The d20 System Guide 5.0 states that you may not describe a process of character creation or a process of applying experience to a character and that these and other rules must be observed in any product bearing a d20 system logo. Yet, we have numerous OGL products, including World of Warcraft: the Roleplaying Game and Iron Heroes as examples, which do describe character creation and make no mention of this Guide while still bearing the d20 system logo. Is the d20 System Guide 5.0 an obsolete document? No other document I can find says anything about superseding the d20 System Guide 5.0. Are the above mentioned works covered by some additional license from Wizards allowing them to describe character creation? |

What you are referring to is whether an OGL product that features the d20 System can use the d20 Logo. You will find Iron Heroes and other products that talk about character creation (or any other restrictions in the d20 System Guide) will not have the d20 logo for that very reason. An OGL product does not necessarily mean that it can use the d20 System Logo, it has to meet other restrictions listed in the System Guide. |

The most recent d20 System Trademark Usage Guide v5.0contains guideline that must be complied when using d20 System Trademark License v6.0. It supersede previous versions of the Guide. Failure to comply with the Guide will result in breach of the d20 STL. It has no relevance nor bearing with the OGL. If you believe it is a failure to comply with the d20 Trademark Guide, then you should report to WotC and let them handle it legally. Is the d20 System Guide 5.0 an obsolete document? No other document I can find says anything about superseding the d20 System Guide 5.0. v5.0 is the most recent version. |
