| Barbarossa Rotbart06-04-07, 07:04 AM | Hi! Here are my ideas for a pointbased version of the D20 rules: no levels no classes races cultures and classes are starting packages which include aset of ability score modifiers, skill ranks, feats, base attack and save boni and hit point modifiers each starting package costs a specific amountof experence points no difference between class skills and cross-class skills some skills and/or feats are needed as prequesites for other skills and/or feats base attack bonus and saves are not based on level everything (BAB, saves, HP, ability scores, feats, skill ranks, caster level, spells) costs experience points base attack bonus maximum is 20 Fort, Ref and Will save maximum is 20 skill rank maximum is 23 ability score maximum is either 20 + racial modifier or 1.5 times the starting score which ever is lower hitpoints are based on strength, constitution, race, culture and class hit point maximum is 1.5 times the starting score only two spell lists: arcane and divine spells caster level maximum is based on intelligence (for arcane spells) or wisdom (for divine spells) special abilities are feats |

But it might be a really good idea if you posted some actual numbers with your proposals no levels no classes races cultures and classes are starting packages which include aset of ability score modifiers, skill ranks, feats, base attack and save boni and hit point modifiers each starting package costs a specific amountof experence points OK so far ... no difference between class skills and cross-class skills Uh, if there's no classes, then there's no need to put this in. Just plain redundant. some skills and/or feats are needed as prequesites for other skills and/or feats And perhaps some examples? In what way would your proposal differ from the existing prereq chains/trees ? base attack bonus and saves are not based on level everything (BAB, saves, HP, ability scores, feats, skill ranks, caster level, spells) costs experience points And this is good, and common. Could you give some points? Can I buy complete caster progression in both Arcane and Divine paths for the equivalent of 2 skill points? base attack bonus maximum is 20 Fort, Ref and Will save maximum is 20 skill rank maximum is 23 ability score maximum is either 20 + racial modifier or 1.5 times the starting score which ever is lower To put it bluntly, crap. You've now mixed in campaign specific guidelines with the rules. Your tastes are not the same as everyone elses. hitpoints are based on strength, constitution, race, culture and class hit point maximum is 1.5 times the starting score Why are Race, & Culture factors? And again with the 'class', when you've specifically dropped that idea. And WTF have you put a max on the HP? And one so low? That screams campaign specific. Not good rules. Go look at what D20 Modern is doing. Go look at the Twilight system. Or Brian's feature point system. You've proposed some good ideas, some poor ones, and made some silly mistakes. Actually, I think your ideas would fit very much with what the Twilight bunch is trying to do. |

That's right. And perhaps some examples? In what way would your proposal differ from the existing prereq chains/trees ? You know that in normal D20 some feats are only avaible after reaching a certain level, but without levels you need other prequesites to prevent new characters beginning with powerfull feats. And this is good, and common. Could you give some points? Can I buy complete caster progression in both Arcane and Divine paths for the equivalent of 2 skill points? I've not written down the XP costs yet, but a caster level would cost more than just two skill points. To put it bluntly, crap. You've now mixed in campaign specific guidelines with the rules. Your tastes are not the same as everyone elses. No! In normal D20 you have a maximum level of 20. And without levels you need maximum scores. Why are Race, & Culture factors? And again with the 'class', when you've specifically dropped that idea. And WTF have you put a max on the HP? And one so low? That screams campaign specific. Not good rules. Race, cluture and class are starting packages and nothing more. Ok. The HP maximum is too low. 20 times the starting HP would perhaps be much better. Go look at what D20 Modern is doing. Go look at the Twilight system. Or Brian's feature point system. You've proposed some good ideas, some poor ones, and made some silly mistakes. Actually, I think your ideas would fit very much with what the Twilight bunch is trying to do.Where can I find the twillight system? |
