| Heliomance02-04-08, 11:30 AM | I'm considering making a D&D webcomic with all the characters drawn from these very boards. Which builds do you think would make good characters? Currently I'm considering the Lord of the Dance and the Hulking Hurler, with Pun-pun making an appearance as a deity. I need more though - enough to make up a full adventuring party. |
| Green_eyes02-04-08, 12:06 PM | Trouserfang Dwarf! |
| BetaSquirrell02-04-08, 05:04 PM | Bukbuk, Lord of Wings. (Commoner 1 with the chicken-infested flaw if you haven't heard) |
| RadicalTaoist02-04-08, 10:16 PM | Chuck the Hulking Whirler, the Twice-Betrayer, the CoM, and All Mart (that corporation built by the plucky commoner who figured out how to abuse the business rules) all deserve an appearance. |
| Zax02-05-08, 12:47 AM | Trouserfang Dwarf! +300 |
| Green_eyes02-05-08, 02:40 AM | I got snake in my pants and it's watching you! |
| Heliomance02-05-08, 02:10 PM | Chuck the Hulking Whirler, the Twice-Betrayer, the CoM, and All Mart (that corporation built by the plucky commoner who figured out how to abuse the business rules) all deserve an appearance. The Twice-Betrayer is the only one of those I managed to find |
| Zax02-05-08, 06:21 PM | Chuck : http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=12653608&postcount=316 |
| Heliomance02-05-08, 06:34 PM | Now I find I don't actually understand Chuck. Oh well. |
| RadicalTaoist02-05-08, 07:02 PM | How to be a Feudal Lord the Wal-Mart Way EDIT: Chuck uses the Tornado Throw martial maneuver from Tome of Battle, which allows you to move twice your base speed, and every 10 feet of your movement, you can throw an enemy with a trip attempt. You get a bonus to your trip attempt for every 5 ft. you travel and can throw them farther and for more damage 5 pts by which you beat their trip check. What Chuck does is use a bunch of cheese to run around the world so many times you can represent it in scientific notation before throwing his unfortunate foes into orbit...around Alpha Centauri. |
| Arcane-surge02-06-08, 01:20 PM | First, let me say that this sounds like a great idea. For builds...Hmm. Trouserfang Dwarf would be great. Cameos from such optimization greats as the Jumplomancer, at least one Killer Gnome, the Parliament of Smack, and a very helpful Ted the Enabler would be a lot of fun, I think. Also, the Ghola Character. I haven't read the entire thread, so I have no idea how close T_G got to actually doing it, but for a comic, it wouldn't matter. I imagine someone who spouts incredibly complex math in an effort to achieve the real ultimate power of Pun-Pun. "Now that I've proved I can touch my nose with (insert math that I don't understand here), I'm one step closer to taking Pun-Pun's lunch money!" (Much love for T_G and his math, though) Oh, honorable mention, Nut-Pun(s), the Squirrel Demi-Pantheon. |
| Commx02-06-08, 02:25 PM | I imagine the Optimization Circus with all its freaks could be interesting for a comic. The same could be said for a random person being chased around by a swarm of insects in a failed attempt at creating a Hivemind trick. Furthermore, I think this is a great idea and I look forward to seeing the results. |
| RadicalTaoist02-06-08, 03:10 PM | See if you can't put them back in the context of play for which they were intended. i.e. the main characters actually go to shop at All-Mart, they read about motions of no confidence in the Parliament of Smack, they visit the Optimization Circus for one summer vacation, and so on. |
| Tshern02-06-08, 03:20 PM | One of those nasty psicrystal builds would be cool as well. The Wish and The Word are pretty basic theoretical board stuff too, so you might introduce them. |
| Surreal02-06-08, 03:36 PM | Random thoughts: - The Boogeyman who's easily frightened - Supermount with a rider that no one pays attention to - Mr. Icy Hot who's a hypochondriac - a tiny killer gnome with a superiority complex - a BDSM chain tripper - an anthro baleen whale, squid, and bat - someone with two shields and a bad Captain America costume who gets shot in his first appearance |
| Zax02-06-08, 04:59 PM | ooh ooh ooh! The psionic sandwich! |
| Heliomance02-06-08, 07:48 PM | The way I'm thinking of sticking the All-Mart in there is to have them introduce a random commoner to the joys of capitalism, then come back sometime later to find he owns the village and has designs on the country. They'll also at some point meet a village giving away free chickens due to the fact there's a commoner producing them from nowhere. |
| Tshern02-06-08, 07:55 PM | - someone with two shields and a bad Captain America costume who gets shot in his first appearance And it took 60 friggin' years to get that done in comics... |
| BetaSquirrell02-07-08, 06:39 PM | You should put in one of the Nut-Pun squirrels Pun-Pun used in his road to godhood. If Pun-Pun let it keep the DvR it would be hilarious. |
| Heliomance02-08-08, 09:16 AM | Currently thinking the campaign will be a quest to bring down Pun-pun. Yes, I realise he could stop it as soon as they decided to, but he decided to let them try because it amused him to see how far they'd get. |
| BetaSquirrell02-08-08, 07:19 PM | In that case The Ghola Character definitely needs to make an appearance. The Dune series (which inspired the approach) was basically a bunch of rebels trying to take down an ascension build. |
| happy_fuzzy02-09-08, 09:26 PM | The omnisicifier, who walks around with a bucket on his/her head. |
| NiteCyper02-10-08, 08:49 PM | I was thinking of making a webcomic as well. I wrote a bit of the script for it. The thing is, campaign smashers cannot be made a webcomic of. Only a comic strip such as xkcd.com where it mentions little things instead of continuous story-line. So, my webcomic was simply a bunch of optimized characters. It can still have cameos though and points out the flaws of DND, like OotS. |

The Dune series (which inspired the approach) was basically a bunch of rebels trying to take down an ascension build. Well, that's book 4. The first trilogy is more about the omnificer's rise to power and moral crisis of the deeds committed in his name. He chooses to forgo power. No one has the power to take his near-godhood from him. Actually, now that I think of it book four is about a god training mortals to see who is strong enough to replace him and his willful death is his act of stepping down. I really need to read books 5 and 6. |

The Omniscificer, unfortunately, will probably not be appearing as he and Pun-pun are mutually exclusive. As for campaign smashers not being conducive to plot, i depends how smashy they are. The Hulking Hurler and the Twice Betrayer probably won't be too hard to fit in, especially if I look up some of the monster optimisation threads. |
| lostone02-11-08, 09:46 AM | The Cheater of Mystra King of Smack That one I can't remember what it's called...The Dirty Gentleman or something like that. The Hive Lord The Boogeyman Mr Roboto |
| Tshern02-11-08, 10:26 AM | It's Nasty gentlemen. How about a guy who tries desperately to find his way back home, but keeps exploding people away from him when he asks where the closest city is? |
| FriendlyFrog02-11-08, 12:03 PM | You possibly can't make a CO themed comic without an optimized basketweaver! |
| Heliomance02-11-08, 01:39 PM | The basketweaver will be in there. The Nasty Gentlman won't for the simple fact that I don't understand the build. |
| Tshern02-11-08, 06:12 PM | Man and a lot of symbionts. |
| The_Mad_Linguist02-11-08, 11:46 PM | Man and a lot of symbionts. A lot of symbionts with a man in there somewhere. Basically, he gets a new replacement symbiont every time one of his is lost or dies. So he's either very forgetful, or has a bunch of undead symbionts |
| Rogue007102-12-08, 08:41 PM | Good luck finding an enemy to challenge them. Evil mage: "I'll be back, TO board team!" *gets blasted for a few hundred thousand points of damage by various characters* "Or not." |
| Heliomance02-13-08, 02:30 AM | That's why the enemies will also be drawn from the TO boards |
| lostone02-13-08, 09:45 AM | One of the badguys could be Pun-Pun's bored ex-gf or kid-sister, who is just as powerful as pun-pun. But she sees the main characters as a form of entertainment so while she might toy with them, she won't kill them. |
| Naldor02-13-08, 08:58 PM | Grab that build from the "Nuclear apocalypse anyone?" thread on the CO boards, where someone manages to make good use of Apocalypse from the Sky... Or have a wizard with levels of Dweomerkeeper so he can use Wish 4 / day at no XP cost... don't forget Incrantix either. Tell me again why Wizards thought that class was balanced? |
| Tshern02-14-08, 06:16 AM | Did they? I just REFUSE to believe anyone ever even thought Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil, Dweomerkeeper, Incantatrix, and the worst of the lot, Planar Shepherd were balanced. Shadowcraft Mage requires some tricks to make it broken, the others just win. Win, I tell you! |
| SquashMonster02-14-08, 10:19 PM | I think pairing the Killer Gnome (shadowcraft mage) and the Other Killer Gnome (all the "giantfighting" style feats) on the same team would be funny. Also, since an optimized group is going to be focusing on the magical characters, having the Lockdown Fighter build as the group's meatshield could work. It'd also lend itself to a lot of gags: you could have all the others arguing about how to kill these orcs, then cut to the lockdown fighter surrounded by immobile orcs waiting for them to come up with a decision. |
| archerpwr02-14-08, 10:45 PM | Also, since an optimized group is going to be focusing on the magical characters, having the Lockdown Fighter build as the group's meatshield could work. I don't believe we ever got around to making 3.0. There are two ways to do it though. Sorc gish getting a huge number of bonus feats and using crusader instead of paladin, or a druid's air elemental companion. |

If you build a spiked-chain wielding Unseen Seer or Arcane Trickster, you could set up shop anywhere you like using Sculpted Grease (go pinwheel patterns) at a pretty low level (then transition to Greater Invisibility at higher levels). How many sneak attack dice do you need to make the Stand Still DCs unreasonably high? |
