| Barnwellknight03-26-07, 02:10 PM | Anybody done anything for a d20 version of any of the Shining Force games? I was playing Shining Soul II, and I was thinking how the Dragonute (humanoid dragon; if you ever read the Dragonlance novels, then you know what a draconian looks like; well, a Dragonute is similar to a draconian) would look in d20. He's basically a warrior-type character, who moves slowly, despite the fact that he has wings. Anyone willing to submit their ideas for a Shining Force d20 conversion? |
| Leress03-26-07, 04:21 PM | Here is a site to get you started. Some needs work though, I did not make this site http://magic19.homestead.com/sfd20.html |
| Barnwellknight03-26-07, 05:24 PM | I agree, whoever did the site needs to work on it. Thanks for the help. Is it just me, or does the Beastman resemble a certain race from Eberron? |

| Barnwellknight03-27-07, 08:41 AM | Not only that, but the Birdman resembles the Raptorans, and the Catfolk are pretty much a copy of the ones from the Races of the Wild book. I don't think the wolfman race should be called werewolves because they lack the lycanthropy curse. From playing several Shining Force games, there is a good bit of science-fiction thrown into the fantasy setting (i.e. robots, firearms, and lasers). IMO, a DM trying to build a Shining Force campaign could use the rules for technology from the Final Fantasy d20 rules. Of course, you could also use the rules from the Modern d20 rulebook. |
| havenscloud03-27-07, 09:09 AM | I'd be willing to help, but I've only played the original two on genesis. |
| Barnwellknight03-27-07, 10:06 AM | Thanks. |
| havenscloud03-27-07, 11:59 AM | Actually, now that I think about it I've only played the second one. That was a great game though. Yeah, that site seems to have almost nothing original on it. The Golems are Warforged and the Half-Giants are that one race from Races of Stone. I noticed that Phoenix and Turtlefolk are missing (I loved that little turtle guy that threw his helmet at people, I think his name was Kiwi). Aren't the Wolfmen like an upgrade for the Beastmen though? I think the technology should be handled like Eberron, everything is based in magic. Robots run on power stones and stuff like that. |
| Barnwellknight03-27-07, 06:01 PM | Yeah, I noticed that alot of stuff on that site wasn't original. |
| Leress03-27-07, 06:17 PM | You know what I will help out, now mind you the only experience I have with Shining force is... Shining in the Darkness Shining force 2 Shining Force CD Shining Force for the GBA Shining Force Shining Soul Shining Soul 2 |
| Barnwellknight03-27-07, 06:43 PM | Wow, that's a lot! I've only played Shining Force 1, Shining Souls 1 & 2, and I hope to play Shining Force CD. |
| Leress03-28-07, 12:39 AM | Question is how are we doing the balancing of the races Will we use the DnD way which is like in the DMG Or like how Slayers d20 does it (if you are not familiar with it, it makes all attributes the same value; so if there is a -2 to a stat there must be a +2 to a stat to balance it) Now with this we have to make a way so that all attributes are the same. (Not making CHA a dump stat) |

| Barnwellknight03-28-07, 07:54 AM | Probably the magic needs to be the same as D&D. I'm not sure about the races. |
| Magrus04-08-07, 03:12 PM | I toyed with this on and off since 2nd edition when I was little to be honest. All of my work got thrown out when I moved out of my mothers house when I was 18 though. I had worked up a spell system and all, but then, it was all 2nd edition stuff. I'm not sure I have the time anymore to make a version of this. My players wouldn't be interested I don't think, although, then again, maybe they would. If I find time in my schedule to work on this, I'll post what I come up with. |
| Zylo_Drizzt04-13-07, 11:42 AM | What is up with these links to that website. It is really ******* me off. |
| Barnwellknight08-08-07, 12:36 PM | I'm guessing the site is old and it hasn't been updated in a while. Magrus, I'm somewhat familiar with 2nd edition's spell system, so I might be able to convert it to 3.5. |
| Aryxbez08-10-07, 08:46 PM | Making a setting of this is simple as most of the stuff in the series has already been done. Dragonnute are essentially Half dragons or Draconians. Other things as well. I have played Shining force for the GBA, Shining Soul 1 & 2. Of course I would rather make up the setting for Paladins Quest, or Lennes in Japan. In fact I might just make a thread about it eventually. |

Dragon nutes (dragon newts?), I'm told are from an old rp called runequest. They're basically small lizardfolk with dragon traits that develop as they get older. I'd probably run them as lizardfolk and let them take racial levels with dragon-based class features as they get older. |
