far that can go in securing patrons.
