CadeShadow 04-09-07, 04:13 PM	Excuse me if this is in the DMG somewhere, but.... Lets say I'm a level 1 sorcerer with Spells/day at 5/3 and spells known at 4/2 and then I get a prestige class that includes +1 existing spell caster class for spells/day and spells known. Thus giving me spells/day at 6/4 and spells known at 5/2. my question is this: What happens if I raise my sorcerer level again? Do I not update my spells known and spells per day until they are higher than they are now? or do I increase those by one level even though my pure sorcerer levels wont allow it? Thank you for your time and yes, I know thats unlikely at first level.

spyone 04-12-07, 12:16 PM	I don't know, but I think you would just get the spells for the next highest level of Sorceror (or whatever) when you took a level. Need to say that clearer: If you get to 5th in Sor, then take a level of a prestige class that grants you "+1 of existing class", you would now be casting as a Sor6. If you then take another level in Sor, you would be a Sor6 casting as a Sor7. And I'm not sure it really matters whether you got the 7th level abilities from the 6th level of sorceror or if you traded the 6th level abilities from the Prestige class for them when you got (duplicate) 6th level abilities from Sorceror. The net result is; your prestige class is granting you the casting abilities of one more level of Sorceror than you actually have. If something level-drains you down to Sor3 but doesn't drain off that prestige class level for some reason, you'd be casting as a Sor4 because it would now be 3+1. IMO. I could be wrong.

You have the same number of spells per day, the same number of spells known, and access to the same level of spells as a 3rd level sorcerer. However, your familiar is only as strong as a 2nd level sorcerer's familiar.
