It is a fantasy/sci-fi setting, where technology is achieved through magic. (IE: a robot is simply a highly advanced golem.) The characters are currently levels 10-11. Which is not a problem. The problem is that since it is a sci-fi campaign they have access to weapons such as grenades and rocket launchers. Which they use frequently. At anything that moves. Which in some instances makes a challenging encounter a 10 second fight. My plan is to send the PCs to a space station. The tight spaces and risk of blowing a hole in the hull will hopefully cull their use of massive weapons. If not they're going to get sucked out into space. If you've seen SG-1 you should know what the replicators are. Small (~1' long, wide robots) That look similar to bugs made out of lego blocks. They basically tear into anything metal and make duplicates of themselves (hence, replicators). I want to design these critters so that they are fun, and yet challenging to these level 10 players (about 4-6 in the party depending on who comes to the play session). So far my thoughts are Construct traits, Hive-Mind, Swarm Traits, an Acid bite attack, about 1HD per replicator, and about 10HD per small swarm of them. They can reform themselves once when blown apart by something like a shotgun, but when blown apart a second time they don't reform. I'm still working on their stats and things, and I will add more when I work on it more, but for now this is what I am thinking. If any of you have any ideas or input (or questions/clarifications), just let me know. I am really excited about this adventure I'm designing and want to make sure it will be as fun for them as I am hoping. |
