| Rarus08-04-07, 09:11 PM | If anybody interested in statting up some super robots, I'd be grateful. By super robot, I mean Mazinger, Getter, Voltron, Combattler, etc. |
| ArgulFraster08-06-07, 06:52 PM | I'd love to, but I'm not good with stattery. That's my friend's area of expertise. I'll ask him though. |
| TFVanguard08-10-07, 11:11 AM | It really depends on what system you're looking for. d20F's mecha system is simplistic, but has major issues with logic (Voltron is physically stronger if Keith acts as main pilot, as opposed to when the Princess pilots it, etc) .. that and d20 doesn't scale all that well to 'bigger than large'. (Voltron is the size of a tall skyscraper, after all). So, the first question is, what's your base idea for the style of play involved? |
| Rarus08-10-07, 01:47 PM | I'm thinking something like the Super Robot Wars series by Banpresto, where legions of anywhere from four to twenty super robots fight. If you ran it that way, when combined, Keith would be considered the pilot, while the other four are merely co-pilots. |
| TFVanguard08-10-07, 02:29 PM | So you're looking for more shonen-style of play, with a lot of action-emphasis and not much of a sim. I would go for a modification of the d20F mecha rules, cutting them back to the d20 basic SRD (to lose some of the 'gritty' that you won't want), and tweaking some of the more nonsensical construction aspects. I had been putting a lot of work on Spychanger City lately, but I can pretty easily draw up something more 'Sentai' related for this thread if wanted. |
| Rarus08-10-07, 03:00 PM | Sentai? That would be P-E-R-F-E-C-T. If you need any info on a SR, just ask. Aside from statting them out, I'm an expert. |

| TFVanguard08-10-07, 07:43 PM | d20 Mecha has some improvements, as well as the 'build' mechanics go, but I wouldn't use the mechanics for combat or characters. I'm never fond of the 'experience points for equipment' mentality, which d20 Mecha embraces hugely. I mean, both Amuro and Hikaru were untrained civilians which picked up and piloted the First Gundam and a VF-1, respectively. That's outright impossible with d20 Mecha, but a running theme with Giant Robots. Even Voltron, while the Volton Force (Go Lion) team was skilled pilots, they had never even SEEN Voltron before, and had to learn it ad hoc... again, impossible to do with d20 Mecha. |
| Rarus08-10-07, 10:14 PM | That's the case with ALL Super Robots. The pilots never actually choose to be pilots. Personally, I just throw any XP/CP cost for equipment right out. If you get it for free, then it's free. I can adjust d20F and d20M, I just don't know where to start with stats. Would it be best to start with a (relatively) weak robot as a reference? Like...Boss Borot? (Perhaps that's a bit too weak...) |

If you're starting with Sentai robots, ala Voltron, etc, then you're looking at 'colossal' robots from the get go. Remember too that these robots tends to have a 'main weapon', a few back-up weapons, and not much else to them. If I can get the chance in the next couple of days, I'll stat up a generic 'giant robo' for a campaign to give you an idea of where to start. |

The smaller ones, like Kotetsu Jeeg, Mazinger Z, and the origional Gundam are actually gargantuan. And just a main weapon and a few back-ups? That's only true for the "real robot" category, under which most Gundams fall. "Super robots," like Mazinger Z have more than a few weapons. (Rocket Punch, Iron Cutter, Freezing Beam, Photon Beam, Missile Punch, Drill Missiles, Rust Hurricane, Breast Fire, Daisharin Rocket Punch, Southern Cross Knives, and Finger Missiles. That's eleven, right there, on one robot.) The generic 'giant robo' template sounds like a good idea, though. Of course, you'd have to create two or three, to encompass the "small" robos, like Kotetsu Jeeg, the "medium" ones, like Great Mazinger, and the "freakin' huge" ones, like the 250 meter Daitarn 3. |

| Rarus08-13-07, 05:18 PM | Well, I suppose it qualifies... |
