Looking through the Magic Item Compendium and the DMG, I've noticed that the saving throws allowed by items are ridiculously low. Why is it that they have to use the minimum save possible for the spell effect generated? As soon as you start getting into the higher levels the saves of these items are nigh useless. The dislocator, for example, offers a DC 14 will save. For a +1 bonus, that weapon isn't worth it, by the time you can have one of these, a DC 14 is so low that you might as well not use it. I know there's a problem here, it exists with most, if not, all items. How would you go about fixing it?

The saves as given are based on the minimum stat bonus needed for the prereq spell. Generally speaking I see nothing wrong with up them slightly if they were made by someone more capable but the DC should be set there if the item isn't a custom made.

That is to say a scroll made by your wizard will have a dc based on his int bonus and a dislocator made for you by a specific NPC will have its dc set by the bonus of that NPC.

Use the given DCs only if the characters are buying the item wholesale from a vendor or finding them laying around. Remeber that a superior item will go for more so you will of course have to adjust the actual market value (not price)*. This means you will need to do a little extra work as DM if you wanna use this method.

*by market price I mean formulaic price needed to create the item.
